We told them that free and fair polls cannot be ensured unless EVMs are taken out of use,” he said. The poll watchdog, which has vouched for the reliability of EVMs, said it would soon convene an all-party meet to discuss the issue, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal and DMK leader T Siva told reporters after the meeting. The opposition leaders decided to put forth their demand before the EC for simultaneous use of VVPAT (paper trail of voting) and ballot paper in 50
per cent constituencies each for elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh slated later this year. “This will help check the voting system and dispel all doubts about their use in elections,” said a leader. Another Cong ress leader, Anand Sharma said: “The EC heard each political party patiently and the grievance was unanimous -lack of faith in EVMs. The EC assured that an all-party meeting will be convened soon and it will seriously examine our grievances.” Opposition leaders

The Congress has also been pushing for use of ballot papers instead of EVMs in upcoming elections in view of the alleged tampering. The parties are demanding that the EC dispel the apprehensions they have and reassure the people of the country and voters on the serious issue. The opposition parties observed that free and fair elections are the basic founding blocks on which the entire edifice of country has been maintained. “Any erosion of these basic principles which sustain this edifice needs to be addressed forthwith and in the right earnest,” said another leader. ACAUT cautions NE states most dependent on central goods transporters assistance; Nagaland tops the list
DIMAPUR, APR 10 (NPN): ACAUT on Monday warned goods transporters of police action in the event they were found entertaining the Naga Factional Groups (NFGs) on the matter related to taxation. ACAUT media cell claimed that the transporters have been approached by some factions to deduct tax at the godowns after wholesalers of footwear items remained firm on the stand of ACAUT not to pay tax. However, some cadres aligned themselves with the “baadmashi transporters” and decided to impose Rs. 150 per every carton or crate of footwear at the transport godowns, failing which the goods would not be released. ACAUT stand was that by aligning with the NFGs, the “goods transporters have become anti-social elements, criminals and extortionists whereby they will not release the goods if money is not paid”. ACAUT also reminded NFGs that due to burden of taxation in Nagaland, many business houses have migrated to Lahorijan and Khatkhati and have grown rivals to Dimapur. In the light of the above, ACAUT has asked NFGs to seriously rethink on this issue if they consider that the Naga movement was based on love for the land. It also urged Dimapur police to remain vigil for such activities by the transporters.
NEW DELHI, APR 10 (AGENCIES): While other major states in India depend less on the centre for monetary support, states in Northeast on the other hand, depends largely on the centre’s support. The north-eastern states and J&K are the most dependent on central assistance, but Bihar, among the major states, too leans on the Centre’s shoulder. Delhi on the other hand, generates more than 90% of its own revenue and so expects the least financial support from the central government among all states. Among the more self-reliant states are Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. In 2016, Prime minister, Narendra Modi based on the report of the Committee of Chief Ministers, said that the Centre has decided to continue to provide assistance in the ratio of 90:10 for core Central schemes and 80:20 for non-core schemes to the North Eastern States. Earlier, the Northeastern states claimed that under the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime funding pattern for several
schemes in the region was 90:10 where Centre contributed 90% and state share stood at 10% was discontinued. Eight Northeast eastern states including Sikkim which are members of the North Eastern council (NEC) had adopted a resolution stating that from the recommendation of 14th finance commission it appears that the special category state status of Northeastern states is going to discontinued. Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar took lead in drafting the resolution which stated that changes in the funding pattern will drastically affect the Northeastern states.

NEW DELHI, APR 10 (AGENCIES): A bill to unleash radical reforms in the transport sector by ensuring 100 per cent e-governance, checking bogus driving licenses and vehicle thefts, slapping heavy penalty on traffic violators and protecting the good samaritan was approved by the Lok Sabha on Monday. All efforts would be made to eliminate corruption in the sector, road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said while replying to a discussion on the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016, claiming that “no bogus driving lincenses would be made and there would be no theft of the vehicles once there is e-governance.” The bill was passed by a voice vote after several opposition amendments were rejected, including one moved by a CPM member on enhancing the compensation in case of accidents, was defeated by
37 votes in favour and 221 against. There should be uniformity in the rules concerning issuance of driving licenses, the minister said, adding that through “e-governance, there would be provision of electronic registration.” The bill seeks to “save lives” by ushering in radical reforms in the motor vehicles law to slap heavy penalty on traffic violators, protecting good samaritans and making vehicle-makers responsible for design defects to cut road accidents. The basic aim of the bill is “to save human lives”, as a whopping five lakh accidents take place every year claiming around 1.5 lakh lives across the country. “Once we (BJP) complete five years, we would be able to save 50 per cent lives lost due to road accidents. We are working towards it,” Gadkari said. The minister said once
the changes are incorporated in the law, it would be impossible for anyone including VIPs like politicians to obtain driving license without tests. “Even as a minister I would not be able to obtain driving license sitting at home,” Gadkari stressed. On a specific opposition amendment on compensation which was defeated by 221 votes against to 37 in favour, Gadkari said it would not be possible to increase the compensation in case of death to Rs 20 lakh as it would entail substantial hike in insurance premium. The amendment was moved by CPI-M member Sankar Prasad Datta. Stressing that any kind of corruption would not be tolerated in the transport sector, he said “we will have to bring online governance to put an end to the corruption. Corruption would not be tolerated and we are firm on this.”

