He also said the Centre would come out with the final version of the Naga Framework Agreement, signed between it and the NSCN (I-M) in August 2015, to solve the Naga imbroglio within the tenure of the Narendra Modi government.

3 held for leaking CBSE class 12 Economics paper NEW DELHI, APR 7 (IANS): A Special Investigation Team of Delhi Police has arrested a teacher of a private school, a clerk and a support staff from Himachal Pradesh on charges of leaking the CBSE Class 12 Economics paper, an officer said on Saturday.

The SIT found out that the Economics paper was leaked in handwritten format two days prior to the exam held on March 26.

“The SIT has interrogated over 70 people, including ‘WhatsApp’ admins, school teachers, ground staff, students and others in connection with the leak.

“It traced the transmission of the leak, including its point of origin and who all were the beneficiaries.

“Finally on the basis of crucial clues and leads the arrests were made from Himachal Pradesh,” Special Commissioner of Police R.P. Upadhyaya said.

The investigators had sought the deleted chats and contexts shared by the group members and the Whatsapp admins amongst each others. Via an email to the ‘Whatsapp’ Headquarters in California in US, the team was able to revive the deleted conversation that cracked the case.

The Union minister of state for home told a press conference here that the NSCN (I-M)’s demand for unification of all the Nagainhabited areas, including parts of Assam and other neighbouring states, would not be included in the final agreement.

He said the sovereignty and “other serious issues” had been dropped from the NSCN (I-M)’s charter of demands and the Naga Framework Agreement was signed under the ambit of the Constitution.

Referring to the “outside agencies” and “elements” who were trying to foment trouble in the North Eastern region, the

BJP leader said, “We know about the groups and we are tracking them. Anyone found indulging in antinational activities will be firmly dealt with.

“We have an intelligence mechanism, which is much robust now.”

On the final version of the Naga Framework Agreement, he said, “We (Centre) are progressing with absolute clarity. The unique history of the Nagas will be recognised and we will come out with a clear, tangible solution.

“Talks for Naga solution has been going on for long. But we want to go by concrete timeline for a clear and tangible solution,” Rijiju said.

He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Nagaland in the run-up to the elections, himself had assured of reaching the solution in few months.

“The progress is being reviewed on a case to case basis, and the talks are in final stages,” he added.

“I have told the people of Nagaland that we will come out with a clear tangible solution,” Rijiju reiterated. Solution to the Naga

problem was one of the major poll planks for all political parties in the Nagaland assembly polls this year.

After People’s Democratic Alliance, a coalition of NDPP, BJP, JD (U) and Independents, came to power chief minister Neiphiu Rio has prioritized “inclusive and acceptable” solution through collective endeavor of the state government, Centre and stakeholders of Nagaland.

However, the framework agreement was a bone of contention for different quarters in Assam, Manipur as well as Arunachal Pradesh. There were demands from these states to make the contents of the agreement public.

Rijiju maintained that the talks with Naga groups are on for a political solution and “not one inch” of territorial integrity of other states will be compromised in the process.

Rijiju also spoke about the government’s special development packages for border areas, but steered clear of a question on increased Chinese aggression, saying, “It is too sensitive an issue to comment on.”

Governor Acharya bats for universal health coverage DIMAPUR, APR 7 (NPN): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, on the occasion of World Health Day, called for achieving the goal of universal health coverage, which was to ensure that all people obtain the health services they need without suffering financial hardship when paying for them.

World Health Day, a global health awareness day, is observed on April 7 every year. This year, it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO).

In his message, Acharya appealed to the state department of health & family welfare and all private health care centres to continue rendering their services for the welfare of the society and to focus on universal health coverage.

He asserted that people should not experience any financial hardship while getting quality medical service.

The gover nor also called upon the people of the State to remain in their best of health and to inspire other to live a healthy life.

RSU & SDEO organises joint MDM sensitization programme DIMAPUR: Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) along with Sub-Divisional Education Office (SDEO) held a “Joint Sensitization Programme on Mid Day Meal (MDM) Schemecum-Meeting of Teachers and Staff ” on April 4 at Tseminyu town hall.

RSU president, Kisheto Kent dwelt on the topic of school improvement and the stand of RSU that no proxy teacher would be allowed under any circumstances. He warned of action against any teacher practising proxy.

Neiba Kronu in his speech stated that before his involvement in politics,

he was a leader in many capacities such as the NSF President and was deeply involved in helping farmers in availing loans through many funding agencies such as Banks, NABARD, central schemes etc. Since then he had an interest to work for the public and so he joined politics.

He also spoke about the importance of land and its uses and stated that Land Records & Survey was a very important department dealing with all the developmental activities in the state.

He asked the department officials to fully cooperate and coordinate with each other and him since he aims to revamp the land system in the state. In order to create a working system and to make land more valuable, Neiba stressed on the need to convert our land into cadastral land.

The importance of land can be assessed based on current developmental works such as four-lane road and railway projects etc. he said. The minister also stressed on the need of pro-

viding quick land clearance for investors willing to set up firms in the state. He stated that transparency should be maintained strictly in the working procedure adding that it is the duty of all to protect Government land.

He encouraged the Department to work wholeheartedly for the welfare of the public, since PDA Government is going to assess timely performance of each and every department.

This being his first time in the Department, he asked the Department personnel

to put forward their suggestions, queries or grievances for the betterment and improvement of the department. It concluded with a healthy discussion and the minister also agreed to assist the department to the best of his ability. The meeting was chaired by Chubasangla Anar, Secretary to the Govt. of Nagaland, Land Revenue & NRE. He held a meeting with the staff at the Conference Hall of the Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner at Nagaland Civil Secretariat.

A press release issued through Additional Development Commissioner, Planning & Co-ordination Department stated that the minister spoke on the need to evolve an appropriate system to give direction to new development models, and also evolve plans to develop

the state at all fronts with a substantial and efficient delivery system. Referring to the commitment of the present PDA government for bringing change, Kronu stated that basic necessary changes in the system needed to be implemented and enforced immediately because the new government sets targets of 100 or 200 days or a year as the deadline to achieve goals.

He also told the meeting that the government would strictly monitor the performances of all departments and identify performing and non-performing departments which would affect allocation of financial outlays.

