4 Simple Ways to Keep Allergy Season at Bay With warmer outdoor temperatures, many homeowners suffer through longer allergy seasons. In fact, allergy days have increased by 20 days, according to a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences.

Being aware of air quality indexes and limiting time outdoors can lessen exposure to airborne pollutants, but indoor air quality is also a concern. In a report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, levels of indoor pollutants can be 2-5 times higher than outdoor air.

People spend nearly two-thirds of their lives at home, according to Carrier, which developed its Healthy Homes Program to help homeowners create indoor environments that optimize health and wellness. Consider these ways you can combat pollutants where it matters most: your home’s indoor air quality.

Reduce Indoor Pollutants Your home has multiple sources of indoor air pollutants. While avoiding these pollutants altogether is often the best solution, it’s not always possible. However, there are a few ways you can reduce exposure in your home: ban indoor smoking; turn on exhaust fans when cooking; minimize or remove “soft” pollutant gathering surfaces such as decorative pillows, stuffed animals and decorative throws; and regularly clean all heating and air conditioner filters as required or according to manufacturer specifications.

Add Air Purifiers to Your HVAC Unit While air purifiers don’t treat allergies, they can help filter out allergens that can cause allergy symptoms. Homeowners might consider purifiers that are highly effective at capturing particulate.

Free Learning Opportunities Available and Volunteers Needed for the South Suburban College Literacy Tutoring Program South Suburban College (SSC) is seeking participants for the Adult Volunteer Literacy Tutoring Program. The program is structured to train volunteers to become one-on-one tutors for adults needing basic literacy skills. Instruction in basic literacy includes the development of phonetic reading skills, whole language experience, and practical communication skills. Residents can volunteer as tutors and encourage others to take advantage of this free professional development opportunity.

Once certified, SSC’s volunteer literacy tutors visit adult learners at locations in or near their neighborhoods. Tutoring is flexibly scheduled based on the availability of tutors, learners, and tutoring sites. The following areas have been established as tutoring sites: Acorn Public Library, Oak Forest; Glenwood-Lynwood Library; Harvey Public Library; Phoenix Public Library; Calumet City Public Library; Grande Prairie Library, Hazel Crest; Homewood Public Library; South Holland Public Library; South Suburban College Main Campus Library, South Holland; South Suburban College Oak Forest Center Library, Oak Forest; Lansing Public Library; Dolton Public Library; Riverdale Public Library; Blue Island Public Library; Dixmoor Public Library; Tinley Park Public Library; Markham Public Library; Midlothian Public Library; and Thornton Public Library.

SSC’s Office of Adult Education administers the Adult Volunteer Literacy (AVL) Tutoring Program in addition to High School Equivalency (HSE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Basic Education (ABE). These opportunities are made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using state funds designated for literacy.

As time progresses, it seems that people are getting busier and busier and more distracted by technology, activities, social media, etc.

Our time gets consumed by distractions in the world that cause us to get off track, waste time, and become stagnant with our goals and achievements. Time is a valuable commodity that has a limited supply. Time is limited hourly by 60 minutes, daily by 24 hours, monthly by 30 days, yearly by 365 days, and our life is unknown.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven” We’re taught to use our time wisely versus wasting such a precious limited commodity, but how much time do we waste daily, weekly, or in our lifetime that we can’t get back? We spend time on social media, phone calls, watching television, surfing the internet, YouTube, and playing game apps on our phones. Statista.com reports that the average American spent daily in 2022 over two hours watching television and over one hour on social media. Imagine three hours a day that could be utilized to accomplish your goals, take a college class, or be an entrepreneur.

That’s almost 1100 hours or 45 days of wasted time. We can effectively reduce wasted time by eliminating or reducing distractions, setting priorities, and improving our time management skills.

