Dean L. Matucha Dean Lee Matucha (17 October 1932–27 November 2015) was born in Chicago; he moved west with his family and attended high school in San Mateo. At Stanford University, he majored in psychology, graduating cum laude in 1954. Dean’s key professional projects were in public health, viral research, and cancer statistics. His longest employment was working on Silicon Valley’s high-tech routers. But at heart, he was an artist. He used artistic expression to manage his demons. He penned insightful reviews of books he read. He set down the beginnings and storylines for short stories. He recorded his dreams. He painted, initially representational works and then portraits and abstracts, finally working in the style of renowned modern painters. After managing for years with canvas, stretcher boards, and paints and brushes, he turned to photography. His eye for the abstract went to architectural features or the geometry of the lane markers in a swimming pool. His last projects were digital editing, manipulating colors, and the lightdark balance. He moved to Arizona for his health in 2010 and died in Sun City West, Arizona.