Mokokchung, Apr 10: Ao Senden during its Federal Council meeting on Monday resolved to excommunicate P. Chuba Ozukum, president of the Naga Hoho with immediate effect. Ao Senden acting president C. Angang Jamir and acting secretary L. Tally Lkr further made known to all the P. Chuba Ozukum has been stripped of the rights to represent Aos in any platform. The decision to this effect was made based on the November 14, 2016 Federal Council meeting wherein the Senden had resolved to inform P. Chuba Ozukum to relinquish from the post of president Naga Hoho in order to safeguard the rights and prestige of the Aos. However, the Senden said P. Chuba Ozukum failed to listen to the federal council’s resolution till date. Further, the Ao Senden Federal Council also strongly condemned the views and decision of Naga Hoho for not allowing its president to step down, terming it as an act against the decision of the Aos. In this regard, the Senden categorically pointed out that “no tribal hoho has the right to interfere in other tribal hoho’s resolution and legitimacy.”
‘No poor will be deprived by making Aadhaar mandatory’ PWD (NH) clarifies on NH-2 widening work New Delhi, Apr 10 (PTI): Accusing the Congress of painting Aadhaar as a curse, the government Monday asserted that no poor person would be deprived of the subsidy benefits by making the Aadhaar mandatory and that privacy of individuals will be protected. Minister of IT and Law Ravi Shankar Prasad stated this in the Rajya Sabha while replying to a discussion on Aadhaar against the backdrop of concerns expressed by the opposition over making the biometricbased identification system mandatory for availing of government subsidies. “I want to make it very clear on the behalf of the government that no poor shall be denied his subsidy rights at all. Be very clear about that. Whether it is, a mid day meal or any other benefit, we have said that you come on Aadhaar but
no denial will be there,” he assured the House. “The right of privacy of individual must be respected... The question to be considered is, are we invading privacy through the Aadhaar law, the answer is ‘No’,” he said. Observing that at present, over 113 crore residents in India have Aadhaar, Prasad said that “Aadhaar is safe, let me say proudly that the data is secure”. He said that in the last six years, the government has cancelled and blacklisted 34,000 operators who tried to pollute the system or tried to make fake Aadhaar cards. “Since December 2016, we have taken action against 1,000 operators. We have a proper oversight system available which we do at all the authority at our command,” he said. Accusing the Congress of trying to paint Aadhaar
as a curse, Prasad outlined several benefits associated with it. “You need to come on Aadhaar but the benefits will not be denied to you, you can come with alternative identity proof be it ration card, MNREGA Card, driving licnse or others. But please apply for Aadhaar, that is the whole essence,” he said. “Fake bank accounts is a known phenomena. We cannot wish away that poor people have lost their savings. So these realities are known,” Prasad said. To back his assertion of Aadhaar data being secure, the Law Minister reasoned that minimum data is collected by the authorities, and information related to an individual’s religion, caste, language, medical history or ethnicity is not profiled. “Let me outline minimum data is being taken for preparation of Aadhaar card, the authorities are
under strict instructions to maintain that secrecy and if they flout they can also suffer three years of imprisonment and prosecution,” the Law Minister argued. Pointing out that national security is important, he said that even in cases of national security, a highlevel mechanism has been put in place whereby a designated officer of the Home Ministry shall for reasons to be recorded in writing certify disclosure of a person’s Aadhaar data. Further, he said that a committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary will ascertain and confirm that a person’s Aadhaar data needs to be disclosed in such cases. “This is the kind of safeguards we have given that the biometrics of an ordinary person even in case of national security cannot be opened unless certified by this level of higher authorities,” Prasad said.
D I M A PUR , A PR 1 0 (NPN): Responding to Lotha Hoho and Rengma Hoho “open ultimatum”, which demanded immediate start of the road widening work along NH-2 for the two sectors by April 18, chief engineer (CE) PWD (NH) clarified that the project “widening to 2-Lane from Km 40.00 to Km 72.40 of NH-61 under NH Division Kohima in the State of Nagaland” was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on June 18, 2010 for an amount of Rs. 9368.08 lakh. The CE said tenders were invited and work was awarded to M/S Meenakshi Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. However, a case pertaining to award of works of the project was filed in the Court and the case went through a long process of litigation. Finally, the MORTH foreclosed the project on February 19, 2015, said CE.
Thereafter, the CE said the project under the nomenclature “strengthening and widening to 2-lane with paved shoulder of NH-61 from Km 40.00 to Km 72.40 under EPC mode in the State of Nagaland” was sanctioned by the MoRTH on October 31, 2016. According to CE, the ministry allowed the project to be split into two packages (Package I –from Km 40.00 to Km 56.00 and package II –from Km 56.00 to Km 72.40. Bids were invited and technical bids for both the packages were opened on January 20, 2017, said the CE. With regard to package I, CE said bids had to be invited two times since one bidder (out of two bidders) was found to be ‘non-responsive’. CE however said the tender evaluation was in progress and was likely to be awarded by last part of April. With regard to Package II, the CE said Letter of Ac-
ceptance (LOA) has already been issued on March 31, 2017. CE said the tender process was delayed by three weeks due to the State wide ‘Bandh’ in the month of February, 2017. Unlike other con tract procurement systems, which take about one to two months, the CE said in the case of Engineering Procurement Contract (EPC) mode adopted for the instant project, it will take a considerable period of time to complete the tendering process. However, the CE said once the process was completed, the progress of work would be smooth and would be strictly completed within the stipulated time. Acknowledging the problems faced by the general public due to poor road condition, the department has appealed to all responsible to bear with the inconveniences and wait for the tender process to be completed. Activist threatened with rape, acid attacks in Assam
New Delhi, Apr 10 (Agencies): A human rights activist from Jorhat, Assam, has been threatened on social media with death, rape and acid attacks, allegedly by members of Bajrang Dal, for condemning the arrest of three people in the town for possessing beef. On April 4, the Jorhat police arrested three people – including a minor – following a complaint by local BJP leader Mridupawan Bora, accusing them of hurting the religious sentiments because they were in possession of 500 gms of beef meant for consumption. While the minor was sent to an observation home on April 5, the two adults, Abdul Rahman and Shah Jamal Haque, were charged under Section 295 (a) of the IPC and the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 1950. The Cattle Preservation Act, however, doesn’t criminalise possession of beef, but only lays down the circumstances under which slaughtering cattle may be permitted. Many people in the state questioned the arrest on social media, including Bondita Acharya. Speaking to The Wire from Jorhat, Acharya, the northeast coordinator
of Human Rights Defenders Alert (HRDA), related, “The conversation on Facebook was about people other than the Muslim community eating beef in the state. I commented that people even from higher castes of Hindus consume beef. Suddenly, some strangers began to abuse me using the most offensive language.” She said, “They threatened me with death, rape, acid attacks, and also hurled sexually explicit abuse to defame me. What shocked me was also that the language used to abuse me was Assamese.” “I also feel the anger was directed at me because I am a Brahmin and a woman,” she added. On April 10, Acharya lodged a complaint with the superintendent of police, CID (Guwahati), which thereafter alerted the Jorhat SP. She said, “The local police have assured me all help to identify and nab the culprits.” The local Bajrang Dal has reportedly issued a press statement demanding a public apology from her for condemning the arrests. “They have also put it out on social media asking people to identify my house in Jorhat,” she
added. Alongside the police complaint, Acharya has approached the National Human Rights Commission on April 11 morning, urging “for an urgent hearing” on her case. Meanwhile, Women Against Sexual Violence and State Repression (WSS), of which Acharya is a member, issued a statement on April 11 to “strongly condemn” the manner in which she was “criminally intimidated, abused in sexual language, defamed and trolled on her Facebook account only because she expressed her personal opinion regarding eating beef, a common practice in her state of Assam.” “She is being threatened with acid attack, rape and gang rape and issued death threats. It is clear that the persons making these threats are associated with Hindutva organisations as the Bajrang Dal even issued a press release demanding a public apology (from her). We demand that the complaint she has lodged with the Superintendent of Police (CID) be immediately registered and strong action be taken against the perpetrators of threats,” the statement said.

