very police department is judged by the level and type of crime committed in its community. At the beginning of 2025, I challenged my leadership team and our officers to make substantial reductions in crime. I am proud to report that the men and women of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) delivered on that challenge. In 2025, violent crime declined by 4.3%, and property crime declined by 9.4%. I also asked our team to take a whole-ofagency approach to reduce officer-involved shootings. Through more focused training and improved supervision, LVMPD achieved a 58% reduction in officer-involved shootings. LVMPD’s Homicide Section remains second to none, with consistently a 95% or above solve rate almost every year. Last year, I challenged the agency to reduce the total number of homicides to under 100. When I took office three years ago, we recorded 158 homicides. In 2025, we ended the year with 90 — a 43% decrease. Domestic violence remains one of the leading drivers of homicide, and it will continue to be an area of focus in 2026. One area where we did not see the same level of success was traffic fatalities. You are more likely to die on our roads driving to and from work than to become the victim of an act of violence. This is not just a Metro issue — it is a community issue. I am working in partnership with the city and county to examine every option to make our roadways safer. In September 2025, LVMPD launched the LIFE Squad (Lives Improved, Fatalities Eliminated), assigning two officers from each area command to focus on traffic enforcement. Since its launch, the team has helped decrease traffic fatalities by 18%, while citations have increased by 60%. In the coming year, I am requesting additional officers for our Traffic Bureau.

I intend to make LVMPD the most technologically advanced police department in the country. In 2025, we launched a fleet of Cybertrucks and unveiled a new drone operations center featuring drones as first responders. Through private donations, we are leveraging technology to reduce crime and improve officer safety.

We will also introduce Project Meridian. We have learned that instability overseas does not remain overseas. Project Meridian will expand our homeland security capabilities by establishing a 24/7 global intelligence and counterterrorism function to protect Southern Nevada. We must be able to identify and prevent threats before they reach our community.

In 2026, the department will launch two significant initiatives.

After going two years without a suicide within our department, we are advancing toward a proactive “Wellness 2.0” approach for our employees. This includes early identification of concerns, resiliency training, emotional regulation, and stress management beginning in the academy. Our seven clinicians currently serve more than 450 employees, family members, and retirees each month. My expectation is that every LVMPD employee brings humanity to everything they do. When we treat our officers better than ever before, they will, in turn, serve our community better than ever before.

First, LVMPD plans to be among the first law enforcement agencies in the nation to build its own AI-driven system, the K.V.N. Project (Knowledge, Value, and Network). This technology will securely integrate departmental systems, allowing information to flow efficiently and intelligently. This “AI brain” will enhance investigations by linking current crime data - such as modus operandi, suspect descriptions, vehicles, and locations - with historical data. For example, it could identify patterns connecting a recently released offender to a new series of similar crimes.

rom the peaceful mountain scenery of Mount Charleston to the elegant desert backdrop of Red Rock Country Club, Chasidy and Christopher’s wedding on February 26, 2026, was a celebration filled with beauty, faith, gratitude, and genuine joy. Surrounded by family and close friends, the couple created a day that reflected not only their love for one another, but also their deep gratitude to God for bringing every detail together in a way they describe as nothing short of a blessing. The ceremony took place high in Mount Charleston, where towering pines, crisp mountain air, and breathtaking views created a setting that felt intimate and serene. Beneath clear blue skies, guests gathered on a sunlit wooden deck overlooking the mountains as the couple exchanged vows surrounded by nature and the people closest to them. The peaceful atmosphere and dramatic scenery created a perfect balance of elegance and warmth, allowing every moment to feel personal and meaningful. At the center of the ceremony stood a beautifully designed floral arch draped in flowing white fabric and accented with lush white roses and greenery. The clean and romantic design blended naturally into the mountain setting while adding softness and sophistication to the ceremony space. As worship music played and the bridal party made their entrance, the atmosphere felt emotional, welcoming, and deeply centered on faith.

