This was among the three-point resolution adopted at the meeting of the legislature party held on December 12 at the residence of the legislature party leader, T.R. Zeliang. Both the MPs had voted in favour of the Bill in the recent Parliament session. The party also resolved to challenge the inaction of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker on the disqualification petition filed against the seven dissident NPF MLAs in the court of law. Meanwhile, the opposition party appreciated the state government for extending promulgation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Dimapur district, adding that its had been the demand of the NPF party.

Post DNSU vice president, Sentimeren said that since the bill (CAB) was already passed, the union would wait for the next course of action if the North East Students Organization (NESO) or NSF have any further plans. DNSU has demanded that the government effectively implement Inner Line Permit (ILP), not only in Dimapur, but whole of Nagaland. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the Dimapur station during the bandh. Talking to Nagaland Post, some passengers said they were caught unawares of the bandh. It was only after 12 noon, the passengers were able to move out to their respective destina-
tions. Dimapur Railway station manager, Soumendra Mazumder mentioned that despite NFR cancelling several trains in view of disruptions in train movement, Nagaland express arrived Dimapur Saturday, around 6.10 a.m. particularly for Dimapur passenger. He also said that three special trains were being provided by the NFR for passengers (Guwahati-Dimapur-Guwhati). Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetso was also present at the station to take stock of the situation. He expressed concern that over 700 passengers were stranded at Guwahati station, mostly students. Though special train service was provided,
many were not aware of it, he added. It may be mentioned that to assist Dimapurbound passengers stranded in various parts of Assam and many passengers planning to travel to Dimapur, Nagaland in transit through Assam, a joint control room has also been set up at Police Control Room, Office of Police Commissioner, Dimapur. Lok Sabha MP clarifies on voting in favour of CAB
DIMAPUR, DEC 14 (NPN): Lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, Tokheho Yepthomi Saturday issued a statement clarifying his stand as to why he had voted in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 in the recently held Winter Parliament session. Tokheho pointed out that in the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 there was nothing mentioned about protection of North Eastern States. On the contrary, he said the CAB that was recently passed by Parliament, was amended to give protection to states under the Sixth Schedule and Bengal Eastern Frontier Act 1873. He said during the meeting of the NDA held on November 17, 2019 the MPs from Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland had urged Union Home Minister to exempt their states from the CAB, which was agreed upon in the presence of the Prime Minister. Tokheho
maintained that the exclusion of various states from CAB was possible only because of co-ordination of MPs from the Northeast and the MPs will continue to do so. To clarify doubts about inclusion of ILP in the amended CAB, he urged all to spare time and read the contents of the Bill. Tokheho said his duty as MP from Nagaland was to serve in the interest of the state. It was only after the assurance given to the MPs by Home Minister, to exempt Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland out of the purview of CAB, Tokheho said he supported the bill in parliament. “My voting in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill was not a unilateral decision. It was a decision taken after directives from my party President and leaders that I supported CAB in parliament,” he stated. (Full text on p-6)
There was total closure in the main town area. However, some shops in other parts of Kohima remained open. It was reported that Angami Public Organization had issued directives, asking shops to remain open. However, none from the APO could be contacted for comment. Interacting with media persons, NSF vice president Deivi Yano and general secretary Liremo Kikon informed that they did not receive any official intimation from APO about the directive. They however said that the bandh was successful and peaceful in Kohima and across the state. NSF said since it was a lightning bandh, many people were exempted for the purview of the bandh particularly students appearing exams. NSF further acknowledged the support and cooperation rendered by the public in observing the bandh successfully. Meanwhile, with regard to the explanation sought from the three Naga MPs, NSF said the issue would be taken up during the federal assembly scheduled to be held on December (Cont’d on p-7) 16.
