PM sets India’s 2070 zero carbon emission target
GLASGOW, NOV 1 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a bold pledge that India will achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070 and asserted that it is the only country that is delivering in “letter and spirit” the commitments on tackling climate change under the Paris Agreement. Addressing the world leaders at the ‘High-Level Segment for Heads of States and Government’ at the UN COP26 underway at Glasgow, Prime Minister Modi said India is working hard in fighting climate change and it will show results. Modi also said that India is putting climate change at centre of its policies and stressed on the need to include climate adaptation policies in school syllabus to make the next generation aware of the issues. Presenting the country’s national statement at

the Summit, Modi listed out five commitments of India to combat climate change with a bold announcement that it will achieve the target of net zero emissions by the year 2070. He also raised the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) of achieving 450 giga watt non-fossil energy capacity to 500 giga watt. Modi also called for lifestyle changes which can go a long way in tackling climate change and urged to make ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ a global mission. Modi reiterated that devel-
oped nations must fulfil the promised USD 1 trillion as climate finance, saying this should be tracked the same way as climate mitigation. He said that India is moving forward with great deal of courage and ambition on the subject of climate and it understands the pain of other developing nations. Sharing his sentiment about the conference on climate change in Paris in 2015, Modi said that it was not India but 1.25 billion Indians who were making promises to themselves. The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty on climate change. It was adopted by 196 Parties at COP 21 in Paris, in December 2015. India, the world’s third-biggest emitter with 1.96 tons per capita carbon emission, below China and USA which account for 8.4 tonnes and 18.6 tonnes emissions respectively.

Petrol, diesel NTC on Nagaland vis-à-vis Naga solution prices hiked for 6th consecutive day SPELLS OUT STAND ON VARIOUS ISSUES ON REHABILITATION, PNH & NSDZ DIMAPUR, NOV 1 (NPN): Fuel prices continue to burn a hole in the pocket of the common man as state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased the rates of petrol and diesel for the sixth consecutive day on Monday. According to a price notification of OMCs, prices of petrol and diesel were increased by 35 paise per litre each pushing pump rates to new high across the country. After the latest rate revision, Petrol price has breached the Rs.110-a-litre mark in eight districts of Nagaland while diesel price has also crossed Rs.100mark in all the districts. Since September 5, when both petrol and diesel prices were revised, the price of petrol and diesel in the international market was higher by around $9-10 per barrel as compared to average prices during August. Commercial LPG rates hiked: State-owned OMCs on Monday increased the rates of the 19 kg commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 266 with immediate effect. However, there was no change in rates of domestic LPG cylinders.
DIMAPUR, NOV 1 (NPN): Rising People’s Party (RPP) said it was amused at government sources blaming the party for their own lack of responsibility regarding shortage of staff in Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department. Accusing the department of being incompetent, RPP asked the H&FW department to concentrate on regaining its lost credibility. RPP said that citing acute shortage of funds seemed to be an admission of misappropriation of funds by the department itself. RPP said that if there was no misappropriation, then the department should furnish itemised expenditure (Cont’d on p-8) lists with regard to the state
dition, he said there was a provision of Rs 53.77 crore under ECRP-II for health infrastructure strengthening and Covid-19 preparedness. Further claiming that there was adequate availability of drugs, oxygen and other inputs required for treatment of Covid-19 patients, the joint secretary said availability of all materials was regularly reviewed for timely action by the department. Mentioning that there was a temporary shortfall of RAT kits that was promptly addressed, he said 7,300 RAT kits were currently available in stock.
D I M A P U R , N OV 1 (NPN): Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) expressed appreciation for the decisiveness of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in making it possible for the exhaustive exercises in time, energy and sacrifices in the dialogues between the government of India and Naga negotiators to culminate in October 31,2019 with Agreed Points for settlement after “considering unresolved matters shall be pursued through democratic political process post-solution.” This was contained in a statement issued by its president Toniho Yepthomi and general secretary Nribemo Ngullie. In the light of expected solution to the Naga political issue, NTC said from past precedence, people of
Nagaland are apprehensive that the government of India “may like to appease the negotiators with land that belongs to private landowners of Nagaland”. Therefore, in this regard, NTC reiterated “we are not ready to part with even an inch of our land for pacification purpose.” NTC reiterated that while it stood for integration but so long as the integration of all Naga contiguous areas was not possible and territorial integrity of the neighbouring states remaining protected, then the same yardstick be used to protect the territorial integrity of the State of Nagaland. NTC reaffirmed that “Nagas of Nagaland cannot accept only population integration” and maintained that rights of own-
ership be respected where neither the government of India or Nagaland force the indigenous landowners to accommodate outsiders without integration of all Naga contiguous areas. NTC also expressed apprehension over the proposal for a cultural organisation under the aegis of Pan Naga Hoho (PNH) whose formation and funding the government of India might likely approve. NTC further said as the proposed PNH would deal with tradition, culture and religious matters of Nagas, it pointed out that Article 371A under the Indian constitution comprehensively covered its legal jurisdiction to Nagaland state. It also opined, that in the event the government of India went ahead with
the proposed PNH and power to access aspects under Article 371A, it would create sufficient room for collisions and undue encroachment on the basic rights of Nagas of Nagaland in particular. In such a event, NTC maintained that the headquarter of the proposed PNH should not be located within the state of Nagaland. NTC opined that the Intangki forest which was declared as National Park of Nagaland in 1993 covers 202.2 Kms. However the state government’s “imaginary area in the name of Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) stretching across foothill valleys from Dimapur to Tizit” would spell disaster if these lands were to be sacrificed for rehabilitation purposes. NGBF maintained that there were “some facts or reasons” which were “beyond the measures of criteria.” The federation stated that the demand for Tseminyu district was “based on historical documentation since 1866, therefore their contributions and genuineness must be respected by the Naga people.” NGBF has, therefore, hoped that the state government would upgrade Tseminyu to district headquarters without delay.

NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2021
Members of NSLSA along with speakers at the legal awareness programme.
DIMAPUR: Judge, Gauhati High Court and executive chairman, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) justice Songkhupchung Serto said that 70% of the problems of tribal communities or villagers would be solved if they were empowered about their rights and entitlements “especially pertaining to the three sectors under education, food, and health schemes.” He was addressing a gathering of villagers in Longleng on October 30
where a legal awareness programme was organised as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”-Pan India awareness and legal services week. While NSLSA has taken up four schemes- Right to Education Act, 2019, National Food Security Act, 2013, and schemes under health and social welfare on priority for rendering state-wide awareness for two years starting from 2020 under the initiative of the executive chairman, the judge viewed that “if people
learnt and received awareness about these priority topics, 70% of the problems would be solved.” When we have food, we have education and health, he further stated. Speaking on right to education, Serto stated that the government has given us the right under Article 21 (A) of the constitution of India which was not just the right to life but the right to live with dignity. “So to have life with dignity, one must be educated,” he commented and
added that the government with that realisation amended Article 21 and added Article 21 (A). “When our children is assured free education till Class 8, the government is taking care of our children for many years and the money one would have spent for up to class 8 can later be used to send our children to good colleges” the judge said. He also appealed to the people to send children to government schools without paying fees along with free school uniforms. Speaking of empowerment, the justice also highlighted the legal services authority office in the district court, which has been set up to cater and assist the villagers. While citing a grave example of few children in a village who seemed to be deprived of formal education because their teachers from Dimapur and Kohima did not attend the school, he questioned on how these Christian teachers drew salary without service. He therefore appealed all to be responsible for their community; to be in their villages; educate the children
and enjoy their produce and fellowship of togetherness. Meanwhile, principal secretary, law and justice department, R. Ramakrishnan while noting that people in rural areas were not aware of their rights said that they have to utilise the different system prevalent, be it customary law or the judicial system to benefit everyone equally. Among a host of legal awareness topics taken up, panel lawyer Panglang Y Phom spoke on Right to Education Act, 2019; panel lawyer Chingmei Phom on National Food Security Act, 2013; panel lawyer P Monyei Phom on pension schemes under the social welfare department and Lok Adalat and panel lawyer A Mane Phom on Right to Information act, 2005. Orgns condemn raid carried out by Assam Rifles IDUD 2021 observed in Kohima, Peren DIMAPUR: Various organization have condemned the raid carried out by Assam Rifles at the private residence of Roko Angami on the wee hours of October 29. ASU: Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has condemned the action perpetrated by Assam Rifles, which it said not only shocked and traumatised Roko Angami and families but the whole Nagas. ASU president Bisevi Nakhro and general secretary Mhalevilie Medoze said it was evident that the Assam Rifles had “clearly sent the message to abruptly disturb the peace and tranquility in Naga homeland and expose their intention of exercising the draconian laws.” The union wondered as to how the common citizens would safety exist if a reputed sports personality and a leader like Roko Angami was not spared and safe from the brutality of the armed forces. He stated that the day was a global event where communities from various diverse backgrounds including stakeholders come together to celebrate the accomplishments and to deliberate for better interventions and strategies to address the issues
surrounding drug use, and to acknowledge that the work is much more critical than before. Relocation of Sweeper’s Colony residents in phase-wise manner: Conrad Correspondent S H I L LO N G, N OV 1 : Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Monday reiterated that the residents of the Sweeper’s Lane Colony would be relocated to government designated accommodations in a phasewise manner. However, the Dalit or Mazhabi Sikhs on Monday also asserted that they would “give up their lives rather than being evicted” from the Sweeper’s Colony, adjoining Ïewduh, the biggest market in the State. “We have already made the whole aspect clear to the people that there are phases to this entire process and entire process will be done in a phase wise manner. The first phase will be
the land ownership and that has been done now. The second phase will be the shifting of the municipal office, third phase will be shifting of the government employees whether municipal or others completely into the designated locations, which are very good locations that they are being given,” Sangma told journalists after a cabinet meeting. “Finally we will go into the phase where we will find an amicable manner in which we will be able to ask the others or relocate the other people but that is a process as I said we will see and move as it goes along,” Sangma said, adding that the government was making its moves based on the decisions of the high
strophic out-of-pocket costs for poor families. As a key strategy, the project will move towards a performance-based financing system where Internal Performance Agreements (IPAs) between the DoHFW and its subsidiaries would foster more accountability at all levels. This is expected to go a long way in improving the management of the system to deliver quality health services. The project will also focus on promoting synergy between various schemes and augment the capacity of the state insurance agency. “The project will invest in infection prevention and control for a more resilient response to future outbreaks,
pandemics, and health emergencies,” it added. Improved health services may also lead to an incremental increase in biomedical waste. Any improper management of wastes including bio-medical waste and other hazardous wastes such as plastic waste and ewaste poses environmental risks. “The project will invest in improving the overall ecosystem for bio-medical waste management (both solid and liquid waste). It will include segregation, disinfection, and collection while safeguarding the environment and improving the quality of health service and patient safety,” the Finance Ministry further said.

