Biren Singh on Saturday informed that an agreement would be made with Nagaland gover nment to ensure free and secure movement of Manipur vehicles in the state of Nagaland. Singh informed media persons Saturday after he met a delegation of Manipur Truck Owner Welfare Association (MTOWA and United Bus Owners’ Welfare Association (UBOWA) wherein they raised issues of frequent disturbances being faced by vehicles from Manipur while passing through Nagaland. Singh said he would be meeting his counterparts (Nagaland and Assam CM) along with Union home minister in Guwahati soon. EDSSU calls off proposed stir DIMAPUR, APR 1 (NPN): East Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (EDSSU) on Saturday said it has decided to put off its proposed indefinite strike at the directorate of land records and survey in Dimapur, which was scheduled to begin from April 2017. In a press release, EDSSU president, Kanato S Awomi, and general secretary, Ato Achumi, said the decision was taken after receipt of letter from secretary LR&S department requesting to call off the strike as the matter, which could not be responded in time due to pen down strike by services associations, was under serious consideration by the government. EDSSU has, however, served a 10-day deadline on the department to act on their demand starting April 1, 2017. It cautioned that failure on the part of the department would invite immediate indefinite strike at LR&S directorate. The union is demanding cancellation of alleged backdoor appointments of four Land Records & Survey Officer (LRSO) and eight surveyor grade-I under the Land Record and Survey (LR&S) department.

In view of the increasing number of road accidents, he also instructed the commissioner (transport) to take up the road safety measures like marking of zebra crossing, traffic signs in front of schools, road diversions, curves etc. from Sunday itself. State gets `10.41 cr for two abattoirs, 1 food testing lab Spl. Correspondent
NEW DELHI, APR 1 (NPN): Centre has released Rs. 10.41 crore to the state of Nagaland for setting up of two abattoirs (Rs.9.20 crore) and one food testing laboratory (Rs.1.21 crore) since inception of the projects. This was informed by the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply in Rajya Sabha while highlighting the status of ongoing food processing projects in the country and funds released to those projects. The minister informed the house that the government has approved setting up of 42 Mega Food Park projects, 133 Cold Chain projects, 38 Abattoir projects, 101 Food Testing Laboratories and assistance to 7381 food processing industries for technology up-gradation/ establishment/
modernization under major schemes of the Ministry. He also stated that out of the approved projects, eight Mega Food Parks have been made operational, 97 Cold Chain Projects have been completed, seven abattoir projects have been made operational and 61 Food Testing Laboratories have been completed. The minister stated that the regular project-wise monitoring was undertaken at various levels in the Ministry to expedite implementation. It may be noted that the DMC slaughter house which was inaugurated on May 26, 2012 at Burma Camp, Dimapur was the second abattoir in the country and first in the Northeast. This was sanctioned under the 11th 5 year plan project by Centre after the ministry of food processing industry (MoFPI) offered it to the state government in 2006.
EC orders probe after EVM dispenses only BJP slips NEW DELHI, APR 1 (AGENCIES): The Election Commission has ordered a probe into the alleged Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) tampering issue after the Congress party complained that the Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine printed a BJP slip in a trial vote which was casted to the Samajwadi Party by pressing the party’s button ahead of the Ater bypolls in Madhya Pradesh. The leaders from the Congress party have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter alleging the EVMs are faulty and can be tampered with. The trial on the EVMs were being conducted before the Ater bypolls in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress leaders alleged that the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) system generated a slip with the BJP’s lotus symbol when CEO Saleena Singh, who was checking the arrangements, had pressed the button for the Samajwadi Party candidate. The Election Commission has also ordered a probe into the matter. The Congress party leaders have also said that they would approach the

KOHIMA, APR 1 (NPN): State chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu appointed former NLA deputy speaker, Imtikumzuk as parliamentary secretary of Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Saturday afternoon. He was administered oath by the chief minister at CM’s secretariat on Saturday afternoon in the presence of several cabinet ministers and others. With the addition of Imtikumzuk in the jumbo ministry, Dr. Shürhozelie has appointed 25 parliamentary secretaries in the current DAN-III ministry. It may be mentioned that Imtikumzuk resigned as deputy speaker on Friday after he submitted his letter to the NLA speaker.

However, Singh claimed that the machines were not calibrated. “When you have a fully calibrated machine, this cannot happen like this. But they (journalists) misrepresented the facts without trying to understand the whole issue,” said Saleena Singh. In the video, Singh was also heard saying that if the reporters circulate this, they will have to face police detention. Following the video, the poll panel has ordered an inquiry into the matter. “We have sought a detailed report from district election officer and would come up with a response in the evening,” an EC spokesperson said. media in which Singh could be seen surprised after she pressed two different buttons on the EVM but the VVPAT attached to the machine generated wrong receipts. She was also seen laughing on the matter and warning the journalists that they would face police detention if they publish the report. However, the video hasn’t been verified yet. As per the reporters present at the spot, when CEO Saleena Singh pushed the button number 4 on the EVM, which has been given to the Samajwadi Party (SP), the VVPAT machine generated a print out of a slip bearing the BJPs lotus symbol and name of a candidate Satyadev Pachouri. The machine generated Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)’s symbol elephant when button numbers two and three were pushed; the BSP isn’t fighting these polls. Singh has accused “some people” of creating an illusion that only BJP slips are being generated by the VVPAT. Saleena Singh said, “In a dummy voting process or a demo anything can come first. The trail was conducted as this is the first time the Election Commission is using VVPAT in the state. VVPAT is a machine attached to the EVMs that generates a slip with the party symbol for which the voter has voted for. The slip is then dropped in a box. Earlier, the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal had also alleged foul play in the EVMs after a dismal show in Punjab and Goa Assembly Elections 2017. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) submitted a letter to the Election Commission of India and complained about the alleged Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering in Punjab Assembly Elections 2017. He also demanded that the voting for MCD Elections 2017 should be through ballot papers. As per the reports, the party demanded that slips generated by VVPAT machines be matched with papers generated by the EVMs to verify the Punjab assembly election results.
Truckers begin nation-wide indefinite strike KOLKATA/CHENNAI/MUMBA I / B E N G A LU RU, A P R 1 (IANS): Truck owners began an indefinite strike from Saturday to protest mainly against the proposed 50 per cent hike in the third party insurance premium, amid apprehensions that the protest could lead to supply disruption and raise commodity prices in the coming days. In a bid to resolve the standoff, the strikers will meet Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) Chairman on Monday, and take a decision on whether to continue with the agitation based on the discussions with the regulator. “One of the reasons for going on strike is the drastic 50 per cent increase in the third party premium charged for trucks by the insurers. We have a meeting with the IRDAI Chairman on Monday at Hyderabad,” said P.V. Subramani, Vice President, All India Motor Transport Congress-South Zone. The third party premium for automobiles is decided by IRDAI while all other premium rates are decided by the insurers - private and government-owned.
Fleet owners normally go only for third party policies and take care of the damages to vehicles on their own. The South India Motor Transport Association and South Zone Motor Transporters’ Welfare Association (SZMTWA) had gone for the indefinite strike from Thursday and All India Confederation of Goods Vehicles Owners’ Association (ACOGOA) joined the protests from Saturday. “We protest the exhorbitant rise in premium of the third party insurance, which has gone up by 800 percent from 2002 to till date,” ACOGOA’s President Channa Reddy told IANS. On the insurer’s argument about the rising third party accident claims and the compensation paid, Subramani said: “Let them show their numbers in a transparent manner. If the business is loss-making, why is that the insurers are offering discounts on premium that ranges up to 70 per cent in the case of comprehensive policies and up to two per cent in the case third party policies?” Around 22 lakh trucks have stayed off the road in Karnata-
ka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry since Thursday midnight. “Our future course of action will depend on the outcome of the meeting with IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) on Monday in Hyderabad,” said SZMTWA’s General Secretary G.R. Shanmugappa. “The five states and one union territory (in South India) will incur a loss of Rs 5,500 crore per day due to this agitation,” he added. Around 10,000 trucks in Maharashtra have stopped plying to south Indian states in support of the strike. Truck owners are also demanding reinstatement of tariff advisory committee and protesteing against fines proposed in the Motor Vehicles Act amendment. All India Motor Transport Congress’s (AIMTC) President S.K. Mittal said truckers have been demanding category wise real time data from the insurance regulator but this has not been provided so far. According to truckers in West Bengal, the strike has been successful not only in Bengal but also in Odisha, Assam, Tripura and Bihar.