For Chasidy and Christopher, the day represented more than a wedding celebration. Throughout the planning process, they openly shared how strongly they felt God’s guidance, provision, and blessing over the entire experience. Christopher complemented the occasion in a sharp black tuxedo that added a classic and refined touch to the ceremony. Standing together against the backdrop of Mount Charleston, the couple created striking portraits that perfectly captured the elegance and emotion of the day. THE TRUE TASTE OF THE SOUTH

Since a young age, John Holland, Executive Chef and Owner of Rollin Smoke Barbeque, knew that cooking was in his bones. Growing up, John would ask his mother to prepare the Thanksgiving desserts, and even grilled for his friends and co-workers after long days in the Arkansas oil fields.

t only 24 years old, John decided to pursue his culinary dream and move to Las Vegas to attend La Cordon Bleu.

John soon realized that not a single BBQ restaurant around the valley resembled the true Southern roots of home. He decided it was time to take his mobile smoker/grill to the side of Russell Road, in a hardware store parking lot with his dad and brother to put the true taste of the South in everyone’s mouth. The first day, the team sold 3 sandwiches. The second day, they sold 7 and continued to grow their business, deciding to open their first brick and mortar location in 2012. Shortly after, Rick Harrison and his father became regulars at the restaurant, eventually offering them a partnership in the plaza next to Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. John had no idea that his once small mobile smoker/grill would grow to this extent, and continuously expand. Winning numerous BBQ competitions, receiving national recognition in the top 16 Hottest New Barbeque restaurants, recognition as Top 20 best Barbeque restaurants in the country, being featured on channels like Food Network, Discovery Channel, and many more are just a few of Rollin Smoke’s accomplishments over the years. The meats are smoked with Hickory wood and prepared with the “low and slow” process, and you can taste the love and effort put into the mouthwatering meats at Rollin Smoke. THE DEEP PLANE FACELIFT: Game-changer or Fad? What is a deep plane lower facelift, and is it better than a traditional SMAS lower facelift? Deep plane facelifts (DPFLs) have existed in the surgical textbooks for over 30 years. DPFLs are also known as a “composite lifts”, where both the skin and muscle are lifted as one unit versus those two layers being lifted individually as it is in a SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) Lift. DPFLs have just recently been revisited by the surgical community as a possible better solution to the traditional, SMAS lower face and neck lift. Historically, studies from decades ago that compared the two methods demonstrated that the results were nearly equivalent in most cases, with potentially slightly more improvement in the lower cheeks and nasolabial folds (a.k.a. Smile Lines) with a deep plane facelift approach. It is note worthy that many studies recognized that the patient’s anatomy and the experience of the surgeon was more important than the technique in regards to the overall result. It is critical to appreciate that DPFLs ONLY applies to the lower face/jawline and portions of the midface (cheeks and nasolabial folds), and NOT to the neck itself nor the tissue under the jawbone. The vast majority of plastic surgeons would agree on fact that there is no such procedure named a “deep plane necklift”. Why the resurgence in Deep Plane Facelifting? As is commonplace in today’s world of the internet and social media, DPFLs have gained some popularity driven largely by a small group of physicians in major metropolitan markets, such as NYC and Southern California. It is inappropriate to call it a “resurgence” or “revival”, as the technique was never popular nor commonly performed at any point in time since described over 30 years ago in the textbooks.

In my opinion, the primary reason for the current hype is mainly financial. Plastic surgeons will charge at least double, and often triple, the amount they charge for a time-tested SMAS lower facelift with necklift (>$100,000 in some markets!). This simple fact makes it unaffordable for most patients, therefore making it exclusively accessible to the ultra-wealthy. Whether the results of a DPFL are even better is debatable. What are the risks to the DPFL? Since DPFLs are more aggressive and invasive in nature, the risk of permanent motor nerve injury is unequivocally higher than in a safer SMAS Lift. This type of nerve injury can present as either temporary, or possibly permanent, malfunction of one’s facial muscles (similar to as one would appear after a cerebral stroke). Also notable is that since the deeper tissues of the face are disrupted, the recovery from a DPFL can be up to 50% more than a SMAS Lift.

