Trump to visit India Feb 24-25 WASHINGTON/NEW DELHI, FEB 11 (PTI): US President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to India on February 24 and 25 and travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad, it was announced on Tuesday, with both governments highlighting that his maiden trip would further bolster the strategic ties and the enduring friendship between the peoples of the two countries. President Trump will be accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and they will visit India on February 24–25, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said. In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs said President Trump and his wife would pay a state visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The announcement from Washington and New Delhi came after Trump and Modi held a telephonic talk over the weekend, Grisham said. “During a phone call over the weekend, President Trump and Prime Minister Modi agreed the trip would further strengthen the IndiaUS strategic partnership and highlight the strong and enduring bonds between the American and Indian people,” she said.

ENNWU resolves to back Pan Naga Hoho
DIMAPUR, FEB 11 (NPN): Easter n Naga National Workers’ Union (ENNWU) decided to stand by Pan Naga Hoho and also declared that under no circumstances it would backtrack from the unanimous decision taken by all its members to strongly stand by Pan Naga Hoho “as agreed upon by both NSCN and government of India.” This was decided at a meeting of the union held on Monday to discuss the importance of Pan Naga Hoho for the Nagas at the crucial juncture of Indo-Naga political talks that was nearing signing of a political agreement. In a statement, ENNWU said the meeting took note of the fact that in the course of the long period of negotiations, it had been agreed upon by NSCN negotiating team and Government of India (GoI) that this statutory body would be established so that Nagas everywhere would be able to get together under one body and under the banner of
ENNWU members after the meeting of the union Monday.

develop any wrong concept because Pan Naga Hoho was simply a cultural body that would bring all Nagas under one banner and stand for welfare and development of all Nagas, the meeting clarified. ENNWU recalled the resolution taken by ENPO on December 18, 2007 at Tuensang supporting unification of all Nagas, regardless of territorial demarcation. ACAUT hails NTUCT ‘bold & courageous’ declaration DIMAPUR, FEB 11 (NPN): ACAUT has hailed the “bold and courageous” declaration of Naga Tribal Union Chumoukedima Town (NTUCT) to prevent training of fresh police recruits, who were questionable backdoor appointees until proven otherwise. ACAUT said NTUCT was one of the few massbased civil society organisations that had voiced out the right issue at the most appropriate time, “a burning issue of public concern, sans political, tribal and bloc lines”. What was shocking about the revelation of NTUCT was the shrewd manipulation of accommodating more backdoor appointees . “What can citizens expect of new law enforcers who have dodged public advertisement to enforce equality before law without any fear or
favour?” it wondered. ACAUT declared that it fully endorsed and supported the plan of action of NTUCT, stressing that the matter should be judiciously pursued until the guilty were punished. Fuel prices cut for sixth day DIMAPUR, FEB 11 (NPN): State-owned oil marketing companies slashed petrol and diesel prices across the major cities of the country for sixth consecutive day on Tuesday. Petrol prices were slashed by 16-17 paise while diesel prices were lowered by 20-22 paise across the country. Following today’s rate revision, Petrol prices were lowered in New Delhi by 16 paise to Rs 71.94 a litre on Tuesday while diesel became cheaper by 20 paise to Rs 64.87 a litre. In Dimapur, the retail price petrol was reduced to Rs 69.91 per litre against yesterday’s price of Rs.70.06 while diesel was cut by 19 paise to Rs 62.68 per litre from Rs.62.87 on Monday. In the state capital, a litre of petrol and diesel was retailing at Rs.70.75 and Rs.63.35 respectively. Domestic petrol and diesel prices are reviewed by oil marketing companies on a daily basis.

Addressing protest rally organised by NPF Dimapur division at Naga Shopping Arcade Dimapur, NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu described CAA as “discriminatory and divisive” and said that the Act was to support one religion and suppress others. DIMAPUR: Reacting to the news published in local dailies on December 13, with regard to conduct of AGEI conference held at Don Bosco Institute for Development and Leadership from December 11 to 12, the Assemblies of God of East India (AGEI) has clarified that the programme was organised by dissident group of AGEI. In a joint statement by AGEI comprising of Rev. Moses Murry general superintendent, Rev. R. Sanga Keivom general secretary, Rev. Tusaya Kath district superintendent Nagaland Assemblies of God and Rev. Khriezolie Angami district secretary of Nagaland Assemblies of God expressed that action of “the self styled AGEI executive members and advisory board members was a direct challenge and a violation of the AGEI constitution”. AGEI puts on record that, those people who have convened a general meeting were the dissident group
who have been suspended and excommunicated by the concerned authority of the AGEI because of their unethical behaviour and non cooperation towards the AGEI society. Therefore, in order not to cause or create any confusion and mislead the concern leaders and believers from these unauthorized people, the AGEI has clarified and informed the concern leaders and believers not to entertain the malpractices of those self styled and suspended members. AGEI also reiterated that, the dissident group has no authority or moral obligation to use the AGEI logo and cautioned them to restraint from using the AGEI logo as defying would attract legal discourse. AGEI further reminded the dissident group to refrain from such unauthorized conference in the near future which will only compel the AGEI to publish their name in the media outlet for public awareness.

were important and integral towards holistic urban planning for any city. IMPHAL, Feb 11: Tribunal of Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Tuesday heard the disqualification petitions of seven MLAs pending with the tribunal. The tribunal posted the proceedings of the cases till the conclusion of the forthcoming budget session of the state Assembly due to end by February 28. The tribunal initiated disqualification proceedings of the seven Congress MLAs defected to BJP under the Constitution’s 10th Schedule of Indian Constitution, popularly known as Anti-Defection Law. The MLAs facing the disqualification case are: Oinam Lukhoi, Ksh Biren, Paonam Brojen, Sanasam Biramani, Ngamthang Haokip, Ginsuanhau and Y Surchandra. In the backdrop of a recent Supreme Court’s judgment, the Speaker of
the state Assembly has on Tuesday notified to conduct the final hearing of separate petitions seeking disqualification of the seven Congress MLAs who defected to BJP filed separately by Congress MLAs and pending with the Speaker’s tribunal. During today’s hearing, the respondent of the cases filed one preliminary objection each, questioning maintainability of the petitions. After the launch, Singh told reporters that the introduction of the e-KUBER payment system in all the treasuries and sub-treasuries of the state will fully replace the existing payment system for the purpose of government payments. Under this system, there will be no role of banks in government payments and RBI will act as the sole agency bank. All government transactions for payment will be directly with RBI without any intermediary bank, he added. Nagpur, Feb 11 (PTI): The Special Investigation Team, probing the case where a 25-year-old woman lecturer was burned to death by her stalker at Hinganghat in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, would file a charge sheet within two weeks, a senior official said on Tuesday. The victim, Ankita Pisudde, a resident of Hinganghat town, was set afire allegedly by her stalker Vikesh Nagrale (27) on February 3. She died in a Nagpur hospital, where had been undergoing treatment, on Monday morning. The SIT team led by Wardha Deputy Superintendent of Police Trupti Jadhav is handling the case. When contacted, Jadhav told PTI that statements of six witnesses have been

recorded and evidences from the crime spot have also been recovered. The charge sheet in the case would be filed within
two weeks, she said. “The accused is in police remand till February 20 and we will try to file the charge sheet before the end of that period,” Jadhav said. According to information gathered by the probe team, the accused executed the crime alone and was not accompanied by any person, the official said. The state government on Monday appointed

New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS): A Delhi court on Tuesday directed the Crime Branch to file in 15 days an Action Taken Report (ATR) on a complaint filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat against BJP lawmakers Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma for alleged inflammatory remarks. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja declined Crime Branch’s request to grant eight weeks’ time to file the report, contending that the “matter is sensitive”. The matter will now be taken up on February 26 at 10 a.m. If no cognizable offence is made out, then file a detailed report, the judge directed. Karat had filed the complaint against the BJP leaders on charges of outraging religious feelings, in-
gin that went above 50,000 votes. The spectacular debacle is surprising given BJP’’s main electoral agenda till they raised ‘’Shaheen bagh’’ -- regularisation of unauthorised colonies find resonance in this Lok Sabha constituency. A large chunk of those 1,700 unauthorised colonies fall under Verma’’s area. Yet, this debacle raises question on his ability as well as his aggressive campaign pitch probably backfiring. Verma, an otherwise non controversial MP and son of BJP’’s former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma came to the limelight when he attacked the blockade at Shaheen Bagh and even suggesting that the protesters are “rapists and murderers”. Issue of backdoor appointment
W
ith the fifth session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly underway, the issue of backdoor appointment has rung out loud after the Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town(NTUCT) in a statement, claimed that out of the total of 1200 candidates only 208 were recruited through the open recruitment. This means that the remaining 992 candidates got their appointment without passing the recruitment tests. This is a conjecture drawn from the NTUCT allegation unless it is confirmed. Totally,1200 of them are scheduled to undergo training at Police Training School (PTS) and Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre(NAPTC) . NTUCT has brought to public domain the highly questionable and illegal practise of ‘backdoor appointment’ . Such practises are clearly illegal and that has to be acknowledged and through which the government has contributed immensely to depriving thousand of unemployed youths the right of employment. This is among the main cause that has caused so much resentment and frustration within society. As the assembly is in session, certainly this public statement deserves to be discussed where the government and in particular, the police department has much to answer for. If what NTUCT has alleges is based on facts, even if the figure may not be wholly accurate; it raises an urgent and important issue. It also brings a recollection of the past, when a senior police officer had the guts to acknowledge the bane of the department caused by backdoor appointments. Interestingly, this happened when the same minister holding the same portfolio was also the then minister. Whether that acknowledgement was true or not, it certainly caused furore. Thus, the allegation by NTUCT could also be like a revisit of the phenomenon that has gripped almost all other government departments in the state. In other states, if there was any issue regarding backdoor appointment, there would have been massive protests riot throughout the state. The opposition would be calling for a statewide bandh or agitation and possibly, even compelling the government to ask the ministers in-charge to resign. It does not happen in Nagaland but that does not mean that people would continue to remain passive forever. Those organizations that have been crying hoarse over the plight of the unemployed as well as the system of selections, have not been consistently vocal about the backdoor appointment issue. Transparency and accountability in appointments to various government departments would satisfy people even though a fraction were to be selected and given jobs. Government cannot absorb even a fraction of around ten thousand youths graduating from various institutions. Today, hundreds of candidates compete for one post. To add to the problem, the state’s economy is on unsure ground- no industries and restricted opportunities for investments in private enterprises owing to the feeling of insecurity. Since private enterprise is the key, the quantum of jobs likely to be created within a time frame through some ventures, should be prepared. However, private enterprise can only thrive in a congenial environment and absence of which, has had a negative impact on the growth of the economy. Why backdoor appointments continue unabated is because people accept political patronisation, nepotism and favouritism. Unless the illegal practise of backdoor appointments are eradicated, there can never be social transformation.

