Dear NACURH Awards Selection Committee, I am proud to write this letter of support on behalf of the Intermountain Affiliate for the IACURH nominee for the NACURH NCC of the Year Award, Becca Lynch from Arizona State University Tempe.

Becca has shown excellence in every aspect of the NCC position. She is determined and dedicated to the success of RHA and the region on all levels. Over the past year, Becca has proven to be a driving force behind many regional initiatives and boardroom discussions. She has submitted multiple pieces of legislation to benefit all involved students, including a piece to make all regional policy gender-inclusive. This has served to make the region more welcoming and accessible to all. Becca has been a key piece in moving the region forward as a member of the IACURH Strategic Planning Commission. In this role, she has had the opportunity to lead the Gathers task force, which focuses on conferences in great depth. She has played a large role in constructing the future of the region, and will continue to do so as she serves as the Coordinating Officer of NCC Training and Development for 2016- 2017.

It is the mark of truly excellent NCC when one can take knowledge and experience from the region and NACURH and implement these ideas successfully on campus. This is something that Becca Lynch has done beautifully during her time as NCC. After revamping the application process for the IACURH 2016 conference, she continued to innovate with her complete restructure of the ASU Tempe IACURH committees. All conference work was split between three groups of selected students, which resulted in students remaining on task and completing all items of business prior to the conference in an efficient manner. Becca understands the importance of implementing what students have learned from the conference on a campus level and developed a worksheet for all delegates to assist in accomplishing this goal. This worksheet ensured that every delegate from ASU Tempe brought back at least one thing from the regional conference and completely understood the impact to other students. She has also worked to convey regional boardroom and spirit practices on the general council level in order to increase retention and create transferable skills. After all of this, Becca has also implemented a programming vault for all programs that are submitted and presented to conferences so they may be used as a resource for the future at Arizona State University Tempe.

Becca Lynch is the NCC that others aspire to become. She has a deep understanding of both of her role and the corporation, and combines this knowledge to serve students across NACURH. Her charisma and dedication to excellence have made her a leader who is trusted and revered by her peers. Becca lives the IACURH standard of working to be the best by far. It is with great pleasure that I present this nomination for Becca Lynch as the NACURH NCC of the Year.

Becca Lynch’s passion for Arizona State University-Tempe’s Residence Hall Association, the National Residence Hall Honorary: Chapter of the Maroon and Gold, IACURH, and NACURH is amazing. Since her first year living on campus, she has been a devoted staff member and an axial part of our organization. Within the past few months, Becca has inspired so many with her on-campus initiatives, including her implementation of the social justice committee and commitment to inclusivity. Additionally, her passion for RHA & NRHH has reflected on many staff members. She continuously finds new ways to get involved and is always willing to put forth hours of time to ensure the success of our two sister organizations. She is never limiting her involvement, incuding signing up for multiple committees, never missing meetings, and is showing constant support to our Community Councils and members. Becca is one to put others before herself; this speaks highly of her leadership style and personality. Serving in her second term, Becca has played a significant role in representing ASU-Tempe on the IACURH and NACURH level. As the face of Ariziona State University - Tempe, we are confident of Becca’s experience within her roles and wouldn’t have anyone else speak on behalf of our school.

Although Becca has been in her position for two years now, she has implemented so much change within the past year. Her on-campus implementation has advanced the delegate experience, including her post-conference survey and ensuring conference delegates are bringing something back to our campus through her Implementation Worksheet.

Becca strives for greatness; there is never a challenge that has been brought forth that she hasn’t combated and defeated. Implementing new ideas as a returning NCC can be a challenge, but it wasn’t an issue for Becca. Her drive to continually grow the NACURH Communications Coordinator role (no matter how many obstacles she has had to face) has inspired so many, and even moreso has served as a huge retention tool. It is with great pleasure that Arizona State University-Tempe presents Becca Lynch for NACURH’s NCC of the Year Nominee.

Search Implementing Co-Delegation Leaders

Being an E-Board Buddy

Listed in ASU-Tempe’s RHA Governing Documents, each member on the Executive Board one must serve as an “E-Board Buddy” to at least one community council. Since NACURH 2015, Becca has served two different community councils. As an E-Board buddy, Becca has mentored and supported both our Presidents’ and Vice-Presidents’ initiative through programming and advocacy. During times of need, Becca dropped everything to ensure our staff felt supported. This has served as a huge retention tool not only with staff; it continues to bring community council members out as well. Becca’s goal as an E-Board buddy is to ensure all members within the Residence Hall Association feel supported and continue to help them grow as student leaders on the Arizona State University - Tempe campus.