He further pointed out the importance of the Planning Department to state development activities and he

encouraged the officers and staff of the department to be efficient and effective in delivering services and strive to become the best performing department.

The calendar of action for the planning department’s businesses was finalized and important agendas concerning state developmental activities, including escalation of project costs, negotiated loans, lingering projects, file clearing process and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) were discussed.

The meeting was chaired by Commissioner and Secretary, M. Patton, while Additional Development Commissioner, Nosazol Charles presented the activities of the department and initiated the discussions on the agendas.

The 24th batch of skill training programme for unemployed youth began on January 22 with 64 trainees from 18 different tribes and communities from Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. 60 trainees successfully completed the training in assistant beauty therapist and food and beverages service steward domains. All the 60 trainees have received offer letters from companies.

The 25th batch of the Skill Training Programme for Unemployed Youth will begin on April 19 wherein the centre has been planning to train 100 youth in this ‘silver batch.’

proper foundation as was being done at the national level. On the allegation of the BJP party having a hidden agenda, he strongly reiterated that there was no such ‘agenda’ speaking from his 18 years of experience working for the party. “If there were any such thing, I would be the first person to protest it”, Vizo said.

Vizo dwelt for a while on the five main objectives of the party like nationalism and national integration, commitment to democracy, Gandhi’s nationalism, positive secularism and value based politics. He also challenged the gathering to fulfil the promises in the election manifesto that was released during the election campaign.

The programme was chaired by BJP Nagaland vice-president, Kuputo Shohe, the invocation prayer was said by SABCK Pastor, Himali Kiba, a welcome address was delivered by BJP Nagaland, secretary, Lima Onen Chang, while the vote of thanks was proposed by president Mahila Nagaland, Sano Ngullie. These were constructed at Liezha–A colony near SBI and Kherüthi–A colony and made available to the villagers. Yadav explained that the 78 Bn CRPF organizes such

programmes every year to address grievances and to provide very basic amenities to nearby villagers.

The commandant, in his speech, appealed to the DIGP CRPF Kohima for more funds so that more such civic action programmes could be implemented for the welfare of the local people.

Ingobi Chingtham from Manipur is travelling on a “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” awareness journey from Manipur on bicycle. He will travel to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On his way, in Dimapur, he also met the Principal of St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Latika Complex, Dimapur. The journey will cover a distance of 2500 Kms spanning 16 days passing through Nagaland, Assam, Bihar and UP.

1st quarterly Dimapur DDMA meeting held

DIMAPUR: The first quarterly meeting of Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was held on Saturday, at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur.

According to a DIPR report, deputy commissioner Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel informed the departments to submit the filled in format for India Disaster Resource (IDR) early so that could be updated in the system. He K Y M C

also advised, specially the PWD, Power, KMC and other line departments, to strengthen their disaster management plans as preparation for the monsoon. He also asked the medical department to take necessary preventive measures for controlling the mosquito population.

Sushil informed the meeting that the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness exercise will be conducted on April 26 and requested all the departments to be

prepared for the same.

ADC Dimapur, Sara Jamir, reminded all the departments to be prepared for the onset of the monsoon season. She advised the DMC to clean up drains and also to ensure that sufficient provisions were kept for road repairs within colonies and give them construction permits.

She observed that in some colonies it was difficult even for fire engines to pass through during disasters.

According to DIPR,

Sara further requested all the departments to update their disaster management plan “and also to keep updating the available machineries.” The ADC, while pointing out that many cases of recent disasters in Dimapur were due to short circuits, advised the power department to create awareness on the proper usage of power and electrical safety.

District disaster management officer Dimapur, Rendemo, informed the meeting that TOTs would train village level volunteers as Community First Responders from next month in all the 6 sub divisions under Dimapur district. On updating of District Disaster Management Plan, Rendemo said that the plan would be prepared, making reference to the departmental disaster management plan, and he therefore requested all the departments to take this into consideration.

The meeting was attended by all DDMA members including police and para military force.

Cong MLA apologises for verbal abuse

Ag a rta l a , A p r 7 (IANS): Border Security Force (BSF) troopers on Friday seized a huge quantity of drugs bound for Bangladesh and arrested a smuggler in Tripura, a BSF official said.

“The troopers arrested Indian national Rashid Mia, 32, and seized 481 kg dry ‘ganja’ from his house in border village of Jatrapur in western Tripura. The market price of the contraband is Rs 24 lakh.”

In another raid, the troopers seized 2,895 habitforming tablets in Srimantapur, also in Sepahijala district.

IMPHAL, Apr 7: Sitting Congress legislator, Md Nasir was Saturday forced to apologise for using abusive language against the residents of Nagaram in Imphal. The MLA representing Lliong Assembly constituency of Thoubal district had earlier used verbally abused the residents of the village when he (MLA) was asked to abide by the law of the hamlet while constructing a new house.

Nagaram village has its own set of rules, which includes prohibition from purchase or selling of land to people outside the community. But, much against the wishes of the residents, Md. Abdul Nasir had purchased a land at Nagaram without the consent of the village authority and started construction work for his new home.

When the residents of Nagaram came to know about the MLA’s plan, some senior member belonging to the community reportedly halted the construction on

“The media personnel in the northeastern states can only help in shedding the negative image of the region and project it as a destination of people who have historical and traditional rights which needs to be protected and preserved,” said the NPA president.

Meanwhile, the president of the SPC Dr Mahanta welcomed the NPA president’s speech and at the same time highly appreciated the Nagaland press fraternity for joining in the silver jubilee celebration.

Sibsagar Deputy Commissioner, ONGC Executive Director SD Maske and others joined in the celebration.

It may be noted here that the Sibsagar Press Association, which was formed in the year 1993, is said to be one of the most versatile press clubs in Assam.

Constable dies after being hit by M’laya minister son’s Mercedes

Shillong, Apr 7: A constable of the Meghalaya armed police was killed and a jail officials injured in an accident involving a Mercedes car driven by Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Hek’s son early on Saturday, police said.

Police said that the head-on collision between the Mercedes and a twowheeler driven by jail official Probin D. Sangma and constable Probat.R. Marak occurred at Fourth Furlong Tri-junction here.