The state government delegation would be led by Additional secretary in the Home department, Lalbiakzama while the HPC (D) delegation would be headed by working president of the HPC (D) L T Hmar and comprising of overground Hmar leaders from both Manipur and Mizoram.

Secular ethics the only way to bring peace: Dalai Lama
Correspondent
Tawang, Apr 10: Tibetan Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama on Monday said secular ethics is the only way to bring lasting peace and happiness in the world. “Peace in post World War II is built on fear. But genuine peace can come only through inner peace,” he said. The Dalai Lama, who gave a talk on “Secular Ethics and Happiness” on the final day of his four-day visit to Tawang, stressed that inner peace can come through training of the mind. Delivering his talk to an audience assembled at Kalawangpo Hall, the Nobel Peace laureate reiterated that secular ethics must be achieved through education and not just through prayers or faith. Chief Minister Pema Khandu was also present at the august gathering. Replying to a query on what would be the state of secular ethics when presently the world is witnessing clash of beliefs, the Dalai Lama said, “Neither can destroy each other’s beliefs. So best way is to make peace and live together.” “A terrorist killing in the name of religion can never be true to his faith. However, efforts must be made to reach out to them
as they are not born terrorist but circumstances made them so,” he said. Emphasising on education as the key to bring in human understanding and values, the Dalai Lama lamented that western nations are not helping in brining true values of education due to which everyone is after material pursuit brining untold human sufferings. Responding to a question on Buddhist belief on Karma, the Dalai Lama urged the audience to follow Buddhist teachings only after having convinced themselves through investigation and experiments. He said followers of Buddhist philosophy have the liberty to reject it if they find it unsatisfactory. Asked whether religious rituals have become more important than wisdom or philosophy, the spiritual leader declared that rituals are not important. However, he emphasised on use of intelligence to transform emotions and not through rituals. E a r l i e r, t h e D a l a i Lam released a book titled - “Ocean and Blue Mountains” published by department of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs (DoKAA) in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other dignitaries.

national ED summons Himachal CM for questioning
NDA constituents to fight 2019 polls under Modi’s leadership
NEW DELHI, APR 10 (AGENCIES): To show how the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance now has nationwide presence and has expanded to 32 parties and to convince other regional parties to join the coalitiion, leaders of all its constituents, half a dozen of which are new entrants to the alliance, met here today. The show of strength is significant in the run up to the elections to the posts of the President, where the electoral college comprises the two Houses of Parliament and all directly elected legislators. The NDA is currently a mere 20,000 short of the majority mark for the election to the President scheduled for July. The meeting was also a signal to fence sitters among regional parties to come in the NDA fold. The BJP is not averse to parties like All India Anna Dravida

Munnetra Kazhagam of Tamil Nadu joining the NDA. In the run up to the meet, BJP chief Amit Shah personally invited several of the leaders, from Shiv Sena chief Uddha Thackeray to Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Bimal Gurung. The BJP hopes to expand NDA beyond its current 31 allies in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, especially by bringing smaller parties under the NDA umbrella in the states where the alliance scored poorly in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has identified 120 seats where it hopes to do well in the 2019 Lok Sabha to compensate for any losses that it might suffer in its strongholds in northern and western India. Most of these seats are in the North Eastern states, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The constituents were also asked to spread the word about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘garib kalyan’, or welfare of the poor, agenda, and the over 90 pro-poor schemes launched by the BJP-led government at the
Centre. According to a BJP strategist, the party is keen to forge alliances with smaller parties, particularly parties that represent particular social classes and communities, in areas where it has traditionally been weak. In recently concluded assembly polls in the five states, the BJP forged alliances with smaller outfits like Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh, and formed governments in Manipur and Goa with the help of regional outfits. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All the leading allies attended the meeting, including Telugu Desam Party chief and Andhra CM N Chandrababu Naidu, Peoples Democratic Party leader and Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti, and the chiefs of its allies in Maharashtra, Bihar, North Eeastern states, Kerala, etc.