Her knowledge continuously educates our members, and it helps shape the future of their careers not only in RHA; it extends throughout the whole university.

Strong Delegate Experience

Getting regionally involved is a huge honor within ASU-Tempe’s RHA. Being able to represent our organization to other schools with IACURH plays a huge role in the delegate experience. In order to best represent Arizona State University, Becca plans to better prepare the delegates. By doing so, Becca hopes our delegates get the most out of their experience and fully invest themselves in all the opportunities offered during conference season. By spending hours in the RHA office preparing door decorations, roll call, and other spirit items, Becca sees this as a huge opportunity to not only be ready for the conference; this is a great time for our delegates to get to know each other on a more personal level and even more so build relationships within our delegation. Additionally, Becca works with those program-presenter’s to ensure they are getting the most out of their experience. They have the opportunity to run through their programs, receive feedback, and then further implement that when presenting at the conference. In full, Becca hopes to ensure our delegates are mentally and physically prepared during conference time so they can fully immerse themselves in the whole experience and enjoy it.

This increased-support will boost moral as well as enhance our delegates as students leaders both on and off campus.

Conference preparation time can be the most hectic for a NCC. In order to help with the execution of specific tasks, Becca has implemented Co-Delegation leaders. The Co-Delegation leader’s job is to ensure delegates are getting the most of their conference experience; attending programs, meeting other delegations fromacross the region, and continually getting regionally involved.

Additionally, this helping-hand also fills out paperwork, collaborates with Becca to get delegates registered, and ensures all delegates are cooperating and executive pre-conference preparations. This opens up further leadership opportunitiesand allows for more growth as a student leader on campus and regionally.

Delegate Support

One of Becca’s bigger goals is to ensure delegate support before, during, and after conferences. As part of her vision, Becca has created a post-conference survey that includes questions about the delegates’ experiences, how they felt supported, and things that they thought could have been better. After receiving their responses, Becca takes this information, works on the things that could have been done better, and further implements those changes for future conferences. After conferences, Becca continually reaches out to previous delegates to give them multiple opportunities to get involved, and even more so is there as a friend.

Regional Tab on the ASU-T RHA Website

Arizona State University - Tempe’s RHA utilizes the RHA Website to promote a lot of our events and initiatives. This central location is easy to find community events, current projects, and ways to get involved within the Residence Hall Association. Becca saw this as a great opportunity to educate our residents on the region, and plans to implement a regional tab. This tab will give all information about IACURH. Additionally, Becca plans on putting all conference applications on this page so it is an easy place to find when conference time comes around. Adding this new page will reach a wider range of ASU-Tempe’s students, which will increase regional involvement as a whole.

NCC Implementation

Implementation Worksheet

As part of the universal roles of being a conference delegate, one must agree to implement what they have learned during the conference on the campus level. To ensure ASU-Tempe’s delegates are fulfilling this requirement, Becca has created an implementation worksheet. This worksheet is to be filled out by a date set by the NCC. This page has information regarding what they have implemented, what they learned, and who it had an impact on. This is a great way to ensure our delegates are getting the whole conference experience and relaying new knowledge and opportunity to our residents. This helps with the retention of interest and getting others further involved in IACURH and NACURH.

GC Experience

One of ASU-Tempe RHA’s goal is to increase its retention rates to our General Council meetings. In order to make the most out of the GC experience, Becca has implemented many activities from IACURH’s regional boardroom.Through various Banana Brawl activities (such as Monkey Poo Fling and IACURH Idol) Becca has made the GC experience a little more exciting. The goal of incorporating this was to make the GC experince more enjoyable so residents feel more welcome to come back.

IACURH Committee Restructure

Conference Application

To better prepare for conferences, Becca has implemented a new way to structure committees. Originally, there were four groups that were in charge of specific tasks to help prepare all items. Although all aspects of the conference were complete, there was always one committee that was done before the others. To equalize the workload, Becca reduced the committees to three. Each committee was in charge of aspects relating to Spirit, Banner/Display, and costumes. All delegates remained on task during pre-conference preparations and were still able to complete all duties.

As part of Arizona State University’s mission to increase campus sustainability, many organizations find innovative ways to promote and distribute items via internet. In order to make conference applications sustainable, Becca has created an online application that can be found on our RHA Website. All applications are submitted to Becca via email instead of hardcopy which continues to save the environment. Not only is this supporting campus-wide initiatives; it reaches a wider range of residents.

As part of her NACURH 2015 implementation, Becca has created a programming vault. This programming vault is to be utilized by our members that have access to our RHA Website.