First, you must eliminate and reduce distractions by identifying what are your main distractions. The main distractions are internet surfing, watching television, text messages, emails, and your phone. Our phones are with us 24/7 and it has become second nature to constantly look at our phones for messages, emails, shopping, and social media. Reduce distraction by turning off your notifications on your phone, closing unnecessary browser tabs, minimizing noise, or turning off the television.

Create an environment that’s free from distractions to work on projects and goals. Also, set boundaries with others by communicating your need to have uninterrupted time to focus.

Once distractions are reduced, you can focus on setting priorities.

Stingrays Glide by in Shedd Aquarium’s Stingray Touch Exhibit Reopened for its Tenth Summer Stingray Touch, Shedd’s outdoor touch exhibit home to cownose rays (Rhinoptera bonas), is back for the summer and its tenth annual season. Guests can connect with the soft, supple animals in a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience for a closer connection with nature and wildlife.

During the experience, guests can discover how Shedd cares for the cownose rays as well as other interesting facts about the unique species while reaching into the tropical waters to gently touch the back of a ray. Cownose rays are tactile animals—they naturally school together, brushing up against each other while swimming. This social behavior makes them a perfect fit for handson encounters at Stingray Touch.

Guests also have an opportunity to help feed these flat, pancakelike fish by adding a Stingray Feeding for $5 ($4 for members).

With this add-on to the experience, guests can feed these bottom-feeders a seafood treat and watch them gently bump against each other and their fingers. Feeding is available when Stingray Touch is open, with feeding times between 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Guests can see a Shedd Team Member to add this experience.

Children who choose to participate in a feeding must be older than 6.

Cownose rays are renowned for

their marathon mass migrations. Each autumn, as their summer waters as far north as southern New England start to cool, schools numbering thousands of rays seek warmer habitats in the southern Caribbean, including Venezuela and Brazil. In the Gulf of Mexico, schools of as many as 10,000 rays migrate from the waters off Florida’s west coast down and around to Yucatan. These rays are also found along the coast of West Africa. Moving in huge numbers offers protection from predators such as hammerheads and great white sharks.

Guests can also come eye-to-eye with cownose rays at the Caribbean Reef exhibit. Tiger rays, yellow rays, mangrove whiptails and spotted rays are other stingrays that reside throughout the aquarium.

Prioritizing is probably the single most overlooked important detail in goal setting and achievement. Staying focused on the task at hand becomes daunting and overwhelming.

Prioritize your tasks based on their importance and the urgency of deadlines that need to be met. Focus on high-priority tasks first and allocate a realistic amount of time to work on the tasks. Review your priorities daily. Identify key tasks to accomplish that will make the largest impact in achieving your goals. Make a list of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks and utilize an hourly calendar.

This will help you plan your priorities by allocating dedicated time to the major tasks which will enforce time management.

Time management is essential in controlling your allocated time for accomplishing your goals and saving time. It helps you organize, schedule, and arrange time for different activities; however, time management is not easy. It requires self-discipline and practice to master. Helpful tips are creating a To-Do-List to check off items, assigning dedicated blocks of time for work, meetings, breaks, or leisure activities, and avoiding overcommitting which can bring on anxiety and stress by trying to accomplish too many tasks during the same timeframe. It can improve focus, create time awareness, reduce stress, and enhance worklife balance by getting things accomplished during their appropriate time.

Time is a valuable commodity, but overloading your time can be more harmful.

Wasted time increases because of distractions that take our focus away, not setting priorities for tasks based on their importance and urgency, and failing to implement a structured time management plan and strategies. Those three impeded us from accomplishing tasks and moving closer to our goals. Taking action to enhance the use of our time can lead to personal growth, increased productivity, reduced stress, and achieving your goals more efficiently and potentially quicker. Stop wasting time by improving the use of your time by making the most of it, and create a more fulfilling, happier, and successful life. Y? Why Not!

Heart Smart RICHARD ZEKVELD God is wise. God is also the source of wisdom. Proverbs 9:10a (ESV) tells us “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”

We see God’s wisdom in the way he put creation together.