This will be one of the greatest assets of your faith when a time of trial comes, because then your faith and the Spirit of God will work together. When you have thoughts and ideas that are worthy of credit to God, learn to compare and associate them with all that happens in nature— the rising and the setting of the sun, the shining of the moon and the stars, and the changing of the seasons. You will begin to see that your thoughts are from God as well, and your mind will no longer be at the mercy of your impulsive thinking, but will always be used in service to God. “We have sinned with our fathers…[and]… did not remember…” (Psalm 106:6-7). Then prod your memory and wake up immediately. Don’t say to yourself, “But God is not talking to me right now.” He ought to be. Remember whose you are and whom you serve. Encourage yourself to remember, and your affection for God will increase tenfold. Your mind will no longer be starved, but will be quick and enthusiastic, and your hope will be inexpressibly bright.

ew days back I had the privilege of attending a two days summit on Innovations and New Knowledge in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene organized by the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad in association with the Government of Telangana where over 100 innovations in the areas of water potability and quality, water conservation and reuse, wastewater management, municipal solid waste management, plastic and e-waste, and faecal sludge management were showcased. The summit was attended by nearly 200 delegates comprising city commissioners, smart city professionals, representatives from public and private sector enterprises, venture capitalists, incubators etc. and senior bureaucrats from Telangana and GOI. I was deputed to attend the summit mainly to get insight on latest technologies available to solve issues of school toilets becoming non-functional due to water scarcity and other similar issues related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at Schools. Though my mind was initially curious to find solutions for few problems, the presentations made by the innovators were so fascinating that I fully got involved with the summit. Of late, Governments and people with social concern have woken up to realize the gravity of water shortage the world faces now and would face in the next few decades. Even it is feared that the third world war would be fought over water. Though many initiatives have been taken at various levels to conserve water, contributions made by organizations such as