DIMAPUR, APR 1 (NPN): Objecting to the proposed joint survey in between BP 145 and BP 146 along India and Myanmar border at ITC DAN, the Pangsha range citizens of India have appealed to the state chief minister to take up the issue with the responsible authority so as to maintain a conducive peaceful atmosphere between the two nations in the border area. In a joint memorandum to the chief minister through the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO), New Pangsha Council chairman, P Shingnya; Old Pangsha Council chairman, L Thango; DAN council chairman, Lupan; Head GB ITC DAN, Mushou; Head GB New Pangsha, Papi; Head GB Old Pangsha, Pango; Head GB DAN village, Nyukha and Head GB Wonsoi village, Puchong, expressed dismay that the survey team of India and Myanmar had gone to their land to conduct survey work as per the existing
imaginary line. The signatories said this has lead to bifurcation of their land (the only source of their income) and parted to foreign country without the knowledge of the indigenous inhabitants. They pointed out that BP146 has been installed erroneously within their land where 3500 acres of their cultivable land has been compromised to the foreign country for no wrong of the native land owners. In this regard, the signatories demanded that BP146 should be immediately removed and follow the traditional boundary of Pangsha (India) and Kingphu/Woilan, Ponyu (Myanmar) village and realign the existing boundary as per the traditional boundary that would be promptly acceptable. Further, the signatories also appealed to the survey team of both the countries to immediately withdraw from the spot, adding that no activities should be taken up until rectification was made. Correspondent KOHIMA, APR 1 (NPN): A six-day Aoleang Monyu festival – the premier festival of the Konyak community, which celebrates the arrival of spring and prays for a good upcoming harvest – began on Saturday with splendour and gaiety. Aoleang Monyu festival was celebrated at The Heritage Kisama on Saturday with minister for PHED, Chotisuh Sazo as the chief guest. In his address, Sazo stressed on maintaining and
preserving the good values practised by the ancestors and said that festivals were celebrated keeping up with the culture and traditions of each tribe. He said the festivals celebrate the values practiced by the ancestors such as, respect for elders and women, work values and abiding traditional and customary laws. Sazo, however, lamented that in the present day people have “diverted” themselves from all the good practices. The minister called upon the people to maintain the “true values” of the festi-
Wokha Village bans hunting, trapping
DIMAPUR: In a major step towards preserving the environment, the Wokha Village Council (WVC) has resolved to strictly ban hunting and trapping, starting April 1, 2017, and also prohibited taking away of any forest medicinal products such as flora and fauna from Mt. Tiyi Reserved Forest. Informing this in a press note, WVC chairman S. Yanphamo Tungoe and secretary Zujanbemo Lotha, cautioned that anyone found violating the order would invite seizure of their materials and penalized, and action would be taken as per its Village rules and regulation. WVC also said it has resolved to give full cooperation and support to the government agencies, administration and the contractor while implementing and executing the construction work of NH 61 and Wokha - Merapani road within its jurisdiction to bring better quality workmanship.

Sazo also appealed the Naga Political Groups to unite so as to arrive at an “honourable” solution to Naga political issue. Pointing out that Konyaks inhabit a fertile land, Thong said the region can become the “rice bowl of Nagaland”. He also

L John, delivered festival greetings. The festival witnessed cultural special and cultural presentations from Angam Khong, Chen Wankon, Tobu Wankon, KNSK/ Tangshem Lan, Wakching Wankon and Mon Wankon. Earlier, the chief guest also erected a bamboo at the festival site as a symbol of

MOPONG: Parliamentary secretary for Youth Resource and Sports, Khekaho Assumi Aoleang festival celebration at Mopong EAC headquarters on Saturday held under the theme “Social and Cultural Awakening”. In his address, Khekaho said besides celebrating Aoleang festival which celebrates the culture and traditions and prays for good harvest for the year, there was a need to retrospect and see how far the community has come in terms of development and education.
Encouraging youth to venture out into private sectors, Khekaho said they should opt for vocational trainings and become entrepreneurs instead of waiting for government jobs which was already saturated. He also said youth should help the government for good governance by being a pressure group and ensuring the schools functions well, hospitals were maintained and developmental works were properly implemented. Cultural presentation was one of the highlights of Aoleang festival.