TN: EC cancels RK Nagar bypolls over Rs 89 cr cash-for-vote scam NEW DELHI, APR 10 (AGENCIES): The Election Commission on Sunday night cancelled the 12 April bypoll to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu over the use of money power to influence voters. After several rounds of meeting with Tamil Nadu election officials, the Election Commission decided to rescind the election notification. It said the by-election will be held in “due course when the vitiating effect created by the distribution of money and gift items to allure the electors gets removed with the passage of time”. Sleuths of the Income
Tax Investigation wing conducted searches in properties and offices belonging to Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar on Friday across Tamil Nadu. The searches on premises of an associate of Vijayabaskar has revealed routing of Rs 89 crore for “distribution to voters” in R K Nagar Assembly constituency which goes to poll on 12 April. Vijayabaskar is a prominent loyalist of AIADMK (Amma) faction’s candidate TTV Dinakaran. Vijayabaskar, who is the first state minister to come under the lens of taxmen, is among the key cam-
paigners in the bypolls. There were also several complaints of alleged money distribution by AIADMK’s Amma faction. The seat fell vacant after the death of the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa on 5 December and the bypoll is being viewed as a battle of prestige for the two factions of the AIADMK. The AIADMK (Amma) faction is led by VK Sasikala. The other faction is led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam. On 27 May last year, the EC had recommended to the Tamil Nadu Governor to cancel the notification to hold polls to the Arvakurichi and
Thanjavur Assembly constituencies following evidence that a large sum of money was used to influence the voters there. Tamil Nadu had gone for Assembly polls on May 16 last year after which the AIADMK returned to power for a second consecutive term. EC had used its constitutional powers in March 2012 recommending to the President cancellation of the notification for Rajya Sabha biennial election from Jharkhand even after the polling had concluded after it found that money was used to influence voters.
Violence in Kashmir before Anantnag poll Srinagar/ New Delhi, Apr 10 (IANS): A school building was set ablaze as mobs stoned security personnel on Monday in Anantnag town and adjoining areas, prompting Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s brother and PDP contestant Tassaduq Hussain Mufti to seek deferment of the Wednesday Lok Sabha by-election in the region. The fresh violence amid a complete shutdown in response to a call from separatists comes a day after widespread clashes, disrupting voting for the Srinagar by-election, while security forces left eight civilians dead in central and north Kashmir. A police officer told IANS here that clashes e r u p t e d i n P u lwa m a , Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian districts of south Kashmir - the region that is scheduled to vote on Wednesday for a Lok Sabha by-poll. The officer said mobs threw stones at security forces at more than a dozen places as the forces used tear gas canisters and baton charged the crowds to disperse them. Amid the protests, mosque loudspeakers played slogans hailing Islam and pro-freedom songs. In Shopian, people took to the streets after security forces arrested suspected troublemakers on Sunday night. Protesters earlier set ablaze a school building the second in two days - in Shopian that was designated as a polling station for the Wednesday by-poll, the officer said. Top district education officer Mohammad Sadiq told reporters that “three rooms of the government school were damaged. On Sunday, a government school was torched by unknown persons in neighbouring Pulwama district.

More than a show
here seemed to be a climb down during the past five years on the showcasing hype of local produce which used to be big affairs during 2003-2010 .This gradual eclipse of the mega Agri-Expo shows could also perhaps be explained as a result of the change of focus. During 2005 state Agriculture and Allied departments organized a showy exhibition titled AgroExpo in 2005 and the Rice Festival in 2006. The subsequent Agro-Expo festival in the few years succeeding gradually ebbed. When the AgriExpo took off during 2005, it provided a window of opportunities to farmers from the region to exhibit their produce and also explore business opportunities. Broadly, the objective of the events is to create a link between growers and buyers to promote the economies of the farming community of the region. The idea behind these events is well meant and the first crust was broken in 2005 where farmers as well as people could obtain vital information about their produce as well as the demand. In 2006 the Rice Festival did not live up to expectations and somewhat paled in comparison with the 2005 mega-event. The venue is something to be appreciated and much more development and landscaping has to be done to make it a truly remarkable place. Such festivals need to be tailor made for the local growers to compete with others from the region. There is need to promote agro produce in a serious and realistic way in the state and a serious look is needed on the various schemes. Most of the schemes like subsidized tractor machineries of the big kind are not practicable and in the end, almost all of these tractors are sold off to others from outside the state. The agro festivals should continue to be a regular annual affair so that it would register in the minds of people across the region. With various state governments in the region going all out to attract investors and also doing their best to built infrastructures for organizing mega events; what has been started in Dimapur should progress so that the venue could become an important place for such events. The other benefits to the state and in particular, Dimapur, cannot be underscored since there are many fringe benefits for private entrepreneurs, transporters, hoteliers etc to name a few. Such programmes can also serve to benefit potential entrepreneurs through learning process that can be demonstrated by various government enterprises in meat, fruit and pickle packing etc. It would be in the fitness of things if these events also inculcate ideas and participation by private parties and not bright and impractical ideas coming out of government bureaucrats. Unless a professional approach and touch is given, the efforts and huge sums of money spent to showcase these events would hardly lead to a synergy of potential and opportunities. Nagaland has good potential for organic fruits, vegetables and tea etc and organizing such exhibitions (rather than calling them festivals) is not only worthwhile but also complements the policy of promoting agriculture produce in the state.
DailyDevotion Effective Decision About Sin
…our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. —Romans 6:6 Co-Crucifixion. Have you made the following decision about sin—that it must be completely killed in you? It takes a long time to come to the point of making this complete and effective decision about sin. It is, however, the greatest moment in your life once you decide that sin must die in you– not simply be restrained, suppressed, or counteracted, but crucified— just as Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world. No one can bring anyone else to this decision. We may be mentally and spiritually convinced, but what we need to do is actually make the decision that Paul urged us to do in this passage. Pull yourself up, take some time alone with God, and make this important decision, saying, “Lord, identify me with Your death until I know that sin is dead in me.” Make the moral decision that sin in you must be put to death. This was not some divine future expectation on the part of Paul, but was a very radical and definite experience in his life. Are you prepared to let the Spirit of God search you until you know what the level and nature of sin is in your life— to see the very things that struggle against God’s Spirit in you? If so, will you then agree with God’s verdict on the nature of sin— that it should be identified with the death of Jesus? You cannot “reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin” (Romans 6:11) unless you have radically dealt with the issue of your will before God. Have you entered into the glorious privilege of being crucified with Christ, until all that remains in your flesh and blood is His life? “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20).