industries, universities, colleges, schools, Govt. establishments , civic bodies , apartments , individual households etc to recycle water is very much negligible. The concept of recycling of waste water still remains foreign to many of us and we are still at the stage of infancy in case of solid waste management. Almost all the models exhibited by the innovators are adoptable to rural Indian environment, successfully tested and been functioning well in many places. The following are some of the important innovations/best practices that we could adopt in our State. Dry San-Toilet ( Water free-No flush system), Solar zero flush zero odour toilet, Waterless and odourless urinal system, Smart sanitation o/s for smart cities, Toilet seat sanitizer, Safe and portable water purifier for remote areas and disaster zones, Waste water recycle plant, Sewage Treatment plant, Floating Islands for restoring and beautifying water bodies, Hard water softener, Sanitary napkin disposal & recycling machine, Geo care reusable cloth sanitary pads, Faecal sledge management systems, Kitchen waste compost , Waste management services through wastepickers, The Suz-Hook for collection of plastic waste, Multi sustainable rainwater scheme, etc. The most interesting thing I have seen at the summit is that majority of the innovators are young professionals who gave up well paid corporate jobs to pursue their passion of innovating technology for a social cause. These young entrepreneurs spent their own money on research and development of the devices/
units and now seek support of Govt. departments and public so that the fruits of their hard work could become tools of development of the nation. More importantly, the products are priced economically compared to the long term benefits they would yield. Though few State Governments encourage these entrepreneurs, finding financial support to produce and market their products seems to be their major obstacle. Most of the innovations listed above are well suited for hilly regions like Nagaland and I sincerely believe that schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, business establishments, Govt. organizations etc could make use of these innovations and new knowledge and serve as a role model to the public. I humbly request authorities of all educational institutions to spare few minutes of their time to go through the brief descriptions of these innovative products and implement at least few of them in their institutions. We all know that schools and colleges are the right places to begin initiatives for social change. If we can inculcate healthy habits in children at young age, it will naturally bring desirable changes in the society within a short span of time. I
t is relatively easier to comfort someone than to practically endure the pain oneself. How do you console a person who has just lost someone very dear to him? Even the best motivating words in the world could sound just a shallow combination of trivial words. ‘It will be all right; my heartfelt condolences; don’t worry everything happens for a reason; Failures are the pillars of success; etc.’ are what we usually say to console somebody. It is worth brooding over as to if these words meant anything significant to them. On the contrary, should we then stop saying nice things to cheer somebody up? Life is but a mix of happiness and sadness. Too many precious lives have been destroyed by our inability to manage trying and tiring circumstances. I knew people who tried to drink away their pains and in the process they ceased to exist, but their problems. There are another few lot who tend to run away from life’s challenges in the hope that their problems will disappear. In most cases, the problems only get maximized, if not multiplied, by ignoring it. Be the momentary feeling of loneliness, the acute shortage of funds to meet day’s end, sickness, loss of beloveds, failures and insecurity; it is us and only us who can make it go away. We can choose to face it or be doomed and gloomed. The same way the beautiful words we said to our friends could mean little or nothing instantly, many encouraging words people conveyed to us might sound empty sometimes. But the inner-words from our heart will help heal our wounds. Spiritual guidance seems to work wonders for many to motivate one-self. I must however agree that in the face of extreme difficulties, our very faith in God at some point seems even questionable. But beyond that, with the passage of time, it becomes evidently clear that there is someone who loves us
in spite of everything. To reach to that realisation will however beseech one to just hang in there. I did not want to meet anyone. In the midst of hundreds, I feel like being alone on top of a mountain and every word people told me sounded like an echo reverberating over the vales and hills. I was hell-bent in my belief that nobody and no words could ease my sorrow. But several years down the line, I remember a friend who said, ‘This too shall pass. May God give you the strength to overcome this irreparable loss of yours.’ His words then neither remove my grief nor did it brighten me up but now when I look back, it does feel good to know that there are people who care for you. I’d ask myself will I be able to understand the power of comforting words had nobody condoled my loss? In as much as words might be inadequate to fill the emotional gap when one is down, it will be incorrect to do away with encouraging words altogether. Our kind words may not necessarily cure a wounded heart but it will surely work it’s worth. When the momentary feeling of enveloping one’s problem passed, the heart rekindles the kind words earlier heard and values the warm feeling of being comforted by people who cared. It does help lighten the burdens and gladdens the mind. In that thought we ought to only be grateful when somebody says nice things to us and we ought to be saying beautiful things to people in their highs and lows. Let us thence build many positive words within us and spread even more, for given the happenings around us, we will need loads of them to survive in this world. As they say, ‘ kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.’ May beautiful words continue to flow from our lips and nips. T S Haokip