The medical camp was conducted by in-charge of District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) District Hospital D im a p ur ( D HD ) , D r. Imlitemsu Ozukum and his team of doctors and nurses. I n t h e c a m p, D r. Imlitemsu exhorted the parents and the differently abled people and encouraged them to avail rehab as it could help PWDs to become independent. Assam, Meghalaya CMs discuss border problems

G u waha t i / S h i llo n g, A p r 1 : Meghalaya and Assam on Saturday ordered Chief Secretaries of both states to re-start their dialogue process to resolve the vexed inter-state boundary disputes between the two states. The decision was taken at a Chief Minister-level meet between Sarbananda Sonowal and Mukul Sangma at the Brahmaputra State Guest House in Assam’s main city Guwahati. “The chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya have been asked to continue the dialogue on the 12 areas of difference,” Sonowal told journalists after the meeting. “We have discussed a lot of issues, and it was fruitful. The chief secretaries will discuss on the boundary dispute. We have also decided to work together for our mutual growth,” he said. The 12 areas of difference, include Upper Tarabari, Gizang reserve forest, Hahim, Langpih, Borduar, Boklapara, Nong-
wah-Matamur, KhanaparaPilangkata, Deshdemoreah, Khanduli-Psiar area, Ratacherra and Blocks I and II. The total area of difference is 2,765.14 square km, of which Blocks I and II cover 1,583.42 square km. Saturday’s meeting was the first official meeting between the two Chief Ministers after Sonowal assumed office in Assam in May last year. Sangma last held discussions with then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on June 5, 2010 following the incident where four Khasi villagers were killed during a firing by Assam police personnel at Langpih on May 14, 2010. “We had a fruitful dialogue and as a follow up of discussions held earlier, more discussions will be held so that both the states can resolve the long pending issue mutually which will be acceptable to both the states,” the Meghalaya Chief Minister said. Moreover, he said that issues related to disputes will be further discussed at the level of the chief secretaries.
Asked on Meghalaya Assembly resolution asking the Centre to constitute a Boundary Commission to resolve the inter-state boundary imbroglio, Sangma said, “They (Assam) have made their stand but we will discuss mutually.” In March 2011, the Meghalaya Assembly had passed a resolution to urge the Centre to constitute a Boundary Commission to re-examine and redefine the inter-state boundary between the two states. The Assam Assembly adopted another resolution negating the Meghalaya resolution. Meanwhile, both the Chief Ministers has decided to conduct joint operations along the inter-state boundary to flush out militants along the inter-state boundary to ensure peace and tranquillity. “We have also decided to work together to restore the environment and whoever is doing illegal activities like hill cutting should stop, and action will be taken jointly on this issue,” Sonowal said.

Beijing, Apr 1 (PTI): China on Saturday asked India to exercise restraint on its plan to link the strategic border district of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh with a railway network while adding that any unilateral action might complicate the unresolved border issue. “We hope that the Indian side can exercise caution, show restraint and refrain from unilateral actions that might further complicate the question so as to create a sound condition for enhancing mutual trust between China and India and promoting proper resolution of the boundary question,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. “China’s position on eastern section of the China-India boundary
is consistent and clear. At present, the two sides are working to resolve the territorial dispute through negotiation and consultation,” the ministry told PTI in a written reply following a query about reports that India was exploring possibilities to link Tawang with a railway network. China has in recent days upped its rhetoric on claims to Arunachal Pradesh, which it says is Southern Tibet, and even warned India of “serious damage” to ties if New Delhi allows Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to visit the state next week. The ministry yesterday warned New Delhi that the visit of the Dalai Lama, the highest figure in Tibetan Buddhism, will “come down to India to make a choice”.
Tawang, which happens to be the birthplace in 1683 of the sixth Dalai Lama, is at the centre of Tibetan Buddhism and a friction point between India and China relations. India and China are in discussion to resolve their border dispute that covers the 3,488-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC). While Beijing claims Arunachal as part of Southern Tibet, India asserts that the dispute also covers the ‘Aksai Chin’ area, which was occupied by China during the 1962 war. President Dipankar Kumar Nath warned that the people of the state would never compromise on their decades- long demand for detection and deportation of infiltrators who illegally migrated to the state from Bangladesh after March 25, 1971, the deadline set by the historic Assam Accord in 1985. Demanding implementation of the Assam Accord, AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi claimed that “the conspiracy to dump Hindu migrants from Bangladesh in Assam would not be allowed. “The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is in conflict with the Assam Accord which states that illegal migrants from Bangladesh after March 25, 1971 would be deported”.

During God's visitation of Nagaland by outpouring of the Holy Spirit in 1976 Spiritual Revival, multitude of people revived. A few revived and dedicated persons mostly Government servants including some married couples formed a prayer and preaching group in Dimapur. A group about 25 started counseling and preaching with prayer within and outside of Dimapur winning souls to God, who have sworn before God to serve Him till death. The members of the group called it, "Bethel Fellowship" which was revealed by the Spirit of God in 1977. The members are continuously involved in God's ministry and we have celebrated the Silver Jubilee in 2002. The members of the fellowship in its general meeting on 26 th March, 2017, discussed and unanimously resolved to change partially and declare that the nomenclature of the fellowship be "Bethel Gospel Ministry, Dimapur, Nagaland". ‘Will hang those who kill cows,’ says Chhattisgarh CM BASTAR, APR 1 (AGENCIES): A day after the Gujarat assembly cleared an amended law that gives life term for cow slaughter, Chhattisgarh’s chief minister Raman Singh has gone a step further by saying “those who kill cows will be hanged”. “Have you ever heard of such a thing in Chhattisgarh in the past 15 years... those who kill cows will be hanged,” Singh retorted when asked by a reporter in Bastar whether a strict law will be framed against cow slaughter in the state. The chief minister’s statement comes in the backdrop of the recent crackdown against slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh by the state government led by CM Yogi Adityanath. Gujarat, where elections will be held later this year, amended the state’s Animal Preservation Bill to entail a maximum punishment of life imprisonment for cow slaughter and 10 years for transporting cows. In the current law, which was amended in 2011, the maximum jail term for cow slaughter was seven years. The new law

