Mr. Fitzgerald

For the past 18 years, Mr. Fitzgerald has been a Richmond School Board employee in the capacity of head maintenance man of Richmond High School. This year, Fitzgerald is retiring. His employer, the school staff, and students have come to know him as a conscientious and dedicated man.

We will remember him as a person who, during his busy working hours would stop to offer a friendly word of advice or a warm smile. We have come to realize that he is a person who has a tremendous faith in youth - a man who believes that student self responsibility is not a dream but a realistic goal.

It has certainly been an honour and a privilege to have had Mr. Fitzgerald at Richmond High School. We wish much happiness to this man whom we have come to admire and respect.

Everywhere you turn today, you can hear people saying times are changing. "" Our Lindsay, has said this to me almost daily for the past year, and he our system.

But, for things to change in education, its the students who must change first. They must earn what they demand and they must show the responsibility to so deserve them.

This year a few things have changed, and I hope next year they will continue to improve. What it will take is everyone's participation. Each person must decide what he wants and work towards that goal.

I hope the grads will all consider this, because now they are moving into a society that needs improving. To them I send my very best wishes and for the undergrads, I hope in your turn you too will learn to be individuals and not just part of the mass.

Football Team In September, Richmond High School will have a football team. The name of our team will be the Richmond Colts. Mr. Jack Chapelas will be head coach and he will be assisted by Mr. Best, Mr. Stark, Mr. Oye and Mr. Pelling. Mr. Chapelas up to now, has been the back field coach of the Vancouver and District League Champions, and Steveston Packers. Besides the team, we also have a Football Booster Club under the keen leadership of Goldie Semple. We wish the Colts the best of luck in their first year of league play!

Badminton Champs

Richmond is developing the reputation for having first class Badminton teams. For the second year in a row the Vancouver and District Inter-High Senior Badminton Championship was won by Richmond.

Without losing a single game in the entire tournament, Sylvia Chen and Coleen Shrearer won the senior ladies!’ events. Sylvia Chen and Paul Bell won the mixed doubles in a similar fashion.
