Aurelio’s Pizza has made the latest and so far, the largest “Business Partner” contribution to the Homewood Historical Society (HHS). Joe Aurelio pledged a $1,000 gift at the recent HHS Annual Meeting and presented the check to HHS officials last week.
“I’ve always been a fan of history, particularly Homewood history,” Aurelio said. “The work of the Homewood Historical Society is important to our community.”
The gift represents a major boost to HHS.
“The generous gift is important to us and it’s equally important to receive the endorsement of this local, historic institution,” said Bob Anderson, president of the Homewood Historical Society. Aurelio’s opened in 1959 and is celebrating their 67th Anniversary in August. Aurelio’s Pizza has played an important role in the history of Homewood and Chicago pizza.
The Homewood Historical Society began its Business Partner program last year and numerous Homewood businesses have become contributors.
“I hope other businesses will also support the work of the society,” Aurelio added. “Preserving local history is important and I appreciate their efforts at doing this.”
The society is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit business and is operated by volunteers and funded by support from the community.

Q. We are selling our home by owner. The time to sell is getting critical for us. We think it is worth what we are asking for it, but it is not selling. What is your opinion on this?
A. First of all, no buyer cares what you think your home is worth, nor do they care how much you owe on it. You have to understand that the home is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay based on the recent sales, current competition & market conditions. And, in most cases, the lender will require an appraisal, which brings us back to recent sales. Appraisers use recent sales of similar properties in determining the value of the home. If your Home appraises lower than the sales price, and you are not willing to sell at the appraised price, then the buyer will not get the loan and your deal is dead. Did you say “then I’ll wait for another buyer?” Well that’s fine except chances are the next appraisal will probably come in the same as the last appraisal, maybe even lower, depending on the market and you’ve just lost all that market time. If you want to sell your home by owner, that’s fine, but you need to figure in the (large amount) of extra time it is going to take to sell your home, because you are reaching such a limited buyer group. Real estate companies reach a much
larger pool of prospective buyers.
Also, why in this sometimes crazy World, would you let strangers walk through your Home? Plus, you don’t even know if they have been prequalified to purchase a home. Realtors know the buyers they are bringing through your Home and these Buyers have been prequalified. Remember, these buyers want to be represented by a Realtor who will protect their interests!
When selling by owner, consider this old saying by economist John Ruskin:
“It’s unwise to pay too much. But it’s worse to pay too little.
When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.”

Object to the Objections!

Have you ever been excited and enthusiastic about a dream, goal, or new opportunity only to hear someone say, “That will never work,” or “You can’t do that”? Maybe the voice came from another person or worst it came from you. Sometimes it’s a spiritual attack designed to discourage or to distract you. No matter where the objection comes from, you need to kill it, because it’s purpose is to stop you from succeeding.
It’s like in a courtroom, attorneys shout, “Objection!” They do it to challenge what is being said, but to also interrupt the flow of the case, or influence the outcome. Similarly, objections show up when we’re working towards something. They interrupt our focus, hurt our confidence, and attempt to derail us. If we’re not alert, these objections can keep us from reaching our goals and God’s purpuse for us.
One source of objections comes from other people. We all know a “Debbie Downer” or a “Ned the Naysayer.” These people (family, friend, or foe) seem to find a problem for every solution. They will tell you that your goals are unrealistic, your ideas are stupid or foolish, or impossible. Sometimes, they mean well and they want to protect you from disappointment, but most times they may be speaking from jealousy or their own past failures. Regardless, don’t allow their negativity to control your decisions or discourage you. It can be life changing.
A second source of objections comes from ourselves. WE are our own worst critics and naysayers. We constantly replay past mistakes, focus on our weaknesses, and convince ourselves that we are not smart, talented, or worthy enough to succeed. Self-doubt becomes a powerful roadblock. While others may criticize us, our own negative thoughts can criticize us every day. When we believe those thoughts, we limit ourselves before we ever take the first step.
The third source of objections comes from Satan.
Jesus warned in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Satan doesn’t want people to succeed, using their gifts, help others, or fulfilling God’s purpose for their lives. The enemy uses fear, temptation, discouragement, and distraction to keep us from our goals. If you’re distracted you’re an ineffective person. If he can’t stop us, he’ll try to delay, discourage, or convince us to quit.
So how do we “object to the objections”?
First, test every objection against the truth. Ask yourself if the criticism is based on facts, fear, negativity, or opinion. Not every objection deserves your attention.
Second, replace negative self-talk with positive and truthful statements. Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” remind yourself, “I can learn, grow, and improve.”
Third, stay focused on your purpose. Don’t lose sight of it. Keep it front and centered. Every worthy goal will face some resistance. Do not allow distractions to pull you away from your purpose.
Fourth, seek wise counsel. There is a difference between constructive advice and destructive criticism. Listen to people who genuinely want to help you succeed.
Finally, pray and trust God. When challenges arise, ask Him for wisdom, strength, and direction. God’s opinion matters far more than the opinions of critics and naysayers or your own.
Objections will always be part of life. People will criticize. Doubts will come and go. The enemy will attempt to distract and discourage. However, we don’t have to accept every objection that comes our way. Recognizing the source of the objection, stand on truth, maintain your focus, and trusti God, then we can confidently object to the objections and move toward the purpose God has for your life