We marvel at its magnificent and intricate design. All the pieces fit together and work together to support life. He crafted it in such a way that the cosmos is not only functional but also beautiful. That’s wisdom!

Psalm 104:24 (NIV84) exclaims, “How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”

This past Sunday, I asked, “What in this world makes you say, ‘Wow, God! You are so wise!’?” Worshipers piled on with their answers. One young woman mentioned the tilt of earth’s axis, allowing for the rotation of seasons. One man noted the peculiar behavior of water (H2O) in its solid form (ice). Matter is typically least dense in its vapor form, denser in its liquid form, and densest in its solid form. But not water. Ice is less dense than water, which allows it to float. Thank God it does.

One child exclaimed, “I’m glad we don’t live next to Betelgeuse! If the sun was the size of an orange, the star Betelgeuse would be the size of a football field! We’d be scorched if we lived next to Betelgeuse!” Indeed, we would.

Science shows that the number of variables that must work together precisely to support life on Planet Earth is astronomical. There is no way it happened by accident.

May our contemplation of God’s wisdom in creation evoke our praise. May it also inspire in us confidence that we can trust God’s wise design for human thriving in creation and redemption.

Pritzker touts new budget’s higher education spending

By PETER HANCOCK Capitol News Illinois phancock@capitolnewsillinois.com SPRINGFIELD – Governor JB Pritzker began a tour of the state to tout the new state budget that lawmakers passed last week, stopping at two university campuses Wednesday to highlight the spending plan’s increased funding for higher education.

“With this new budget, we’re making it possible for nearly every student from a low, moderate- or middle-income family to go to community college tuition free,” Pritzker said at the University of Illinois Springfield. “Getting a college or university degree shouldn’t strap you in debt for the rest of your life.”

The $50.6 billion budget, which has not yet arrived on Pritzker’s desk, includes a $100 million increase in funding for the state’s needsbased Monetary Award Program, or MAP grants, bringing the total level of funding for that program to $701 million – a 75 percent increase since 2019, when Pritzker first in office.

Pritzker noted that most undergraduate students at UIS start working on their degree at a two-year community college. He said the increase in MAP grant funding will mean that virtually all community college students from households at or below median income levels will have their tuition and fees fully covered between MAP and federal Pell grants.

The higher education budget also includes a $15 million increase in the state’s AIM HIGH merit-based scholarship program and an overall 7 percent increase in the base operating budgets of universities and community colleges.

Pritzker said the increase in base funding was especially important to help schools recruit and retain the best faculty and staff.

“Look what happened in other states, and what happened in Illinois during those bad years five, seven years ago,” he said, referring to the state’s budget impasse of 2015-2017.

“Universities had to either lay off faculty or faculty saw how uncertain funding was and they left. ... Now, because we’re funding universities properly, university professors, faculty, the people who work at universities have less to fear

and more to be optimistic about it.”

In addition to increases in higher education funding, the budget also includes the statutorily required annual $350 million increase in the Evidence Based Funding formula for K-12 schools and $250 million to launch a four-year initiative called Smart Start Illinois that seeks to make early childhood day care and preschool available to every family in Illinois that wants it.

The budget passed through the General Assembly in the final days of their spring session with only Democratic support. Some Republicans, including House Minority Leader Tony McCombie, of Savanna, said they were concerned about whether all the new spending in the budget – including K-12 education and early childhood programs – would be sustainable in future years.

“There’s nothing worse than starting a new program and then having it not be sustainable,” she said during House floor debate early Saturday morning.

Pritzker, however, said his administration used conservative revenue estimates when building his budget proposal, and he said he was confident the new spending could be sustained.

“The baseline revenues of the state have risen,” he said. “There are a variety of reasons for that but one is the economy grew. The Illinois economy used to be $800 billion when I took office, it’s now above a $1 trillion. That gives you at least some idea of why our tax revenues are going up in the state of Illinois, because people are making more money, the economy is doing better.”

