KOHIMA, SEP 15 (NPN): BJP national spokesperson and in-charge of Nagaland Nalin Kohli on Thursday categorically stated that the seat sharing formula between NDPP (40) and BJP (20) has been “finalised” and the decision to continue the alliance was taken by the Central leadership. While acknowledging that in a democratic party everyone had the right to express their views, Kohli, reiterated that as the NDPP-BJP coalition was successful, the BJP was committed to the seat sharing pact. Talking to media persons here on Thursday evening, Kohli said BJP was committed to serve the people of Nagaland and will continue the good work as a “double engine government, with Modi in Centre and coalition government in Nagaland”. “We are a party with national commitment and we understand regionally also that we need to make it as strong and make it an engine of growth, and that is our agenda,” he stated. Kohli also said that with NDPP-BJP government, Nagaland witnessed significant development and the BJP wished to continue to work together. He maintained that even if allies snap ties with BJP, the party has a history of loyalty to its alliance partners. Centre, Assam govt sign peace pact with 8 Adivasi militant groups
NEW DELHI, SEP 15 (PTI/AGENCIES): The Centre on Thursday signed an agreement with eight tribal militant organisations based in Assam to bring a lasting peace in some areas of the state. The tripartite agreement among the central and state governments and the eight groups, including All Adivasi National Liberation Army, Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam, Birsa Commando Force, Santhal Tiger Force, and Adivasi People’s Army, was signed here in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma among others. The groups were in ceasefire since 2012 and living in designated camps. Shah said the Prime Minister Modi-led central government wanted the North East to be “drug-free, (Cont’d on p-5) terrorism-free, dispute-free”.

Man gets life term for rape of minor DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN): Court of Special Judge, POCSO Act, Phek on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 51-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life for rape of minor girl on January 7, 2022. The accused identified as Vesurayi Medeo, grandfather of victim by marriage and serving as head gaon bura (GB) of Phuyoba since 2009 was convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and fine of Rs. 10,000 for commission of rape and aggravated penetrative sexual assault upon victim girl child. The victim was about 10-year-old when the incident occurred.
The accused was charged under Section 376(2)(f) IPC and Section 5(m)(n), 6 of POCSO Act. He was also convicted of committing sexual assault and penetrative sexual assault and sexual harassment upon her in her bedroom under section 8, 10 and 11 of POCSO Act. He was also convicted for lurking house-trespass of the bedroom of victim and lurking house-breaking of the bedroom door of the victim under section 457 of IPC. In her judgement, Special Judge Mezivolu T Therieh stated that it was expected from the accused, who is a father figure to the
victim, to treat her with love and care. He is also the Head GB of Phuyoba Village since 2009 and therefore expected to work in public interest and honour the trust reposed on him by doing justice to all, the judge said. The court has directed the state government to pay Rs.five lakh as compensation for the relief and rehabilitation of the victim girl child within 30 days from the date of receipt of judgment. The case was investigated by I.O UBI Lucy Doungel, O.C. Women P.S, Phek and Samuel Ritse, Special Public Prosecutor, POCSO Act, Phek led the prosecution.
Later, the CNSA team also visited Tuli railway located near the defunct Tuli Paper Mill under Mokokchung district. There, CNSA held a joint meeting with Tsudikong Town Council (TTC), Langpangkong Tsukong Mungdang (LTM) and Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LSC). The meeting discussed restarting railway passenger train service and operation of the Tuli railway station. The meeting agreed that functioning of the railway station would benefit not only the people of Mokokchung district, but also of neighbouring districts.

DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN): Nagaland on Thursday recorded three fresh Covid-19 positive cases while no deaths were reported during the day. The three fresh cases were from Kohima, pushing the total caseload to 35,941. With this, the active cases surged to 10—two admitted to Covid hospitals and eight under home insolation. The death toll remained unchanged at 781. PTI adds: India added 6,422 new Covid-19 cases taking the total tally of cases to 4,45,16,479, while the death toll climbed to 28,250 with 34 fatalities.

NSF, NGBF welcome signing of ‘September Joint Accordant’ DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) have welcomed the signing of ‘September Joint Accordant’ by NSCN (I-M) and WC, NNPGs at a meeting held at Sovima on September 14, 2022 in the presence of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR). In a press release, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Süpuni Ng Philo said that the federation heartily welcomed the “historic agreement” facilitated by FNR. NSF appreciated the “wisdom of our nationalists’ leaders” for responding to the call of
the Naga people “to come together, through the healing of the spirits, and collectively assert the legitimate rights of our people.” NSF said that the accord was “a reaffirmation that our future is in good hands.” The federation also expressed gratitude to the FNR for bringing about “this historic accord by actively liaising with the different Naga Political groups.” NSF stated that FNR’s “ceaseless efforts” to ensure that the spirit of true brotherhood and oneness prevails amongst the different groups would be remembered and treasured by “every single soul who will eventually

POSHAN-A staff to boycott all activities from today DIMAPUR, SEP 15 (NPN): One day after their appeal to the state government to release eight-month salary, the POSHAN employees of all the districts and blocks have decided to boycott the remaining all POSHAN Maah activities with effect from September 16, 2022 till the pending salaries were released. In a letter addressed to the project director POSHAN Abhiyan, department of social welfare, the district coordinators said that the concerned authorities have been “superficial”. They said that no positive or
reassuring steps have been adopted by the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) office to address the issue even after several meetings and memorandums. The signatories said that the employees were resorting to boycott due to non-payment of POSHAN employees remuneration/ salary for the past seven months (from February 2022 till date).