Priyanka Gandhi a ‘storm’ that will help Congress sweep UP polls: Lallu
LUCKNOW, NOV 1 (PTI): The Congress would go to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections without a CM face but will fight under the watch of general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, whom the state party chief Ajay Kumar Lallu described as a “storm” that will help sweep the polls. Lallu said the way Priyanka Gandhi is raising various issues in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government is feeling threatened by her. However, Lallu refused to predict the number of seats the party is targeting to win, but claimed that they would come to power with full majority. Congress had won only seven seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly in the 2017 polls. “There is a current (of the party) on the ground. The way in which organisational work has been done in the party, and the way in which a team built, the result is that today we are capable of doing anything,” Lallu, president of the Uttar Pradesh
Ajay Kumar Lallu
Congress Committee (UPCC) told PTI in an interview. “We are demonstrating this organisational strength again and again. The notion that we are nothing in UP has changed. There is a storm in UP and its name is Priyanka Gandhi,” Lallu said. “It will help Congress sweep the upcoming polls,” he added. Asked why the party has not declared its chief minister candidate, he said, “The CM face is decided by the party’s national leadership. But the in-charge of UP is Priyanka ji and the elections will be contested under her watch”. “We are going to form
the government with full majority,” he said. The AICC general secretary tasked with regaining the party’s lost ground in the political heartland, however, was non-committal about contesting the upcoming state polls herself. “It has not been decided as yet,” she said earlier this month in response to a question on the possibility of her contesting the polls. Reacting to Priyanka Gandhi being dubbed as a “political tourist” by the BJP, Lallu said, “Be it Priyanka ji or our party workers, ever ybody is targeted. In the last three months, Congress workers have faced lathis and gone to jail. The government has adopted a path of oppression against us.” “But I think that the way in which Priyanka ji has raised the issues of women safety, farmers and unemployment, it has given new energy to the Congress. The government is feeling completely afraid, and hence resorting to such acts,” he claimed.
NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (PTI): A Delhi court on Monday sought response from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy and others on a plea filed by former chief secretary Anshu Prakash challenging their discharge in a case of allegedly assaulting him in 2018. Special Judge Geetanjali Goel issued n o t i c e t o Ke j r i wa l , Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and 9 others on the plea challenging an order that discharged the politicians on August 11. The criminal case relates to the alleged assault on Prakash during a meeting at Ke j r i w a l ’s o f f i c i a l residence on February 19, 2018 and besides the politicians were made accused in the case. The court directed the Kejriwal, Sisodia and other AAP MLAs -- Rajesh Rishi, Nitin Tyagi, Praveen Kumar, Ajay Dutt, Sanjeev Jha, Rituraj Govind, Rajesh Gupta, Madan Lal, and Dinesh Mohania -- to file their reply by November
23, when the court will further hear the matter. Besides 11, the court also issued notice to AAP MLAs Amantullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal against whom the court had ordered framing of the charges. Senior advocate Sidharth Luthra and advocate Kumar Vaibhav, appearing for Anshu Prakash, submitted before the judge that the magisterial court erred in discharging Kejriwal and others in its August order. Anshu Prakash also sought the framing of additional charges including 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC against Khan and Jarwal. Kejriwal, Sisodia and nine other AAP MLAs were granted bail in October 2018. Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal were granted bail earlier by the high court. The alleged assault had triggered a bitter tussle between the Delhi gover nment and its bureaucrats.
G H A Z I A B A D, N OV 1 (PTI): Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Monday said the Centre has time till November 26 to repeal its contentious farm laws, after which farmers’ protest around Delhi will be intensified. November 26 will mark one year of the ongoing farmers’ stir at Delhi’s border points of Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur. The protest is being led by farmers collective Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). T h e B K U, w h o s e supporters are encamping at Ghazipur on the DelhiUttar Pradesh border, is also a part of the SKM. “The central government has time till November 26, after that, from November 27, farmers will reach the border at the movement sites around Delhi on tractors from villages and strengthen the tents at the movement site with solid fortifications,” Tikait, the BKU national spokesperson, tweeted in Hindi. BKU spokesperson Saurabh Upadhyay said the
Rakesh Tikait
protest against the “black laws” will not be called off until the laws are not rolled back. “ T h e M o d i government can take the laws back today and the protest will end. They can continue for another 10 years but if the laws are not repealed and a legal guarantee on MSP ensured, the protest would go on,” he told PTI as scores of people remained pitched in at Ghazipur in temporary shelters on Monday. The Delhi Police had on Friday started removing barricades and concertina wirings it had put at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (National Highway-9) at Ghazipur to keep protesters from moving towards the
national capital. The Supreme Court on October 21 had said farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the three farms laws have the right to agitate but they cannot block roads indefinitely. Hundreds of farmers are encamped at the three Delhi borders since November 2020 with the demand that the gover nment repeal the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Far mers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. They are also demanding a new law to guarantee the minimum support price (MSP) for crops. The Centre, which held 11 rounds of formal dialogue with farmers, has maintained that the new laws are pro-farmer, while protesters claim they would be left at the mercy of corporations because of the legislations.

PDP claims Mehbooba placed under house arrest S R I NAG A R , N OV 1 (PTI): PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday put under house arrest to prevent her from visiting Anantnag to meet the family of a youth who was killed in cross-firing between security forces and militants last week, a party leader claimed. The Peoples Democratic Party leader claimed that the police have locked the main gate of Mehbooba’s house. A police official said the PDP chief was not allowed to visit Anantnag due to security reasons. Shahid Ahmad was killed in an exchange of fire between CRPF personnel and militants in Shopian district on October 24, according to police. Mufti was put under house arrest at her Fairview residence in Gupkar locality of the city here and not allowed to move out, the PDP leader claimed. She was to visit the family of slain youth Shahid Ahmad in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. She wanted to offer her condolences to the bereaved family, but was not allowed to move out of her residence, the party leader said.

S o f a r t h i s ye a r, six fatalities have been recorded in the national capital due to the mosquito-borne disease, while the number of cases has climbed to over 1,530, according to a civic report released on Monday. Highlighting the urgency of intervention, the minister pointed out that many poor people are affected by dengue in which low platelet count weakens a patient, the health ministry said in the statement. “Primary health care centres may prescribe a n t i - py r e t i c d r u g s t o suppress the symptoms without addressing the

root cause, which may lead to eventual demise of the patient. Since testing is the most important step to identifying dengue, these deaths will not be reported as such and the incidence will continue to be underreported,” Mandaviya said. He directed officials to ramp up testing so that all
cases of the vector-borne disease are reported and treated properly. The minister also stressed on the need for effective coordination between the Centre and states, and observed that some hospitals are overburdened with dengue cases while beds continue to be empty in others, the statement said. E f f e c t i v e communication between all stakeholders was thus suggested as the way forward, it said. The health minister asked officials in Delhi to look into the possibility of repurposing COVID-19 beds to treat dengue patients.

