With the weather warming and the season changing, now is a great time to get to work on creating your own piece of paradise at home.

LOVE YOUR LAWN

Spring is a time to pay extra attention to your plants and lawn. Your plants will require extra feeding as they bloom and grow, while your lawn will benefit from specialised high-nitrogen fertiliser. Be sure to talk to your local nursery or lawn expert before using the fertiliser to make sure you know how best it is used, and also how to use it safely. Spring plantings

Garden design expert and celebrated horticulturalist Matt Leacy, co-founder and lead designer of the award-winning Landart Landscapes, says spring is a great time to sow new seeds and plant cuttings. “Plenty of different plant types can be given life, and moderate weather conditions usually allow new plantings to find their feet before the hot summer sun comes into full force,’’ he says. “With the heat that we know is coming in mind, if you’re looking to establish new plants in the garden, you’d be smart to consider water-wise options. This means working with plants that are hardy and sun-tolerant, and require minimal watering.” Matt Leacy’s water-wise plant suggestions: Agave, dragon trees, tree aloes, succulents including crassula, carpobrotus, aloes, senecio, sempervivums and sedums. REST AND RELAX

Numerous studies have shown that spending time outdoors is not only good for our physical health, but also for our mental wellbeing. The key is to surround yourself with a combination of natural elements such as grass, plantings, birdlife, water and raw materials, as well as elements that provide comfort and inspiration, including artwork, cushions with a pop of colour, or a piece of furniture that you love. The Chelsea four-piece lounge setting (pictured) is a favourite of ours for creating a relaxed yet elegant retreat for an afternoon coffee or family brunch. The setting comprises a three-seater lounge, two armchairs, five bolster cushions and a coffee table. It’s from Domayne, Maroochydore Homemaker Centre.

tip

The experts at Sunshine Mitre 10 recommend transferring plants or even seedlings from pots and punnets to your garden bed during spring with a little care. Always moisten the roots and soil completely before planting, and wait until evening to plant them. Increasing moisture and avoiding the hot parts of the day help reduce plant shock.

Spring, inspired.

SIMPLIFY and connect

Following months of industry research, Dulux has released its colour forecast for 2022 and, unsurprisingly, it reflects our desire to simplify our lives and boost our connection with nature, people and the experiences that matter most. Comprising three palettes – Restore, Flourish and Wonder – the forecast sets the tone for design for the next 12 months. We have drawn inspiration from the Wonder palette to find decor that will brighten your home for spring through to summer.

Adding flowers to spaces outside the living room can enhance these areas and make them more welcoming.

THE PALETTE Dulux describes Wonder as “a palette of unbridled joy”, featuring light pastels and playful, summery hues such as cornflower blue, lilac, lemon, green quartz and rose gold. Together, they evoke a cheerful and optimistic feel with a clear message: better days lie ahead. Combinations highlight the whimsical nature of this look; think quaint florals with eclectic colours and checks paired with sleek, contemporary furniture; needlepoint cushions and fluted glass; or woven rattan furniture set against a wall of candy stripes. Furniture is sustainably sourced or made from recycled materials, underpinning the belief that we all share the wonders of our beautiful planet with a hopeful vision.

PLUNDER

Inspired by the 1980s, the Dulux palette consists of 12 colours and is a playful mix of cornflower blue, lilac, lemon, green quartz and rose gold. Pictured above are three of our favourite hues.

Sweet interior décor for the flower season

Image and product from Fantastic Furniture.

The much-awaited season of bloom is finally here, and we can’t get enough of it! The new season has brought its freshness and lightness, the perfect elements at the end of what seemed like a long winter. The only thing you need now is some spring décor to integrate the season’s happiness inside your home.

Tropical patterns are refreshing because we automatically associate them with relaxation, vacation, and perfect weather. If you want to augment that refreshing spring feeling, some tropical-inspired decoration pieces, wallpapers, or faux plants will make for the ideal additions.

How you incorporate the season’s aesthetic depends on various factors like your personal sense of style, trends, interior design themes, etc. However, you can also make some foolproof decisions that will brighten up every corner.

Following are excellent examples of evergreen spring décor trends that you can choose from when setting up your house to welcome your favourite season.

Textures are the ‘IT’ thing for 2021 interior décor trends. However, you can always vary slightly to make things look a little different during spring. Instead of keeping the textures you chose for winter, get lighter coloured natural textures.

Lighter natural textures are perfect for the season because they reflect sunlight and give the house a calming ambience.

COME IN & SEE OUR HUGE DISPLAY AREA

This season of Channel 9’s much-loved home renovation program is combining comfort with luxury. We take a look at some of our favourite bathroom designs. SKYLIGHTS Skylights are a great way to introduce light, and give the illusion of space, to your bathroom. They are also a great addition if you are unable to have regular windows to ensure natural light shines into the space. Pictured below is Ronnie and Georgia’s stunning bathroom. The overhead skylights provided great natural illumination to their stunning feature tiles. RAIN SHOWERS Who doesn’t love a rain shower? It’s a small price to pay for a lot of luxury, and is one element proving popular in this season of The Block. We love this aged brass wide-headed shower featured in Mitch and Mark’s guest bathroom. It perfectly complements the bold tile.

COLOURED SINKS According to design experts, coloured bath fixtures and fittings in blushes, pastels and pinks are making a big comeback. The good news is that coloured concrete fittings are starting to become a little more affordable. Sinks in particular can take your bathroom from a standard, classic design to the next level of sophistication. Pictured is the pale blue sink used by contestants Kirsty and Jesse. It’s simple and yet changes the entire mood of the space.
