NACURH/ACUHO-I Daniel Siler Program of the Year Selection Committee Nathan Tack, IACURH Regional Director Regional Support for ASU-Tempe’s FauxChella November 30, 2014
Dear Selection Committee, Every once in a while a great student-implemented program is facilitated by a school that provides alternative entertainment, education, and places an emphasis on diversity. The Intermountain Affiliate’s own Arizona State University - Tempe (ASU-Tempe) hosted such a program. Faux-Chella hosted at ASU-Tempe sought to provide students the opportunity to express and share their talent while giving everyone the opportunity to discover new things. With its unique combination of multifaceted passive and active programming, unique goals, and a wide range of adaptability, I am proud to write this letter of support on behalf of the Intermountain Affiliate. Many programs selected as Program of the Year are focused on one individual aspect of programming, whether it is social, community building, or focused on diversity emphasis, but very few contain multiple aspects that compliment one another. Faux-Chella provided residents with an exciting platform to showcase their talents and passions while giving them the opportunity to participate in a series of activities rooted in artistic or creative interests, but also provoking thought. Additionally, the program gave the residents an opportunity to make lasting connections and network with their peers. Faux-Chella encouraged students to embrace all the diverse characteristics that each person and community has to offer at ASU-Tempe. This unique combination of multifaceted campus programming impressed the Intermountain Affiliate. ASU - Tempe team also had an outstanding presentation. They integrated the heart of their program right into the presentation. Everyone experienced Faux-Chella through the video shown as well as hearing about the impact the program made on students who had attended and performed at the event. The presentation then proceeded to explain how the program could be adapted for any size campus and any size budget. It is with great confidence that I say their presentation at both NACURH 2015 and ACUHO-I would be outstanding, engaging, and offer resources to aide with program implementation across the nation. It is with great satisfaction that I recommend Arizona State University-Tempe: Faux-Chella for the NACURH/ACUHO-I Daniel Siler Program of the Year. It contains a unique variety of passive and active programs, a focus on showcasing students, and great adaptability across schools. With absolute certainty, the Intermountain Affiliate endorses this bid for your consideration. Sincerely,
IACURH ia_director@nacurh.org
