Wayne Gretzky Estates Whisky Oak Aged Chardonnay 2019

$18.95 750 ml

Chardonnay grapes were harvested from vineyards within the Niagara Peninsula and aged in both American and French oak. A portion of the wine spent two months with our Red Cask whisky oak. This medium-bodied Chardonnay is smooth and refreshing with notes of orchard fruits, spice, toasty oak, and vanilla bean. Enjoy this wine slightly chilled with turkey pot pies, rich lobster dishes, mushroom risotto, or creamy pasta dishes.

WINEMAKER’S NOTEBOOK The team is starting to wind down after an intense harvest over the past two months. They’ve been working around the clock pressing grapes and getting the juice into tanks, performing punch downs, and racking the wine into barrels. Quality is looking good so far despite the bunch of rain we had to work with from the end of September onward. It’s never too early to think about Icewine harvest – we are continually monitoring those grapes and ensuring the netting is holding up in the vineyards.

Winemaker’s notes: A classic blend of 63% Cabernet Franc, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Merlot, all harvested from vineyards within the Niagara Peninsula. The individual wines were aged for 6 months using American and French oak before the blend was created. A full malolactic fermentation was completed. A portion of the blend spent 2 months with additional French and American oak, and another 25% spent 1 month with our ‘Red Cask Whisky’ oak, which adds punch and power to the mouth-feel, increased ageability, and subtle notes of Red Cask Whisky.

Flavour profile: Bright purple garnet in colour with a rich, warming bouquet of ripe dark plum, black cherry, sweet spice, oak, tobacco, and a touch of whisky spice. This red blend has soft drying tannins and fruit-forward flavours of black cherry, black currant, blackberry, spice, vanilla bean, and cocoa powder.

Notes of black tea, black fruits, and sweet spice linger on the drying finish.

Best served: Serve at a cool room temperature of 17 to 18°C. Drink now to 2026 served with aged cheddar and gouda; seared red meats with rich red wine reductions; pot roast; bean and mushroom stews and grilled Portobello mushrooms with a drizzle of aged balsamic.

Winemaker’s notes: Harvested from vineyards across the Niagara Peninsula.

A blend of 53% Viognier, 15% Riesling, 13% Chardonnay, 13% Pinot Gris and 6% Muscat. The Viognier, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay were barrel fermented and aged for 6 months in 100% French oak barrels. The Riesling and Muscat were fermented and aged in stainless steel to enhance fruit expression. The wines were blended prior to bottling.

Flavour profile: Clear and bright with a straw-yellow hue, the bouquet showcases notes of melon, peach, Bartlett pear, mandarin orange, and honeysuckle. This white blend has a refreshing mouthfeel and a medley of orchard fruit flavours.

Tangy citrus, green apple, golden kiwi, and floral notes linger on the finish.

Best served: Serve chilled at 10 to 12ºC to enhance the refreshing acidity of this wine; or serve slightly warmer at 13 to 15ºC to allow for rich fruit development and a softer mouthfeel. Enjoy while young and fresh served with roast chicken, turkey or pork; light cream sauces on seafood and pasta; buttery baked potatoes and lightly spiced crab cakes.