The passage of the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2017 came nearly eight months after seven Dalits were beaten by self-styled cow vigilantes for alleged cow slaughter in Una. Over 400 devotees from Pak arrive at Ajmer shrine AJMER, APR 1 (PTI): A delegation of over 400 devotees from Pakistan today arrived at the shrine of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti here to pay their homage to the Sufi saint. The devotees, accompanied by the officials of the Pakistani Embassy, reached Ajmer this morning by a special train to attend the 805th ‘Urs’ (death anniversary) of the saint. They will offer ‘chaadar’ (sacred cloth) at the shrine on behalf of the Pakistan government. The administration has made special security arrangements in the wake of the visit by devotees from the neighbouring country, District Magistrate Gaurav Goyal said. They will stay put at the Central Girls
School here, he said. The devotees will leave Ajmer for Pakistan on April 8. ‘Chaadar’ offered on PM’s behalf at Chishti’s dargah. A ‘chaadar’ was on Saturday offered at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti here on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said the service of the Sufi saint to humanity will continue to inspire generations. Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi offered the ‘chaadar’ (shawl) on behalf of the PM and read out his message in which Modi greeted the followers of the saint in India and abroad on the occasion of the 805th annual Urs.
Principal shot dead in school Bhagalpur, Apr 1 (PTI): Unidentified assailants today shot dead the principal of a school at Kamlakund village of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, police said. Shambhu Mandal, principal of a government-run secondary school, died on the spot when assailants fired at him while he was entering the school. Police suspected that the killing might be an outcome of personal enemity. The locals blocked road and staged protest. The District Primary Schools Teachers Association has sought arrest of killers within 24 hours failing which they would stop teaching work.
B H O PA L , A P R 1 (AGENCIES): Just about a week after UP CM Yogi Adityanath announced an anti-Romeo squad, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a similar crackdown on sexual predators on Friday, and even went a step further, saying his government will bring about a legislation to hang rapists. Along with his repeated preaching against alcoholism and shutting down of liquor shops along the Narmada, a tough stance against sex crimes will earn him the goodwill of women — a crucial factor ahead of the 2018 assembly election. The CM is acutely aware that Madhya Pradesh has the shameful tag of being the rape capital of the country with 4,391 cases reported in 2015. After taking the salute at Police Training Academy in Bhouri on the outskirts of Bhopal, he said: “The first condition for the development of the state and the country is a good law-and-order system and this is the major responsibility of police... Hum Romeos ke against ek abhiyaan chalayenge (We will run a campaign against Romeos).”
3 detained in Ghaziabad child rape, murder case Ghaziabad, Apr 1 (IANS): Three persons have been detained here in the alleged rape and murder case of a five-year-old girl, police said on Saturday. Ghaziabad SSP Deepak Kumar said the father and brother of the accused Afroz and one Alam have been detained. A team of police has been sent to Khagaria in Bihar to where Afroz belongs. “We hope to nab him shortly,” said the SSP. Tension prevailed in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad after the body of a five-year-old girl was found on Friday midnight. The residents said she was raped and killed, allegedly by a man from a different community -- further worsening the situation. The girl, a priest’s
daughter, was missing since Thursday. Police recovered her body from a half-constructed house. The residents said she was raped and murdered, allegedly by Afroz, a mason. The locals also alleged that though the girl was missing since Thursday, police did not swing into action and were apathetic towards the issue. Police, however, have not confirmed the rape allegation. “We have registered the case and raids are being conducted to nab the culprit. The allegation of rape could only be confirmed after the post-mortem report,” said SP City Salman Taj Patil. “But the crime is grave and we will arrest the culprit at the earliest,” he added.
Bihar seals seven illegal slaughterhouses Patna, Apr 1 (IANS): A week after opposition BJP demanded that illegal slaughterhouses flourishing in Bihar should be closed, seven of them were sealed in Rohtas district on Saturday, officials said. The district administration bordering Uttar Pradesh, sealed the illegal slaughterhouses running for years, following clearance of action against them from the top brass in Patna, an official said. The state government is also likely to take further action against illegal slaughterhouses in coming days in line with the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, the official said. District officials in Rohtas said action against the slaughterhouses was taken after a directive from the Patna High Court that they be sealed within six weeks. The licenses of these slaughterhouses expired on Friday. Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar had raised the issue of illegal slaughterhouses in the state assembly last week demanding their immediate closure in Bihar. He also said that licences of all slaughterhouses should be cancelled adding that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was keen on making Bihar beef-free to ensure protection of cows.

Slaughter of buffaloes for meat is, however, allowed in the state. Buffalo meat trade in the state has been badly hit by the clampdown on illegal abattoirs.

NEW DELHI, APR 1 (AGENCIES): The Election Commission has sought a report from the district electoral officer on media reports alleging an EVM malfunction during a trial at Bhind in Madhya Pradesh. The reports stated that the paper trail machine linked to one EVM dispensed slips showing only the BJP symbol. The mock-test was conducted in the presence of several local journalists. After the discrepancy was detected, it was alleged that the Chief Electoral Officer threatened to get them detained by the police if they reported it. The development comes days after several political parties had alleged that the EVMs were tampered with in Uttar Pradesh Assembly election and also in Punjab. A petition in this regard has also been moved in the Supreme Court. However, the Election Commission has defended use of EVMs asserting that it is impossible to hack the machines given the technology used and administrative procedures ensuring their secure handling.

New Delhi, Apr 1 (IANS): The central government has released an amount of Rs 2,014.45 crore as financial assistance to Tamil Nadu affected by drought and cyclonic storm, an official said on Saturday. Home Minister Rajnath Singh had chaired a High Level Committee (HLC) meeting on March 23 to discuss the issue of assistance. The aid, released on Friday, includes Rs 1,748.28 crore for drought (Kharif), Rs 264.11 crore for cyclonic storm ‘Vardha’ and Rs 2.06 crore under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme, according to a release. The Tamil Nadu government had submitted a memorandum seeking central assistance in the wake of drought and cyclonic storm ‘Vardha’ in the state.

Bhubaneswar, Apr 1 (IANS): Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday formally launched the BS-IV grade fuel distribution across the country on the occasion of Utkala Dibasa here. In a bid to provide a clean environment, the minister launched distribution of the BS-IV grade fuel in 13 cities through video conferencing here. Pradhan termed the initiative as the beginning of a new era to reduce environment pollution. “Today we begin a new era of clean transportation fuels that will benefit 1.25 billion citizens of our country by substantially reducing pollution levels in our cities,” the minister said. While BS-IV grade fuels have been introduced from April 1, the BS-VI standard fuels have been targeted to be launched from 2020. “Migration to BS-IV fuels shows India’s resolve under the leadership of the Prime Minister to cut down emissions in a voluntary commit-
ment to @COP21,” Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted. Speaking on the ongoing tussle with the Odisha government over Indian Oil Corporation Ltd ’s refinery project at Paradeep, Pradhan said the Centre is ready for a fresh dialogue to break the deadlock between the Odisha government and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL). The state government has denied providing fiscal incentives to the company’s 15 million-tonne crude oil refinery at Paradeep in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. “The present government at the Centre is not responsible for the delay in setting up of the project. The expansion of the refinery’s capacity from nine million tonnes to 15 million tonnes is good for the people of the state. If the Odisha government feels that there should be more financial support to minimise the state’s burden, we are ready for fresh negotiations,” said Pradhan.
Kashmir Tulip Garden opens for visitors Srinagar, Apr 1 (IANS): One of the major tourist attractions of Kashmir Valley and Asias largest Tulip Garden was opened for visitors on Saturday. Located in the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountains on the banks of the Dal Lake and spread over 75 acres of picturesque land the Tulip Garden was opened ahead of schedule this year. “For the first time, 48 varieties of tulips have come to bloom in the garden where we have sown 1.5 million bulbs of the flower this year, those who love nature and tulips, no longer need to go to Holland or elsewhere,” said Farooq Ahmad Shah, Secretary State Tourism Department. “Kashmir is in fact more beautiful than we have been told. It is much more beautiful than what we see on television or in the movies,” Bagishree, 28, a tourist from Maharashtra said.
L U C K N OW, A P R 1 (AGENCIES): Samajwadi Party patriarch on Saturday launched a scathing attack on his son and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav saying that the latter “humiliated and betrayed him”. Mulayam further said that Akhilesh doesn’t pay him the due respect. “When he (Akhilesh) doesn’t respect his father (Mulayam), how will people respect him?” Mulayam asked. “While the people of UP voted for me in 2012, I chose to make Akhilesh the chief minister, but he humiliated me thereafter,” he said, adding that he has “never been insulted so much” in his life. The senior Yadav also pointed out that, unlike him, no one in the history of India named their son the chief minister despite still being active in politics. Mulayam also quoted a statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kannauj during the state assembly elections that how can a man who has insulted his father be loyal to the people of the state. Endorsing the PM’s views, Mulayam said, “Ye sahi hai
ki jo baap ka nahin hua, wo kisi ka nahin ho sakta. “ In Mainpuri to inaugurate a hotel, the former Union defence minister claimed that it was this statement of Modi that affected the voters and led to the massive defeat of the Samajwadi Party. “But I did not say anything to anyone as my own blood was out against me,” the three-time Uttar Pradesh chief minister added and lamented that it was a tragedy that his son joined hands with the Congress, a party which led “murderous at-