In this vault, all programs submitted to conferences will be listed. Each program will have information including which conference it was submitted to, whether it was presented or not, and specific details to execute the program.

This will offer transparency on how to program at a regional level, give our delegates the opportunity to review previous work, and inspire our members to have a lasting impact on all conferences additional to their impact on the Arizona State University - Tempe campus. The success of the programming vault has helped shape delegates’ programs, earning “Top Programs” at various conferences.

Arizona State University - Tempe continues to align with IACURH’s processes, one in which includes making a positional Bid Vault. As seen on the IACURH website, one can find previous positional bids to get inspired and utilize the previous work to help shape their own bid.

ASU-Tempe similarly has positional bidding for Executive Board and President positions.

During the elections process, one must submit a bid and defend it during their presentation Continuing implementation, Becca has created a “Positional Bid Vault” link on our staff page so those who are interested in a position can refer back to previous bids for inspiration. This has helped better align ASU-Tempe with Regional and NACURH level bidding processes while still offering those bidding to be creative.

RHA/ NRHH Involvment

Arizona State University’s Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary: Chapter of the Maroon and Gold is dedicated to it’s services within the National Residence Hall Month. During the month of February, our two executive boards collaborate on programs and initiatives for our residents. As an active member in NRHH and an RHA staff member, Becca has devoted multiple hours to the success of NRHM. Becca served as a Co-Chair for ASU-Tempe’s Service Week and lead the following service projects:

Ben’s Bells

Ben’s Bells mission is to inspire, educate, and motivate people to realize the impact of intentional kindness and to empower individuals to act according to that awareness. Through ASU-Tempe’s involvement with Ben’s Bells, our mission to spread kindness throughout the University was greater expanded to the Phoenix-Metropolitan area. Through personalized crafts and making “Ben’s Bells” our staff was introduced to a new way of spreading kindness within our residence halls. It is with Becca’s support and organizational skills that we were able to support this movement and further advocate for on-campus kindness universaly.

School Supply Donation Drive

As mentors to our neighboring high schools and elementaries, Arizona State University strives to support our future Sun Devils. As part of the NRHM Service Week Committee, it was under Becca’s leadership that our sister organizations started a School Supply Donation Drive. All supplies were donated by our community council members and were arranged in paper bags that were decorated by our RHA & NRHH members. Each supply bag included pencils, crayons, notepads, and markers. These supplies were given to students at Arizona State University Preparatory School.

Grounds for Grounds

Arizona State University strives for on-campus sustainability. During the month of February, Grounds for Grounds’ mission is to encourage students to get involved with a day of picking oranges around the campus.

These oranges are later processed and served in our dining halls. As the Service Week Co-Chair, Becca was in charge of recruiting members from our community councils to get involved in the event. It is because of Becca’s dedication to on-campus sustainability that our staff was informed of this amazing opportunity and it has a direct impact on our residents as well as the university as a whole.

In full, ASU-Tempe’s initiatives were well executed. Through Becca’s guidance, our organization and Chapter was able to give back farther than just the Arizona State University community; it had an impact on the daily lives of our future Sun Devils and partners. As advocates for Philanthropy, ASU-Tempe has grown so much from these service initatives by helping others.

“Life is better with a dog” Spirit and Tradition

Becca exemplifies what it means to be a spirited individual. From cheering at ASU’s sporting events to starting the “Monkey Rumble” during our General Council meetings, Becca always brightens up the room. In order to make our General Council experience more lively and fun, Becca has taught multiple regional cheers (as well as ASU cheers) to our staff. She took the initiative to print off the words to all cheers so our members are ready to represent ASU-Tempe with Sun Devil pride.

When it comes to tradition, Becca is sure to always be active in activities such as Homecoming, RHA’s Hall Cup, and stays on top of ensuring ASU-Tempe is well-spirited during conference time.

NRHH Involvement

Becca has been a huge support system to the National Residence Hall Honorary: Chapter of the Maroon and Gold. Outside her involvement in NRHM, Becca has been an active member since Spring 2013. Becca attends Bi-Weekly General Body meetings. Above that, Becca has also attended the NRHH Executive Board meetings to ensure transparency between RHA and NRHH. Most of all, Becca has been an advocate for the growth of the chapter on the campus level and has helped with recruitment efforts by “tapping” conference delegates RHA staff.