But, we are demonstrating our strong protest and our strong opposition to CAA In the most peaceful and democratic manner which the Indian Constitution guaranteed to all of us. We feel it obliged to take up this type of agitation in order to save the future of our generations to come. We are doing this in order to save India’s secularism and democracy. This Act - CAA - is discriminatory and divisive. It is an Act just to support one religion to suppress others though few names of other religions are mentioned in the Act including Christianity for cover-up. India is taken by the whole World as the ‘greatest democratic nation’. In other words, it is called the largest democracy in the world. India is great and its greatness depends on “Unity in Diversity’. The purpose of this CAA is to do away with that ‘unity in diversity’ which means, this Act will destroy the greatness of India if the arrogant attitude of the present government continues to surpess others. We cannot accept the slogan ‘One nation, one religion.’ I am telling this not for the sake of opposing CAA but it is not practicable at all anywhere in the world if the present government of India wants to continue their rule. Afghanistan is a glaring example shown to us in the recent past where a particular religion was rather imposed on the people resulting in the loss of thousands and thousands of precious lives which is still going on with uncertainty. Therefore, it will be very wrong if any political party try to impose upon all the Indians to agree to such slogan, because such imposition, who knows, may
do more harm than good to the country which may even ignite unwarranted situation in due course of time. We believe, the elite society, the intelligentsia group in the country will never like to see India going backward again. India was emerging as a global economic power and every Indian was proud of such progress. But today, all the reports about the Indian economy is negative. The economic growth of the country is lowest in 11 years during 2019-20. The growth in manufacturing sector dropped from 9.9% in 2018 to 2.5% last year. In agriculture sector, the growth dropped from 8% to 2.8% during the same period. This downward trend is same in all other sectors. The Union Budget presented to the House recently predicted some improvement during the current year; but with the continued agitations all over the country, we do not know how far the prediction can come true. Every day we come across the pessimistic views expressed by the country’s economists. They are deeply worried for the economic slowdown of the country. Besides all these bad news, a new method of dealing with the ongoing agitation has been noticed again in the country where some people started firing upon the people who are standing for their democratic right; branding them as terrorists, anti-nationals etc., this means that the miscreants (they called it) are firing upon the Indian democracy; a direct method of murdering the Indian democracy. With all these problems around, whether the Government can bring the situation under control or what will be the solution if the situation goes out of hand. There are many questions. As of now, there seems to be madness all around. When the country’s situation is unpredictable as such, we are particularly worry for the people of Nagaland for the very reason that if anything happens in the mainland, how far our towns are prepared for their survival; Presuming that any thing happens in the main-
land, apart from our political stand, do we have sufficient provision of foodstuff for one month? or how long can you survive with your food provision let alone other facilities. We are in the dark about the status of our State economy. The Nagaland economy seems to be under strangulation at the moment. When the public becomes poor, money can serve their masters better and, perhaps, this is the policy adopted by those people in power today. Nagaland economy is not only negative but it may be below zero percentage as per the economic datas conveyed to us from time to time by our daily Newspapers. We are grateful to our news media agencies. NPF stands for secularism and democracy as enshrined in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. As such we stand to defend our faith to whichever religion we may belong. I am a Christian and I am here to defend my Christian faith so also each one of you will do the same without fear or favor. In as much as we never create problem for other faiths, we do not want any other religion to suppress our right. Our CEC resolution dated the 31st January, 2019 says, “Reiterate the Party’s stand against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 (CAB) and further resolved that the Party RS Member, Mr. K.G.Kenye will vote against the Bill in Tesoent the Bill is not withdrawn....” This Bill got lapsed in 2018 when it could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha. But BJP put this Bill again in their election manifesto and accordingly, after they came back to power, in haste, passed the Bill, which is now Act (CAA). Mr. Tokheho, LS, MP voted in favor of the Bill, and according to his clarification, he said that he voted in favor of the Bill as directed by his Party- NDPP. Mr. K.G. Kenye, RS, MP voted in favor of the Bill against the stand of the party and, therefore, he was suspended from the primary membership of the party. In the said CEC meeting, “the house resolved that NDPPled PDA Govt. will be held
solely responsible for any fall out on the Nagas out of the CAB 2016.” NPF was against this Bill from the very beginning because this Act becomes very dangerous for the people of the whole North East. For example, starting from the next day of passing this Bill, we see that many people jump over the international fencing from Bangladesh to India every day in thousands. Why should we oppose if the Hindus from Bangladesh want to come to India. But we know that these people will not get land either in West Bengal or Bihar, their entry point States. In that case, where these people will go? The density of population in Bihar stands at 1102 per sq km., and in West Bengal it stands at 1029 per sq km. In Nagaland, the density of population stands at 119 per sq km. Now, you can work out the logic yourself in what manner population stabilization will be worked out by the Government of India in due course of time. Therefore, in my earlier statement, I have said that the affect of CAB will come only after 10, 15 years and not in a matter of one or two years. The explanations of incorporating ILP in the CAA or exemption of Nagaland from CAA etc. have got nothing to do with population politics. We must understand the dangers of CAA and take precautionary measure before it is too late. The Act was passed by both Houses of Parliament but the rules are yet to be framed. Yet before the rules are framed, some States are in a hurry and registered so many even now according to report. Dimapur city is the commercial hub of Nagaland. It is the miniature of India. Besides the Naga population from all different tribes, we have people from all different States in India living here together and practicing their own faith freely and openly. Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Budhists etc. have been living together in harmony. You practice freely and openly with full respect for one another. People from different places, practicing
different faiths and living together in harmony is the real model of Indian secularism enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution. NPF stand to support it. The NPF Legislature Party wanted the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to pass resolution against CAA. We may belong to different political parties but all of us have common future. If a storm comes, that storm cannot read or recognise who is NPF or who is NDPP, but it will destroy everything in its own way. I want to appeal to the leaders of Nagaland not to gamble with the future of our children for their own prestige sake or for their immediate gain. Political parties may come and go, government also may come and go but the people of Nagaland will continue to live together for all time to come. The ruling NDPPBJP is now defending CAA with various points. They have directed their MP (LS) to vote in favour of the Bill, NPF was not so kind to their member in Rajya Sabha, because NPF is against CAA from the very beginning. To be more precise, NPF is against CAA but NDPP is supporting CAA; that is the difference. Now, coming to the development program, for information only, we are happy to see many developmental activities particularly in road sector in Nagaland during the last two years. Recently, the present Government
has published through news media that the Nagaland Government has been given some projects by the Centre. Let us take it as good news, but as far as the works going on now or done during the last two years, sanctions were obtained by the previous NPF Govt. Some important projects are like : 1. Const. of 2-lane road from Golaghat Gate to Purana Bazar. 2. Four-lane road from Purana Bazar to Patkai Bridge, the foundation was laid by the former Chief Minister, Mr. T.R.Zeliang in Sept. 2017. 3. The Capital Road from Kohima to Dimapur via Dzüdza river to Niuland. 4. Two-lane road through Kohima city from Police Check gate at Byepass to Police Check-gate at Lierie (Phesama). 5. All Kohima Town roads in three groups etc. etc. In conclusion, I want to say that we are in the Opposition at the moment. We have to take this opportunity as a blessing in disguise. Let us try to learn lessons as opposition members so that we can do better next time when we take over the Government again in the near future. We stand on solid ground and there is nothing to fear. Tirupati (AP), Feb 11 (PTI): Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa offered prayers at the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at nearby Tirumala on Tuesday and left for Colombo, winding up his five-day tour of India. Rajapaksa, who stayed at the heavily guarded TTD Guest House on the hills overnight after his arrival on Monday evening, came to the over 2,000-year old shrine just before the crack of dawn and spent about an hour, officials said. Clad in the traditional attire of white shirt and silk dhoti, the 74-year old Lank-