If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one. ~ Mother Teresa
T
he White Revolution was launched in 1970, with a view to making India milk sufficient. It made India into the world’s largest milk producer, surpassing the USA in 1998, with about 17 percent of global output in 2010–11. In 30 years the official story is that milk production has again doubled. But this cannot be true because all the cattle going for illegal slaughter now are milking cows and this figure runs into lakhs. Also the government’s own FSSAI reports are that as much as 80% of milk on the market is fake. From time to time a survey of the number of cattle is done. This is mainly concocted by bureaucrats sitting at a ministry desk and it is done so that more money can bebrought into this sector. Vets on the ground in the districts are never involved in any headcount and there is no methodology till today by which a headcount can be done. It is like the tiger count during the eighties, a mathematical exercise done by doubling numbers and then multiplying them again. When a methodology was worked out, and a proper survey was done, the numbers were not 25,000, as the government claimed, but only 1,400. The same thing will prove true of cattle. After all, we are the largest exporters of beef in the world — you cannot have milk and meat from the same animal. If there was enough milk why is half of India drinking reconstituted dried milk, falsely labelled fresh? India has 37 pure cattle breeds. Five of these — Sahiwal (at 2000-4000 kg/ lactation on average), Gir
(2000-6000 kg/lactation on average), Red Sindhi (2000-4000 kg/lactation on average), and Tharparkar and Rathi (1800-3500 kg/ lactation on average each), — are known for their milking prowess. These breeds are now on the verge of extinction, thanks to the White Revolution. Merely helping small farmers increase their cows’ food and water intake, and living conditions, could have had miraculous results. (Indian cows, for instance, are doing really well in Brazil. In 2011, a pure Gir named Quimbanda Cal broke its own 2010 record of delivering 10,230 kilolitres of milk a year, with a daily yield of 56.17 kilolitres). But instead of focusing on — and improving — the reasons why the yield of these cows was low in India, the government in the 1960s started crossbreeding Indian cows with imported bulls and semen. One of the main reasons for India’s presently looming milk crisis — and the disappearance of India’s desi cows — is a faulty premise in official thinking about exotic crossbreeds, which no government has tried to revise. Add to this, a deliberate misrepresentation of the viability of desi cows ( so that we can keep importing cows, and officials can keep going abroad to look at them) and it is entirely believable that India will become a milk importing nation. In the next 10 years, the projected demand for milk in India will touch 180 million tonnes (as I said before, most demand is now being met with fake milk). The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) warns that if India cannot
There is enough milk keep pace, it will have to start importing milk, leading to much higher consumer prices. Cattle improvement was linked to the sole methodology of bringing in alien breeds of Jersey and Holstein-Friesen and using them in a nation-wide cross-breeding program to improve the domestic milk production capacity. The imported Jersey purebreds, on an average, produce 3,000 to 5,000 litres in a lactation year. But the resulting Jersey crossbreeds, that were born, do not yield more than 2,500 to 3,000 litres. Imagine if the country had, instead, gone in for developing the yielding of its own indigenous breeds, India’s milk production would have surpassed all global records. Indiscriminate crossbreeding of Indian cattle with foreign breeds, under the Intensive Cattle Breeding Programme (ICDP), has already put more than 80 per cent of Indian cattle in the nondescript category. But, official data continues to be fudged: when official data records the average yield of indigenous cows as 2.2 kg daily, it clubs non-dairy draught breeds together with the five top milch breeds. This deliberately undermines the performance of India’s best milch cows — such as Girs and Rathis — to
establish the supremacy of exotic cattle. Meanwhile Indian cattle breeds are doing exceptionally well abroad, in the US, Australia and Brazil. We are losing out not just on milk output but the quality of milk. It is now a known fact that there are two kinds of milk: A 1 and A 2. A 2 milk is from indigenous breeds, and scientific evidence shows Indian (zebu) cattle give A 2 milk. European varieties of cattle, like Holstein, give A 1 milk, and evidence has started piling up linking A1 protein (present in allEuropean breed milk) with high risks of type-1 diabetes, coronary heart disease, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, arteriosclerosis, sudden infant death syndrome, autism and schizophrenia. Since we have almost wiped out all our own cattle, what should be done with the half breeds? They cannot work in the fields, nor are they strong enough to be draught animals. In any case, the demand for draught animals has dropped, as mechanization increases. So, farmers don’t keep males any more. Half breeds are not kept for breeding. In any case, the government has put so much emphasis on artificial insemination that one bull can inseminate thousands of cows.

