A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Note from the President: Q2 2023

Wow. What a great conference! Our first fully in person conference since 2019 was one of the most memorable I’ve had since I’ve been a part of NADR. We had an edge of your seat keynote speaker in Lt. Co. Robert Darling to kick things off and set the mood. The sessions gave us a lot of useful information for our practice and the live update from Acting Commissioner Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi was well received. We also had an inperson update from Chief Judge Patrick Nagle and a presentation from ALJ Tanya Garrian on the new ERAP scheduling system that will soon be rolled out to representatives. (Please see the ERAP handout later in this edition for more information). One of the highlights of the conference was the President’s Reception with entertainment by the Cary Morin Duo sponsored by OBL. What an amazing performance! As always, the connections made with other members were as valuable a benefit as any other. If you haven’t been to a NADR Conference, you are missing out!

As part of the Legislative Update session, the NADR Legislative Committee updated us on several of the projects we are working on now and in the coming year.

I was proud to announce during that session that our Missing Fees Project has done even better than I expected. Since accepting your requests for help on overdue fees on November 1st, 2022, NADR has been able to collect over $1.1 million dollars in unpaid fees from SSA and put that money where it belongs, in the pockets of those that worked so hard for them. The project will continue to roll on as long as it’s needed.

Along with the increased fee cap to $7,200 there have been growing pains, as we often see when SSA makes a change. We’ve received

numerous complaints that some fees continue to be paid under the old fee cap of $6,000. We’ve been working with SSA on solving this issue, with SSA being able to reverse many of these errors quickly through the same Missing Fees Project. If you have a fee that was paid mistakenly under the old fee cap, please submit those issues to us via the Missing Fees Project process immediately.

Post conference, NADR continues to pursue the items that are immediately in front of us: permanency of electronic signatures, ending the 5-month waiting period for SSDI benefits, and no charge for medical records.

Planning is in full swing for our Fall Networking Weekend in New Orleans September 21-24, 2023, and our next conference in Atlanta April 7-10, 2024.

In the meantime, stay engaged on the talklist forum, through webinars, NADR Connect and NADR Mastermind.

See you in New Orleans!