The visiting leader was presented a sacred silk cloth, a holy memento and sacred prasadam by the temple officials.

After a brief halt in the guest house on his return from the temple, Rajapaksa left for Colombo from Renigunta. This is Rajapaksa’s maiden visit to the temple as Prime Minister. He had visited the shrine and paid his obeisance to Lord Venkateswara on several occasions in the past as the island nation’s President and also after demitting the high office, officials said. Rajapaksa, who arrived in India on Friday on his first overseas tour after being appointed as Sri Lankan prime minister in November last year, had visited Varanasi, Sarnath and Bodh Gaya after his engagements in New Delhi. On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held talks with Rajapaksa, elder brother of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, covering the entire expanse of bilateral ties between the two countries including in areas of defence and security.

CBI vs CBI: Rakesh Asthana gets clean chit money laundering case related to the controversial meat exporter Moin Qureshi. The CBI also concluded that there was no connection between Asthana and Prasad. The CBI also stated that “there was no role of any public servant” in the discussion Babu had with Prasad. CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla agreed with Investigating Officer Satish Dagar and four others in the hierarchy that “no case” was made out against public servants, including Asthana. Asthana was booked on the allegations of criminal conspiracy, corruption and criminal misconduct under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act) on a complaint filed by Hyderabad-based businessman Sathish Babu Sana. Asthana had strongly refuted the charges. The CBI on October 15, 2018, had registered an FIR against Asthana for allegedly taking a bribe from an accused probed by him in return for ensuring relief and a clean chit in the case. The case against Asthana was lodged after Hyderabad-based businessman Sana in his complaint to the CBI had alleged that he paid a bribe of Rs 2 crore to Asthana to be spared of any action in an investigation linked to meat exporter Moin Qureshi.
Rakesh Asthana New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday gave a clean chit to former CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana and R&AW Chief Samant Goel in a bribery case registered by the agency in 2018. The CBI has chargesheeted Dubai-based private person Manoj Prasad, whom it had earlier arrested. The CBI also found the call details between Prasad and complainant Sathish Sana Babu. The investigating agency has moved an application in the court contending that further probe against his brother, Somesh and Sunil Mittal, is required. According to the CBI officials, there is “no evidence” that shows Asthana ever demanded or paid any bribe to save complainant Babu in the

NEW DELHI, FEB 11 (AGENCIES): India’s electricity demand rose 3.52 per cent in January, government data showed on Tuesday, marking the first increase after five straight months of decline. January demand for electricity rose to 105.29 billion units from 101.71 billion units a year earlier, data from the Central Electricity Authority showed. India’s annual electricity demand in 2019 grew at its slowest pace in six years, amid a broader economic slowdown that led to a drop in sales of everything from cars to food products and also has led to factories cutting jobs.

Forex traders said the rupee continued to consolidate in a narrow range ahead of inflation and industrial production number that will be released on Wednesday. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency opened on a positive note at 71.23. During the day, it saw a high of 71.19 and a low of 71.33.