The brand new, dark blue private Mercedes bearing a temporary number was driven by Hek’s son Aibansharai Nongsiej, he said.

India and Nepal get closer with proposed new cross-border rail link NEW DELHI, APR 7 (IANS): India will build a strategic railway link between Raxaul in Bihar and Kathmandu in Nepal to enhance people-to-people contact and allow bulk cargo movement with the landlocked neighbour.

The announcement was made after delegation-level talks between Indian and Nepalese officials chaired

by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart K.P. Sharma Oli, who is on a three-day visit to India.

An official statement said the the two Prime Ministers agreed to construct the new electrified rail line, “with India’s financial support”, connecting the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu in Nepal.

The objective, it said, is to expand “connectivity” between the two neighbours and “enhance people-topeople linkages and promote economic growth and development”. The proposal is significant and comes nearly two years after China in March 2016 agreed to construct a strategic railway

But an agreement on the proposed RaxaulKathmandu railway link indicates a new India-Nepal bonhomie. As a first step towards building the railway connectivity, the two sides agreed that India in consultation with Nepal will carry out preparatory survey work within one year.

Jairam Ramesh for special Parliament session in May-June NEW DELHI, APRIL 7 (IANS): After half of parliament’s budget session was washed out due to disruptions, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has written to Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu requesting a special two-week session in May-June to pass important legislation and facilitate debate and discussion.

With Parliament passing only two laws outside Budget-related Bills during the month-long session, the Budget session that concluded on Friday was the least productive Budget session since 2000, data shows.

Besides the Finance Bill and the two Appropriation Bills, the Lok Sabha could pass only the Payments of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill and the Specific Relief (Amendment) Bill in its overall 29 sittings, that too without a debate.

Extending a warm welcome to visiting Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Woman arrested for ‘selling’ child PANAJI, APR 7 (PTI): Goa police have arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly selling her 11-monthold son for Rs two lakh.

Shaila Patil, the mother of the child, alleged buyer Amar Morje (32) and Patil’s friends Yogesh Gosawi (42) and Anant Damaji (34) who allegedly helped her strike the deal were arrested yesterday after her husband lodged a complaint. Inspector Harish Madkaikar of Ponda police station, who is investigating the case, said Patil allegedly sold the child keeping her husband in the dark as she needed money. All the accused live in Pernem tehsil. Shaila Patil is originally from Pune.

She asked her friends Gosawi and Damaji to help her sell her baby son, saying she badly needed Rs two lakh. Gosawi and Damaji contacted Morje, who is married but childless and was allegedly willing to buy a baby. The child was handed over to Morje on March 23, the police officer said. Patil’s husband was away at the time. He found out what had happened on his return, and approached police, inspector Madkaikar said.

Maha to start free chemotherapy units in 10 hospitals

Salman gets bail; can’t leave country without court permission

MUMBAI, APR 7 (PTI): The government of Maharashtra announced that cancer patients would be provided free chemotherapy treatment at district hospitals with the first phase of the plan starting in June, officials said.

The plan will start with hospitals in Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Pune, Amravati, Jalgaon, Nashik, Wardha, Satara, Bhandara and Akola, an official release said.

Officials said that the move was to alleviate travelling and lodging problems of cancer patients who have to come to Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel, one of the country’s premier cancer treatment facilities, for a six week chemotherapy course as part of treatment.

It said that a physician and nurse from each of these district hospitals would be imparted training for three weeks from May by the Medical Oncology department of Tata Memorial.

State Health Minister Deepak Sawant said the initiative would help patients save in lodging and travelling expenses.

JODHPUR, APR 7 (IANS): Actor Salman Khan was granted bail by a district and sessions court in Jodhpur on Saturday in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in which he was sentenced to five years in jail on Thursday.

After spending two nights in Jodhpur Central Jail, he left after completing all legal formalities and headed back to Mumbai in a chartered flight. He cannot leave the country without the court’s permission.

The District and Sessions Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi after hearing the arguments of prosecution and defence lawyers, pronounced the order at around 3 pm. The discussion lasted for about an hour.

“Arguments were already over in the morning but Judge Joshi reserved the order for post lunch. He has to produce personal bail bond worth Rs. 50,000 and produce a Rs. 25000 surety from two persons each who shall guarantee that he will agree to all bail conditions,” said a defence counsel.

Khan’s sisters “Alvira and Arpita” were present during the hearing.

Salman Khan was sentenced to a five-year term on Thursday for killing two blackbucks in 1998 in Kankani village, near Jodhpur in Rajasthan, while shooting for the Bollywood film, “Hum Saath Saath hai.”

Blackbucks are protected under the wildlife laws.

His co-actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam Kothari and Sonal Bendre, accompanied him during poaching but were acquitted by the sessions court. This was the actor’s fourth stint in this prison.

He has earlier spent a total of 18 days in jail in 1998, 2006 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Rampal Bhawad, state president of Bishnoi Tiger Force, said

that they are disappointed with the decision of court to grant bail to Salman and said they planned to challenge this in high court.

The Bishnoi Samaj had registered the complaint against Salman for killing the two bluckbucks 20 years back as they consider the blackbuck to be the reincarnation of their religious Guru Bhagwan Jambeshwar, also known as Jambaji.

Salman Khan will also have to appear in the court on May 7 -- exactly a month after this bail, said a defence counsel.

Meanwhile, Salman’s fans cheered outside the court after hearing the verdict.

NEW DELHI, APR 7 (IANS): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said that nine crore new LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections have been distributed in the last four years, including 3.5 crore connections provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

Speaking at the launch of PMUY scheme in Delhi, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Pradhan said, LPG penetation across India has improved drastically with nine crore new LPG connections being distributed in the last four years.

He was quoted in a statement as saying that the government’s target of providing gas connections to nine crore BPL (Below Poverty Line) families by 2020 “will be incorporating genuinely poor households left out of socio economic caste survey (SECC) list and now will be empowering a wider section of society.”

MUMBAI, APR 7 (IANS): The CBI on Saturday questioned Rajiv Kocchar, brother-in-law of ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar, and Mahesh Chandra Pugalia, a close aide of Videocon Group chief Venugopal Dhoot in connection with a case relating to Rs 3,250 crore loan to the group in 2012.

