NPF moves to disqualify seven rebel legislators
DIMAPUR, APR 24 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) Wednesday filed disqualification petitions against its seven suspended rebel MLAs-- N. Thongwang Konyak (46 Mon Town A/C), Eshak Konyak (47 Aboi A/C), E.E. Pangteang (48 Moka A/C), B.S. Nganglang (49 Tamlu A/C), Toyang Chang (53 Tuensang Sadar I A/C), Kejong Chang (54 Tuensang Sadar II A/C) and C.L. John (45 Tehok A/C), for “wilfully” defying the party’s collective decision to support the Congress candidate in the Lok Sabha polls 2019. It may be recalled that the seven MLAs had on March 25 issued a written declaration to support the rival NDPP/PDA candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland. NPF press bureau in a statement, maintained that it was “crystal clear” that openly going against the party’s decision amounted to voluntarily giving up membership of the party. By doing so the MLAs attracted provisions under the 10th Schedule of the Anti Defection Law as amended
in 2003. NPF said the party empowered the NPF Legislature wing to file and pursue the disqualification petitions against the MLAs and in response, the Legislature wing filed the disqualification petition in the office of the Speaker. NPF expressed hope that the Speaker would dispose of the matter within the time and without fear or favour as per law. The seven NPF legislators had cited the absence of an NPF candidate for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 and also the decision to support the Congress candidate, which they said was “against the principle of regionalism”. They said the above had necessitated their decision to extend cooperation and support to the PDA consensus candidate and the PDA government. Tokheho Yepthomi contested as the consensus candidate of the ruling NDPP-led PDA comprising of BJP, JD(U) and an Independent. The NPF, did not field its candidate but decided to support Congress’ candidate, K.L. Chishi. The seven MLAs had

DIMAPUR, APR 24 (NPN): Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has claimed that the Ministry of Rural Development on April 8, 2019 released Rs. 242,75,77,000 as first instalment to the government of Nagaland as Central assistance towards wages, material and admin for implementation of the MGNREGA for the financial year 2019-20. NPRAAF through its information & publicity wing has appealed to the state government to immediately disburse the amount to the legitimate job card holders without delay. According to NPRAAF, the released amount, which should be deposited in the bank account of job card holders through direct benefit transfers (DBTs), was still lying with the state finance department.
also expressed appreciation of the performance of the PDA coalition which took office on March 8, 2018 to run the affairs of the state. They said after PDA came to power positive changes had taken place and where system of good governance was witnessed. Reacting to the open rebellion, NPF Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) issued show cause notices to the seven legislators. Later, all seven rebel MLAs were suspended from primary and active membership of the party by NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu as recommended by the DAC. In his suspension order, Dr. Liezietsu said that by their replies, the MLAs had “unambiguously” admitted what was set out in the show-cause notice by reiterating their stand in siding with the political opponent of the NPF in the LS polls. It now remains to be seen whether the seven MLAs can escape disqualification from the house by first resigning from the house before the speaker acts on the petitions.
N P R A A F a l s o ex pressed surprise over the recent order dated April 18, 2019 issued by the state government directing all project directors/BDOs to freeze bank accounts of all job card holders by April 30, 2019. The forum said the order, which was issued even before the sanctioned amount was disbursed to the beneficiaries, warned that fund would be held up for those district that failed to comply with the instruction. NPRAAF queried what alternative arrangement has the government made to transfer the cash to the beneficiaries if the bank account of the job card holders were to be frozen. It reminded that bank accounts were opened with much difficulty with the purpose of receiving cash transferred to their personal bank account.

Poll violation State BJP president defends Patton, complaint against says no evidence of multiple voting PM ‘missing’ Correspondent
KOHIMA, APR 24 (NPN): State BJP has strongly defended deputy chief minister Y Patton, who is also BJP Legislature Party leader, and condemned “rumours” being spread in social media in connection with a video clip purportedly showing his conduct on polling day on April 11. Addressing a press conference at his official residence here on Wednesday, State BJP president and higher education minister Temjen Imna Along said the video clip being circulated in social media allegedly showing Patton voting multiple times was a “blatant lie” as there was no evidence of the deputy chief minister doing so. Informing newsmen that BJP has got confirmation from the deputy chief minister that he has cast only his vote, Along said his party condemned the rumour being spread that Patton had cast multiple votes without proof. He said the whole issue was raked up to malign the image of Patton and ensure that people lose trust in the