After speaking on the UIS campus, Pritzker traveled to the U of I’s Urbana-Champaign campus for a similar event.

At some point, you may have more money in your 401(k) than in any other investment.

And even though your 401(k) is intended for your retirement, you may one day think you have to tap into your account early — but should you? And if you do, how should you go about it?

If it’s possible to avoid taking money from your 401(k) before you retire, you probably should do so. You could spend 25 or more years in retirement, and you’ll need to pay for those years, so you may want to look for alternatives to your 401(k). If you’ve built an emergency fund containing several months’ worth of living expenses in cash or cash equivalents, you could use some of this money. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you could use it to pay for qualified medical expenses. Or you could sell some of your taxable investments, rather than going into your tax-deferred 401(k).

But if you have determined that you must look at your 401(k) plan to meet a shortterm funding need, you’ll want to carefully consider how to go about it. You typically have two main choices: loans or withdrawals.

For plans that allow loans, employees can generally borrow up to 50% of the vested amount of their 401(k)s, up to a maximum of $50,000 within a 12-month period.

Administrative fees may apply, and Interest will be charged, but it will be added back to the 401(k) account as part of the loan repayments. Except when they’re used for a home purchase, loans must be repaid within five years, with equal payments made at least quarterly, unless payments are allowed to be paused temporarily. If you leave the company or don’t repay the loan according to the agreement, the loan balance will likely

be treated as a taxable distribution.

Now, let’s consider withdrawals. For 401(k) plans that allow current employees to make withdrawals, the withdrawal requests are usually considered either hardship or non-hardship. To qualify for a hardship withdrawal, you must demonstrate an immediate and heavy financial need to pay for certain expenses, including a home purchase, college, a medical issue or other specified costs, and your withdrawal is limited to the amount necessary to meet the need. Nonhardship withdrawals can typically be taken for any purpose but usually are not granted until you’re 59½ or older.

Unlike with a loan, a hardship withdrawal can’t be repaid, while a non-hardship withdrawal can usually only be repaid by rolling over the amount to an IRA within 60 days. But the bigger issue may be taxes.

If you withdraw funds from your 401(k), any previously untaxed money is generally taxed as ordinary income and a 10% penalty will apply if you’re younger than 59½, unless you qualify for an exception. Plus, your 401(k) plan typically must withhold 20% of the withdrawal for taxes, so you’d have to take an even larger withdrawal to meet your needs.

Before embarking on a 401(k) loan or withdrawal, you may want to consult with a financial professional and your tax advisor.

Taking money from your 401(k) is a big move, so make sure you know everything that’s involved.

David Alan DeYoung (Dave), age 71, of Chicago IL passed away peacefully in his sleep, just before dawn on May 27, 2023.

Devoted father of Hannah Grace and Katie Hope, former husband of Sharon Caldwell, dear brother of Barb (Harold) Triezenberg and Pam (the late Mark) Luebke, beloved brother in law of Marsha (Mark) Conroy, Thomas (Ann) Caldwell, proud uncle of Matthew (Amanda) Conroy, Nick Luebke, Kayla Luebke, Dawn (Thane) Moore, Dan (Jen) Triezenberg, and Doug (Lisa) Triezenberg.

Nephew of beloved aunts and uncles and cousin to many. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Herb and Geraldine, and by his lifelong best friend, Tom Milanovich. Tom and Dave met before they could walk and over the years became as close as brothers. They shared a love for sports and weightlifting, founding Quads Gym in 1976, in the basement of the home Tom shared with his mother and aunt in Dolton. As their membership grew they expanded, first to Thornton and eventually purchasing a building in Calumet City, which flourished until Tom passed on June 4, 2003.