Officials said that both of them were questioned at the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Bandra office.

According to CBI officials, Pugalia was previously an employee of Videocon Group and then used to offer consultancy services to it.

He is also a Director in NuPower Renewables Private Limited, the company formed by ICICI CEO MD and CEO’s husband Deepak Kocchar and Dhoot in 2008.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Kochhar was questioned for the third consecutive day in connection with the case.

KOLKATA, APRIL 7 (IANS): Emphasising on the need to transform the ongoing solar energy progress in India into a social movement, Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said the country would meet its renewable target of 175 GW, including 100 GW of solar, before the stipulated time frame of 2022.

“We have set an ambitious target for generation of clean energy including solar and the centre has been working towards its goal. The solar energy progress has started becoming into a social movement.

The country will meet its renewable target before the stipulated time,” he said here.

Exams made farce

W

hat the recent leak of CBSE class 10 maths and class 12 economics question papers reminds is that there is need for a serious thought about eliminating the factors that have made safety of question papers still vulnerable and secondly to search for other options towards a foolproof system. The papers of Class 12 Economics was held on March 26, and Class 10 Maths, held on March 28, were leaked on social media hours before the examination. The question papers were notably localised in Delhi and Haryana where they were leaked through social media (Whatsapp) a few hours before the examination. The probe led police to believe the leak happened between the time the papers were in custody of board officials and when those were kept in banks a day or two before the scheduled examination. Through Facebook or websites the leaked question papers have reached the homes of the examinees ahead of the examination.

Question paper leakage has become a regular phenomenon in public examinations in recent years.

The leakage has also raised valid questions about evaluation of scripts and placed the credibility and quality of exams, and reliability of the results under a question mark. Every time any public examination is held, there is allegation of question paper leakage. Such happenings are no longer very rare and this has further raised serious concerns among eminent educationists and conscious sections of people since these not only weaken the foundation of education but also question the credibility of the system. It is alright to blame the people who are managing the system and also demanding that the authorities need to do something about it.

However, the crisis over the education system has only worsened because of lack of will on the part of all involved, to stem the rot by ensuring that few wayward elements indulging in offences escape detection and punishment. Although education is a continuous and lifelong process, formal education or schooling is considered the most important part of the process. Therefore, there can be no excuse in not preventing leakages of question papers. It is a fraud and a crime on society. Education is meant to enlighten people with the light of knowledge and broadening their outlook. However, if students at such an impressionable age get involved in a crime like passing with the help of leaked question papers and see that such crime can go unpunished, an attitude of callousness towards the law will develop in them. Cheating in exams is also a manifestation of the gradual criminalisation of the nation’s polity. It is seen in job scams, bank scams and various scams. Those who circumvent the system will also be encouraged to engage in criminal activities, rather than being responsible citizens. Consequently, the nation will get a socially, culturally, morally and intellectually degraded future generation. The government needs to get rid of its present attitude of trying to pin blame on other except itself and go for a serious probe into the frequent incidence of question leakage and find out the causes of this nuisance.

They have seen a vision and they testify to it, but there is no connection between what they say and how they live. Their lives don’t add up because the Son of Man has not yet risen in them. Pollution facts & types of pollution

ollution is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the environment dirty and not safe or suitable to use. This can be done through the introduction of a contaminant into a natural environment, but the contaminant doesn’t need to be tangible. Things as simple as light, sound and temperature can be considered pollutants when introduced artificially into an environment.

Toxic pollution affects more than 200 million people worldwide, according to Pure Earth, a non-profit environmental organization. In some of the world’s worst polluted places, babies are born with birth defects, children have lost 30 to 40 IQ points, and life expectancy may be as low as 45 years because of cancers and other diseases. Read on to find out more about specific types of pollution.

Land pollution: Land can become polluted by household garbage and by industrial waste. In 2014, Americans produced about 258 million tons of solid waste, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A little over half of the waste — 136 million tons— was gathered in landfills.

Only about 34 percent was recycled or composted.

Organic material was the largest component of the garbage generated, the EPA said. Paper and paperboard accounted for more than 26 percent; food was 15 percent and yard trimmings were 13 percent. Plastics comprised about 13 percent of the solid waste, while rubber, leather and textiles made up 9.5 percent and metals 9 percent. Wood contributed to 6.2 percent of the garbage; glass was 4.4 percent and other miscellaneous materials made up about 3 percent.

Commercial or industrial waste is a significant portion of solid waste. According to the University of Utah, industries use 4 million pounds of materials in order to provide the average American family with needed products for one year. Much of it is classified as non-hazardous, such as construction material (wood, concrete, bricks, glass, etc.) and medical waste (bandages, surgical gloves, surgical instruments, discarded needles, etc.).

Hazardous waste is any liquid, solid or sludge waste that contain properties that are dangerous of potentially harmful to human health or the environment. Industries generate hazardous waste from mining, petroleum refining, pesticide manufacturing and other chemical production. Households generate hazardous waste as well, including paints and solvents, motor oil, fluorescent lights, aerosol cans, and ammunition.

Water pollution: Water pollution happens when chemicals or dangerous foreign substances are introduced to water, including chemicals, sewage, pesticides and fertilizers from agricultural runoff, or metals like lead or mercury.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 44 percent of assessed stream miles,

64 percent of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not clean enough for fishing and swimming. The EPA also states that the United State’s most common contaminants are bacteria, mercury, phosphorus and nitrogen.

These come from the most common sources of contaminates, that include agricultural runoff, air deposition, water diversions and channelization of streams.

Water pollution isn’t just a problem for the United States.

According to United Nations, 783 million people do not have access to clean water and around 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation. Adequate sanitation helps to keep sewage and other contaminants from entering the water supply.

According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 80 percent of pollution in marine environment comes from the land through sources like runoff. Water pollution can also severely affect marine life. For example, sewage causes pathogens to grow, while organic and inorganic compounds in water can change the composition of the precious resource. According to the EPA, low levels of dissolved oxygen in the water are also considered a pollutant. Dissolved oxygen is caused by the decomposition of organic materials, such as sewage introduced into the water.

Warming water can also be harmful. The artificial warming of water is called thermal pollution.

It can happen when a factory or power plant that is using water to cool its operations ends up discharging hot water. This makes the water hold less oxygen, which can kill fish and wildlife. The sudden change of temperature in the body of water can also kill fish. According to the University of Georgia, it is estimated that around half of the water withdrawn from water systems in the United States each year is used for cooling electric power plants.

“In nearly all cases, 90 percent of this water is returned to its source, where it can raise the water temperature in an area immediately surrounding the water discharge pipe. Depending on water flow, the water temperature quickly returns to ambient temperatures that do not harm fish.” Donn Dears, former president of TSAugust, a not for profit corporation organization focused on energy issues, told Live Science.

Nutrient pollution, also called eutrophication, is another type of water pollution. It is when nutrients, such as nitrogen, are added into bodies of water. The nutrient works like fertilizer and makes algae grow at excessive rates, according to NOAA. The algae blocks light from other plants. The plants die and their decomposition leads to less oxygen in the water.

Less oxygen in the water kills aquatic animals.

Air pollution: The air we breathe has a very exact chemical composition; 99 percent of it is made up of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor and inert gases. Air pollution occurs when things that

aren’t normally there are added to the air. A common type of air pollution happens when people release particles into the air from burning fuels. This pollution looks like soot, containing millions of tiny particles, floating in the air.

Another common type of air pollution is dangerous gases, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and chemical vapors. These can take part in further chemical reactions once they are in the atmosphere, creating acid rain and smog. Other sources of air pollution can come from within buildings, such as secondhand smoke.

Finally, air pollution can take the form of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide, which are warming the planet through the greenhouse effect. According to the EPA, the greenhouse effect is when gases absorb the infrared radiation that is released from the Earth, preventing the heat from escaping. This is a natural process that keeps our atmosphere warm. If too many gases are introduced into the atmosphere, though, more heat is trapped and this can make the planet artificially warm, according to Columbia University.

Air pollution kills more than 2 million people each year, according to a study published in the journal of Environmental Research Letters. The effects of air pollution on human health can vary widely depending on the pollutant, according to Hugh Sealy, professor and director of the environmental and occupational health track at the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, St. George’s University, St. George’s, Grenada. If the pollutant is highly toxic, the effects on health can be widespread and severe. For example, the release of methyl isocyanate gas at Union Carbide plant in Bhopal in 1984 killed over 2,000 people, and over 200,000 suffered respiratory problems. An irritant (e.g. particulates less than 10 micrometers) may cause respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular disease and increases in asthma. “The very young, the old and those with vulnerable immune systems are most at risk from air pollution. The air pollutant may be carcinogenic (e.g. some volatile organic compounds) or biologically active (e.g. some viruses) or radioactive (e.g. radon). Noise pollution: Even though humans can’t see or smell noise pollution, it still affects the environment. Noise pollution happens when the sound coming from planes, industry or other sources reaches harmful levels.

Research has shown that there are direct links between noise and health, including stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing loss.

For example, a study bythe WHO Noise Environmental Burden on Disease working group found that noise pollution may contribute to hundreds of thousands of deaths

per year by increasing the rates of coronary heart disease. Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA can regulate machine and plane noise.

Underwater noise pollution coming from ships has been shown to upset whales’ navigation systems and kill other species that depend on the natural underwater world. Noise also makes wild species communicate louder, which can shorten their lifespan.

Light pollution: Most people can’t imagine living without the modern convenience of electric lights. For the natural world, though, lights have changed the way that days and nights work.

Some consequences of light pollution are: • Some birds sing at unnatural hours in the presence of artificial light.

• Scientists have determined that long artificial days can affect migration schedules, as they allow for longer feeding times.

• Streetlights can confuse newly hatched sea turtles that rely on starlight reflecting off the waves to guide them from the beach to the ocean. They often head in the wrong direction.

• Light pollution, called sky glow, also makes it difficult for astronomers, both professional and amateur, to properly see the stars.

• Plant’s flowering and developmental patterns can be entirely disrupted by artificial light.

• According to a study by the American Geophysical Union, light pollution could also be making smog worse by destroying nitrate radicals that helps the dispersion of smog.

Turning on so many lights may not be necessary. Research published by International Journal of Science and Research estimates that over-illumination wastes about 2 million barrels of oil per day and lighting is responsible for one-fourth of all energy consumption worldwide.

Other pollution facts: • Americans generate 30 billion foam cups, 220 million tires, and 1.8 billion disposable diapers every year, according to the Green Schools Alliance.

• According to the WHO, ambient air pollution contributes to 6.7 percent of all deaths worldwide.

• The Mississippi River drains the lands of nearly 40 percent of the continental United Sates.

It also carries an estimated 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution into the Gulf of Mexico each year, resulting in a dead zone each summer about the size of New Jersey.

• Pollution in China can change weather patterns in the United States. It takes just five days for the jet stream to carry heavy air pollution from China to the United States, where it stops clouds from producing rain and snow.

• About 7 million premature deaths annually linked to air pollution, according to WHO. That is one in eight deaths worldwide.

Promoting social cohesion through theatre olympics

urope has an extensive history of theatre over the past 2500 years.

The Greek and the Roman were the best-preserved example. It had been a thriving art of entertainment that flourished in cultures across the world. Those permanent structures of western theatre are still exist through it dates of 4th century BC that developed during the ancient civilization of monarchical Kingdom. Modern Indian theatre had begun during the colonial rule. India has diverse forms in theatre from rich-traditional Maharashtra to professional theatre groups of Assam. People of northern India are fond of fun and frolic theatre from Opera based ‘Nautanki’. They are still largely an amateur form.

There is a lack of technical and financial support from the Government. Is NSD an island of privilege? The emergent of satellite television might hamper the growth of theatre in India.

However Assam is the only place where people witnessed a shift from films to theatre. It is famous for its successful mobile theatre industry and it continues to thrive on popular demand

from traditional identity to contemporary. NSD invited Kohinoor group to play ‘Titanic’ at the national capital during 2010. The first group of Nataraj Theatre was founded by Achyut Lahkar in 1963 long before the experimental theatre movements in Maharashtra in the mid-70s. Ratan Lahkar had successfully established Kohinoor Theatre to a new height of its glory. Adil Hussaon, the English Vinglish actor has originally been from Hangul Theatre, now currently working for mainstream Bollywood. Since then every household travel together with theatres where film industry failed miserably in Assam.