RHA Fall Leadership Camp

One of Arizona State University’s RHA traditions is Fall Leadership Camp. Once every year, ASU RHA has the opportunity to take two hundred residents on a retreat to Prescott, AZ. During this retreat, our residents have the opportunity to attended programming sessions, become spirited through roll call and competitions, and meet Sun Devils from across ASU’s four locations. During Fall Leadership Camp, Becca implemented the NCC Scavenger Hunt. Becca, along with the other three NCC’s from ASU’s various locations, prepared trivia questions (written on CD’s to integrate the camp theme) and hid them around the campsite.

The goal of the activity was to not only have a friendly competition between delegations; it was a great opportunity to educate and quiz our residents on IACURH and NACURH information and traditinos. Each CD had a question pertaining to regional involvement and Becca utilized this time to extend opportunities to our new residents.

Social Justice Committee

As their first semester at ASU and can further apply these skills in their the lead of the committee, Becca challenges the members to continue everyday lives. research in depth about certain topics, educate others, and join the committee to continuously intake information. This is a great way to implement further on-campus Regional/National Transparency inclusivity and equity.

As an advocate for on-campus implementation, Becca seeks to educate others about the region. As part of her implementation, Becca speaks on behalf of the region/nation to make sure all aspects are transparent. This includes regional terminology, legislation, postitional bidding, and IACURH’s strategic plan for the next few years. All questions relating to IACURH and/or NACURH are answered in a community council setting, within our General Council meetings, or even one on one interaction. At the beginning of each academic year, we have a two week long training to prepare our staff for the year. At this training, there is a session specific to Becca’s roles as NCC on the ASU-Tempe campus and this time is utilized to educate our staff members on what is currently going on in the region as well as ways to get actively involved. Through her continutity to educate others, Becca has had the opportunity to get multiple people involved within the region (including regional chats, committees, and attending conferences). Through education, ASU-Tempe’s staff interest within the region has increased by more conference applications and interest in the NCC role on ASU-Tempe’s campus level.

IACURH Involvement

Legislation

IACURH 2015

As an avid member in the IACURH Region, Becca always advocates for change. In collaboration with other NCC’s from the region as well as the IACURH Regional Executives, Becca has proposed four pieces of legislation on the regional level (with three being presented) this past year. Two of these included changing pronouns in the IACURH constitution to be more inclusive, adding an NRHH Service Award to recognize outstanding leaders through service initatives.

She looks forward to presenting many more, and continuing to make our region as complex and inclusive as it can be.

To prepare for the IACURH 2015 conference, Becca split the ASU-T delegation into committees to prepare for the conference. Every Sunday leading up to the conference the delegation would meet and work on their various committees and also go over regional and state cheers. As an advocate for delegation spirit, Becca saw this as the perfect opportunity to get the delegation excited about the conferece. By the time of the conference, each delegate had put in at least 5 hours of work on their committees and memorized at least one cheer for the region or state.

IACURH Strategic Planning Commission

The IACURH Strategic Planning Commission is in charge of planning the next few years of the region. During these meetings, schools from all across the region gather to go over various topics to ensure the success of the region for the future. As an advocate for the continuous growth of the region, Becca has been a axial part of the process. She is involved in the following:

Gathers Task Force

The Gathers Task Force’s goal is figure our how IACUR can best utilize its’ time when we gather as a region. In IACURH’s Gathers Task force, Becca serves as the lead. In her role, Becca is in charge of scheduling and coordinating all Gathers Taskforce zoom meetings to ensure full transparency within the committee. In addition to scheduling, Becca is in charge of leading the meetings, then further relaying all information back to the IACURH Director, Shannon Mulqueen. During the IACURH Webinar, Becca was the representative for the task force to the rest of the region and explained all the work the committee has been working on. One initative that Becca pushed for was more involvement from alimuni and using our LAS-I database to involve those individuals in conferences. In full, she played a huge role within the committee.

IACURH Swaps Task Force

Within IACURH’s Swaps Task Force, it is the committee consisting of five people whose jobs are to evaluate the current IACURH Swaps procedure. By receiving feedback from other region’s, the task force is able to brainstorm new ways to implement the betterment of the process.

During IACURH 2015, there were seven program presenters from ASU-T three of which were awarded top program at the awards ceremony.

Becca was a huge factor in this success as she had prepared the program presenters and gave constructive feedback to make sure presenters were aware of how to successfully present their program.Every day at the conference the ASU-T delegation dressed up in a different costume relating to the theme of the conference. These costumes were decided upon by the costume committee and approved by everyone in the delegation. Dressing up every day gave the delegation a feeling of community and also gave them a chance to show their spirit to the region.

Becca supported the delegation by dressing up during boardroom and representing ASU-T along with the delegation. Lastly, she was there to ensure post-conference implementation requirements were met!