The pair had started a new Quads Gym location on Chicago’s north side in the late 1980s. Thanks to the support of longtime trainers and members who became dear friends, Thought devastated, Dave kept Quads North going after losing Tom, thanks to support from many longtime trainers and members who had become dear friends, especially the late Dick “Professor” Lietzow and Dave’s right-hand man, Noe Leyva. Outgoing and down-to-earth, warm and friendly, Dave was the kind of guy who never met a stranger. He welcomed all who crossed his path and it was important to him to greet each of his members by name. An accomplished bodybuilder himself, Dave was proud of the fact that some of Chicago’s biggest name professional players chose to work out at Quads.

He was dedicated to the health and wellness of everyday fitness enthusiasts, as well as pro bodybuilders.

Dave’s was the most devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox. Honestly, he was their biggest fan. His passion and love for baseball and the Sox began when he was a little boy. He played throughout high school and advanced to semi-pro, eventually working as a bird dog scout in his young adult years.

Dave loved to talk about the fundamentals and rules of the game, debating strategy and following players closely during the off-season.

He could talk about the early years of the Sox - and baseball in general - with other fans for hours on end.

We are already planning our outing to Sox Park in his honor. At the center of Dave’s life was his faith in God, which he put into action daily. He always willing to put himself out for others. As a dedicated

father and family man, Dave delighted in sharing amusing stories about his beloved daughters. We are shocked and reeling to say the least, because Dave De Young was a fighter!

Sturdy and strong, a force to be reckoned with. We miss his booming voice and his zest for life and we are heartbroken. We really believed he was going to recover and beat this. We love and miss him so much.Thank you to everyone who supported our family over the past 4 months, on Dave’s journey home to meet his Lord and Savior. Special thanks to dear friends Deborah Peterson, DNP, AGPCNP-BC and Chris Costas, MD, for their guidance throughout Dave’s heroic battle. John was a true Patriarch and lived a life of dedication to his family. His family was his world, and his Irish wit was legendary. While raising a family, John was a dedicated employee at Walsh & Kelly as a Sales Manager and Corporate Secretary and in his later years as a consultant for Site Services until 2022.

He was actively engaged parishioner and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Parish in Dyer.

Some of his civic duties included volunteer Dyer Fire Department & Police Commissioner, 4th degree Knights of Columbus, long time Board Member of the Friendly Sons of Erin and former member of the Dyer Lions Club. In his free time, he loved going to see his grandkids activities, playing golf, and an avid fan of the White Sox and Notre Dame.

John was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

92-Year-Old Playing Piano at Schererville Church

By Woodrow Wilcox On May 22, 2023, Carol Comstock became 92 years old. She has been playing the piano since age 4 and the organ since age 12. Now, she regularly plays the piano for Grace Baptist Church in Schererville.

When Carol was 8 and her brothers were 5 and 3, her father would bring the family to a Christian campground in Cedar Lake every year for a family vacation. That is now under Cedar Lake Ministries in Cedar Lake. For years, Carol lived in Illinois but regularly visited Cedar Lake.

Carol and her husband lived in Illinois until they retired to Cedar Lake in 1983. As a volunteer, she played the piano and the organ for the Christian camp in Cedar Lake. She met the minister of the Lutheran Church in Schererville at a funeral where she played the organ. He asked her if she could play the organ at his church. She agreed to do that and did it for twelve years.

When the Lutheran church building was sold to Grace Baptist Church, Carol wrote a letter to the new pastor and offered to continue playing the piano or organ for the new church. Pastor David Douglass talked with her and thought that she would be wonderful as the church pianist or organ player.

The church is located at 2010 Peace Parkway Court in Schererville. Pastor David Douglass is the former President of Hyles-Anderson College. He and his wife Tina started the church with meetings in a rental space at the Hampton Inn in Schererville. Then, the Lutheran Church became available and Grace Baptist Church bought it.

Carol grew up in a one room school house for grades 1 through 8 in “the country”. It was a Lutheran school. While her husband owned a business in Illinois, Carol played the piano and organ at La Grange Bible Church in La Grange, Illinois for 66 years.

