H
aving crossed the threshold of 2011/2012, I wish you a blessed and a very successful year ahead. At the beginning of a new year it is always a joy to look ahead with hope and expectation of greater things to come. However, we do not just expect these to materialise, we know that we have to do our part and the Lord’s blessing will then be to grant and increase upon whatever we have done. Now something personal, on the occasion of my recent birthday I was presented with a beautiful book with messages written by the Sunday School children in my home congregation, These messages brought home to me the realisation of the depth of the relationship and the love and trust that our New Apostolic children have with our Heavenly Father. The year 2012 will be under the banner “Year of Children and Youth Activity”. This is not just
about entertainment activities for our younger generations but a focus on the importance of contributing to the work in the congregation. This made a very deep impact on me and it gives further hope and confidence in the future. Little wonder the Lord Jesus said: “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” (see Matthew 18:3). May we all take a lesson out of this and recognise the example that children so often set and that all people, irrespective of age, do well to follow.

A New District Apostle for South East Africa The Service by Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber in JHB, Standard Bank Arena was an historic affair on account of the retirement of District Apostle Johann Kitching. For over 23 years he had been responsible for the work in South East Africa District Church. Chief Apostle Leber described him as “an example of upright faith.” At the same time, District Apostle Helper Patrick Mkhwanazi (right) was ordained as the new District Apostle for the region. Together with him, Abraham Page was ordained an Apostle and Keith Wentzel was ordained a Bishop.
Priest & Sister Kaluwasha Visits Zambia Pr. Kaluwasha & Sister Joyce visited Zambia from 12 Dec to 25 Jan 2012. He said he had many experiences of faith during his travels. On occasion, a sister vowed to return to the choir after a long absence. Another sister who was bedridden for 6 months became well after a prayer. Pr. Kaluwasha also attended the “Triplets Shepherds Reunion” in his hometown of Kalulushi on 25 Dec 2011. He was ordained as Shepherd with two more ministers on same date in 1998.
Special Focus: With the commencement of the new year comes the commencement of many other things in our busy lives. For those who had some holiday comes the commencement of another working period, for the children, the school year commences in the near future and for the household, the commencement again of “normal” routines as each day passes.
and Sunday School activities etc. However, if these are just allowed to be “returns to normal” we miss a great opportunity to infuse joy and vibrancy into the congregational activities.
This year 2012 has been captioned “The Year of Children and Youth Activity”. The focus is to be on major activity of our young people, Sunday School children and youth alike. This should take place as a mixture of congregational (where possible), sub-district and district events and activities during the year. These, like all other activities, In our congregations there is should be organised and brought also a return to “normal” into being with zeal and purpose. routines such as choir and Just talking about such events will orchestra practices, youth
never bring the positive results that they otherwise could bring. Activities should include wherever possible and practical, tasks in the congregation and in the church. Let us all, ministers and members alike, get involved in “The Year of Sunday School and Youth Activity”.
News Items: 1. Our Brothers and Sisters in Christchurch, New Zealand continue to be disturbed by multiple earthquakes in their region. Over the Christmas period they again had to experience some large quakes. We shall continue to pray earnestly for them.
2. On Thursday, 29 December Samoa changed to the “same” time zone as the rest of our district (except for American Samoa) i.e. GMT +13 hours (GMT +14 hours in summer). American Samoa (20 minutes flying time to the East) remained in their original time zone i.e. GMT -11 hours. Interestingly, this means the first Sunday Service on earth and the last Sunday Service on earth are both conducted in our district!

t is indeed a cliché: “How time flies!” yet it is demonstrated by the fact the one twelfth of 2012 is all but gone! Well I trust the new year has been kind to you, and for those who have had a rocky start, all the more reason to buckle up and stay close to our source of Strength, Protection, Comfort and Blessing.
We look forward to everyone participating to make our congregation a Bethany… May the text in Nehemiah 8:10 (a portion) “for the joy of the Lord is your strength” My earnest longing is that you always find JOY in serving our GOD and that HIS joy will be your strength and sustenance!
We look forward to the Choir and Sunday School re-opening and there are some wonderful highlights and occasions of great blessing we anticipate:
