ABOUT NAAUC The National Association of Australian University Colleges (NAAUC) was founded in 1968 with the goal to provide a forum for tertiary leaders living on campus around Australia to foster positive culture and growth nationally and in their respective communities. What begun off 50 years ago as a simple meeting between Student Club presidents in Canberra, has now grown into an organisation that represents the 70,000 students living on campus today. NAAUC is run by passionate youth leaders whose aim is to advocate as the peak representative body for those living in tertiary residences on campus. By implementing initiatives and facilitating professional development of our peers, in areas such as leadership, event management and pastoral care, we strive to inspire meaningful social change.

“Our vision is to empower every student to develop supportive, inclusive environments.” NAAUC is committed to young people and their capacity to create change. We do this by empowering students to stand up, step forward, and lead the way for residences around Australia. We seek to elevate the levels of best-practice training for students in leadership and pastoral care roles. By compelling students to critically assess the way residences are run we aim to highlight the problems they face and engage in realistic solutions. We support individual students and student clubs alike, offering counsel in potential crisis situations. By drawing on vast residential leadership experience, through both our current executive and alumni base, we’re able to advise on solutions to issues that arise year round. We seek to engage with the wider community, contributing to policy advice with key stakeholders on relevant topics.

NATIONAL CONFEREN EACH YEAR OUR CONFERENCE ATTRACTS DELEGATES FROM ACROSS AUSTRALIA WITH THE AIM TO INSPIRE AND EMPOWER THEM TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN THEIR RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES. AS A DELEGATE, ATTENDEES ARE ACTIVELY CHALLENGED AND ENCOURAGED TO LEARN, DISCUSS AND REFLECT ON THE KEY ISSUES FACING THOSE LIVING ON CAMPUS IN TERTIARY RESIDENCES. THIS COVERS A RANGE OF TOPICS, INCLUDING STUDENT WELLBEING, DIVERSITY AND MEDIA PRESENCE.

NCE THROUGH THE WEEK, ATTENDEES ARE AUDIENCE TO INSPIRATIONAL GUEST SPEAKERS, INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS, AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS, INVOLVING PROFESSIONALS WITH A VARIETY OF EXPERTISE IN FIELDS RELEVANT TO THE INDUSTRY. FURTHERMORE, CONFERENCE INCLUDES AN INNOVATIVE SOCIAL PROGRAM. THE EVENTS THAT COMPRISE THIS DEMONSTRATE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS COVERED, MODELING ACTIVITIES THAT ARE BOTH INCLUSIVE AND ENTERTAINING.

NAAUC ON THE ROAD
2018 is looking like a spectacular year for our outbound NAAUC On The Road Program. NAAUC On The Road is designed to help bring back the skills learnt and discussions had at Conference to residences who couldn’t attend the National Conference, or to ensure that residents are exposed to sessions included in discussion. For many years, NAAUC has assisted in leadership training, and providing practical skills for students across the country to plan for their year, refresh their skills, or prepare them for leadership roles. One thing that makes student clubs inherently fragile is the 1 term structure of the student committees. Through our On The Road programs, NAAUC aims to buffer this vulnerability by arming students with the best skillset to perform their roles. If you wish to enlist the help of NAAUC for your residence, be it training for your leaders, facilitating a college-wide discussion, providing workshops to problem-solve situations, we have a broad range of seminars and workshops that may address your needs. STATE SUMMIT Our State Summit are a great way for students to experience academics and forums similar to what our annual National Conference has to offer, whilst giving you the chance to meet student leaders locally. NAAUC State Summit provide an opportunity for student leaders living on campus to connect with and engage the NAAUC community in their state or territory. Attendees will be offered a handful of seminars about confronting pressing challenges they may face on campus. They will also have the opportunity to engage in a facilitated discussion about these challenges with NAAUC representatives, industry experts, and their peers from other local residences. Leaders are welcome to attend independently or on behalf of their residence. Those that attend will be encouraged to challenge themselves and their perceptions, and to build relationships within their region that will stand them in good stead for National Conference and beyond.

ADVICE, SUPPORT AND REFERRAL
With the extensive experience of our team across the nation, we have the knowledge, diversity and access to people who have experience in a number of residential communities. Whilst NAAUC openly acknowledges that no two residences are the same, we encourage members to tap into our experience as a resource to provide effective and applicable advice. NAAUC can also assist you in resolving conflict by acting as an independent external mediator. As an objective liaison between residential professionals and student leaders, NAAUC can help to bridge the gap in the event of a conflict and help both parties develop a mutually beneficial solution. Furthermore, for any issues beyond our advice, we can put you in contact with professionals, many of whom are NAAUC alumni, who may be able to provide assistance with the initial steps, without charge to your student club.

‘ N A AU C TA L K ’
NAAUC publishes a quarterly e-magazine titled ‘NAAUC Talk’ which is distributed to over 15,000 recipients, making it the best national student forum for on campus living. The publication features articles from student leaders and NAAUC executive on topical issues. We also want to showcase the initiatives and events happening at your residence, so we encourage you to send us interesting and relevant articles. As a source of advice and information, NAAUC Talk achieves strong penetration into tertiary residential environments nationwide.
SOCIAL MEDIA.
As our membership base is made up of students, NAAUC utilises social media in the form of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as means of communicating. Our network experiences constant student feedback and discussion on current issues experienced in residences around Australia. This style of communication is very effective and ensures that messages to our members are received instantly. Not only this, but many use our pages as a forum to ask questions and find out specific information from our organisation about residences and colleges in certain areas.