polling process. On the allegation that Patton did not allow the police to investigate him in connection with an FIR lodged by Congress, Along remarked it was easy to accuse somebody without having proof, adding let the law take its own course. He also condemned Congress spokesperson in New Delhi for accusing Patton of violating model code of conduct without knowing facts. He alleged that Congress used propaganda as an election tool to score points over its opponents. He said the video needs to be verified about its authenticity as the returning officer (RO) and election observers have given a clean chit on the issue.
The State BJP chief opined that there was no need for a re-poll at polling station no. 31, Old Riphyim III since the RO and election observers have given a clean chit. He, however, added that Election Commission of India (ECI) should have called a re-poll due to the video clip that went viral and urged the observers to verify whether the votes were cast or not. Nevertheless, Along said his party welcomes the re-poll, adding BJP has complete faith on ECI and exuded confidence that the party will get more votes than before. He also cautioned citizens against believing things without proof. (Cont’d on p-7)
NEW DELHI, APR 24 (AGENCIES): A complaint alleging poll code violation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Maharashtra appears to be “missing” from Election Commission’s website, reports NDTV. A total of 426 complaints have so far been made to EC throughout the campaign. The list is publicly available on EC’s site. The lone complaint filed on April 9 accusing Modi of violating the code is not seen on the list. The complaint was filed by a Kolkata-based individual, Mahendra Singh after the PM urged voters at a rally in Maharashtra to dedicate their votes to the “Pulwama martyrs” and soldiers who carried out Balakot strike. A senior EC official however said complaint was not resolved, blaming the incorrect status displayed on a “technical glitch”. The official said complaint was “very much open” and a report from the Maharashtra electoral officer was under consideration. But two weeks on, there is no action from EC on the complaint against PM.
7-day ultimatum served on PGCIL to rectify power lines
DIMAPUR, APR 24 (NPN): Green-SONS has set a seven-day ultimatum for Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to rectify the power grid line from Doyang Hydro Electric Project to Dimapur. In a letter to general manager PGCIL, Green-SONS chairman Jess Murry also warned filing a PIL, if the corporation fails to act within the deadline. The letter recalled that two elephants were electrocuted on October 24, 2018 at Sanis by the power lines, following which the Forest department urged PGCIL to rectify the power lines by increasing their heights. Yet, it pointed out that no action was taken, which led to a wildfire caused by electric sparks from the power line at Sanis in February this year. Besides, two more elephants were electrocuted at the (Cont’d on p-7) same spot on April 7.

while Bishop of Kohima has requested for special prayers in all the Catholic Churches and communities for the victims. In a press note, ABAM executive secretary described Easter as “one of the glorious days in the history of Christianity”, adding that Easter Sunday was “a day of victory and life but not defeat nor death.” ABAM stated that every Christian observes Easter Sunday with a hope of an everlasting life after one completes his/her allotted days and years from God. Citing Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men to die, but after this the judgment”, ABAM, however, said that such an unnatural and demonic act that killed so many believers during the Easter “Mass” and many innocent people in different locations in Colombo was beyond human normality and tolerance. “We believe that
all the victims have gained their eternal home. But the questions arise as to where is the world heading to? Where is the security? How long can one give his/her life to kill innocent people without reason?” ABAM stated. Stating that such act was in total contravention of the law of God, ABAM said God will surely repay to those involved in this blatant act. “But we cannot just wait on God to act upon now, but do some prevention programmes all over to provide general safety as suicide bombing is becoming a culture,” ABAM underlined. Terming the attack as “lunatic”, the ABAM has appealed to all in power to initiate preventive measure so as to give general public assured security and safety and obliterate those heinous activities. To show solidarity with the bereaved families,
ABAM has appealed to all the Churches under the aegis of ABAM to hold one minute silent prayer followed by a mass prayer for the bereaved families during Sunday worship service on April 28, 2019.
Special prayers
Bishop of Kohima, the Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil has requested for special prayers in all the Catholic Churches and Communities for the victims of Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka. In a press release, Bishop’s house stated that the Most Reverend described those attacks were “extremely evil” and “blasphemous”.
