Niki group reacts to ‘fictional write ups’ DIMAPUR, APR 22 (NPN): Reacting to what it described as “fictional piece of write ups emanating from certain sections of National workers”, Niki-led NSCN (K) Thursday said it was “truly astounded” to find out from “some combined groups that seem to know better than NSCN/GPRN and are more privy to the workings and dealings of the NSCN/GPRN and the Government of India.” In a press note, MIP kilonser Nikato Pilot Sumi said the group had “no shady motives or dealings but have laid in out in the open for all” as it believed that peaceful and inclusive solution could only be achieved through transparency and participation of all Nagas. “We would welcome presentation of any evidential proof to the Naga people, as to the charges being levelled on the NSCN/ GPRN,” he said. Further, the group reiterated its “steadfast determination and commitment” to the Nagas on an inclusive and amicable political solution with the participation of all stakeholders.

The official said that the post appeared in a private social media group. “Investigation is on as to find out how an individual made up this story that demoralised the IRB personnel on duty,” the official added. Asserting that the Nagaland Police IRB personnel were performing their duties in an outstanding manner, he said that such malicious stories tarnish their reputation and image in the eyes of the public. “We will get to the bottom of this and take action as per D I M A P U R , A P R 2 2 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) has the law,” the police officer assured. asked dealers and shopkeepers not to exploit the present situation following the spike in corona virus cases and over speculations of a maintain social distancing clarified that screening/test- lockdown. and follow COVID-appro- ing of incoming passengers In a statement, NSCN priate behaviour. by train or any other means (I-M) ministry of kilo afCPRO clarifies: React- of transportation was the re- fairs said some traders had ing to the news item regard- sponsibility of the respective reportedly hiked prices of ing the sorry state of affairs State and that it was being essential items like mustard at Dimapur railway station, done by them as per the pre- oil and selling it at Rs 150 NFR chief public relations vailing SOP of the State. per litre, instead of Rs 100, (Cont’d on p-5) which was the usual rate. almost a “national emergency” and sought a national plan from the Centre on tackling the “alarming situation”. (Read more on p-6) Several hospitals across the country are facing oxygen shortage as Covid cases see a record spike day after day. Desperate need for medical oxygen has even led to fighting between the states, prompting the courts to step in.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research director general, Dr Balram Bhargava, the oxygen requirement in the second wave of Covid-19 stood at 54.5% as compared to 41.5% in the first wave. Bhargava also said that while the demand for oxygen has increased proportionately in the second wave, the demand for ventilator has not been high. According to AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria, healthy individuals with oxygen saturation in the range of 93-94 per cent do not need to take high-flow oxygen just to maintain their saturation at 98-99 per cent. “Oxygen is a treatment, it is like a drug,” Guleria said to drive home the point that taking it intermittently is an absolute waste of oxygen. Dr Naresh Trehan, chairman, Medanta Hospital, has urged people not to use oxygen as a “security blan(Cont’d on p-5) ket”.

DIMAPUR, APR 22 (NPN): Railway authorities at Dimapur railway station have begun screening passengers using thermo screening equipment and have also started sanitising the platform areas besides enhanc-

ing the amount meant for cleaning the station premises by engaging manual labourers, from Rs 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month. On Thursday, Railway Protection Force personnel and Travelling Ticket Examiners were seen screening passengers at the station.

Nagaland Post had on April 19 published a report regarding Nagaland’s only railway station not being brought under the ambit of COVID protocols, nor sanitation or proper maintenance being carried out amid rise in COVID cases across the country. NFR divisional commercial manager (DCM), Lumding division, AK Dey had also informed Nagaland Post that the three-year contract with an agency for cleaning the station had expired in July 2020, which was yet to be renewed, and nor any new tender had been floated for awarding new contract.

Dey had also said that Lumding division authorities had temporarily stopped the contract system due to acute shortage of fund. However, after the divisional meeting held on April 19, Dey said he had requested authorities to increase the cleanliness amount and, accordingly, the proposal was accepted and the amount enhanced to Rs. 50,000 from Rs 30,000 per month. With this, he claimed that proper cleaning/sanitisation of the station would be carried out throughout the day. He said regular announcements were also being made through public address system at the station urging people to
