TurfMutt’s Pet Safety Tips for the Dog Days of Summer LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The TurfMutt Foundation, which advocates for the care and use of the green space around us for the benefit of people, pets and the planet, offers important summer safety tips for pet parents this summer. “Summer is one of Mulligan the TurfMutt’s favorite seasons because all the opportunities to get outside and spend time in our backyard and community parks,” says Kris Kiser, President & CEO of the TurfMutt Foundation. “But remember, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Also, be mindful when busy lawn and yard equipment is in use.” The TurfMutt Foundation offers the following summer pet safety tips: • Plant for pets. Choose non-toxic pet-friendly plants for your backyard landscaping. The ASPCA has a handy list of safe options here (https://bit.ly/ASPCASafePlantList). • Keep pets (and kids!) away from working equipment. Pets and children should never be around when lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers and other outdoor power equipment are in use. Store all equipment safely out of reach from them, as well.

• Be mindful of heat. Avoid strenuous exercise during peak sun hours and check pavement temperatures before heading out. If it’s too hot for you to touch comfortably with your palm, it can scorch your dog’s sensitive paws. • Provide shade and water. Inside with you is always the safest place for your pet to be. When outside, make sure your dog has access to cool shade and plenty of fresh, clean water to prevent overheating. • Keep aquatic adventures safe. Many dogs love to play in the water, but never leave pets unsupervised near pools, lakes or rivers. Consider a doggie life jacket for additional safety. • Be travel wise. Never leave a pet alone in a parked car and ensure they are safely secured in a cage or harness during summer road trips. Before heading out, make sure your pet’s tags and microchips are up to date in case you get separated. • Be careful around fireworks. Create a secure, quiet indoor sanctuary for your pets during summer celebrations to protect them from the stress caused by loud fireworks.

Give It Your All by Janice R Newman Giving it your all is essential for achieving the best results in every aspect of your life: physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually. But what exactly does “ALL” mean? It means giving total commitment to putting forth your best effort in everything you do. Whether it’s pursuing your heart’s desires, answering the calling on your life, or fulfilling your responsibilities. Whatever your heart desires, do it with ALL your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Success is sure to follow when you do. All areas of our lives are profoundly and directly impacted by the level of effort we invest in them. When we wholeheartedly dedicate ourselves to our goals and endeavors, it ignites a passionate drive within us to achieve what we’ve set out to do. Giving all is crucial to the task at hand. If we only dedicate partial effort, we’ll likely face struggles, discouragement, or even abandonment of our pursuits. To truly give it your all, here are some strategies to pursue your heart’s desires for your physical and mental health, financial stability, and spiritual growth. Physical and Mental Health: Our health is greatly influenced by the choices we make, such as eating nutritious foods, exercising appropriately, avoiding unhealthy habits such as smoking and alcohol, and obtaining adequate sleep. Giving it your all entails committing to your health goals by embracing a balanced diet, eliminating sweets, extra salt, and fatty foods, managing stress effectively, and prioritizing self-care activities. Pursuing your health goals requires you to give it your all to be successful. Chronic stress can take a toll on the body, leading to illnesses, weakened immune systems, and chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Choosing to take care of your physical body and mental health is an investment toward your overall well-being that will directly influence all aspects of your life. Financial Stability: You must make an ALLor- nothing decision when it comes to maintaining financial success and sustainability. Being wise over part of your finances leaves space for waste in the other. Mastering your finances starts with creating a budget, keeping track of income and expenses, and starting a prudent savings pattern. Carefully track ALL expenses and savings, will give a true record of your money allocation. Trying to justify spending a few dollars reduces your savings. RICHARD ZEKVELD A few weeks ago, we were in central British Columbia, Canada, visiting family. It’s a remote and beautiful place with relatively few people and lots of mountains, trees, lakes, and wildlife. And forest fires. It’s been a dry summer, which has made matters worse. One evening, about an hour west of us, a motorhome caught fire on the side of the highway. Within minutes, flames engulfed the surrounding grass and trees and a forest fire was born. By morning, I was told, 250 acres (50 city blocks) were ablaze. This reminds me of a warning from James in the Bible. James 3:5b-9 (NIV84) says, “Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of

animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.” Ouch! This is a devastating critique of our tongues, isn’t it? There are times we use our tongues like knives and delight in doing so. That includes our cyber-tongues on social media. People can tame all kinds of animals, “but no man can tame the tongue,” James laments. Thankfully, there is a great TongueTamer we can turn to. His name is Jesus. He has power to forgive, to tame our tongues, and to turn them to his life-giving purposes. Richard Zekveld, Pastor, Covenant Fellowship Church cfcsh.org

Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: You realtors are peddlers as defined in the teaching manuals. I receive so many cold calls for insurance and postcards from realtors begging for business. We are tired of it all. Have a good day. Answer: Local outreach is different from cold calling. There is a difference between unsolicited calls or texts and information shared by local businesses. The key word is local. At some point, you may need one of these services. Use it if it is helpful. If a postcard arrives, you can read it, keep it for future reference, or simply throw it away. It is meant to provide information, not pressure you. Question: We are thinking of selling our home. We have a newer roof, HVAC system and water heater. Are these considered updates? We have our original kitchen, carpeting,

and bathrooms. Answer: Marketing would describe these as major component updates. However, buyers also look closely at the livable areas of the home. They want to know whether the home has been updated with new flooring, kitchen cabinets, countertops, bathrooms, and similar improvements. Buyers usually evaluate those updates by reading the marketing remarks and viewing the photos. They then decide whether the home is worth seeing in person based on its condition and asking price.