NEW DELHI, FEB 11 (AGENCIES): Indian economic growth is poised to bounce back after slipping to a more than six-year low of 4.5% in the July-September quarter as the government has taken measures to prop up investments and consumer demand, a top government adviser said. “Corporate tax reductions, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and the banking sector reforms have helped and will help propel growth further,” Sanjeev Sanyal, principal economic adviser at the finance ministry, told Reuters. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, introduced in May 2016, has helped banks to recover billions of dollars stuck in outstanding corporate loans and offer loans to new borrowers. Saint Martin’s Island, Feb 11 (AFP): At least 15 women and children drowned and more than 50 others were missing after a boat overloaded with Rohingya refugees sank off southern Bangladesh as it tried to reach Malaysia Tuesday, officials said. Some 138 people -- mainly women and children -- were packed on a trawler barely 13 metres (40 feet) long, trying to cross the Bay of Bengal, a coast guard spokesman told AFP. “It sank because of overloading. The boat was meant to carry maximum 50 people. The boat was also loaded with some cargo,” another coast guard spokesman, Hamidul Islam, added. Seventy-one people have been rescued including 46 women. Among the dead, 11 were women and the rest children. Anwara Begum said
two of her sons, aged six and seven, drowned in the tragedy. “We were four of us in the boat... Another child (son, aged 10) is very sick,” the 40-year-old told AFP. Fishermen tipped off the coast guard after they saw survivors swimming and crying for help in the sea. The boat’s keel hit an undersea coral in shallow water off Saint Martin’s island, Bangladesh’s southernmost territory, before it sank, survivors said. “We swam in the sea before boats came and rescued us,” said survivor Mohammad Hossain, 20. trawlers used by traffickers. Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a repatriation deal to send back some Rohingya to their homeland, but none have agreed to return because of safety fears. Jerusalem, Feb 11 (IANS): In a massive breach, an election app named Elector in use by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party exposed sensitive personal data -- including identity card numbers, full names and addresses of the country’s entire national voting registration of about 6.5 million citizens. The Authority for Defending Privacy issued a statement Monday night that it had opened a probe into the actions of multiple parties involved in Likud’s leak of the personal information of close to 6.5 million Israeli voters, The Jerusalem Post reported on Monday. The statement said that the authority would
probe both the Likud officials responsible and third parties hired by the party, who had obligations to protect the personal data, the report added. The massive breach was tied to a mobile app used by PM Netanyahu and his Likud party to communicate with voters, offering news and information about the March 2 election. The flaw, first reported by the newspaper Haaretz, was the latest in a long series of large-scale software and data breaches that demonstrated the inability of governments and corporations around the world to safeguard people’s private information and ensure the integrity of electoral systems, according to The New York Times.
Mallya arrives for High Court appeal against extradition to India London, Feb 11 (PTI): Liquor baron Vijay Mallya arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Tuesday for his appeal against being extradited to India to face fraud and money laundering charges amounting to Rs 9,000 crores. The 64-year-old former Kingfisher Airlines boss, who remains on bail since his arrest on an extradition warrant in April 2017, avoided the usual scrum of reporters at the court entrance and went in with his lawyers separately. Rahman and musical artiste Ameya Dabli are set to perform at the ‘”Ekam Satt Unity Concert: The 50th Symphony”. When asked how he views the “unity” concert, Rahman told PTI, “It’s going in the right direction and even though in today’s cynical world, when you say ‘oneness’ people ask, ‘What oneness are you talking about?’ because there’s so much of divisive politics happening, there’s so much divisive mentality. “But ultimately as human beings, we are hardwired for unity, we find
peace in unity, in sharing hopes, knowledge and in that context, this seems to be an amazing idea,” he added. When asked whether it was important for artistes to speak about love and unity at a time of divisive politics, the musician said it was better for people to discover the truth on their own. “Take school children for example. If you tell them anything, they will tell you, “You have already told me twice. You don’t have to tell me again.” (So), it’s better for people to find truth themselves. That’s the best thing. “I think there’s the birth of a new world that’s coming in, which is going to be beautiful. And birth, always, has pain. Some of the stuff is intertwined with Indian Classical music. I like going back to them and playing some masterpieces.” Rahman said only a spiritually-minded person can come up with music that is healing. “If you have a cook, who has dirty hands, you will fall sick! Same goes for music. When you are composing, you are giving something to millions of
people or even 10 people, it is a process of meditation and service. That’s what I have been taught and I have been trying to do.” Personally, the composer said, the process of creating music has healed him. “The selflessness that comes in and there’s a certain quality of music, which makes you feel redeemed that you are not bothered about the results. The process in itself is so beautiful. “Take so many classical singers, their ‘ragas’ elevate them as well as satisfy them. Satisfaction is a rare thing. No matter how much money you have, you are never satisfied but I think, music has that quality. Pele has suffered a series of health problems in recent years, including a urinary tract infection that left him hospitalised for 13 days last April, reports Xinhua news agency. The 79-yearold former Santos and New York Cosmos forward has also encountered complications related to hip replacement surgery and now needs a frame to walk. “He is very sheepish, reclusive,” his son Edinho told TV Globo. “Imagine, he’s the king, he was always such an imposing figure and today he can’t walk properly. He’s embarrassed, he doesn’t want to go out, be seen, or do practically anything that involves leaving the house.” Pele scored a world record tally of 1,281 goals in a 1,363-match professional career that spanned 21 years. He was capped 91 times for Brazil and scored 77 international goals.
Lifelong pension being given to athletes: Kiren Rijiju NEW DEHLI, FEB 11 (PTI): Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday said at the Parliament that lifelong pensions are being given to athletes under the ‘Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons’ scheme. He informed the Rajya Sabha that 627 sportspersons are currently receiving monthly pensions under the scheme. Indian sportspersons winning medals at international sporting or paralympic events are eligible for lifelong pension upon retirement, or after attaining the age of 30 years, whichever is later. In a written reply to a question, Rijiju said that monthly pensions, ranging between Rs 12,000 and Rs 20,000, are being disbursed under the scheme to medal winners at international sporting events such as the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games, World Cups and World Championships. The minister also informed the Upper House that the government is coming to the aid of for-

