With an abundance of beautiful locations on offer on the Sunshine Coast, it is no wonder the region is the ideal wedding destination. My Weekly Preview has compiled this feature to assist couples, no matter where they are on the road to planning their wedding, with tips, style and destination inspiration.

ow that the dust has settled on the big announcement, it’s time to start thinking about which services you would like to engage to help you bring your big day to life. Even if you are a hands-on, DIY bride, you will still need to think about a celebrant and a location for your wedding. On the other hand, you may want to be less involved and employ a wedding
planner to do the majority of the coordination. Then there is the celebrant, venue coordinator, florist, photographer, videographer, entertainment and cake maker to name but a few of the other professionals you might choose to call on. No matter which side of the fence you are on, it is crucial to find suppliers that not only provide you with the product or service you need, but who also connect with you on
a personal level. This is important because you will need to be able to communicate easily with one another so no messages are misinterpreted and everyone is always on the same page. YOUR PERFECT WEDDING SUPPLIERS
STEP 1: START THE SEARCH
STEP 2: JOT NAMES DOWN ON A LIST
You can start by paying close attention to advertisements in local media or bridal magazines and even talking to friends of family members who have had weddings in the past 12 months (they will probably love the opportunity to recap their big day) to see if there are any immediate stand-outs for you. Heading straight to the internet can be great for inspiration when it comes to themes, colour schemes and what is on trend and you may start to see some local suppliers’ names keep popping up with styles that you envisage for your big day.
Whether you create your own wedding website, have a wedding book or a simple notepad, start recording the details of suppliers you like the look of or who have been recommended. You may find the same suppliers keep appearing on your radar, so it makes sense they will be one of the first that you connect with.
STEP 3: SEEK OUT AN EXPO Expos can be busy and bustling, but they negate the need for endless Instagram scrolling, because you can speak with and
view the work of dozens of suppliers all in one place. There are several wedding expos across the Coast each year, so do a quick search to see if one is happening near when you hope to start your planning – you may just be able to knock over steps one and two at once if you attend an expo.
You will quickly be able to tell if the supplier is the right fit for you by gauging how connected they are with you vision and how easily you can talk to one another. At this early stage, monogamy is not essential, so feel free to meet with as many suppliers as you need to until you find ‘the one’.
STEP 4: CONNECT WITH YOUR FAVOURITES
STEP 6: TIME TO THINK DOLLARS Now that you have some frontrunners, it’s time to consult the wedding budget you and your fiancÊ would have discussed before this planning adventure began. If you absolutely love a certain supplier, but their fee is just outside your grasp, look at other areas you can chip away at in order to secure them for your wedding. Also, bear in mind the majority of suppliers will require a deposit to secure your booking.
Most suppliers will have an enquiry form you can fill out online to see if they are available for your wedding date and this is also an opportunity for you to start working out how much they will charge. If they don’t, send an email with as much detail as you can possibly give at this early stage of planning to save you from several to-and-fro emails to get the answers you seek. Or, go old school and pick up the phone to speak with them directly.
STEP 7: LOCK THEM IN STEP 5: LET THE SPEED DATING BEGIN
Once you are satisfied you have found a supplier who is as passionate about your ideas as you are, they are available on your planned wedding day and within your budget, be sure to lock them in by paying your deposit. This is when you can begin to turn your ideas into a reality.
There may already be a clear winner for you in one or two categories, but if there are still several options on the table, the best way to whittle them down is to meet with them in person.

This is where couples schedule time before the ceremony to meet with each other, check each other out and even have photos before the big reveal to their guests.

MISMATCHED BRIDESMAIDS Mismatched bridesmaids are continuing to trend this year, with more brides thinking of the comfort and style of each individual rather than desiring a matching set. Brides can opt to select one colour and give bridesmaids a choice on the style. Or, like these fairytale-inspired Le Marais Collection dresses from Julie-Ann Boutique, they can choose one style and give the bridesmaids a choice of colour.
SUGARING Touted as being less painful than a traditional wax treatment with a better finish, sugaring has become the number one pre-wedding beauty procedure requested at Stacey’s Beauty Touch. Owner Stacey Richardson says eyebrow threading and CND Shellac nails are also popular pre-wedding services.

MAKEUP HIGHLIGHTS Sunshine Coast hair and makeup stylist Emily Glasson says brides are cutting down on foundation bases and this year will favour contouring to highlight cheekbones, with striking eyes. “Copper, champagne shimmer shadows and earthy brown smoky tones are the hot colours,” Glasson says. “Lots of lashes with sculptured full and filled in eyebrows frame the face. Lips are fresh gloss corals and nude when smoky eyes are the feature, or full red matte lips with more fresh champagne shimmer when the eyes have earthy natural tones.”

No longer just for birthday parties, drip cakes have taken over the wedding realm.
UNIQUE RINGS The Halo feature on engagement rings has been huge throughout 2016 and looks to continue, says Samantha Smith of K Smith and Son. “Shapes like cushion cut and pear shapes are high on the radar as they are left of centre, but still classic and beautiful,” she says.
Men are also looking for something just as significant and special and are thinking outside the box when it comes to style.
Whether teamed with an off-the-shoulder design or peekaboo lace sleeves, brides will be looking more demure with high necklines. 2017 designs are favouring plunging backs and can also feature invisible lace designs for a truly extravagant feel. Boho Bride The boho style is inspired by the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. To create this look, we design loose flowing curls to frame the face in combination with a soft plait to pin the hair back. Adding braids and floral expression is a personal choice, giving each bride an effortless beauty. The low, messy bun If a bride is considering an up-style for her wedding, a low bun is a timeless option. Using a chigon-style bun is a more sophisticated approach. This classic style is created by delicately interweaving and pinning the hair into a knot at the back of the head. For a more
playful look, a braided up-style bun is a gorgeous option. Braiding the hair to one side, the style is created when the hair is pulled and pinned at the nape of the neck. Classic half-up, half-down curls The beautiful thing about this style is it can be complex, or if the bride wants something simple, it can still make a statement. The look is created by pinning half of the hair up and allowing the rest to flow down. Key elements can include braids, French twists and clean cascading curls with plenty of volume.