Role of the church in politics
any Christians t o d ay s t r u g g l e with the notion of church’s involvement in socio-political and economic issues. There remains a confused section, including many young people and elders, in our own Christian Community when it particularly comes to the subject of the Church’s role in Politics. Times as we are in compels one to wonder if our churches ought to take an active part in political affairs of our State. This writer sincerely believes that the Church indeed has a role in politics, and it is the duty of our church leaders to recognize this role and play it out in the socio-political arena as and when necessary and according to the need(s) of the time. The Scripture and history clearly support the church’s place in these concerns. Daniel becomes a leader in Babylon, Amos and other prophets speak into political and social matters in Israel, Judah and the surrounding nations. Both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ himself refer to the political concerns of their day. In both the Old and New Testament God’s representatives spoke out against abuse of political power and sought just use of power. Hence participation in politics does not detract from spirituality; in fact a spirituality that is unrelated to politics is questionable. The key role the church plays/can play in politics is through its prophetic ministry. “Prophetic” here means speaking into policy, structure, or issues in the name of God and Christ, or on behalf of humanity in general or of a community in particular. This is different to the “prophetic word” that is current - different in emphasis, not better or worse. The church has a set of moral norms and it has illustrations in Scripture and in history of how these norms have been used. The prophetic role is seen in the application of relevant moral norms to the current political concerns of the day. Hence the church needs to continue engaging with gov-
ernment on justice, corruption, leadership, economic debt, education, health care, safety and security, policy, and whatever else is morally important. Further, the church needs to be saying “yes” as well as “no” to governmental promises and policies. By “no” I mean to clearly oppose wrongdoing, corruption, or anything else deemed unedifying and not benefiting society. “Yes” supports commitments to fulfilling promises made to making real efforts to curb crime, to making education truly a prime target for development, to making health care accessible and significant, to making progress in every other field without letting the scourge of corruption hold sway over honest dealings/practices. It should be reasonably clear that the church’s role in politics is an ethical one. I’m not concerned here with party politics which is often partisan, though I concede that individual Christians belonging to parties of their choice will apply ethics within the framework of their party’s policies. I consider ethics as an expression of God’s compassion for humanity: God’s desire for the best for creation. It also reflects the “image of God” in humanity. If all humanity is made in the image of God in some way or other, then humans are surely to seek the best for each other. Public leaders, then, are to work for the betterment of their communities. Such concern in our State is rare today (has it ever been really evident?). The reason is due to greed and self-centredness. And now codes of conduct are being produced in various quarters to give guidance for public morality. One cannot formulate policy or structure society without having the checks and balances to offset the pervasive and corrupting elements of selfishness. Hence law is necessary; a bill of rights is important (what about a formal bill of responsibilities?); a constitution is critical; codes of conduct become imperative. However, laws, bills of rights, codes of conduct, constitutions - including
the Bible, cannot guarantee transformation or even minimal change. There has to be a will to want to act. And this relates to hope. For people to want change, motivation is needed. Hence those ethicists that emphasise “responsibility” stress the value of integrity now, for this influences the future. So, it may be that some leaders (social, religious) who were part of the “great revival” to effect much needed change in our society are now losing their faith, because they sense no hope - or very little, for the future. This hopelessness is rooted in disillusionment in the present. For this despair to change, leaders, including political leaders, have to voluntarily impose upon themselves limits and restrictions, sacrifice more and exercise self-denial as visible examples of their commitment to the future. The future apart, in this Century, we must no longer view Church as a semiweekly activity that occurs within the confines of a physical structure with four walls and a pulpit. Instead, we must take our message of hope, justice, unity and peace to the wider community, and, yes, even to the Assembly . Real change happens when various groups –public and private, secular and religious, progressive and conservative, privileged and disadvantaged, old and young work together to achieve a common goal. Unfortunately, the coexistence of religion and government(i.e., church and state) still remains a contentious issue in many Christian states/countries. There are individuals, even leaders, regardless of their political affiliation, who attempt to drag religion into politics, and then scold the faith community for relying too heavily on government to solve social problems... problems that we, as a body of faith, have Bernard called to address through our faithi.e to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and care for the sick. Accordingly, if the church would have done its duty, there would have been less corruption and fewer corrupt political lead-
ers and bureaucrats (This does not include those corrupts with innate/acquired habit of indulging dishonest practices). P r inc ipl e d l e a d e rs guide a nation into responsible action. And it is responsible action that honours principle, enabling others to understand and appreciate it. However, recent events in our State reveal failure on the part of our leaders-social, religious and political, to usher in the much-needed changes and progress. The church could have played a pivotal role in addressing certain issues of the State, but most of the time, it has shied away from its responsibilities and focussed mainly on the holy agendas within its comfort zone. We have to speak and act, we have to engage government on moral terms, not on expediency or seeming interference. Christians in the political arena have to commit themselves to honesty and integrity in all areas of their lives to show by example that following Jesus works. The church, as institution, needs to have competent lobbyists within government structures to inform and be informed about the issues of the day. This must be seen as an investment, not a costly luxury. The Roman Catholic Church and the Council of Churches in the West have gone this route - to their great benefit. To c o n c l u d e : t h e church’s role in politics is to be there visibly in the context of political policy formulation. The church has to be prophetic, speaking for God. The church has to herald the ethical values that enrich the state/nation. The church has to be bold and forthright, constructive and innovative. The church has to be “salt and light” in what is so often a corrupt environment, to bring light and health. When the church has done its part, then the change we seek in our society and within our communities will automatically be realised and will herald a peaceful atmosphere devoid of turbulent situations. So, it is the male calves that fill most of the trucks going illegally for slaughter. India’s anti-slaughter laws do nothing to prevent cows and bulls, and male calves, from being sent to legal and illegal slaughterhouses, where they are killed for beef, veal and leather. India retains its top spot as the world’s largest exporter of beef, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and has extended its lead over the next highest exporter, Brazil. According to the data, India exported 2.4 million tonnes of beef and veal in 2015, compared to 2 million tonnes by Brazil and 1.5 million by Australia. India itself accounts for 23.5 per cent of global beef exports. This is up from a 20.8 per cent share from 2014. This is the recorded amount. Unofficially it is almost double. It is estimated that almost two million cows are smuggled, across a 2,400mile poorly-patrolled border, from India into Bangladesh every year. Inside India’s borders, people dodge the law by smuggling cows to states (Kerala, West Bengal, Arunachal, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim) where there are little or no penalties for cow slaughter. India reportedly has about 3,600 legal slaughterhouses and 50,000 illegal ones, many of which slaughter cows. Much of Indian beef finds its way to the Middle East and Europe from Kerala and Bangladesh. The trade is unbelievably barbaric and much of the money earned is by criminal gangs. According to U.P. police officers, much of the revenue
goes into guns. So how can we stop the males from being killed. May I suggest that we not produce them at all. That the animal husbandry department put its resources into sex selection. Already in the West, a lot of dairies now use gender selected semen when breeding their cows. Sexed semen is semen in which the fractions of X-bearing (female) and Y-bearing (male) sperm have been modified from the natural mix, through sorting and selection. The method works by staining sperm with a DNA-binding fluorescent dye. The bovine Ychromosome bearing sperm contain 3.8% less DNA than the X-chromosome bearing sperm. Because of the dye, the male and female sperm can be electrically charged differently and separated by a fluorescence-activated cell sorter. The method is fairly accurate, with 90% of the sperm containing the desired sex. Using this technology, farmers can breed only female calves. There is an American company that sells sexed semen to India. I took up this matter with the ministry and was told that the American firm was extremely expensive. But why is no Indian firm working on this? I would suggest that the government do two things: use its resources on sex selection in cattle, so that males are not born and killed with so much cruelty, and preserve indigenous cow breeds, rather than continuing to fixate on unsuitable exotic breeds. LH rejoinder to ‘Stop jeopardisng the framework agreement’
T
he Lotha Hoho (LH) is deeply pained to read the “Stop Jeopardising the Frame work Agreement”, in Nagaland Post dated the 8th April 2017, by one Elian Z. Lotha, and the LH is compelled to issue this Rejoinder, to him/her. The name of Elian Z. Lotha seems to be a non Lotha name, since there is no such traditional Lotha name, Elain. In his/her statement he/she has categorically stated “Naga people should know that the time is ripe to collectively seize this historic opportunity instead of jeopardising the Framework Agreement”. Elian is right in saying that the mushrooming of many NGOs and factions, is fragmenting the Naga future. The question to him/her is, “who has started the mushrooming of NGOs and factions”? Had the Naga freedom fighters been honest with each other this scenario, as he calls it, would not have been created. Does Elain know the contents of the Framework Agreement in saying “the Naga political settlement is all set to come into final stage”? Since Nagas do not know the contents of the Framework Agreement, they do not know whether to seize the opportunity or to jeopardise it. Hence will Elian Z. Lotha, who seems to know the contents of the Framework Agreement, make available the signed copies of the Framework Agreement, to the Lotha
Hoho and the Nagas, so as to decide whether to seize the opportunity or to jeopardise it? Also how do you, Elian, say that the Lotha representatives in the NTC and CNTC are not mandated? Be it known to all that all the Lotha representatives in the NTC and CNTC are all nominated and mandated by the Lotha people, through the Lotha Hoho, and the Lotha people will co operate and stand firmly behind them. Hence Elian has no authority to say that the Lotha representatives are un mandated. The Lotha Hoho is convinced that any true Lotha Naga would not have given such views as published by Elian Z. Lotha. The Lotha Hoho had taken a couple of days to enquire as to who is Elian; but could not identify him/her and since the LH has so far not identified Elian Z. Lotha, he/she is asked to personally authenticate himself/herself to the Lotha Hoho. Meanwhile all readers, particularly Lotha readers, are requested to inform the Lotha Hoho, the real identity of Elian Z. Lotha. Now the identity of Elian Z. Lotha, being unknown, the readers may take his/her press statement as “null and void”. Reader’s Post Revive for His glory Sir,
With Good Friday just a couple of days away, as Christians we need to re-awaken ourselves for the sacrifice made by the Son of God. On this Friday, let us all bow down in humble supplication and pray for Nagaland. Nagaland needs cleansing from sins and corruption and also people need to return back to God. As we re-live the suffering of Jesus who was crucified on the Cross for our sins, we really need to introspect at how Nagaland must be revived for His glory. Limatula Aier, Burma Camp Dimapur