Mount Maunganui, Feb 11 (IANS): Colin de Grandhomme smashed an unbeaten 28-ball 58 as New Zealand crushed India by five wickets in the final ODI at the Bay Oval on Tuesday, thereby clinching the threematch series 3-0. Grandhomme came in to bat when the Black Caps, chasing 297, were 220/4 at the end of 40 overs. The big-hitting all-rounder took the game by the scruff of the neck by taking a liking to Shardul Thakur who went for 83 runs in nine overs as he smacked six fours and three sixes during his stay at the crease. Besides him, opener Henry Nicholls set the tone of the chase with a wellpaced 80 off 103 balls (9x4) with contributions from Martin Guptill (66) and Tom Latham, who was unbeaten on 32 alongwith Grandhomme. GUWAHATI, FEB 11 (AGENCIES): Indian Super League club NorthEast United FC has parted ways with manager Robert Jarni, with Khalid Jamil announced as the interim head coach. The announcement came hours after NorthEast drew 3-3 with Jamshedpur FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. The club said in a statement: “NorthEast
United FC would hereby like to confirm that the club has parted ways with head coach Robert Jarni and his coaching staff through mutual agreement. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the best interests of the club and our recent performances in the ISL.” Jarni had replaced Eelco Schattorie as the NorthEast United manager at the start of the 2019-20 season. With three league rounds left to play, NorthEast lies second from bottom, having scored the least number of goals in the ISL (12). The club is on a 11-match winless run. Correspondent Wokha, Feb 11 (NPN): The 5th Lt Emi Merry (IAS) memorial women football and volleyball championship 2020 organised by Wokha district women sports association (WDWSA) got underway at local football ground, Wokha on Tuesday. Vilone Sakhrie, Addl. Director and HoD, Dept. of Women Resource Development graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, Sakhrie said organising a women’s
tournament was his long dream to promote women in the field of sports, stating that his dream had been initiated by the WDWSA. He further suggested women’s tournament in the state which can accommodate women of all districts. He noted that in early days women were not allowed to play because games were dominated by males and now time has changed and women participate in every field. Sakhrie reminded the gathering that participation was more important

Dubai, Feb 11 (IANS): Font-foot no ball technology will be used at the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia slated to be played later this month. The decision to use this system was made after successful trials conducted recently in both India and the West Indies. The third umpire will monitor the front foot landing position after each ball and communicate to the on-field umpire if the delivery was a no ball. The on-field umpires have been instructed not to call any front foot no balls unless advised to do so by the third umpire, although they will be responsible for calling all other types of no ball on the field. The technology was recently tested across 12 games, during which 4,717 balls were bowled and 13 no balls (0.28 per cent of deliveries) were called. All deliveries were judged accurately.

New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS): Former India and Pakistan players Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi said that cricket matches between the two countries will be better for the game as a whole. Afridi said that the series would be “bigger than the Ashes.” Both players have been part of teams that toured either countries in bilateral series. While they have retired from international cricket, Yuvraj and Afridi still play T20 leagues around the world. “I remember playing against Pakistan in 2004, 2006 and 2008 in bilateral series. These days yeah, there has not been enough of that. But these things are not in our hands. We play cricket for the love of the sport. We cannot choose which coun-
try to play against ourselves. But what I can say is that the more India v Pakistan cricket there is, the better it is for the sport,” Yuvraj told Sports360. “I think, if India and Pakistan were to have a series, it will be something bigger than the Ashes. However, we don’t seem to get it. We are letting politics get in the way of people’s love for this sport and their wish to come together,” said Afridi. “I think we need to put a few things behind us as well and so does India.