The ongoing 8th Theatre Olympics is the largest theatre festival of the world, being hosted for the first time in India at New Delhi on 17 Feb. There are artistes from 30 countries performed across 17 cities organised by National School of Drama under the aegis of Ministry of Culture. Three cities from NE region Guwahati, Imphal and Agartala is also a part of this mega festival besides Mumbai will conclude at the Gateway of India on

April 8. It has significance by showcasing multi-lingual plays theatre works and promotes performing arts thus re-establish the feeling, glory of global-brotherhood across the world. The Theatre Olympics was established in 1993 in Delphi, Greece, on the initiative of the famous Greek Theatre Director Theodoros Terzopoulos. Ever since Greece, Japan, Russia, Turkey, South Korea, China and Poland had successfully hosted theatre Olympics. The theme of 8th Theatre Olympics is “Flag of Friendship”.

Hope it shall endeavour to bring the world together from demon of violence and terrorism.

The noted theatre personality from Manipur Padma Shri H Kanhailal referred Assam and Tripura a place for a lot of potential in this field. Ten plays from Assam, five from Manipur and Tripura have been included for that festival. Dulal Roy’s “Shri Ram Bijoy” at Theatre Olympics, is one of those whose theatre carried out the mission to popularise amateur theatre as a vibrant form in Assam. received great response at Amar Gaon, Tangla. CNNIBN real hero award winner Pabitra is now busy working with Theatre Olympics at Bhubaneswar for designing sets, stage, mask, make-up and costume. Socio cultural organization ‘Dapon’ – ‘The Mirror’ has given a new platform to dwarf ’s lives and could bring back smiles to the face of these vertically challenged people. His play “Kino Kou” has been invited at Theatre Olympics New Delhi. Another Sukracharjya Rabha, the man behind the theatre festival at Goalpara under the Sal tree (forest turn into playhouse) has united the villages of Assam. His “Rather Rashi” is a part of plays for under way event.

The 51-day theatre extravaganza will glimpse 450 shows including 65 shows by international artistes. The 10th century re-flowering tradition of Sanskrit drama at Kuttiyattam, Kerela still survived today. AnkiaBhaona is truly attributed to medieval social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva and it is still prevalent in Assam.

All these are to be preserved towards re-engineering of theatre industry to survive from usurping of digital media. Stages are set now.

It’s time for Indian theatre to boost it desperately.

AGRA, APRIL 7 (IANS): Large scale damage to standing wheat crop has been caused by hailstorm, preceded by high velocity dust storm in Agra district in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

Farmers in Fatehpur Sikri area were badly hit as their wheat crop went flat with a heavy shower of hail on Friday.

People were stranded for two hours, as the gusty wind made movement risky and difficult. Agra district authorities were flooded with complaints and requests for help.

Hundreds of trees were uprooted. Power supply was disrupted.

The r ural areas in Mathura, Firozabad have reported extensive damage.

NEW DELHI/SHIMLA, APR 7 (IANS): A Special Investigation Team of Delhi Police has arrested a teacher of a private school, a clerk and a support staff from Himachal Pradesh on charges of leaking the CBSE Class 12 Economics paper, an officer said on Saturday.

The SIT found out that the Economics paper was leaked in handwritten format two days prior to the exam held on March 26, a Delhi Police official said.

Police in Himachal identified the teacher as Rakesh Kumar, of the DAV Centenary Public School in Una. The other two were also taken into custody and taken to the national capital by the police.

“The SIT has interrogated over 70 people, including ‘WhatsApp’

The only area where sentiment is in the optimistic zone is in spending on essential and non-essential items. However, here too people are less positive than they were a year ago.

The bimonthly RBI consumer confidence survey has two components — the current situation index (CSI) and the future expectations index (FEI).

Mumbai, Apr 7 (Agencies): Foreign investors are now free to enhance their total exposure in India’s government bonds by half a percentage point during the current fiscal (FY19) and by another half a percentage point during FY20.

On Friday, the RBI, however, said that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) will now be allowed to invest up to 5.5% of outstanding stock of government securities (G-secs) in 2018-19 and 6% of outstanding stock of securities in 2019-20.

The RBI said that ploughing-back of interest income from G-secs in the same instrument that had no limits will now be included within the overall G-sec limits for FY19 and FY20. The central bank also set a 9% limit for FPI

Globally, gold rose 0.54 per cent to USD 1,333.40 an ounce in New York in yesterday’s trade.

New Delhi, Apr 7 (PTI): Reliance Jio’s disruptive entry in September 2016 led to $ 10 billion in annual savings for consumers and will expand India’s per capita GDP by about 5.65 %, says a report.

Jio has made data accessible and affordable, with average prices per GB dropping to ₹10 from ₹152, bringing the internet within the reach of a larger proportion.

Such a drastic reduction in data prices has also allowed newer segments of society to use and experience it for the first time.

“As per our calculations, even the most conservative estimate shows that due to Jio’s entry, the annual financial savings to the consumers would be to the tune of $ 10 billion,” said the report by Institute for Competitiveness(IFC).

Through widespread network effects, Jio’s entry would boost India’s GDP by about 5.65 %, if everything else in the economy remains constant.

Israel kills nine in border clashes

Among those killed on Friday was Yasser Murtaja, 30, a photographer with the Gaza-based Ain Media agency, who died from his wounds after being shot, the health ministry said.

Murtaja’s company confirmed his death, with witnesses saying he was close to the front of the protests in southern Gaza when he was hit.

An AFP picture taken after he was wounded showed Murtaja wearing a press vest as he received treatment.

His brother Motazem, also a journalist, said he was next to him when he

was shot. “The target was very clearly journalists,” he said.

Israel’s army declined to comment, saying it was reviewing the incident.

Murtaja’s body was taken from the hospital to his home in Gaza City Saturday morning, with dozens of journalists following, many fighting back tears.

It was wrapped in a Palestinian flag, with a press flak jacket placed on his stomach.

Ex-Brazil Prez ignores deadline to surrender BRASILIA, APR 7 (IANS): Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has ignored a deadline to surrender to the Federal Police and begin serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption, the media reported.