Indian syndrome
ndians take pride in reminding themselves of being the descendants of oldest civilisation, oldest religions and respecter of all faiths and birthplace of world renowned sages but contemporary Indian society has been shamed by the medieval mindset that has reared its ugly head with vengeance. Of all that has been witnessed in the past few decades, has been racism against other communities which have also resulted in tragic consequences. It is being generally perceived that north Indians are most prejudiced. Though it may not be wholly true, yet continued racism against north east people in Delhi despite stringent law being enforced by the Modi-led government, hasn’t dampened racism. According to union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju, there were as many as 704 cases of crimes against people of north east registered in Delhi for the last three years. As per the figure cited by the MoS home in the Lok Sabha, there were 282 cases registered in 2014 and 258 offenders arrested. In 2015, there were 277 cases registered of which 174 were arrested. In 2016 there were 145 crimes registered till October 31, 2016 in which 84 offenders were arrested. In an attempt at securing camaraderie, safety, and out of economic compulsions, Northeasterners living in Delhi have gravitated to ghettoisation, primarily in South and North Delhi areas like Munirka, Kotla Mubarakpur, Satya Niketan, Chirag Dilli and Outram Lines. In nearby Haryana, in Gurgaon there were 23 cases registered during the period in which 21 people were arrested. In Karnataka, supposed to be the most tolerant of states, there were 22 cases registered for crimes against the people of north east and in which 32 persons were arrested. The focus on Delhi, the national capital has turned sharper with rising hate crimes against black Africans. These are rooted in a mixture of cast prejudices, ignorance and centuries-old discriminatory practices, when communities confined themselves within their narrow communities by placing taboos on eating and fraternising where the upper castes were not allowed to marry lower caste or even be sharing the same table. While prejudice and racist attacks on other communities is as rampant, yet when this took an international form, it has placed India on a very sticky wicket. There have been spates of attacks on black Africans in Delhi and other parts of India but the incidents in the national capital has aroused global concern. Indians today are dubbed as racists and cannot expect better treatment abroad. A Congolese national was beaten to death near Vasant Kunj because of the color of his skin while going to meet with four of his friends. In another incident, two black African women were injured and12 others injured in South Delhi after they were attacked by locals who objected to their “free lifestyle”. These attacks stem of pure racial hatred which was amplified in January 2014 by then AAP legislator Somnath Bharti, who led a mod to attack African women for alleged drug use. Medical tests at AIIMS however proved negative but it did not bring healing to the wounds inflicted on the black African community in Delhi. The wounds of racism has damaged India’s image and unless something is done to crackdown on such crimes with severity, it could make Indians abroad vulnerable.

It is Christ…who also makes intercession for us….the Spirit…makes intercession for the saints… —Romans 8:34, 27 Do we need any more arguments than these to become intercessors– that Christ “always lives to make intercession” (Hebrews 7:25), and that the Holy Spirit “makes intercession for the saints”? Are we living in such a relationship with others that we do the work of intercession as a result of being the children of God who are taught by His Spirit? We should take a look at our current circumstances. Do crises which affect us or others in our home, business, country, or elsewhere, seem to be crushing in on us? Are we being pushed out of the presence of God and left with no time for worship? If so, we must put a stop to such distractions and get into such a living relationship with God that our relationship with others is maintained through the work of intercession, where God works His miracles. Beware of getting ahead of God by your very desire to do His will. We run ahead of Him in a thousand and one activities, becoming so burdened with people and problems that we don’t worship God, and we fail to intercede. If a burden and its resulting pressure come upon us while we are not in an attitude of worship, it will only produce a hardness toward God and despair in our own souls. God continually introduces us to people in whom we have no interest, and unless we are worshiping God the natural tendency is to be heartless toward them. We give them a quick verse of Scripture, like jabbing them with a spear, or leave them with a hurried, uncaring word of counsel before we go. A heartless Christian must be a terrible grief to our Lord. Are our lives in the proper place so that we may participate in the intercession of our Lord and the Holy Spirit?

Silver lining in Autism: A parent perspective “O n some days the only predictable thing about autism is the unpredictability; the only consistent attributethe inconsistency. The child who lives with autism may look ‘normal’ but his behaviour can be perplexing and downright difficult” -Ellen Notbohm Looking forward to meeting a family one evening who had a daughter much the same age as my eldest son and who was also affected with autism, we had much to share with each other even though it was the first time we met. Curiously I watched her daughter as she was brought in because even though both of them had the same condition they could not be more different in so many ways. Whereas my son was hyperactive and restless and tantrum almost every day, my new friend’s daughter was quiet and prefer to be in her own world rocking herself. That night she gave me a book about a mother’s journey with her autistic son and how he recovered completely. I read throughout that entire night, taking notes and geared myself up to do exactly what that mother did – stop giving cow milk and wheat products, ordered some vitamin supplements from America which claimed to have made the son in the book start speaking and medicines to help him sleep (as putting him to sleep every night was a nightmare -2-3 hrs of howling, kicking, pulling my hair, hurting himself, scratching me till he feels so tired and eventually dozes off). And woe to anyone or anything that interrupts his sleep, because the same process of howling and crying will start all over again. Toilet training was another difficult area which we had to deal with for a long time and we always stock up on diapers (like stocking up rice in case of famine). Diapers were done away with at last when he became 10 as he started indicating his toilet needs. Feeding time, clipping his nails, cutting his hair, frequent indigestions were some other daily challenges that we