Unfortunately many patients are now going to be potentially exposed to surgeons performing riskier surgeries all for the sake of chasing “what’s hot” on social media, while charging the patient 2-3x the amount of money. I believe that most of my colleagues probably would provide a better result by just improving and mastering their personal current technique. In my opinion, the higher complication rate, longer recovery, and less accessibility (from an economic standpoint) is a recipe for a procedure that will not gain popularity or become the new standard of facelifting. As a final intriguing point, it is quite ironic that the incision placement on the face and around the ears for a DPFL and SMAS Lift are exactly the same. Thus the patient, nor any surgeon for that matter, cannot tell which technique was exactly performed “under the hood” during surgery.

Finally, the majority (>95%) of DPFLs in the U.S. are performed under general anesthesia since they usually take 4-6 hours to complete. Obviously general anesthesia presents with it’s own set of risks (pulmonary and cardiovascular issues, allergic reactions, and post-operative nausea and vomiting etc.).

So will Deep Plane Facelifting stand the test of time? Classic SMAS Lifts have been the “gold standard” of lower facelifting for multiple decades. They are effective, safe, reasonably affordable, and have a undeniable track record. I’m quite confident that in just a few years DPFLs will join the long and evergrowing list of “once hot” facial procedures that enjoyed a few moments of fame and hype, but fail the test of time. For reference, a few relevant surgical fads in the past decade include buccal fat removal, thread lifting, surgical “lip lifting”, and under eye filler for hollows to name a few.

Why can Deep Plane Facelifting be seen as “Irresponsible”? Currently, my personal fear is that the majority of plastic surgeons in our country have never performed a DPFL, or at best have not performed one the last decade or more.

In the interim, patients will need to decide if they wish to pay 2 to 3 times more for procedure that may yield slightly better results, has a much higher risk profile with longer recovery, and that most patients cannot afford in the first place.

Additionally, since the muscle and skin are moved together in a DPFL, there is less ability to tailor a result for the patient. In contrast, a SMAS Lift provides targeted treatment to both muscle and skin and individually, allowing for better customization.

his marks my fifth MyVegas Magazine cover, and each one has told a different chapter of the same story, a lifelong commitment to advocating for youth within the juvenile justice system and working to prevent children from entering or reenter it in the first place. The youth sitting beside me in the photo where I’m holding my book, Jumpsuit Shackle, represents thousands more whose stories often go unheard. For nearly three decades, I have stood beside youth involved in the system and those standing at the edge of it. These are children who are marginalized, misunderstood, and too often defined by their worst moment instead of their greatest potential. I have attended funerals, watched lives unravel, and have been there through the most horrific tragedies, moments that drive me to give everything. In the Las Vegas Valley, there are approximately 200 open missing juvenile cases. Across Nevada, more than 8,000 children are reported missing each year. Youth with

prior system involvement face significantly higher risks of running away, exploitation, and trafficking. Research published in the Journal of Criminology & Public Policy has found that incarceration significantly increases a young person’s likelihood of dropping out of high school. Education disruption and trauma compound the challenges these youth already face, resulting in more than half of justice-involved youth who never complete high school. Each January, Juvenile Justice Impact hosts its Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Forum, uniting law enforcement, educators, parents, and youth to confront difficult realities. Year-round, we offer workshops on prevention, leadership, and opportunity, while creating exposure to new paths through experiences like STEM-focused on our visit to Creech Air Force Base. On January 26, 2024, Mayor Carolyn Goodman proclaimed Dr. Susan Feneck Day and Juvenile Justice Impact Day in the City

GRILLE TALK Hello Loren, I have a 2011 Honda Odyssey. It has a 6-cylinder engine. I have failed smog multiple times for Codes P0301-P0306 and P0300. I have had numerous repairs performed at a cost of over $3000. A new computer, spark plugs, and coils. All 6 injectors. The timing components were replaced a few months ago. I have 120k on it. My vehicle runs great! It just will not pass smog. Compression is over 180 psi on all 6 cylinders. I change my oil every 4 months with full synthetic. Do you have any suggestions? ~ Smogged out Dear Smogged out, I am not sure of what types of shops you are entrusting. These Honda V-6 engines are valve lash sensitive. When the engine is cold, the valve train contracts. The valves actually sink into the valve seats. The misfires are not harsh enough to feel, but the vehicle’s computer is sophisticated enough to detect them. At 120k, a valve adjustment should have been suggested multiple times if your repair shop is familiar with Honda engines. I hope this helps. ~ Loren