Cricket-crazy nation
C
ricket is a craze among India’s 1.3 billion people and no game takes the form of a war of sorts than when India plays its foe, Pakistan. Both India and Pakistan are passionate cricket nations and their rivalry is touted as one of the greatest sports rivalries in the world. However, their cricket matches are interlaid with political meaning. The Modi government, which has chosen the path of hyper nationalism (vis-àvis Pakistan) and has changed the narrative from secularism to terrorism. Both India and Pakistan are perpetually in a state of undeclared war except for the very rare occasion when they did seriously try to improve relations during the governments of Vajpayee and Dr.Manmohan Singh. The diplomacy did not end the fierce cricket rivalry. Cricket is the only “international” game in which both countries are among the top 20. Both India and Pakistan are also rivals in Hockey but since their dominance over the game was long over, it doesn’t elicit the emotions it did till the seventies. Today, India is ranked second in ICC T20 ahead of fourth placed Pakistan in a table that is led by England. In the One Day International (ODI) India is ranked fourth, ahead of sixth-ranked Pakistan and behind leaders New Zealand.Indian cricket has been rising to dizzying heights especially with the success of the Indian IPL. Without mentioning cricket, Indian sports would be incomplete. It is not just a sport in India, but a part of the national culture and tradition. The craze for cricket is negative. Even Sunil Chetri, the captain of the Indian football team had to request Indians to come to watch their match against Kenya. Chetri was reacting to the low turnout at international football tournaments where India was among the competitors. Football is more widespread in India but it has not received the kind of financial support like IPL. Whenever the victorious Indian Cricket team members arrive, they are greeted like heroes and treated no less than Bollywood celebrities. Indian cricketers are overrated by TV commentators and whether this has to do with TPR is a matter of debate. Their performances are marked by inconsistencies, regularly swinging from highs to lows. India watched in shock and disbelief when The Men in Blue faced a humiliating loss to arch-rivals Pakistan by a margin of 10 wickets. This was the first time that Pakistan won a T20I fixture by 10 wickets and India lost a T20I by 10 wickets. This was also the first time that Pakistan managed to beat India in a World Cup match of the T20 World Cup history. Pakistan has never beaten India in ODI or T20 matches. For both India and Pakistan victory against each, means more than winning any tournament. India are on the brink of getting knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup after suffering a second humiliating 8-wicket defeat against New Zealand in their Super 12 Group 2 match in Dubai on October 31. These two humiliating defeats have exposed Indian cricket to the bone. The IPL has rocketed Indian cricket beyond the financial realms of other nations but it has also made Indian cricketers like mercenaries for money. Probably too much cricket has undone the Men In Blue who should now be feeling terribly very blue.
DailyDevotion “You Are Not Your Own” Do you not know that…you are not your own? —1 Corinthians 6:19 There is no such thing as a private life, or a place to hide in this world, for a man or woman who is intimately aware of and shares in the sufferings of Jesus Christ. God divides the private life of His saints and makes it a highway for the world on one hand and for Himself on the other. No human being can stand that unless he is identified with Jesus Christ. We are not sanctified for ourselves. We are called into intimacy with the gospel, and things happen that appear to have nothing to do with us. But God is getting us into fellowship with Himself. Let Him have His way. If you refuse, you will be of no value to God in His redemptive work in the world, but will be a hindrance and a stumbling block. The first thing God does is get us grounded on strong reality and truth. He does this until our cares for ourselves individually have been brought into submission to His way for the purpose of His redemption. Why shouldn’t we experience heartbreak? Through those doorways God is opening up ways of fellowship with His Son. Most of us collapse at the first grip of pain. We sit down at the door of God’s purpose and enter a slow death through self-pity. And all the so-called Christian sympathy of others helps us to our deathbed. But God will not. He comes with the grip of the pierced hand of His Son, as if to say, “Enter into fellowship with Me; arise and shine.” If God can accomplish His purposes in this world through a broken heart, then why not thank Him for breaking yours?

NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2021
T
NTC reiterates stand on acceptable solution
he Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) in its Executive Council and Advisors meeting held at Kohima on 30th Oct/2021 resolved to reaffirm its earlier stands on the impending settlement post solution to the vexed Naga Political issue. The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) appreciates the decisiveness of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi without whose determination to bring the political negotiation between the GOI and the Naga Negotiators to fruition; all what has so far being developed today would never have been possible. That with much exhaustive exercise in terms of time, energy, and sacrifices, dialogue between GOI and the NPGs had been culminated on “31st October 2019” with agreed points for settlement, considering “all unresolved matters shall be pursued through democratic political process post-solution”. The NTC urge upon the GOI to bring the protracted Naga Political issue to a logical conclusion on the basis of the agreed points concluded on 31st October 2019 that is honourable and acceptable without delay. That having learned from the past precedence
the people of Nagaland is apprehensive that the GOI may like to appease the negotiators with land that belongs to the private landowners in Nagaland. Should such be the arrangement we are making our stand very clear for the sake of safe transaction post solution that we are not ready to part even an inch of our land for pacification purpose. The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) stands on integration but so long as the integration of all Naga contiguous areas is not possible, and that the territorial integrity of the neighbouring states are protected, so also with the same yardstick the territorial integrity of the State of Nagaland should be protected. The Nagas of Nagaland cannot accept only population integration. Rights of ownership is utmost important and must be respected and that neither GOI nor the Government of Nagaland should force the indigenous landowners to accommodate outsiders in our land without integration of all Naga contiguous areas. In this connection the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) reiterates its adopted stand that if the territorial and land integration is not possible at the moment, we cannot opt
for population integration. That while waiting impatiently for the outcome of the process of Political Solution, the NTC is also apprehensive about the proposed cultural organization under the aegis of Pan Naga Hoho (PNH) for which GOI may like to approve both of its formation and its funding. As learnt the objective of PNH relates to tradition, culture and religious matters of the Nagas. In the light of this backdrop, it is imperative to point out that the Art 371A of the Constitution of India comprehensively covers the aforementioned characteristics with legal insulation from any outside interferences for the state of Nagaland. Whereas, the establishment of any parallel authority with the power of access to those aspects under Art 371A of the Constitution of India by GOI will definitely create sufficient rooms for collisions and undue encroachment on the basic rights of Nagas of Nagaland in particular. In the event that should there be PNH “, the HQ of the PAN (PNH) should not be within the State of Nagaland”. Nagaland is privileged to have a major Natural Diversity Hot-Spot of Tropi-
cal Vegetation in Asia with Intangki as one of the most important National Park of Nagaland, established in 1993 having coverage of 202.02 KMs. “Intangki is a National Park”. The Nagaland Govt has another imaginary area in the name of Nagaland Special Development Zones (NSDZ) in the foothill valleys from Dimapur to Tizit “without any blueprint project report” with the intention to relax BEFR Act 1873/ILP in these areas with the best reason known to the authority alone. It will be disastrous to sacrifice for rehabilitation purposes in the above mentioned lands and that neither GOI nor the Government of Nagaland should force the indigenous landowners to accommodate outsiders in these lands of ours without integration of all Naga contiguous areas. That the State of Nagaland has the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee comprising of 60 State Legislatures and Two Members of Parliament to facilitate the Naga peace talks. On top of it all elected Legislature Political Parties in the State are united and have formed Opposition-less government popularly known as United
Democratic Alliance (UDA). All these have been possible to play an active role/part as facilitator for Naga peace talks to bring it through for settlement on the protracted Naga Political issue at the earliest. In the recent News report appearing in the regional print media dated 25th October 2021 it says, quote: “Government of Nagaland agreeing to rehabilitate those from outside Nagaland within the state and expecting increased Parliamentary and assembly seats besides a hefty financial package”, Unquote. The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) urge upon all the political parties in the State as well as the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee to come out with clear view of their party/Core Committee commitment on the rehabilitation issue for further consideration of the stake holders/indigenous people of Nagaland. The Nagas have suffered enough due to political turmoil for years together, and that Nagas deserve to live in peace now. The NPGs have also been under ceasefire for more than two decades. Physiotherapy in pregnancy antenatal (before birth) and post-natal (after childbirth)
P
regnancy and childbirth are challenging events for a woman’s body. When you are pregnant and after you have given birth, as a whole you need extra care. Changing hormone level causing supporting ligaments to soften and become more stretchy during pregnancy and for up to six months after birth. Your tummy and your pelvic floor muscles stretch with the growth and the birth of your baby. During this period women often struggle with pain and discomfort in the back and in their pelvic joints. Physical changes There are multiple physical changes to women’s body as related to pregnancy. During the process of pregnancy, the body goes through major changes-the posture & the way the body move change, the weight going through the joints increases, the muscles, ligaments & soft tissue gets more flexible & elastic. Also, some of the Musculoskeletal changes includes stretching of the abdominal muscles, decrease in ligamentous tensile strength, hypermobility of joints due to ligamentous laxity, pelvic floor drops as much as 2.5 cm. Mechanical changes include increase in cervical & lumbar lordosis, shoulder girdle becomes rounded, knee hyperextension, scapular protraction, upper limb internal rotation. Also, change in balance is seen as the patient walks with wider Base of support. With all these changes during pregnancy, pregnant women experience many issues. Some of the following common issues are experienced during Antenatal period (before childbirth) include upper back pain, neck & shoulder pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, pelvic girdle pain, bladder issues. Postnatal period (begins immediately after childbirth) include pelvic floor pain, diastasis recti, lower back pain, urinary incontinence, sciatica among others. Post partum C- Section: After a caesarean section delivery, there are concerns that need to be handed by a Physiotherapist namely- post surgical pain & discomfort, development of adhesion at incision site, faulty posture, pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary or faecal incontinence, organ prolapse, abdominal weakness, diastasis recti, general functional restrictions. PHYSIOTHERAPY DURING PREGNANCY AND AFTER CHILDBIRTH During pregnancy physiotherapist will help you by: • Prescribing safe exercises and advice for you to stay fit and healthy • Teaching you about posture and strategies that may help you to reduce the risk of strain and discomfort on your lower back and pelvic joints during pregnancy • Treating and preventing low back pain or pelvic girdle
pain
• Teaching you about the pelvic floor muscles and how to do pelvic floor exercises • Giving you advice on how to rest comfortably as well as on how to overcome some other pregnancy-related minor problems • Preparing your pelvic floor for labour and teaching you about perineal massage and other strategies • Giving you advice on posture and active strategies for pain management during labour. After childbirth you can see a physiotherapist to have an abdominal and pelvic floor muscle assessment. This can be done from 6 weeks postpartum onwards. The six-week postpartum check is recommended for the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles and abdominal area postpartum. This is especially important not only for the women who have symptoms but also for the women who want to return to exercise safely. In this postpartum check your physiotherapist will be able to help you by: • Giving you advice on how to recover after childbirth (whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section) • Assessing your posture, breathing, abdominal muscles gap (diastasis rectus abdominis) and pelvic floor muscle function • Creating an exercise plan to rehabilitate your pelvic floor muscles and your abdominal muscles • Giving you advice on how to exercise safely in the postpartum • Treating any symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction that may have arisen from childbirth • Teaching you about bladder, bowel and sexual health and improve your pelvic health. For most women receiving advice alone is not enough. Evidence shows that a big percentage of women fail to perform pelvic floor exercises correctly without being formally trained and without supervision. Here’s how Physiotherapy deals with some common complaints experienced by women during pregnancy. 1) Low back Pain: The most common condition experienced during pregnancy is low back pain, which increases after the third trimester as the centre of gravity shifts due to stomach size. This can be treated with manual and passive Physiotherapy, back support, postural education and some pilates exercises. 2) Pain in the sacroiliac joint: These joints are present in the lowest region of the lower back. This pain is usually concentrated in the buttock region. During pregnancy, due to excessive hormone release, the body s connective tissues tend to relax so that the muscles can stretch to aid in delivery. This may cause the sacroiliac muscles and ligaments to become more mobile, causing extreme joint
movements. 3) Urinary incontinence (due to pelvic floor weakness): Due to hormonal changes, the muscles of the pelvic floor relax to make it supple and ready for delivery. Therefore, these muscles can weaken and strain during pregnancy and childbirth, which leads to urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Physiotherapists help you in strengthening the Pelvic floor muscles with strengthening exercises and a Pilates-based exercise program also help reduce muscle weakness that may occur after childbirth. 4) Sciatica: Continuous pressure or strain on the sciatic nerve can lead to backache and weakness, numbness and tingling in the leg or associated areas. Physiotherapy uses stretching exercises and manual therapy to relieve you of these symptoms. 5) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: The build-up of excessive fluid results in swelling in the carpal tunnel in the wrist. You may experience symptoms like pain, numbness, tingling and lots of coordination in your hands and fingers. Physiotherapy techniques such as mobilization, strengthening exercises, stretching and the use of electric modalities help reduce these symptoms It is important to practice physiotherapy in pregnancy, but it is even more important to do the exercise safely. Role of Physiotherapy in Antenatal and Postnatal Care Physiotherapy being a multidisciplinary approach not only evaluates diagnoses and treats disorders or diseases but also holds a significant role to improve quality of life by addressing each and every aspect and providing primary healthcare to all age groups and genders. When it comes to women’s health, physical therapist/physiotherapist specialized in gynaecology and obstetrics are highly consecrated for effectively providing both antenatal and postnatal care in order to avoid complications during and after childbirth. Physiotherapists help prevent physical and emotional stresses encountered during pregnancy and labour by improving mother’s overall physical fitness and educating her about physiological changes occurring in her body during pregnancy. Pregnancy care consists of two phases, antenatal (before birth) and postnatal (after birth). Routine antenatal care is provided under ‘early bird classes’ to prepare the partners for parenthood. Corresponding to physical therapist role in antenatal care is to prevent postural disorders susceptible to develop due to weight and hormonal changes and to ergonomically educate them about back care while sitting, standing, bending, lifting and driving. To maintain abdominal muscles strength, correct posture and relieve back pain, pelvic tilting exercises and pelvic floor muscle training can
be helpful. Moreover pelvic floor muscles strengthening are highly advantageous to prevent stress/ urinary incontinence, genital prolapsed and sexual dysfunction. Some simple exercises are recommended to improve circulation and reduce oedema in lower extremities like frequent ankle pumps. Cramps, commonly occurring in calf muscles, can be prevented by regular ankle exercises, calf stretches, pre bedtime walk and avoiding prolonged sitting. Stress management is very crucial because it may lead the body to adopt posture of tension. Along with other maneuvers to relieve stress, physiotherapist can play his/her role by teaching the client ‘Michelle method of neuromuscular control’. Contrast method is also about recognition between tension and relaxation in muscles. Imagery, touch, massage and breathing exercises all are devised for stress management during antenatal period. Role of physiotherapy cannot be underestimated in recovery period after childbirth also called postnatal period/ postpartum. The body even starts returning to normal but muscular and ligamentous laxity yet exists to some extent predisposing the women to suffer diastasis rectii, pelvic floor weakness leading to urinary incontinence and organ prolapse. Gynaecological physiotherapist should examine and assess at least after 6 weeks of child birth. After picking up the real concerns, Physiotherapist will begin exercise program which is particularized for neuromuscular, ergonomic and rehabilitative care according to need of clients. Pain management (electrotherapeutic) and pelvic floor strengthening exercises remain the most valuable intervention during postpartum. Some breathing and circulatory exercises are also encouraged to reduce oedema, release stress and improve cardiopulmonary fitness. To sum up, physiotherapist has significant role in monitoring, assessing and treating special concerns during and after pregnancy. The goal of women’s health physiotherapy is to support women as well as possible by helping preparing their bodies for pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Physiotherapy will not only help prevent or ease distress in context with aches, pains & incontinence but will also give more information on how to look after yourself & about what things you need to be careful of, educating on correct positioning or ergonomics on breast feeding and handling the house-hold chores even while looking after your baby. settlement of protracted Naga Political issue has been culminated and now awaits the time for signing the agreement. Yet the Nagas remain wanting for peace since we do not enjoy real peace in the prevailing situation. The main reason behind the issue is that the Political solution to the vexed Naga Political issue that is honourable and acceptable, has not been achieved and that is the anxiety of the negotiating parties for Naga Peace talks as well as the stake holders/ indigenous people of Nagaland. Until then the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) appeals to the NPGs to restrains from all forms of provocative act that is detrimental to the hard earned peace in the land. Further the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) appeals to all members of NPGs against forming of new faction, or defection(s). As and when Naga attains sovereignty and integration there will be demographic changes, till then the State of Nagaland will remain as it is than cease to exist. President NTC Toniho Yepthomi, General Secretary NTC, Nribemo Ngullie
Neurocysticercosis: a neglected tropical disease
N
eurocysticercosis is a parasitic disease in the central nervous system that causes cysts containing parasitic larvae of the pork tapeworm to form in the brain. It is a major cause of acquired epilepsy in most low-income countries and is becoming prevalent in high-income countries because of increased migration and travel. The disease is caused by the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. Humans get the parasite by ingesting the parasite’s microscopic eggs spread by someone with an intestinal pork tapeworm or by drinking contaminated water. If someone eats undercooked pork that is infected, they get infected with a tapeworm in their intestines and if they observe poor hygiene habits and cook food, the microscopic eggs pass from their hands into the food that others consume. Those eggs then become larvae in the body when gastric acid in the stomach degrades their protective covering and start to invade the local tissues to form cysts. If the larvae succeed to enter the muscles, eyes and skin, they cause cysticercosis which is cysts in normal body tissue and if they enter the central nervous system, they cause neurocysticercosis — the most severe form of the disease. Neurocysticercosis is most commonly first seen in seizures or headaches. Seizures typically the first-seen symptom for about 70 to 90 percent of acute cases diagnosed, caused by active cysts in the brain. Headaches can signal increased pressure inside the skull, fluid buildup, or inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. A small percentage of those affected will also develop abnormalities in their gait, visual ability or mental states. The symptoms for each case vary depending on how the cysts progress, either degenerating or calcifying where they are located, and also depending on where in the brain the cysts develop. To diagnose neurocysticercosis, neuroimaging and serological assessment has greatly improved over the past decade. Brain imaging is used to view the location of the cysts as well as to determine which type each cyst is, because everything affects how the patient is treated. MRIs provide the most accurate image of the brain’s anatomy and show the cysts clearly, but a CT scan more clearly depicts calcified cysts. A doctor may also use an antibody-specific blood test to support the neuro-imaging results. Treatment of neurocysticercosis requires a different combination depending on the severity of the symptoms shown and the stages of the cysts present in the body. Possible treatment measures include anti-epileptic drugs to control the seizures, surgical procedures to remove the cysts and anti-inflammatory drugs such as corticosteroids to control inflammation of the brain and anthelmintic medications, which kill the parasite in the body to get them out without causing much damage to the infected host. The dosage and the duration of treatment can vary greatly and depend mainly on the number, size, location and developmental stage of the cysts, their surrounding inflammatory edema, acuteness and severity of clinical symptoms or signs. Risk factors for acquiring neurocysticercosis is among the people who either have a pork tapeworm infection (this is called autoinfection), live in a household with someone who has a pork tapeworm or eat food made by someone with a pork tapeworm infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that worldwide 50 million people get affected by the disease and that 50,000 die from it every year. WHO designates neurocysticercosis as a neglected tropical disease i.e. one of a group of diseases that results in significant illness among those who are infected and is often poorly understood by health care providers. What needs to be done? • Neurocysticercosis is potentially eradicable, and control interventions are underway to eliminate this infection. ‘Can’t have complete ban on firecrackers’, says SC
of the high court banning the sale, use and purchase of all types of firecrackers in the state issued on Friday. The ruling comes just days ahead of Kali Puja, Diwali and other festivals. Appearing for firecracker manufacturers, senior lawyer Siddharth Bhatnagar told the Supreme Court on Monday: “Despite the fact that there are three orders of Supreme Court regarding green crackers and two orders of the National Green Tribunal, the Calcutta High Court has banned green crackers. The Supreme Court orders say that if air quality is moderate or better, green crackers may be per-
Centre to resume biometric attendance for employees of all levels from Nov 8 NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (PTI): The Union government has decided to resume biometric attendance for employees of all levels from November 8, the Personnel Ministry said on Monday. It shall be the responsibility of heads of department to ensure that sanitisers are mandatorily placed beside biometric machines and all employees sanitize their hands before and after marking the attendance, it said. The employees were previously exempted from biometric attendance due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. “Physical distancing of six feet must be maintained by all employees while marking their attendance. If required, additional biometric attendance machines may be installed to avoid overcrowding,” the Personnel Ministry said in an order to all central government ministries and departments. All employees shall be required to wear masks or face covers at all times, including while waiting to mark their attendance, it said. “Meetings, as far as possible, shall continue to be conducted on video conferencing and personal meetings with visitors, unless necessary in public interest, are to be avoided,” the order stated. All officers and staff shall strictly follow COVID-appropriate behaviour at all times in offices, the Personnel Ministry said.
mitted to be used.” The Calcutta High Court order had come over a Public Interest Litigation filed by environmental activist Roshni Ali who sought a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers during the upcoming festivities to safeguard people’s right to clean, healthy and breathable air, particularly in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The state should ensure that there is no use or display or bursting of firecrackers of any type at all during Kali Puja, Diwali, Chhath Puja, Jagadhatri Puja, Guru Nanak’s birthday and Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations this year,” the HC had said.
Will rename Mumbai-K’taka as Kittur K’taka: CM Bommai BENGALURU, NOV 1 (PTI): The Mumbai-Karnataka region will be renamed as ‘Kittur Karnataka region’ as there is no point in retaining the old name when border disputes often emerge, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday. “We have recently renamed Hyderabad-Karnataka region as Kalyana Karnataka. We have now decided to rename MumbaiKarnataka region as ‘Kittur Karnataka’ in the coming days,” the Chief Minister announced during the Karnataka Rajyotsava, which is celebrated to commemorate the formation of Karnataka state 65 years ago. The Chief Minister was apparently referring to the repeated claims made by Maharashtra politicians demanding the merger of Belagavi district and a few border regions of Karnataka with Maharashtra owing to the presence of substantial Marathi speaking population. He also said that a decision to this effect will be taken in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
Explaining the reason behind naming the cluster of districts in North Karnataka as Kittur-Karnataka region, Bommai said, “After the unification of Karnataka, our border disputes started and it has been settled but yet we hear the quarrels taking place. Is there any meaning to still call it Mumbai-Karnataka region when so many things are happening? What is the point in calling it Mumbai-Karnataka?” He argued that the changes in the region should have happened in 1956 when the State Reorganisation Act came into effect. Stating that mere renaming is not sufficient until the standard of living of the people in that region improves and development takes place, Bommai said the regional imbalance and disparities should also go and all the regions should grow together. The Chief Minister said his government is making efforts in to end regional disparity with a vow not to leave any region in the state underdeveloped.
Akhilesh not to contest UP Assembly polls, announces tie-up with RLD LUCKNOW, NOV 1 (PTI): Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said he will not contest the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections himself even as he announced that an alliance between his party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal is now final. Yadav also said his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav, who broke away from the SP to form the Pragatisheel Samajwadi party Lohia (PSPL) will get the “due honour” from his party. “Our alliance with the RLD is final. Seat-sharing is to be finalised,” he told PTI in an interview. The RLD enjoys support among farmers of Western Uttar Pradesh and is on the same page with the SP on the issue of opposing the Centre’s three farm laws. The SP has already announced an alliance with Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SPSP). Yadav, who is an SP MP from Azamgarh and regarded as the CM face of his party, said, “I will not
Wankhede visits NCB headquarters in Delhi 4 get death for 2013 Patna serial blasts NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (PTI): NCB Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede on Monday visited the federal anti-narcotics agency’s headquarters here and met senior officers, officials said. Wankhede was seen entering the head office of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the national capital’s R K Puram area soon after he met National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairperson Vijay Sampla. “I have presented all the documents and facts as sought by the commission (NCSC)... there will be a verification of my complaint and the honourable chairperson will soon give you a response,” Wankhede told reporters after the meeting. Fighting allegations that he forged his caste certificate and other documents to secure a job as an IRS officer under the SC quota after clearing the UPSC examination, Wankedhe earlier presented his original caste papers to Sampla to prove he is a Dalit. Officials said Wankhede