Talking about the RK Nagar bypoll, the Minister said it is an appropriate decision taken by the Election Commission after conducting a detailed inquiry. He said the Election Commission “did the right thing” of countermanding the polls as “we have seen the brazen manner in which the money was being dis-

The senior BJP leader brushed aside charges by parties attributing political motives for the decision. “It is the decision by the Election Commission and it is a correct decision. It is wrong to attribute political motives on the decision. It is an open fact that money was being distributed. It was caught on tape,” he said. He said the Income tax authorities have done their duty and it is natural for political parties to to react in such a manner. On the opposition raising the alleged tampering of EVMs, Naidu said, “There is no tampering of EVMs, the EC has confirmed this.” He also said, “The opposition parties are trying to find excuses for their defeat.

Egypt declares 3-month state of emergency
CAIRO, APR 10 (PTI): Egypt today imposed a three-month state of emergency and ordered the military to protect vital infrastructure after the Islamic State terror group targeted two minority Coptic Christian churches in powerful bombings, killing at least 45 people and wounding more than 100 others. As Egyptians bid tearful farewell to the those who died in the terror attacks on Palm Sunday, the Egyptian government declared that the state of emergency across the country will be effective from today. Egypt’s Cabinet approved the measure -- which allows authorities to make arrests without warrants and search people’s homes -- and explained the reasons for the imposition of emergency. The Cabinet said in a statement that the state of emergency “allows both the armed forces and the police to execute those procedures necessary to combat the threats of terrorism and its financing, maintain security around the country and protect public and private property, as well as preserving the lives of citizens,” Egyptian media reported. The Cabinet’s approval came after President AbdelFattah al-Sisi in a brief television appearance last night announced the state of emergency for three months. Sisi said a top-level council for fighting terrorism and extremism will also

be set up. Before making the announcement, he had called a National Defence Council meet. Following the bombings at churches in Tanta and Alexandria cities, the government in its initial response ordered the military special forces to assist police in securing important state facilities across the country. The security forces have been put on alert in anticipation of more attacks, the media reported. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks in which the number of people killed has reached 45 after a person injured in the bombing at Tanta died. More than 100 people remained injured, according to Egyptian authorities. The first blast took place in the Coptic church of Mar Girgis, also known as St George, in the Nile delta city of Tanta, about 120 kilometres from Cairo, and killed 27 people and
injured 78, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry. Hours later, a suicide bomber struck the Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria’s Manshyia district. Citing Health Minister Ahmed Emad, ON TV news channel reported at least 18 people, including police personnel, were killed and 41 injured in the suicide attack in Alexandria. The blasts have come ahead of the visit of Pope Francis to Egypt on April 28-29, and prompted international condemnation. Al-Azhar, the world’s highest seat of Sunni Islam, called the attacks an “outrageous crime” against all Egyptians. “This terrorist attack is devoid of all the principles of humanity and civilisation,” it said in a statement. The US Embassy in Egypt condemned “the heinous, reprehensible terrorist attack against peaceful worshippers.”

JOHANNESBURG, APR 10 (AGENCIES): South Africa’s black president on Monday said many white demonstrators calling for his resignation are racist, in remarks that critics are likely to view as an effort to undercut growing concerns about his leadership. President Jacob Zuma spoke at a commemoration of an anti-apartheid leader who was assassinated in 1993, sharply criticizing multi-racial protests that were held Friday to express anger over Zuma’s dismissal of a respected finance minister last month and past scandals linked to the president. “The marches that took place last week demonstrated that racism is real and exists in our country,” Zuma said at the memorial in Boksburg, near Johannesburg. “Many placards
and posters displayed beliefs that we thought had been buried in 1994, with some posters depicting black people as baboons. It is clear that some of our white compatriots regard black people as being lesser human beings or subhuman.” The president also referred to “overt racist utterances and public displays that we saw during the marches last week.” Tens of thousands of South Africans attended the protests on Friday in major cities in the biggest show of discontent with Zuma, who has also fended off challenges to his leadership from within the ruling African National Congress party. Key allies of the ruling party, including the South African Communist Party and the country’s biggest labor group, have urged him to resign.

LUCCA (ITALY), APR 10 (AGENCIES): The United States will hold responsible anyone who commits crimes against humanity, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Monday, days after the U.S. military unexpectedly attacked Syria. Tillerson is in Italy for a meeting of foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) major industrialized nations, with his counterparts from Europe and Japan eager for clarity from Washington on numerous diplomatic issues, especially Syria. Before the April 7 missile strikes on a Syrian airbase, U.S. President Donald Trump had indicated he would be less interventionist than his predecessors and willing to overlook human rights abuses if it was in U.S. interests. But Tillerson said the United States would not let such crimes go unchallenged. “We rededicate ourselves to holding to account any and all who commit crimes against

MADRID, APR 10 (AFP): A Russian computer expert was remanded in custody in Spain today on suspicion of involvement in alleged hacking of the US presidential election campaign, a legal source said. Piotr Levachov, who was arrested on Friday, has been singled out by the United States for extradition in a request which is due to be examined by Spain’s national criminal court, the source said. Such arrests aren’t unusual — American authorities typically try to nab Russian cybercrime suspects abroad because of the difficulty involved in extraditing them from Russia — but Levashov’s arrest drew immediate attention after his wife told Russia’s RT broadcaster that he was linked to America’s 2016 election hacking.