No Frills 2016

During No Frills 2016 at University of Colorado - Boulder, Becca sat in full boardroom and represented the 12,000 students on ASU-Tempe’s campus. Additionally, Becca ran for two positions, and attained the position as the CO-NCC-TD for the IACURH Region that will take place during the 2016-2017 Academic Year.

NACURH Involvement

At the University of North Dakota, Becca (along with her delegation) had made history for ASU-Tempe.

Becca, along with Hailey Farr and Djuro Baich, had the opportunity to present the NACURH Winning Program of the Year, Fauxchella, in front of all the NACURH Executives as well as the rest of the nation. During this presentation, Becca and her team talked about logistics, problem solving, and how other schools can implement a program similar to this on their campuses. Additionally, Becca had the opportunity to present a program; a program with a focus of being NCC. Not only did Becca have the opportunity to present; she had the opportunity to sit in Corporate Boardroom and spoke on behalf of ASU-Tempe and the IACURH Region.

She stated that this was one of the most memorable parts of the conference.

The highlight of this experience was winning the School of the Year award. Becca says, “This was one of the proudest moments of my life.” Additionally, she enjoyed the impact she had on her delegation; they were most thankful for having the opportunity to sit in boardroom for the first time. On behalf of Becca and ASU-Tempe, this was one of the biggest accomplishments during the 2014-2015 school year.

ACUHO-I

Becca, along with two delegates, had the opportunity to present the NACURH Program of the Year to professional staff in Orlando, FL this past summer.

Similar to NACURH 2015, the three presented on behalf of ASU-Tempe, as well as answered any questions Professional Staff had. These questions ranged from RHA structure, goals, and opportunities offered by the organization.

NACURH Implementation

Becca’s mission for NACURH 2015 was to bring back something to implement on the ASU-Tempe campus.

From NACURH 2015, she brought back a lot of what she learned from other NCC’s and implemented these in her returning role. One of the implementations she brought back was creating a post-conference survey to analyze each delegates’ expereince to implement new ways to make the delegate experience more impactful.

The Link

ASU-Tempe was the first ever featured school on NACURH’s “The Link”; a newsletter sent to all subscribers of NACURH and IACURH. Becca wrote an article on behalf of ASU-Tempe giving more detail about our Residential College structure, on-campus culture, and on-campus advocacy initiatives to offer full transparency to schools across the nation and beyond.

Dear IACURH Regional Board of Directors: It is my pleasure to write a letter in support of Becca Lynch for National Communications Coordinator of the Year representing Arizona State University--Tempe. Becca’s positive energy, outstanding leadership skills, and commitment to her position make her the perfect candidate for this award.

As an advisor, I have been able to get to know Becca over the past four years. I have seen her grow from a dedicated council member as a first-year student into the driven, knowledgeable, and passionate NCC she is today. Although Becca exhibited strong leadership skills from day one, she has truly grown as a leader and individual through RHA. Becca’s undying passion for ASU, RHA, and IACURH are evident in all that she does, but is most commendable in the way she develops and recognizes others. I know many students who credit their ongoing involvement with RHA to Becca’s encouragement and leadership.

Becca has found the perfect balance of silliness and professionalism in her role as NCC. She is fun to be around, and makes sure everyone feels welcome and has a voice. She represents ASU-Tempe with pride and strives to ensure that emerging leaders have the opportunity to grow through conference attendance and regional involvement. With Becca as our NCC, our students have a better understanding of IACURH and the ways that they can make and impact. Last year, when ASU-Tempe hosted No Frills 2015, Becca served as a Conference Chair as our Regional Information Liaison. Becca fostered positive relationships and ongoing communication between the IACURH Regional Board and the No Frills Chairs and ensured that the Site Visit and Pre Conference were planned and executed seamlessly. Despite the hiccups of conference planning and execution, Becca shined in her role and maintained a positive attitude.

As an NCC and E-Board Buddy, Becca is a creative problem-solver; whether it is looking at a program from a different perspective, or providing heart-felt life advice, Becca can be counted on to listen and help as best she can. She puts her 100% of her heart into everything she does and encourages others to do the same. Although Becca lives and breathes RHA, she balances her commitments with her coursework and continues to excel academically. I’m so excited to see Becca transition from a student leader into a student affairs professional in the near future—her impact and legacy is only just beginning.

I can proudly say that Becca is, without a doubt, one of the most dedicated student leaders I have had the honor of working with; I cannot think of anyone more deserving to be named the IACURH National Communications Chair of the Year!