visited the NCB headquarters for some “official work”. It was not immediately known if he met NCB director general S N Pradhan or deputy director general (northern region) Gyaneshwar Singh. He had last visited the NCB headquarters here on October 26. Officials had said the visit of the Mumbai NCB director was with regard to a review meeting. Singh is conducting a departmental vigilance probe into allegations of extortion made in the drugs-on-cruise case in which Wankhede and his team had arrested actor Shah Rukh
Khan’s son Aryan Khan and seven others on October 3 from the international cruise terminal in Mumbai. At least 20 people have been arrested in this case till now. Prabhakar Sail, an independent witness in the cruise drugs case, had claimed and filed an affidavit that there was an extortion bid of Rs 25 crore by some agency officials and others for letting off Aryan Khan from the case. Sail had stated that he overheard that a “bribe” of Rs 8 crore was to be paid to Wankhede out of this money. The Mumbai NCB chief has denied these claims. Sail claims to be the bodyguard of a private person and another witness in this case, K P Gosavi, who was recently arrested by the Pune police in a fraud case pending against him. Gosavi’s close proximity and photographs with Aryan Khan during NCB raids had raised questions. They are part of the agency’s departmental vigilance probe.
PATNA, NOV 1 (PTI): A special NIA court on Monday awarded death sentence to four of the nine people convicted in the 2013 serial blasts that left six dead here at the venue of an election rally addressed by Narendra Modi, who was then the Gujarat chief minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Special NIA judge Gurvinder Singh Mehrotra, who had on October 27 pronounced the nine guilty, also sentenced two other accused to life imprisonment, besides awarding 10 years rigorous imprisonment to as many and seven years in jail to another convict. According to Special Public Prosecutor Lalan Prasad Singh, who argued on behalf of the NIA, capital punishment has been awarded to Haider Ali, Noman Ansari, Mohd Mujibullah Ansari and Imtiyaz Alam. “The court took a grim view of

PANAJI, NOV 1 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Baner jee may have won a tough battle in the Bengal polls, which ended in the BJP’s defeat, but her outlook at taking on the BJP is “parochial,” former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on Monday. Chidambaram, who is the AICC’s senior observer in-charge of the 2022 state Assembly polls in Goa, was responding to questions from the media about the remarks made by Banerjee last week when she said that the Congress’ indecision about entering into alliances with regional parties was making Prime Minister Narendra Modi all the more powerful. “I do not dispute that Banerjee fought and won a tough fight in Bengal but who is fighting Narendra Modi in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Assam? It is the Congress. She is looking at it from the Bengal lens,” Chidambaram told a press conference in Panaji. “But if you look at all India, the party that
is at the forefront against Narendra Modi, fighting, tweeting, addressing press conferences, agitations is the Congress,” he said. Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Banerjee had said: “Modiji is going to be so powerful because of Congress. If one cannot take a decision (on alliances) why should the country suffer for that? They have got enough opportunities. Instead of BJP they contested against me in my state”.
the series of explosions which were aimed at causing heavy casualties at a gathering of innocent people,” Singh told reporters outside the court. “Two others – Umar Siddiqui and Azharuddin Qureishi – had confessed to their involvement during trial. The court, considering their confession, did not award death sentence to them but only sentenced them for life,” he added. Notably, five of the convicts – Haider Ali, Mohd Mujibullah Ansari, Imtiyaz Alam, Umar Siddiqui and Azharuddin Ansari – were awarded life imprisonment by the court three years ago in connection with the serial blasts that had rocked the international pilgrim city of Bodh Gaya three months prior to the explosions at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

be contesting the assembly election myself ”. The SP supremo, who was a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) when he served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012-2017, did not give any reason for the decision. However, later Yadav said a final decision on his contesting the polls will be taken by the party. On whether he has held any talks with the AIMIM or Mamata Banerjee’s TMC for the state polls, he said there have been no discussions with them. Terming his party’s tie up with the SBSP as a natural alliance, Yadav said people in eastern Uttar Pradesh have accepted it
and it will ensure the BJP’s defeat. On the poll promises made by the SBSP to provide free electricity and RLD of providing over one crore jobs, Yadav said every party has its agenda . “We all raise issues of farmers, employment, common man. Everyone is releasing their manifesto. If voted to power, our government will try to accommodate them and prepare a common minimum programme,” he said Asked about the joining of Congress leaders and also of a BJP and BSP MLA in his party, he asserted, “The joining will continue. It shows that people are seeing the SP as an alternative to the BJP, which only spread lies and deceit people with promises.” He said that people of the state have not forgotten the pain and treatment meted to them during the peak of Covid and added that maximum cases were lodged against his party workers during the pandemic for helping people.

NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (AGENCIES): Green crackers - firecrackers made using relatively less-polluting materials - can be used during the festive season starting this week in West Bengal, the Supreme Court said on Monday, setting aside a total ban on crackers by the Calcutta High Court to check air pollution amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Relying upon an order by the top court in another case involving firecrackers from Friday, the judges said, “There cannot be a complete ban of firecrackers. Strengthen the mechanism to stop misuse.” Supreme Court Justices AM Khanwilkar and Ajay Rastogi also asked the West Bengal government to explore the possibility of ensuring that banned firecrackers and related items are not imported in the state and stopped at entry points. The judges, who assembled during the Diwali break to hear the matter, were hearing the pleas by manufacturers against the order

FY21 but lost 7.3 per cent of that in FY22 after the worst economic contraction on record due to the pandemic. The 2011 Census pegged the size of the informal sector in trade, hotels, transport, communication and broadcasting at 40 per cent; in construction at around 34 per cent; 16 per cent of public administration; and 20 per cent of manufacturing and almost 100 per cent formalisation in finance, insurance and utilities, and to a large extent in real estate and agriculture.
also said payments worth Rs 1 lakh crore have been made at petrol pumps alone in the past five years. A sizeable informal economy is not just an emerging and developing economy feature, and according to the IMF, 20 per cent of the European GDP is an informal economy. On the impact of the just-launched E-Shram portal, a first-ever national database of unorganised workers, on the formalisation of the economy, the report said as much as 5.7 crore unorganised workers have registered in the first two months after its launch in August, with 62 per cent of workers belonging to the 18-40 age-group and 92 per cent of the registered workers having monthly income of under Rs 10,000. Ghosh considers the E-Shram portal to be a big step towards employment formalisation as to date the rate of formalisation of unorganised labour due to E-Shram is around 17 per cent or Rs 6.8 lakh crore, which is 3 per cent of GDP in just two months.

than most other nations. The note ban hit hardest the informal sector which then constituted 93 per cent of the workforce. The second blow to the informal economy was the GST and the final and the hardest hit came from the pandemic. At least Rs 13 lakh crore has come under the formal economy through various channels over the past few years, including the recent scheme on the E-Shram portal, the report said. Real GDP was estimated at Rs 135.13 lakh crore in
The formal financial sector has even expanded by 10 per cent post-the pandemic, with the DBT transfers gaining traction and that of formalised utility services size expanded by 1 per cent during the pandemic, according to the report. The report, quoting the monthly EPFO payroll data, said that since FY18, almost 36.6 lakh jobs have been formalised till July 2021 and the report expects that this fiscal formalisation rate will be higher than FY20 but lower than the FY19 level. Since FY18, the agriculture sector has been formalised by 20-25 per cent due to the increasing penetration of KCC credit and now the informal agriculture sector is 70-75 per cent. Over the years, usage of Kisan credit cards has also increased significantly as the per card outstanding has gone up from Rs 96,578 in FY18 to Rs 1,67,416 in FY22, an increase of Rs 70,838. And there are 6.5 crore such cards, the amount formalised is Rs 4.6 lakh crore, the report noted. It

80% of economy now formal: SBI report
N E W D E L H I , N OV 2 (PTI): The digitisation drive and pandemic-induced emergence of the gig economy have led to a faster formalisation of the economy, with the share of the informal sector shrinking to just 15-20 per cent in 2021 from 52.4 per cent in 2018, according to an SBI Research report. Share of the informal economy has fallen drastically to 15-20 per cent of the gross value added (GVA) or the formal GDP in 2020-21 from 52.4 per cent in 2017-18 due to digitisation and the rapidly expanding gig economy, said Soumya Kanti Ghosh, the group chief economic advisor at SBI. The share of the same had stood at 53.9 per cent in 2011-12. According to Ghosh, many measures since the note-ban in November 2016 have accelerated digitisation of the economy, and the pandemic-induced emergence of the gig economy has facilitated higher formalisation of the economy, at rates possibly much faster

booster dose effective in reducing Boris warns of ‘doomsday’ as summit begins Covid severe disease outcomes: Lancet Study
GLASGOW, NOV 1 (AP): British Prime Minister Boris Johnson opened a global climate summit on Monday, saying the world is strapped to a “doomsday device.” Johnson likened an ever-warming Earth’s position to that of fictional secret agent James Bond — strapped to a bomb that will destroy the planet and trying to work out how to defuse it. He told leaders that “we are in roughly the same position” — only now the “ticking doomsday device” is real and not fiction. The threat is climate change triggered by the burning of coal, oil and natural gas, and he pointed out that it all started in Glasgow with James Watt’s steam engine powered by coal. He was kicking off the world leaders’ summit portion of a UN climate conference, which is aimed at getting agreement to curb carbon emissions fast enough to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) below pre-industrial levels. The world has already warmed 1.1 degrees Celsius (2 degrees Fahrenheit). Current projections based on planned emissions cuts

