Kolk ata/ New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI /IA NS): Trinamool Congress workers Tuesday joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters in various parts of West Bengal to celebrate the spectacular victory of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party and BJP’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls.
AAP supporters carrying party flags and posters were seen distributing sweets at various places in the city to celebrate the party’s win. TMC cadres were seen brusting crackers and distributing sweets along with AAP supporters in different areas of the state to celebrate the defeat of BJP in the elections.

AAP will hold a mega victory rally from Park Circus seven point crossing to central Kolkata on Wednesday to celebrate the party’s stupendous victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, party sources said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday congratulated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who is poised to return to power in Delhi with a thumping majority for the third straight time.
Banerjee, who is also the TMC supremo, tweeted “Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal as #DelhiResults show @AamAadmiParty all set to win #DelhiElection2020 with a thumping majority yet again. Leaders playing on faith through hate speech & divisive politics should take a cue, as only those who deliver on their promises are rewarded”. Zero out of 10: Parvesh Verma’’s performance If Delhi poll result is a barometer for performance of an MP, then BJP’’s controversial member of parliament Parvesh Verma scored a fantastic duck. Out of the ten Assembly seats that falls under his West Delhi constituency, none have been won by the BJP.
Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri, Madipur, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Vikaspuri, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala and Najafgarh - you name it, all have been taken control by AAP candidates with decisive margin. His protege Tajinder Bagga who was fighting from Hari Nagar and Verma made numerous rounds to bolster his campaign also lost from the seat. So much so, Verma unveiled a constituency specific manifesto for Bagga. Nothing seems to have cut the ice. Same goes with Rajiv Babbar, who fought from Tilak Nagar, a constituency Bagga hoped he would get a ticket from. Babbar is not a newbie. In run of to 2019 general election, the BJP had appointed Rajiv Babbar, as in-charge of East Delhi parliamentary constituency. Babbar held “training” for BJP workers back then but in 2020, failed to perform himself.
Ashish Sood from Janakpuri is another old horse. AAP’’s Rajesh Rishi outperformed BJP’’s Ashish Sood by a magnificent margin that went above 50,000 votes.
The spectacular debacle is surprising given BJP’’s main electoral agenda till they raised ‘’Shaheen bagh’’ -- regularisation of unauthorised colonies find resonance in this Lok Sabha constituency. A large chunk of those 1,700 unauthorised colonies fall under Verma’’s area. Yet, this debacle raises question on his ability as well as his aggressive campaign pitch probably backfiring.
Verma, an otherwise non controversial MP and son of BJP’’s former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma came to the limelight when he attacked the blockade at Shaheen Bagh and even suggesting that the protesters are “rapists and murderers”. Even on the day of election, half way through, he tweeted a provocative video that started with Shaheen Bagh bashing and ended with “Jai Shri Ram”, a religious chant, intended to polarise the voting.
B u t Fe b r u a r y 1 1 proved, people from his own constituency didn’’t buy his argument, leave aside people of Delhi listening to him. At least two Delhi BJP leaders told IANS on condition of anonymity that “few of our leaders went a bit too far on Shaheen Bagh”, without naming Verma. Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday said the party will review why it failed to meet its own expectations in the Assembly polls and saw a moral victory in the fact that the party’s vote share has increased since 2015.
“Delhi must have given mandate after careful thinking. Our vote percentage has increased from 32 per cent to around 38 per cent. Delhi did not reject us and the increase (in vote share) is a good sign for us,” he told reporters. He said the BJP hopes that there would be less blame game and more work in the national capital and congratulated Arvind Kejriwal on his party’s victory in the polls. After winning the Patparganj seat, AAP senior leader Manish Sisodia accused the BJP of indulging in the politics of hate.
“We indulge in politics of development not politics of hate. We’re against the roadblock in Shaheen Bagh as we were earlier,” he said. Don’t get disheartened by defeat, reads poster at BJP’s office on results day New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI ): As the AAP is all set for a massive victory in the Delhi assembly elections, posters were seen at the BJP’s office featuring Amit Shah’s pictures with a message that the party neither becomes arrogant with victory nor gets disheartened with defeat.
The posters at the BJP’s Delhi unit office carried the message “Vijay se hum anhakari nahi hote haar se hum hatash nahi hote (Victory doesn’t make us arrogant, and defeat doesn’t dishearten us).
Shah was the force behind the BJP’s high octane campaign in the national capital, where the party had deployed more than 200 of its MPs, Union ministers and many chief ministers. The posters at the BJP’s Delhi unit office. Delhi didn’t reject us, our vote share has increased: Manoj Tiwari

Don Bosco College, Kohima ADVERTISEMENT New Delhi, Feb 11 (IA NS): A Delhi court on Tuesday directed the Crime Branch to file in 15 days an Action Taken Report (ATR) on a complaint filed by Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat against BJP lawmakers Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma for alleged inflammatory remarks.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja declined Crime Branch’s request to grant eight weeks’ time to file the report, contending that the “matter is sensitive”. The matter will now be taken up on February 26 at 10 a.m.
If no cognizable offence is made out, then file a detailed report, the judge directed.
Karat had filed the complaint against the BJP leaders on charges of outraging religious feelings, intending to provoke breach of trust and criminal intimidation.
“Direct that the investigation into the FIR be monitored by issuing necessary directions to the SHO concerned to investigate the matter fairly, properly and impartially, including arrest of the accused in accordance with the law,” Karat said in her application.
The application was filed under Section 156 (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure which empowers a magistrate to direct the police to conduct investigation into any matter.

The charge sheet in the case would be filed within two weeks, she said.
“The accused is in police remand till February 20 and we will try to file the charge sheet before the end of that period,” Jadhav said. She also dismissed reports in a section of media that the accused was accompanied by a couple of persons at the time of crime.
According to information gathered by the probe team, the accused executed the crime alone and was not accompanied by any person, the official said.
The state government on Monday appointed renowned lawyer Ujjwal Nikam as special public prosecutor in the case.
Making the announcement in Mumbai, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray assured that the case, which has triggered widespread public anger and outrage, will be tried in a fast- track court to ensure speedy justice to the victim and her family. During his decadeslong career, Nikam (66) has handled several high-profile cases like the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts and the film producer Gulshan Kumar murder case. Verma was reported as saying that mosques and graveyards had come up in over 500 government properties in the national capital, including hospitals and schools.
He said that the land where these “illegal structures” have come up belong to the Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporations of Delhi, Delhi Jal Board and many other government agencies.
Thakur and Verma were then barred from campaigning by the Election Commission for 72 hours and 96 hours respectively in the run-up to the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls.