Olivier Awards: It wasn’t all about Harry Potter H arry Potter and the Cursed Child may have cast a spell over the Olivier Awards, but it wasn’t the only topic of conversation. Here are a few other things were learned backstage and on the red carpet. It was the first time a transgender-themed play won an Olivier. Rotterdam, about a lesbian couple, one of whom wants to start living as a man, won the award for outstanding achievement in an affiliate theatre. “It’s really exciting that trans-narratives are being brought into the mainstream,” said Anna Martine Freeman, who plays the lead character of Fiona/ Adrian. “As far as we have been made aware, it is the first transgender-themed play to be nominated at an Olivier Awards.” Jon Brittain’s comedy started at fringe venue Theatre 503 and transferred to Trafalgar Studios, and will play in New York next month. “It’s come from what feels like humble beginnings and is really flying,” Anna told the BBC. “With everything going on, I’d love for Rotterdam to have a larger effect on inclusion and understanding around the world.” Sir Kenneth Branagh and Andrew Lloyd Web-
ber were among those who spoke out on stage in support of arts in education. So too did Cursed Child director John Tiffany who admitted backstage he got angry about cuts to arts subjects in state schools. “I’m doing what I’m doing because of free guitar lessons, because I had a grant to go to university... and they don’t exist anymore,” he said. “If I was graduating from high school now I certainly wouldn’t be holding this,” he added, waving his Olivier statuette. “And I’m not being dramatic!” G r o u n d h o g D a y, which won best new musical, is about to open on Broadway after its run last year at the Old Vic. “The production here was gorgeous and came after thousands of hours of grind and self-doubt,” songwriter Tim Minchin
told us. “It closed and that was always the plan, but we’ll be back here within the year,” he added. In the West End? “Certainly that’s the plan. It’ll come back before you know it.” Which all sounds a bit like the plot of Groundhog Day. “I’m in a show where the three leads are three black women - I think that’s exceptional,” said Amber Riley backstage after picking up her award for best actress in a musical. “In the theatre you want to see people who look like you sometimes,” the Dreamgirls star said. “I’m not ashamed to say I’m not necessarily the standard of what the industry may feel is beautiful or could be a star, but I’m doing it anyway because I’m making my own way.” Last year’s best actress
winner Denise Gough presented this year’s award to Billie Piper. The Irish actress will be back on stage at the National Theatre soon after her acclaimed performance in People, Places and Things - in the epic Angels in America. Tony Kushner’s twopart play is set in mid-1980s New York in the midst of the Aids crisis. Gough plays Harper Pitt in a cast that includes Andrew Garfield (her co-presenter at the Oliviers), Nathan Lane, James McArdle and Russell Tovey. “It’s the hardest job I’ve ever done,” Gough confided on the red carpet. “There were three rehearsal rooms going at one time. It’s been a big gig.” So could we be seeing Gough bag another Olivier for Angels in America? We’ll find out in 2018.

hen you step out to attend a music festival, make sure you deck up to soak in the vibe with the right look, suggest experts. Hair care brand TIGI educator Audrey D’Souza brings to you top hair styles that go well with such occasions. For a simple hairdo: * Curl your hair with a curling iron, working one-inch section. Make sure you leave about one or two inches of the ends untouched for a more natural feel. * Tie your hair into buns and let them stay so for about 30 minutes. Open them up and spot spray to keep those waves in place You’re ready to rock the look. For a pierced and braided hair style. * Part your hair from one side, with the pointed end of a teasing comb. Work the smaller section of the hair into a tight braid -- you can choose to make this a waterfall braid or a usual one. * While you work through the braid, at regular intervals clip on the rings or piercings to form a uniform pattern. Use a bobby pin to safely secure the end of the braid behind the nape of your neck, tucked under the larger section of your hair which is side-swept.

undreds of tribal Khasi men and women on Monday celebrated the “Shad Suk Mynsiem” (dance of peaceful hearts) across Meghalaya marking the harvest season and also paying obeisance to God. The dance was performed at the Weiking ground here. Young girls wore colourful exotic silk dresses and were decked in ornaments of gold and silver, while the men wore silk dhotis, waist-coats, plumed turbans and ornaments. They danced to the accompaniment of traditional music. The girls danced in the centre while the males
danced around them to represent protection for the family and the community. Being a matrilineal society, the female is the centre of the well being and progress of the family and hearth. “The ‘Shad Suk Mynsiem’ is one such celebration to show the community’s admiration for God. It is organised throughout the Khasi Hills during spring time when nature rejuvenates itself and mankind is filled with the hope of a rich harvest from the sown seeds,” said Sumar Sing Sawian, an elder of the Seng Khasi, a movement to preserve and propagate the indigenous religion and culture. The Seng Khasi’s fore-
most task during the early 1900s was to preserve this traditional dance, which began to disappear due to the oppression of the colonial rulers. In 1910, the Seng Khasi leaders decided to shift the venue from Mawkhar to a more open space to its present location at Lympung Weiking. It was on April 14 and 15, 1911 that the first “Shad Suk Mynsiem” was held at the spacious Lympung Weiking. The Seng Khasi have been able to preserve all the aspects of this dance form, including the beat of drums, cymbals and the shrill piping sound of the tangmuri (a traditional trumpet).

New man Axar Patel (9) too didn’t stay longer as after hitting a six off Iqbal Abdulla, he was flummoxed by Yuzvendra Chahal with a googly and ended up being clean bowled in the ninth over. However, other opener Vishnu Vinod (7) also tried to get into the act in the next over off Sandeep Sharma but he was cramped for room and ended up giving a simple catch to Maxwell at the long-on boundary. In the 16th over, de Villiers slammed Aaron over mid-off to pick up his second six off the innings. The South African then smashed Marcus Stoinis over deep midwicket twice in the next over to bring up his fifty. Mohit then bowled four good balls in the last over before the South African ended the innings with two lusty blows. Today’s match Time: 8:00 pm Rising Pune Supergiants vs Delhi Daredevils