June Is Men’s Health Month: Why Men’s Physical and Mental Health Deserve More Attention
Every June, communities across the United States recognize Men’s Health Month, a national observance focused on raising awareness about preventable health conditions affecting men and boys. The month encourages men to schedule regular checkups, improve lifestyle habits, and speak openly about both physical and mental health challenges.
Health experts continue to warn that many men delay routine medical care, often waiting until symptoms become serious before seeking help. Men in the United States also experience higher rates of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and accidental injuries, while on average living about five years less than women.
One of the most urgent issues connected to Men’s Health Month is mental health — especially suicide prevention. According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Mental Health, men continue to die by suicide at significantly higher rates than women. In 2023, the male suicide rate was nearly four times higher than the female suicide rate in the United States. The data shows that approximately 39,000 men died
by suicide in 2023, accounting for nearly 80% of all suicide deaths nationwide. The suicide rate among men was about 22.8 deaths per 100,000 people, compared to 5.9 per 100,000 for women. Older men, particularly those age 75 and older, continue to experience some of the highest suicide rates in the country.
Mental health professionals point to several reasons why men may be at greater risk. Social stigma often discourages men from discussing depression, anxiety, loneliness, or emotional stress. Many men are also less likely to seek counseling or mental health treatment. Financial pressure, relationship struggles, substance abuse, isolation, and access to firearms can further increase suicide risk.
Organizations promoting Men’s Health Month emphasize that improving men’s health starts with changing the conversation. Encouraging men to talk openly about stress, seek medical advice early, maintain healthy habits, and build stronger support systems can save lives. Even small steps — such as scheduling an annual physical, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, or checking in with a friend — can make a meaningful difference.

America 250 is less than a month away. Our 250th birthday is a great opportunity to look back on that history to celebrate the good, learn from the bad, and, above all, acknowledge the hand of our sovereign God, the Lord of the nations, in our history over these 250 years. Acts 17:26 reminds us that, “From one man [God] made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”
One thing I love about America, that I thank God for, is the U.S. Constitution and, specifically the wisdom and foresight of the founding fathers to enshrine the separation of powers. Powers spread across executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government, and federal, state, and local governments. This arrangement acknowledges the important role of effective government that serves the people. It also recognizes the danger
of concentrating too much power in the hands of one or a few sinful, fallen humans. These basic convictions arise from the Bible’s teaching about the role of human governments and the tendency of fallen, sinful humans to abuse power.
We do not idolize the U.S. Constitution. It is not perfect or infallible. Having a great Constitution does not ensure a nation of fallen humans and its leaders will live up to its core values and decrees. That is evident from our history. All the same, the U.S. Constitution is a brilliant document. We do well to thank God that, in his providence, the constitution has proven fruitful for the well-being of America and its people. It has also been used effectively by people like Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. to hold America and her leaders accountable. The holiday is a day that Americans show respect for the U.S. Flag and what it represents. Since 1777, the design of the flag has been officially modified 26 times. For 47 years, the 48-star flag was in effect. In 1959, the 49-star version became official on July 4. President Eisenhower ordered the 50-star flag on August 21, 1959. Seventeen-year-old Robert G. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elaine D. E. Charmin, nee Withers, age 87, of Schererville, IN, passed away on June 1, 2026.
Elaine led a full and varied life, defined by her warmth, optimism and enduring love for those closest to her. Born in the English countryside, Elaine pursued her studies in London, becoming a Registered Nurse. While in London, she served as a surgical nurse and a visiting nurse, traveling by bicycle across rural England to see her midwife patients. It was in London where she met her husband of over 40 years, Rom Charmin, M.D. Elaine and Rom moved to Australia, where their two children were born. They relocated to Canada before settling in the United States.
Elaine’s friends and family will remember her grace, elegance and welcoming nature. Elaine was also a voracious reader and a passionate student of history. These traits, coupled with her ability to connect with everyone and her fascinating life made her a captivating storyteller. She was truly a delight to talk to. Her parties were legendary.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Vanessa and Hadrian; her grandchildren Noah and Charles; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra (Jim) Twomey and Andrea (Ian) Vickery. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Glenn and Rose Withers.

1 apple, cored and chopped
1 banana, sliced
1-2 dates
1 1/2 cups almond milk
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 pinch cinnamon (optional)
Wash greens. In blender, blend spinach, apple, banana, dates, almond milk and chia seeds until smooth. Add cinnamon, if desired, and blend. Leftovers can be refrigerated 1-2 days.

FSSA To Survey SNAP Recipients About Smart SNAP
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration will conduct the Healthy Food, Healthy Life Survey, to evaluate the impact of the Smart SNAP on June 9, 2026.
This anonymous survey will be offered every six months to SNAP recipients, to gather information about SNAP knowledge, shopping routines, and eating and drinking behaviors.
FSSA will contact SNAP recipients via text message from the phone number 43816 to participate in the survey. The text message will include a link that takes recipients directly to the survey. Participating in the survey is voluntary and will not impact a household’s SNAP benefits.
FSSA will conduct a second in-depth dietary recall survey for a sample of SNAP recipients in 2026 and 2027. Participation in that survey will also be voluntary, and FSSA will recruit volunteers via text message.