An arrest warrant required Lula, 72, to surrender to police by 5 p.m. on Friday in the southern city of Curitiba, reports CNN. Instead, he remains at the headquarters of Brazil’s Metalworkers union in the city of Sao Bernardo do Campo in Sao Paulo state.

Poisoned Russian agent recovering, says hospital LO N D O N, A P R 7 (AGENCIES): Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal is no longer in a critical condition and his health is improving rapidly, more than a month after he was poisoned with a nerve agent in England, the hospital treating him said on Friday.

Skripal, 66, who as a colonel in Russian military intelligence betrayed dozens of agents to Britain’s foreign spy service, was found slumped unconscious on a bench in the city of Salisbury along with his daughter Yulia on March 4.

Britain blamed Russia for the poisoning, the first known offensive use of such a nerve agent on European soil since World War Two. Moscow denied any involvement and suggested Britain had carried out the attack to stoke anti-Russian hysteria.

After weeks of no reported change in his condition, the hospital confirmed that Skripal, who had been treated under heavy sedation, was now making fast progress.

Hasina seeks UN help for Rohingya’s return

Japan activates first marines since WW2 to bolster defenses against China

DHAKA, APR 7 (IANS): Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought the help of UN to implement the Bangladesh-Myanmar agreement on the return of hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas displaced from the Rakhine state.

Hasina spoke with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the issue over phone on Friday night and her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the UN chief praised Bangladesh for sheltering the Rohingya refugees, bdnews24.com reported on Saturday.

The Bangladeshi leader invited Guterres to Bangladesh to see first-hand the plights of the over one million refugees from Myanmar. Around 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have joined nearly 400,000 refugees in Bangladesh since August 25 when the Myanmar forces launched a crackdown dubbed “ethnic cleansing” by the UN. Following international pressure and condemnation, the Myanmar government agreed to take back the recently arrived Rohingyas and signed a deal with Bangladesh on the issue earlier this year, but the repatriation has not started yet, the daily said.

SASEBO/TOKYO, APR 7 (AGENCIES): Japan on Saturday activated its first marine unit since World War Two trained to counter invaders occupying Japanese islands along the edge of the East China Sea that Tokyo fears are vulnerable to attack by China, reports Reuters.

In a ceremony held at a military base near Sasebo on the southwest island of Kyushu, about 1,500 members of the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade (ARDB) wearing camouflage lined up outside amid cold, windy weather.

“Given the increasingly difficult defense and security situation surrounding Japan, defense of our islands has become a critical mandate,” Tomohiro Yamamoto, vice defense minister, said in a speech.

The troops conducted a 20-minute mock public exercise recapturing a remote island from invaders.

G A Z A C I T Y, A P R 7 (AGENCIES): Palestinian mourners in the Gaza Strip on Saturday were burying their dead, including a journalist, after Israeli troops killed nine during the latest border clashes in a week of bloodshed, reports AFP. Thousands of protesters approached the border fence around Gaza for a second Friday in a row, burning tyres and hurling stones at Israeli forces, who responded with tear gas and live ammunition.

In addition to the nine dead, at least 491 were wounded by Israeli gunfire, the health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza enclave said.

Israel said there were around 20,000 protesters and that they were seeking to breach the border.

Numbers were down from the previous Friday, when tens of thousands approached the border in demonstrations that saw Israeli forces kill 19 Palestinians, making it the bloodiest day in Gaza since a 2014 war.

No Israelis were injured on either day and the latest deaths have sparked fresh calls for an investigation.

Grammy nominee Raja Kumari eyes Bollywood music

rammy-nominated Indian-American songwriter Raja Kumari, also a rapper, desires her music -- that she uses as a bridge between the East and West -- to reach far and wide.

And so, she wants to get involved in Bollywood as it has a “great impact” on the world.

The California-based artiste with roots in Andhra Pradesh has been performing in India, appearing on reality shows and also teaming up with Indian talent for songs.

What else is she planning to explore in India?

“I want to use my time in India wisely and explore the opportunities and try something new. I want to do more stuff in Hindi films. It (Bollywood) has such a great impact on the entire world. The idea that something I write can reach so many more people, that’s exciting for me as a musician,” Kumari told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The music scene in India is “completely different” from that in the US. “In India everything is Bollywood music. It is the most popular genre. The genre that we are making (in the US) is a new thing here... the independent music.

“In America, there isn’t much opportunity for Indian singers in mainstream music. “We are not competing. We are just participating in the opportunity.

“The show has been shot all over India rather than just in a Mumbai studio. It’s a cool way to show the beauty of our country,” she added.

Without sharing much about the two songs that she worked on, the fan of Indian classical and fusion music said: “I sang in Sanskrit. It was my first time ever. That was a big challenge for me. So, it was awesome.”

She had previously collaborated with notable artistes like Gwen Stefani, Iggy Azalea and Fifth Harmony.

Is she writing for more American or global singers?

“I am working on my own album. I will be releasing it this summer. I have a lot of songs which I have been doing mostly for my album,” said Kumari.

But she doesn’t want to give up songwriting.

“As a songwriter, it is amazing to be able to put other people’s emotions (into a song) and to help them. But as a performer, rapper and singer, there is nothing like being on the stage and connecting with people and getting a chance to share music with the world. I couldn’t let one go for the other,” she said.

The former governor of California was discharged from Cedars-Sinai in L.A. on Friday, April 6. “He’s excited to get home and feels great,” the source tells Us. As previously reported, the Terminator actor, 70, had a pulmonic valve replacement in a planned procedure in Los Angeles on March 29. It was the second time he’d had the surgery — Schwarzenegger initially went under the knife in 1997 to fix the congenital heart defect.

Amidst ongoing filming for “Creed 2” in Philadelphia, Stallone returned to the famous “Rocky steps” outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art to place a commemorative plaque and strike the classic arms-raised pose, reports ew.com.

“This is a dedication of a plaque that was made for the statue 12 years ago, but believe it or not, it had been missed placed (sic),” Stallone, who played the fictional character of boxer Rocky Balboa in “Rocky” movies, wrote in an Instagram post featuring a video of himself and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney at the

he Nightcrawler actor has been cast in the lead role in the Focus Features project, to be based on Kevin Wignall’s novel To Die in Vienna, which will be released by Thomas & Mercer on 14 June (18).