over the next decade are for it to hit 2.7C (4.9F) by the year 2100. Johnson told the summit that humanity had run down the clock when it comes to climate change, and the time for action is now. He pointed out that the more than 130 world leaders who gathered had an average age of over 60, while the generations most harmed by climate change aren’t yet born. Britain’s leader struck a gloomy note on the eve of the conference, after leaders from the Group of 20 major economies made only modest climate commitments at their summit in Rome this weekend. After Johnson, scores of other leaders will traipse to the podium Monday
and Tuesday at crucial international climate talks in Scotland and talk about what their country is going to do about the threat of global warming. From US President Joe Biden to Seychelles President Wavel John Charles Ramkalawan, they are expected to say how their nation will do its utmost, challenge colleagues to do more and generally turn up the rhetoric. The biggest names, including Biden, Johnson, Narendra Modi, France’s Emmanuel Macron and Ibrahim Solih, president of hard hit Maldives, will take the stage Monday. And then the leaders will leave. The idea is that they will do the big political giveand-take, setting out broad
Myanmar Ghani pledged to fight till death schools but fled when time came: Blinken reopens YANGON, NOV 1 (IANS):
Antony Blinken and Ashraf Ghani
NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (IANS): US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani promised to fight till death but fled Kabul when the Taliban came and captured the capital city, Dawn reported. In a recent CBS News inter view, Blinken was asked if he had personally tried to persuade Ghani to stay in Kabul. The Secretary of State said he was on the phone with Ghani on Saturday (August 14) night, pressing him to accept a plan for transferring power to a new government in Kabul. This gover nment would have been “led by the Taliban but (would have) included all aspects of the Afghan society”, he said. Ghani told him that “he was prepared to do that, but if the Taliban wouldn’t go along, he was ready to
fight to the death”, Blinken said. “And the very next day, he fled Afghanistan.” T h e Ta l i b a n c a p tured Kabul on August 15 as Ghani flew out of Afghanistan. “So, I was engaged with President Ghani over many weeks, many months,” Blinken added. Asked if he did everything he could, the top US diplomat said the State Department was reviewing everything that Washington did, starting from 2020 when former President Donald Trump’s administration made an agreement with the Taliban for withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan. The review would include “the actions we took during our administration, because we have to learn every possible lesson from the last couple of years” and also from the last 20 years, he said.
Myanmar on Monday reopened all basic education schools, including private schools and Buddhist monastic schools, amid a decrease in daily Covid-19 infections in the country. According to an announcement of Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment for Covid-19, schools in 46 townships of nine regions and states will be excluded from reopening based on the analysis on the test positivity rates per 100,000 people in the past 14 days, reports Xinhua news agency. Schools in Yangon region saw less students on Monday, the first day of the reopening. The authorities closed all schools since early July as part of the anti-pandemic measures.
TOKYO, NOV 1 (AP): Prime Minister Fumio Kishida says Japan should revitalise its economy through “new capitalism.” Many in this avidly capitalist country are puzzled over exactly what he has in mind. Kishida has said he believes a more equal distribution of wealth is needed to prevent the world’s third largest economy from sinking into stagnation. That sounds dramatic, but ana-
lysts say he doesn’t stand for drastic change. The conservative, pro-U.S. and probusiness Liberal Democrtic Party, which has ruled Japan almost continuously since World War II, won a betterthan-expected 261 seats Sunday in the lower house of Parliament, comfortably exceeding the 233 seats needed and giving Kishida a mandate, at least for now. “With this definite support from the people, I will dedi-
chided China and Russia for their less than ambitious efforts to curb emissions and blamed them for a disappointing G-20 statement on climate change. Perhaps more troublesome for the UN summit is the absence of several small nations from the Pacific islands that couldn’t make it because of COVID-19 restrictions and logistics. That’s a big problem because their voices relay urgency, Figueres said. In addition, the heads of several major emerging economies beyond China are also skipping the summit, including those from Russia, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa. That leaves India’s Modi the only leader present from the so-called BRICS nations, which account for more than 40% of global emissions. Kevin Conrad, a negotiator from Papua New Guinea who also chairs the Coalition for Rainforest Nations, said he’s watching the big carbon-polluting nations. “I think it’s really important for the United States and China to show leadership as the two largest emitters. If both of them can show it can be done, I think they give hope to the rest of the world,” he said.
BOSTON, NOV 1 (PTI): A third dose of Covid-19 vaccine is effective in reducing severe disease outcomes compared to individuals who have received two doses at least five months ago, according to the largest real-world study of Pfizer booster shot published in The Lancet. The study by researchers from The Clalit Research Institute and Harvard University was conducted in Israel, an early global leader in third-dose Covid-19 vaccination rates. It is the first to estimate the effectiveness of a third dose of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA Covid-19 vaccine against severe outcomes with adjustment for various possible confounders, including comorbidities and behavioural factors. A recent clinical trial conducted by BioNTech included a smaller sample size and did not estimate the third-dose’s effects for more severe outcomes. The study took place from July 30 through September 23, 2021, coinciding with Israel’s fourth wave of coronavirus infection and illness, during which the Delta variant was the dominant strain in the country for most
B R A S I L I A , N OV 1 (IANS): At least 25 bank robbery suspects were killed in two clashes with Brazilian authorities in the state of Minas Gerais, police said. cate myself to working on policies and parliamentary efforts,” said Kishida, chosen as head of the governing party just a month earlier. The Liberal Democrats prevailed over weaker opposition parties despite widespread unhappiness, until a recent drop in cases, with the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, perennial corruption scandals and a failure to deliver on promises for sweeping reforms intended to drive much faster growth. Kishida appears unlikely to stray far from the pro-market policies of the past decade. Under former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who stayed in office from late 2012-mid2020, the economy limped along with massive help from the central bank’s ultra-cheap credit and government spending. Abe’s successor, Yoshihide Suga, stuck with that “Abenomics” programme.
new infections. Researchers reviewed data from 728,321 individuals aged 12 or above who had received the third dose of the Pfizer vaccine. These individuals were carefully matched 1:1 with 728,321 individuals who had received only two shots of the Pfizer vaccine at least five months prior. Individuals were assigned to each group dynamically based on their changing vaccination status.
The results show that, compared with individuals who received only two vaccine doses five months prior, those who got three doses had 93 per cent lower risk of Covid-19-related hospitalisation, 92 per cent lower risk of severe disease, and 81 per cent lower risk of death. Vaccine effectiveness was found to be similar for different sexes, age groups and number of comorbidities, the researchers said. The study also included a population-level analysis which found that infection rates began to drop for each age group
7-10 days after they became eligible for the third dose. “These results show convincingly that the third dose of the vaccine is highly effective against severe Covid-19-related outcomes in different age groups and population subgroups, one week after the third dose,” said Professor Ran Balicer, senior author of the study from Clalit Research Institute in Israel. Professor Ben Reis from Harvard Medical School noted that one of the main drivers of vaccine hesitancy has been a lack of information regarding the effectiveness of the vaccine. “This careful epidemiological study provides reliable information on third-dose vaccine effectiveness, which we hope will be helpful to those who have not yet decided about vaccination with a third dose,” Reis said. Professor Miguel Hernan from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health said the trial of the Pfizer vaccine provided compelling evidence of its effectiveness to prevent symptomatic infection, but the estimates for severe disease and specific age groups were too imprecise.
After Australia, 5 more countries recognise India’s Covaxin NEW DELHI, NOV 1 (IANS): After Australia recognised Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for allowing entry of travellers who had received the vaccine, five more countries on Monday recognised India’s vaccine certificate. These five countries recognised both Covaxin and Covishield. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that five more countries have recognised India’s vaccination certificate, including Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, State of Palestine, Mauritius and Mongolia. In a tweet in the evening, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Mutual recognition of Covid-19 vaccination certificates continues! Five more recognitions for India’s vaccination certificate, including from Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, State of Palestine,
Mauritius and Mongolia.” Earlier, in the day Australia recognised Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin along with Covishield for allowing entry of travellers who had received the vaccine. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the Australian drug regulator, announced that it has recognised two more Covid-19 vaccines not
registered in Australia but used widely internationally, which includes Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and BBIBPCorV (manufactured by Sinopharm, China). The TGA further stated that with recognition of Covaxin, and BBIBP-CorV, along with the previously announced recognition of Coronavac (manufactured by Sino-

outlines of agreement, and then have other government officials hammer out the nagging but crucial details. That’s what worked to make the historic 2015 Paris climate deal a success, former UN Climate Secretary Christiana Figueres told The Associated Press. “For heads of state, it is actually a much better use of their strategic thinking,” Figueres said. In Paris, the two signature goals — the 1.5-degree Celsius limit and net zero carbon emissions by 2050 — were created by this leaders-first process, Figueres said. In the unsuccessful 2009 Copenhagen meeting the leaders swooped in at the end. Thousands lined up in a chilly wind in the Scottish city of Glasgow on Monday to get through a bottleneck at the entrance to the venue. But what will be noticeable are a handful of major absences at the summit known as COP26. Xi Jinping, president of top carbon-polluting nation China, won’t be in Glasgow. Figueres said his absence isn’t that big a deal because he isn’t leaving the country during the pandemic and his climate envoy is a veteran negotiator. Biden, however, has
banks, reports Xinhua news agency. According to the police, there were two gun battles: in the first, a group of individuals attacked a group of agents, who responded and left 18 suspects dead. Later, authorities went to a house where a number of suspects were hiding and a gun battle ensued, leaving seven people dead. Police also reported that weapons, bulletproof
vests, explosives, ammunition, and 10 stolen vehicles were also discovered. “It is probably the largest operation against the new type of robbery in the country. Several offenders were preparing a bank robbery and were surprised that our intelligence service had been integrated with the Federal Highway Police,” said Layla Brunella, spokesperson for Minas Gerais’ military police.

In addition, with input from the TGA, Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) (ATAGI) have determined that those who have received two doses of a TGA-approved or recognised vaccine at least 14 days apart are regarded as fully vaccinated from seven days after the second dose (with the exception of Janssen vaccine, where they are regarded as fully vaccinated seven days after the single dose).

Three-day PCC Campus Film Festival begins
D
epartment of Multimedia and Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (PCC) on Monday kick started its three-day Campus Film Festival (CFF) at its college campus in collaboration with Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) and EduVersity. Launching the CFF, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Chümoukedima, Er. Seyiekhrietuo Solo, said that PCC has become synonymous with quality education and excellence. He maintained that the college was a refuge for young minds who had been given artistic license to express themselves, their talents and to establish themselves as powerhouse of knowledge and innovation. Solo added that CFF was another example of the far-sighted vision of the college and giant strides being taken in the field of quality education. Speaking on the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP), he said that it was a reminder that the education system needs major overhauling. He maintained that the present education
system has been structured in such a way that it was heavily inclined and in favour of rote learning and memorizing, without actually understanding the concept behind it. Quoting Nelson Mandela’s “Education is the biggest tool that you can use to change the world”, he hoped that the idea of learning through visuals would resonate well and loud, not just within college, but beyond. Director CIHSR, Dr. Sedevi Angami in his speech, stated that movies and films were powerful tools to communicate to people.
Dr. Sedevi Angami
He revealed that he practised concepts of movie making in his day-to-day life, citing the example of how he used concepts of movie making in his administrative field. Angami added that though many would forge what one learns while being taught verbally, he asserted that one would remember most of which was learned through visual. He later encouraged the students to dig deeper into any movie or documentary one was working on, and urged not to make any superficial assessment. Meanwhile, director, Dreamz Unlimited, Tia-
kumzuk Aier, in his speech, spoke about FAN, stating that it was founded by likeminded people, with the aim to promote film culture in the state. He further added that it was very much encouraging to see colleges and universities taking interests in film culture. He opined that through the initiative taken by colleges and universities, the state’s film industry would grow to compete against other industries across the country. He also spoke on how the Churches were also playing vital role in the film industry and acknowledged their support.