went through. My son was diagnosed as affected with autism at the age of 2 and ½ years, but nothing had prepared me for such a challenging and different journey- not even my medical years . Well, to cut the story short, none of these quick fix remedies helped and it only ended up with me feeling exhausted and short temper most of the time as I desperately tried to help my son recover and start talking. (like stocking up rice in case of famine). The silver lining in the dark clouds came when we found out that our son enjoyed going to a play school and was happy to be around other children. This came as a surprise cause earlier he disliked strangers, strange and public places, hated being touched/cuddled for long (even by his own mother-me) so much so that we as his parents also became a recluse confined to the four walls of our home most of the time. My husband finally got a chance to take him for a 3 month Parent and child training program held in Action for Autism centre, Delhi. My son returned a more well behaved child with an equally if not, more excited father who came back with a determination to open up a school for my son and other children like him since he saw that he was able to learn when taught appropriately and in the right method. Today, my son is 12 and ½ years old, half a foot taller than me and loves to meet and shake hands with familiar people and give tight hugs to his parents and loved ones and is happy most of the time. He is still non verbal except for an occasional Dad or Mom but he understands most of what we say to him and he can gesture or point to his needs. He has two younger brothers who do not spare him when he tantrums unnecessarily, makes him fight for his share, but is also sensitive to a lot of his needs and keeps an eye on him when I am busy elsewhere for which I am very thankful. A lot of support and prayers from our families, friends, church leaders
and prayer warriors have being our crutch when the going was tough. More, over I as a mother can proudly say that my dear husband has being equally hands on in taking care of our son giving me the much needed rest time and again. Looking at him from the eyes of the world he has still achieved very little- diagnosed as profound autism with a mental age of a little more than 2 two years back from CMC, Vellore. But for us we are proud parents, proud not because we have achieved something but because God in His infinite wisdom gave us a unique opportunity to become parents of a special child. We are indeed thankful to God for including us in His plan as through our son we could open up an Inclusive school for other special need children and share His blessings with them. Today, I just want to encourage those parents whose children may be an under achiever in the eyes of the world, who may not look and act normal like other children –our Heavenly Father has a plan for them too, and if we stop trying too hard and start thanking God for their lives and ask God to include you in the plan that He has for your child, you will see and experience the joy and peace that only He can give in this difficult journey. Now in our state we have professionals like Special Educators, Clinical Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Occupational and PhysioTherapists, Music Therapist whom we can seek help to guide us help our loved ones. I say guide, because in the end the parents are the child’s best teacher as no one knows your child better than you. As we celebrate World Autism Awareness Day today, may each of us become more aware of such children’s needs and be bold enough to take a step forward to embrace and accept the child for who he or she is and also work to try and help to better the child’s life. An address to my fellow Sumis
I
start by extending my personal and sincerest apologies to Dr. Aotemsu and Mr. Pothita for the abuse and trauma; verbal, physical and psychological, that they suffered in the past few days at the hands of my tribesmen, the Sumis. I offer no excuses on behalf of any of the perpetrators of the heinous acts; and hope that both matters will be resolved to their satisfaction. Having said that, we Sumis must realise that we are not stronger, braver or more courageous than any other people in the world; especially our fellow Naga Tribesmen. The only thing that sets us apart is our recklessness. Why do you think that every time any encounter between our Underground Factions takes place, in 9 times out of 10, the dead are Sumis? It is not because we are braver, but because we are more reckless. We have been conditioned to believe that any form of caution is cowardice. Our traits and behaviours depend on a combination of our genes and the environment we come from. We Sumis share the same basic genes of any other human being in the world; it is our environment that differs from our fellow Nagas and breeds our need to show off our Machismo and leads to our recklessness. I do not know to what extent this anecdote is true, but a senior once narrated a story of how we Sumis came to pay dowry for our brides. It seems that Sumis always faced a shortage of wives in ancient days. Once, a Sumi approached the Lothas of a neighbouring village to ask for a bride; when the Lothas agreed and wed him to one of their village lasses, the Sumi in question gave the family of his bride a Mithun in gratitude; and thus was born the custom of paying a bridal price. The above may be an anecdote, but there is direct scientific evidence that compe-
tition for mates leads to aggression among males in nearly all species of animals. I have read an article in The National Geographic magazine which documents a tribe in the Amazon Forest that practices female infanticide. This is done, not to avoid paying Dowry, like our Indian counterparts; but to develop aggression among males in their competition for wives. This aggression leads to more risk taking and leads to a better success rate in hunting, upon which the tribe depends for its existence. So, I believe that Sumis have developed, not a genetic trait, but the behavioural trait of “Showing Off ” in our efforts to attract members of the opposite sex. But we, at least in the towns, if not the villages of Nagaland, must realise that those days are dead and gone. This is the day and age when you attract members of the opposite sex with your intellect and dependability, not your brawn and bravado. We must keep in mind that no matter how strong and tough we think we are, we can only beat up a few people at a time, and that too for a limited number of years, until age catches up with us. But our intellect grows and our dependability strengthens with the passage of time. So I want all Sumis to ponder and decide on how we want to project ourselves to those around us. Do we want to be seen as a stupid, reckless people? Or a people who can set an example for our fellow Nagas as intellectual and dependable? And while pondering on this, I want you to remember that Dimapur is not Zunheboto; none of our ancestors donated land to establish Dimapur, so Dimapur does not belong to us. irst of all, I am not a Kilonser of the NNC as the NNC has no Kilonsers. The NNC is only the political institution of the Naga nation “to guide and control the political policy and decisions of the nation”. This power is exercised through the Central Executive Council and the Regional and Sub-Regional Councils (Naga Yehzabo Art. 143,144 Clause 1&2). As for me, I am just a Kilonser without portfolio in the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN). The FGN in turn is the Executive Government of the Naga people headed by a President with a Council of Kilonsers who are elected by the Tatar Hoho (Parliament) of Nagaland. As for the Shillong Accord of 1975 for which you (and the NSCN IM) are accusing that the NNC has sold out the rights of the Naga nation through the Accord, let me clarify to you that the NNC had nothing to do with the Shillong Accord. This fact must be clearly understood by every Naga citizen because none of the signatories of the accord were from the NNC set up. Not one of the signatories of the Shillong Accord was an official of either the Central Executive Council or any Regional or Sub- Regional Council of the NNC political institution. To show this fact by quoting the names and portfolios of the signatories, they are as follows: 1. Kevi Yallie was at that time serving just as an interpreter for the FGN. He was not even a Tatar or Kilonser of the FGN though he was the younger brother of A.Z. Phizo. 2. Z. Ramyo was a Kilonser of the FGN without portfolio at this time. 3. S. Dahrü was a Tatar (Member of Parliament) of the FGN. 4.