To Die in Vienna follows American surveillance contractor Freddie Makin, who has been watching Jiang Cheng, a Chinese academic in Vienna, Austria for the past year. The plot takes a dark turn when one day an intruder breaks into Freddie’s apartment and tries to kill him, with it soon becoming apparent that he’s seen something that he shouldn’t have seen, but he has no idea what it is, or who is targeting him, or even who’s been employing him.

Gold Coast, Apr 7 (PTI): Undeterred by niggles and lack of proper physiotherapic care, Indian weightlifters delivered two more gold medals for the country Saturday, while shuttlers and boxers remained unbeaten to make up for the hockey team’s sloppy draw against Pakistan on day 3 of the 21st Commonwealth Games.

India now have four gold, a silver and a bronze in the event, leaving them fourth on the overall tally.

Hosts Australia top the charts with a whopping 57 medals - 20 gold, 17 silver and 20 bronze.

India’s two gold medals Saturday came through Sathish Sivalingam (77kg) and Venkat Rahul Ragala (85kg), both of whom

were not 100 per cent fit owing to respective thigh and knee injuries but still managed to keep ahead of the competition.

The 25-year-old Sathish, the defending champion, lifted a total of 317kg (114kg+173kg) and was so ahead of competition that he forfeited his final clean and jerk lift.

“I had no hopes of winning a medal after I injured my thighs during the national championships while attempting 194kg in clean and jerk. It’s a quadriceps problem, even now I am competing at less than ideal fitness but I am glad that was enough to get me a gold,” Sathish said.

Kohima, Apr 7 (NPN): The six-day football referees clinic, organised by Kohima Town Club (KTC), got underway Saturday at Kohima local ground with Nagaland Football Association (NFA) secretary, Neibu Sekhose as the chief guest. The football referees clinic will conclude on April 12.

In his address, Sekhose said that the referees clinic will improve the standard of football referee in the state. While reminding the referees on the need of physical and mental fitness, Sekhose said that referees

also need to possess wit, courage, common sense, punctuality, presence of mind to impose any disciplinary action or sports law.

Encouraging the referee profession, Sekhose said football as an international game has lots of scope both at national and international levels.

Delivering the welcome address, KTC president, Dr. Viketuolie Pienyü said the main objective of the clinic is to improve the standard of football referees in the state.

The launching programme was chaired by Vikholie Yiese and God’s blessing was invoked by

Pelebeinuo Khezhie.

Altogether 23 referees (18 males and 5 females) are taking part in the clinic.

All India Football Federation referee instructor, Joy Chandra and All Manipur Football Association referee instructor, Tarun Kumar are the instructor of the clinic.

During the clinic, various classes including practical training and fitness test preparation, positioning and movement, qualities of a referee discussion, laws, pre-game assessment, recovery, video test, AFC match incident, analysis of video and others will be imparted to the participants.

Davis Cup: India seal World Group Play offs berth Tianjin, Apr 7 (IANS): Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna notched up a hard fought win in the doubles contest before Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran pulled off the must-win rubbers as India advanced to the World Group Play-offs with a 3-2 verdict over China here on Saturday.

The experienced Indian combination were made to sweat by the spirited Chinese pair of Mo Xin Gong and Ze Zhang before claiming a 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) victory.

It was a landmark moment for the 44-year-old Paes as he notched up a record 43rd Davis Cup victory to become the most successful player in the history of the tennis competition.

Paes was tied on 42 wins with Italian great Nicola Pietrangeli for a long time, but the Kolkata born star finally surpassed him with his 43rd victory.

Meanwhile, Ramanathan, lost the opening singles on Friday, came back strongly to beat Di Wu 7-6(4), 6-3.

The win levelled the tie 2-2 after which captain Mahesh Bhupathi fielded left-handed Prajnesh Gunneswaran instead of Sumit Nagal in the tie-deciding fifth rubber against the Chinese teen sensation Yibing Wu. Gunneswaran did not disappoint as he delivered a

6-4, 6-2 win to seal the tie for India in dramatic fashion.

Prajnesh replaced Yuki Bhambri who pulled out due to an abdomen injury.

In the first set, Paes’ service was broken in the 11th game after the two pairs were tied at 5-5.

The Indians got more break opportunities than the hosts but struggled to kill it off.

The Indians broke Gong in the third game for a 2-1 lead and then held on.

In the decider, Paes and Bopanna frittered away a 3-1 lead by losing three games in a row to trail 3-4.

Paes came out to serve at 5-6 and went down 0-30 but the veteran used all his experience to pull off the crucial hold to force another tie-breaker.

In the tie breaker, Paes and Bopanna used all their experience to roll over the lower-ranked Chinese and pull off the triumph.

Earlier, Balipathar Sports Association and SAI, STC Dimapur also won their respective matches through penalty shootouts.

The match between Rainbow Club and Khanglai FC witnessed exciting football with equal display of talent. Both teams failed to make any break-through in the first half and hour of play. But as the match progressed, Rainbow FC took the upper hand when Toshika drew the first blood in the 32nd minute. Samuel doubled the lead before the first half whistle.

After the break, rejuvenated Khanglai boys came back strongly and reduced the margin through Bembem’s strike. Thereafter, they continued to press for equalizer but without much success as Rainbow boys hang on to move into the second round.

Earlier, Balipathar Sports Association beat Eimi United 4-2 via tiebreaker after both teams were locked at 1-1 in the regulated time. The winner of the match between SAI, STC Dimapur and FC Alianza was also decided through penalty shoot-out after both teams failed to score in the regulated time.

In the shoot-out, SAI STC Dimapur won 5-3.

Earlier, on Friday, the tournament was declared open by executive secretary WSBAK, Rev. Dr.

Hevukhu after a dedicatory prayer. Welcome address was delivered by Dimapur District Football Referee Association president, Shiyito Achumi.

The tournament is organized by Dimapur District Football Referee Association with support from like minded people.

Altogether, 30 teams are taking part in the tournament which will continue till April 18.

Meanwhile, the organizer informed the participating teams that every first matches will begin at 12 noon from April 9.