Real respiratory epidemic hidden for 30 years
he coronavirus may have put your lungs in the spotlight, but respiratory illnesses of all kinds have been surging under the radar for the past 30 years... And lung disease now accounts for a shocking 4 million deaths globally every year.1 It’s also a major cause of disability for millions more. Chronic lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, and asthma are the most widespread conditions. But other disorders like pneumoconiosis (caused by dust inhalation), interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary scarring and inflammation are also becoming increasing health burdens.
Mainstream medicine continues to push Big Pharma’s vaccines and drugs. But your lungs are not helpless targets. You see, your lungs have the power to resist and fight infections and chronic lung diseases. In a moment, I’ll share three easy steps you can take to protect yourself from respiratory illness and build real lung strength. But first, let me explain why your lungs are vital to every aspect of health. Without enough lung power, you risk a dangerous oxygen deficit in every cell, tissue, organ, and organ system in your body. • You lose vitality and stamina, and become short of breath. • Your cells lose the energy they need to repair
DNA. • Your immune system slows down. • You also raise your risk of serious diseases — including cancer, COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Reduced lung power
impacts your brain and heart health, and the ability of your arteries to pump lifegiving blood and oxygen to every part of your body, including all of your vital organs. Low lung power also means your heart isn’t as strong as it should be, your
circulation slows down and not enough oxygen reaches your brain, raising the risk of cognitive decline.2 Lung diseases and infections trigger dangerous inflammatory responses. They reduce lung capacity and dramatically lower your body’s oxygen levels. This in turn causes your airways to produce excess mucus, resulting in inflamed, irritated, and clogged lungs. Your air tubes become narrower and restrict the flow of air in and out of your lungs, making it difficult for you to breathe. It’s not surprising that the Framingham Heart Study, which reviewed 60 years of data, and the American College of Chest Physicians’ 29-year followup study, both studies found
Prehypertension: Are you at risk?
seen more in people with prehypertension than in those with normal blood pressure. Is Prehypertension a Result of Aging? You may wonder if high blood pressure happens with aging, but experts say no. Some populations across the globe have minimal rise in blood pressure with aging. In some parts of Mexico, the South Pacific, and other parts of the world, people have very low salt intake. In these areas, the age-related rise in blood pressure is small compared with the U.S. Is There Treatment for Prehypertension? Prehypertension is a warning sign. It means that you’re at a greater risk of high blood pressure. Depending on your blood pressure and risk factors for heart disease, you may only need to make a few lifestyle adjustments. Here are some strategies to help you manage prehypertension: • Lose weight if
you are overweight. Being overweight increases the risk of high blood pressure. However, losing weight can lower high blood pressure. Studies show that modest weight loss can prevent hypertension by 20% in overweight people with prehypertension. • Exercise regularly.Exercise helps you lose weight. Exercise also helps lower blood pressure. • E a t p l e n t y o f fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and low-fat dairy. Studies show high blood pressure can be lowered and prevented with the DASH diet. This[TM1] diet is low in sodium and high in potassium, magnesium, calcium, protein, and fiber. • Cut back on dietary salt/sodium. A diet high in sodium (salt) can increase blood pressure. A low-sodium diet can lower high blood pressure -- or prevent it. Aim for less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium daily (about 1
teaspoon of table salt). • Eat foods low in saturated and trans fat and cholesterol. Diets high in saturated fat (meats and high-fat dairy), trans fat (some margarine, snack foods, and pastries) and cholesterol (organ meats, high-fat dairy, and egg yolks) may lead to obesity, heart disease, and cancer. • Eat a plant-based or vegetarian diet. Add high-protein soy foods to your diet. Increase servings of fruits and vegetables by adding one serving at a time. You can add a serving of fruit at lunchtime. Then add a serving of vegetables at dinner. • D r i n k o n ly i n moderation. Drinking excess alcohol can increase blood pressure. Limit drinking to no more than two drinks a day for men, and one drink a day for women. I t ’s i m p o r t a n t t o get your blood pressure checked regularly. Know your blood pressure number. Let your doctor know if your blood pressure number is higher. You can monitor your blood pressure between doctor’s visits with a home blood pressure monitor. Or, you can use an electronic blood pressure monitor at your local pharmacy, grocery store, or fire station. Talk to your doctor about your blood pressure. Ask if diet and exercise can help lower your risk of getting high blood pressure. (By Debra Fulghum Bruce, PhD)
poor lung health to be the primary indicator of allcause mortality.3,4 Protect and Expand Your Lung Power Most mainstream doctors still ignore the vital importance of lung power. But they shouldn’t. Here’s what I recommend: 1. Determine your lung size. Next time you see your doctor, insist on getting a straightforward spirometry test and pay careful attention to inspiratory capacity, or IC. This is one of the best ways to determine the health of your lungs. IC measures the total volume of air you take in during normal breathing activity. An adult’s normal inspiratory capacity is around three liters. But if your IC is lower, you aren’t able to fully

exhale because your lungs may be holding trapped air. You may have obstructed or restricted airways. 2. Expand your lung power. There is an interesting survey by YouGov that highlights an astonishing public misunderstanding... 70% of the poll’s respondents thought that people with lung diseases should not take part in any kind of exercise. They couldn’t be more wrong. The fastest and most life-changing way to boost lung power and reverse lung damage is my PACE exercise program. PACE was designed specifically to help you stretch your lungs and increase their capacity to hold oxygen. Exercise also helps you to pump more
blood through your lungs, which clears away pollutants that can cause irritation and infection. 3. Use the power of NAC. N-acetyl cysteine is a highly effective “precursor” to the antioxidant glutathione, your body’s strongest antioxidant. Glutathione is found in every cell in your body, and is a powerful weapon against oxidative stress, inflammation, and free radical damage to tissues — especially in the lungs. NAC is also a potent antioxidant in its own right — even before it converts into glutathione. Studies show NAC also decreases the production of proinflammatory compounds that cause scarring in lung tissue. (Al Sears, MD)

hat Is Prehypertension? In stage 1 hypertension, also known as prehypertension, the systolic (top number) reading is 120 mmHg-139 mmHg, or the diastolic (bottom number) reading is 80 mmHg-89 mmHg. Prehypertension is a warning sign that you may get high blood pressure in the future. High blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and kidney failure. There’s no cure for high blood pressure, but there is treatment with diet, lifestyle habits, and medications. We know that starting as low as 115/75 mmHg, the risk of heart attack and stroke doubles for every 20-point jump in systolic blood pressure or every 10-point rise in diastolic blood pressure for adults aged 40-70. Who Is at Risk for Prehypertension? Nearly half of all adults older than age 18 have prehypertension or hypertension, as measured by average of two or more readings at two or more doctor’s visits. According to the American Heart Association, 59 million people in the U.S. have prehypertension. MILAN, NOV 1 (AGENCIES): Turning 40 hasn’t stopped Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he scored his 400th league goal as AC Milan claimed a narrow victory over Roma in Serie A. Milan’s win moves them level on points with league leaders Napoli. The ageless Sweden great, whose 40th birthday was on October 3, scored one goal and also drew a penalty that led to AC Milan’s second goal. Before he was substituted near the hour mark, Ibrahimovic tormented Roma with chance after chance, with only the offside rule and VAR preventing him from scoring or setting up several more goals. Ibrahimovic scored midway through the first half with a powerful free kick through Roma’s wall for his 400th career league goal. His first league goal came almost exactly 22 years ago — on Oct. 30, 1999 as an 18-yearold for Malmö FF in Sweden’s top division. Moments later, Ibrahimovic nearly created another goal but he was ruled offside after chesting down a near-perfect setup for Rafael Leão. Still hungry for more, Ibrahimovic also had a goal disallowed by VAR when he was again offside. But when Ibrahimovic was the victim of a hard tackle from Roger Ibañez, the referee whistled for a penalty and it was confirmed by VAR, leading to Franck Kessie’s spot kick in the 57th. Milan then ended with 10 men after Theo Hernandez picked up his second yellow card, which will keep him out of next weekend’s derby with Inter. Stephan El Shaarawy pulled one back for Roma in stoppage time.

T20 WC: Buttler hits ton as Eng beat SL by 26-run
SHARJAH, NOV 1 (PTI): Jos Buttler smashed a magnificent 101 not out, his maiden international century in the shortest format, as England registered their fourth consecutive win, beating Sri Lanka by 26 runs in a Super 12 match to virtually seal a semifinal spot in the T20 World Cup here on Monday. Buttler (101 not out off 67 balls) and skipper Eoin Morgan (40 off 36 balls) shared a century stand for the fourth wicket to take England to a challenging 163 for 4 after early setbacks. Sent in to bat, England lost three wickets for 35 runs before Buttler and Morgan joined hands to stitch a crucial 112 runs that came off 78 balls. Sri Lanka’s chase too started on a disappointing note as they lost their first three wickets with the scoreboard reading 34 runs in 5.1 overs. Needing 98 off the last 10 overs, Rajapaksa tried to up the ante, but was caught by Jason Roy as the batter was deceived by Woakes’ off-cutter. It became a herculean task for Sri Lanka from there on. Earlier, England lost Jason Roy (9) in the second over. First Dawid Malan (6) was cleaned up by