M. Assa was a Major General in the Naga Army. 5. I. Temjenba was a Secretary of the FGN. As for Veneyi, though he was also a Tatar of the FGN and a member of the delegation, he refused to sign the accord. The list of names and their portfolios thus show that all of them were officials of the FGN and not officials of the NNC. Now when this is the case, how can you or any one else accuse the NNC of having sold out the rights of the Nagas through the Shillong Accord? Or graver still, how can A.Z. Phizo, who was at that time the President of the NNC as well as the Chairman of the NNC Central Executive Council be accused of having sold the Naga nation when neither he nor any of his colleagues (Including Th. Muivah) knew anything about the Shillong accord when it was signed under duress on November 11, 1975? If at all someone or some organization has to be blamed for signing the Shillong Accord, should it not be “The Underground Organization” that signed it? And what was this “Underground organization?” It was but an Indian Government created organization- the name of which was proposed by Dr. Aram and accepted by Governor L.P. Singh and his Advisor Mr. Ramunny on the spur of the moment at Shillong. This name was proposed by Dr. Aram of the Nagaland Peace Centre at the Governor’s Bhavan in Shillong on November 11, 1975 itself. This situation happened because of the following reasons. When the FGN delegation reached Shillong and met the Governor, they were shown the (already) drafted Shillong Accord document. After reading it, the delegation
requested the Governor to allow them to consult their colleagues before signing it. This request was rejected. They were instead told to go back to Chiedema and go back to the jungles if they refuse to sign. After a long silence, Kevi Yallie asked: “How shall we sign it?” The Governor replied that they should sign as representatives of the NNC and FGN. When Kevi Yallie countered the Governor saying, “Do you mean to say that your Government has withdrawn the Unlawful activities Prevention Act that has branded us as Unlawful Associations?” At this juncture, there was a long silence. The Governor must have realized that the Indian Government was trapped by its own treacherous tactics. This was because if the document was not signed as Representatives of the NNC and FGN than the whole exercise would be meaningless because the conflict was with the NNC and FGN. But on the other hand, if it was signed as NNC/FGN representatives, it would amount to re-recognizing a Government that they had already branded as an “Unlawful Association”. So realizing that a lawfully established government could not have a settlement with some “outlaws”, the Governor walked away from the room with Mr. Rammuny. It was only after they came out from a closed room and Dr. Aram suggested the word “Underground Organization” that the Shillong Accord document was signed with that title! But if besides an Organization, some individuals must be blamed for framing such a so called settlement document between two nations without mentioning even the name of one party to the conflict, then it is Dr. Aram, Governor L.P. Singh
and his Advisor Ramunny who should be blamed. All these facts are true and are on record. (The Shillong Accord does not mention the word Naga or Nagaland even once in the whole document). As for the signatories, they signed the document because it neither implicated the NNC nor the FGN as they had signed the document with only their names without mentioning their designations in the FGN. As for the then President Zashei’s reply as well as Phizo’s statement on the Shillong Accord, refer to Shapwon’s book “The illegal Formation of the NSCN.” In this book, you will also find the true facts about the formation of the NSCN which are totally different from the version you have presented in your article against me. You will also discover in this book that contrary to your information that Muivah and Isak were freed only in January 1980 from Naga army martial law custody, you will find that they were in fact freed in May 1979 by Khaplang. Because of this fact, Isak was able to give a Thanksgiving feast for his safe release on June 12, 1979 at Noklaw village in the Heimi region in connection with the Tuluni festival. It is also clear from these facts that both Isak and Muivah were released before the mass killing of all the top leaders of the NNC and FGN took place in December 1979. Finally let me end with some more corrections of your write up. The NNC is not holding on to any Ceasefire of the Shillong Accord but rejecting “the political part of the Accord” as alleged by you. This is totally incorrect, because there was no second Ceasefire before the signing of the accord. In
fact the accord was signed under complete military rule and oppression. Even after the accord was signed, when the FGN requested lifting of military operations and curfew from seven villages in the Angami region so that the delegation could discuss the accord with their colleagues, permission was granted for only three village areas. At that time most of their colleagues were still in hiding in the jungles. Also, remember that President Zashei had only three bodyguards left with him when the Shillong Accord was signed. Biseto Medon the Home Minister had only Major Rüguozelhou as his bodyguard. As for General Viyallie Metha the C-in-C of the Naga army, he had only five bodyguards left with him. Most of these leaders were starving and sleeping under thick bamboo groves because as one soldiers told
me, the Indian army at that time had seemed to outnumber the trees in the Naga jungles. The Shillong Accord was thus signed under such military oppression and dictation. Regarding the National Assembly that was held on 16th August 1976 where you have stated that Imkong Meren the Vice President of the NNC was not able to attend the meeting due to ill health, in fact, Imkong was at that time in an Indian Prison. But in total disregard and insult, Isak was elected as the Vice President of the NNC in that meeting. Also, Lt. Col. Subong declared Martial law on August 30, 1978 only after Muivah adopted a resolution on Aug.2 1978 to overthrow Phizo’s leadership (For details, see The Illegal formation of the NSCN p.35). Kaka D. The NST service managed by your team is unfortunately racing towards incorrigible state. The seats are no longer soft and smooth with the appearance of iron bars. Most of the windows and roofs are also no longer able to serve its purpose. One has to carry a material that is resistant towards water and wind power in the absence of window glasses. But those sitting below the rusted holes are always out of surrogacy as the water faces no challenges in providing shower when rain makes contact with the iron roof. With such conditions in place, how can we even expect people with morbid state to use your mode of transportation when most of the weaker section like me relies on you. I only hope that its not the same with your other buses as well and also believe that your team will soon initiate a cognitive leap and eradicate the abnormalities before the summer hits back. DIMAPUR: District Task Force (DTF) meeting was conducted at SDO’s (Civil) office Kiphire on March 31, to discuss the activities to be carried out during Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) 2ndround and Mission Indradhanush Phase-4 2nd round. A press note by CMO Kiphire, Imnasenla Pongener stated that Dr. Rebecca Y Sema (DPO, RCH-UIP) gave an overview of the activities chalked out for the programmes and also stated the performance of IPPI 1st round as having achieved 90% of the target. IPPI 2nd round would be conducted from April 1-3, 2017 targeting 10,362 children falling between 0-5 years. The first day would focus on administering polio drops through booth activities and other two days on house-tohouse visit by health workers. Mission Indradhanush2nd round of Phase-4 would target to immunize all 0-2 years and 5 year olds, and pregnant mothers. The second round would be conducted from April 7-13 and would cover 15 session sites of Pungro block and Indo-Myanmar bordering villages. Dr. Rebecca requested the attendees and community to spread the message of the importance of immunization and appealed to the beneficiaries to avail the services provided during the programmes. NEW DELHI, APR 1 (PTI): Passengers will continue to get benefits of service charge exemption on train tickets booked online till June 30. In order to help passengers and incentivise payments made through digital modes for booking of reserved tickets, service charge on online booking of train tickets was withdrawn for the tickets booked from November 23, 2016 to March 31, 2017. The exemption facility effective till March 31 this year has been extended further to June 30, said a senior railway ministry official. Railways received instructions from the Ministry of Information and Technologyadvising the public transporter to extend the incentives at least till June 30. The service charges on booking train tickets online through IRCTC ranges from Rs 20 to 40 per ticket. The government waived the service charges after demonetisation in November last year to encourage digital modes of booking. Approximately, an amount of Rs. 184 crore has not been realised from passengers on account of service charge and service tax thereon on reserved tickets booked online from November 23, 2016 to February 28, 2017, according to railways data.

Stating that the NDB -- set up by the BRICS bloc two years ago -- must be alive to the role envisioned for it by its founders, he said India has a huge unmet need for infrastructure investment, estimated at about Rs 43 lakh crore (about USD 646 billion) over the next five years. “Seventy per cent of this will be required in power, roads and urban infrastructure sectors,” he said. “This offers an enormous opportunity to an institution like the NDB, whose core mandate is sustainable infrastructure development.” Jaitley said the first agreement for an NDB loan in India to finance major district roads in Madhya Pradesh has been signed a couple of days ago. “With this, the NDB will have its first footprint

Heightening the concern is US intelligence suggesting that terrorists have obtained sophisticated airport security equipment to test how to effectively conceal explosives in laptops and other electronic devices, the CNN report said late Friday. Through a series of tests conducted late last year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) determined the laptop bombs would be far more difficult for airport screeners to detect than previous versions terrorist groups have produced. The FBI testing focused on specific models of screening machines that are approved by the Transportation Security Administration and are used in the US and around the world, the

The Sumi Council would further like to clarify the matter in the following few lines. That on the fateful day of 3rd March 2017, a group of persons numbering to 15 persons led by Mr. Pothita trespassed into the land of Mr. V.K. Sema which have been in occupation of of Mr. V.K. Sema for more that 50 years by forcefully by trying to erect the pillar post on the strength of a duplicate patta. The said land is well fenced and developed by Mr. V.K Sema and has been in his occupation peacefully. Whereas, Mr. Pothita tried to illegally demarcate the land of Mr. V.K Sema, on the said day with the patta which was purportedly issued in the year 2015. The said incident had occurred at Supply Colony, Dimapur therefore the validity of the said Notice is self explanatory. With regard to the said incident two FIRs are pending before the West Police Station Dimapur, one which had been lodged by Mr. Pothita for assault while, the Supply Colony GB had lodged counter FIR for trespass and both the FIRs are under investigation for logical conclusion. Therefore, the Sumi Council, Dimapur request the Model Village Yourabami Youth Association to withdraw the said Notice issued against Mr. Hokuto Zhimoni to avoid straining the peaceful and cordial relationship maintained between the two communities.

He also opined that individuals, while being proud about ‘our’ identity, should be able to transcend to a greater identity where ‘we’ accept and connect with every tribe, colour, creed and race etc as one. Speaking on behalf of the artisans, Mailam Ko n ya k a n d S h o j i l a Chang shared the difficulties they experienced in their profession. The work being time consuming, sometimes
it was really hard for us when customers bargain indiscriminately without understanding the amount of work that go into producing a piece of traditional attire, she lamented. However, it was for the love of ‘our’ culture and the importance of keeping it alive that motivates us in one way, she added. The artisans expressed gratitude to NEISSR for giving them a platform. The programme concluded with a group discussion where the students learned about the different traditional attires of different tribes from the artisans. Altogether, 14 artisans from different communities participated in the workshop along with 87 students.

SW students of North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) organized a workshop on “appreciation & promotion of traditional attires among Naga youth” on April 1 at NEISSR conference hall. The programme was taken up as a part of the forum activity by the students of the Youth Development specialization with the objective to reinstill the value of traditional attires among Naga youth; to promote the identity of Naga attires and to acknowledge the artisans keeping ‘our’ culture and tradition alive. Taking a turn from the normal trend of conducting workshops where intellectuals were invited as resource persons to deliberate on the appreciation of traditional attires, artisans who were actually working with and producing traditional attires were given the platform to speak and interact with the students. Principal, NEISSR, Dr. C.P. Anto spoke on the importance of preserving one’s identity. “Each of us is born into a culture and is shaped by our culture. Traditional attires are important component of our culture which define our identity”, he remarked. After the two-minute break, Sung went on an attacking spree, raising hopes of a fierce comeback as she reduced the deficit to two at 10-12. Sindhu, feeling the pressure, however, didn’t stop playing her aggressive game. Even though she made some unforced errors, the momentum swung in her favour. She then ran away with a 21-14 win. D i ma p u r , A p r 1 (NPN): Trinity Sporting emerged as the champions of the inaugural Case Premier League which came to a close today at the Police Ground, Chumukedima. Needing a win, Trinity edged STAFAC United Patkai by a solitary goal to finish top of the table with 16 points. Nungsang scored in the first half of the match as a nervous Trinity held on for precious three points. Earlier in the first match, Nizams FC defeated Case FC 2-0. Aloto Yeptho and Atsen Murry both scored in the second half as Nizams broke their run of three
consecutive defeats. Dr. Lipok, who was the tour nament’s top scorer, should have pulled one back late in the second half after being awarded a penalty but his effort struck the woodwork before going out of play. With the win, Nizams finished third on the table with 11 points. HHH, with 15 points, finished second. STAFAC United remained on 8 points while Case FC finished with 5 points. The inaugural edition of the Case Premier league kicked off in early February at Patkai Christian College ground with five teams – Case FC, Nizams FC, STAFAC United Patkai, Trinity FC and HHH.

In the final played on Saturday, they beat New Jalukie (Red) 3-0 to lift the title. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs.80, 000 along with trophy and certificate while the runner up
received Rs.30, 000 with trophy and certificate. The final match and the closing ceremony was graced by S Chuba Longkumer, parliamentary secretary, veterinary and animal husbandry as the guest of honour. In his address, Chuba said that sports is the only game of competition where both the opponent gains out of the game. As sport brings people together, it has become
the favourable platform to propagate peace, unity and development, said the guest of honour while adding that sports allow intercultural dialogue to ensure respect and equal dignity of all cultures.