Pritzker touts new budget’s higher education spending

By PETER HANCOCK Capitol News Illinois phancock@capitolnewsillinois.com SPRINGFIELD – Governor JB Pritzker began a tour of the state to tout the new state budget that lawmakers passed last week, stopping at two university campuses Wednesday to highlight the spending plan’s increased funding for higher education.

“With this new budget, we’re making it possible for nearly every student from a low, moderate- or middle-income family to go to community college tuition free,” Pritzker said at the University of Illinois Springfield. “Getting a college or university degree shouldn’t strap you in debt for the rest of your life.”

The $50.6 billion budget, which has not yet arrived on Pritzker’s desk, includes a $100 million increase in funding for the state’s needsbased Monetary Award Program, or MAP grants, bringing the total level of funding for that program to $701 million – a 75 percent increase since 2019, when Pritzker first in office.

Pritzker noted that most undergraduate students at UIS start working on their degree at a two-year community college. He said the increase in MAP grant funding will mean that virtually all community college students from households at or below median income levels will have their tuition and fees fully covered between MAP and federal Pell grants.

The higher education budget also includes a $15 million increase in the state’s AIM HIGH merit-based scholarship program and an overall 7 percent increase in the base operating budgets of universities and community colleges.

Pritzker said the increase in base funding was especially important to help schools recruit and retain the best faculty and staff.

“Look what happened in other states, and what happened in Illinois during those bad years five, seven years ago,” he said, referring to the state’s budget impasse of 2015-2017.

“Universities had to either lay off faculty or faculty saw how uncertain funding was and they left. ... Now, because we’re funding universities properly, university professors, faculty, the people who work at universities have less to fear

and more to be optimistic about it.”

In addition to increases in higher education funding, the budget also includes the statutorily required annual $350 million increase in the Evidence Based Funding formula for K-12 schools and $250 million to launch a four-year initiative called Smart Start Illinois that seeks to make early childhood day care and preschool available to every family in Illinois that wants it.

The budget passed through the General Assembly in the final days of their spring session with only Democratic support. Some Republicans, including House Minority Leader Tony McCombie, of Savanna, said they were concerned about whether all the new spending in the budget – including K-12 education and early childhood programs – would be sustainable in future years.

“There’s nothing worse than starting a new program and then having it not be sustainable,” she said during House floor debate early Saturday morning.

Pritzker, however, said his administration used conservative revenue estimates when building his budget proposal, and he said he was confident the new spending could be sustained.

“The baseline revenues of the state have risen,” he said. “There are a variety of reasons for that but one is the economy grew. The Illinois economy used to be $800 billion when I took office, it’s now above a $1 trillion. That gives you at least some idea of why our tax revenues are going up in the state of Illinois, because people are making more money, the economy is doing better.”

After speaking on the UIS campus, Pritzker traveled to the U of I’s Urbana-Champaign campus for a similar event.

Op-Ed: A blueprint to better mental health care, access in IL

By Abdi Tinwalla, MD, and Andrew Lancia, MD In all parts of Illinois, mental health awareness and treatment is a public issue like it has never been before. On behalf of frontline care providers, we welcome the attention and call for the support that must follow.

The Illinois Psychiatric Society represents psychiatrists and psychiatric practices across the state, where our members work in private and public settings, see adult and child patients every day, and have the experience, training, and mindset to help people struggling with all forms of mental health challenges.

We are encouraged by the renewed focus at the State Capitol in Springfield and across the state to bring mental health care into the spotlight. Gov. JB Pritzker’s ambitious plans to transform behavioral health services for children, and to coordinate state agencies and higher education institutions behind the new Behavioral Health Workforce Education Center to improve recruitment of professionals are welcome steps forward.

Our mental health care system is in crisis, with access to equal, quality, affordable care a challenge nearly everywhere. We propose a true team approach to the problem. We offer here a blueprint of policy ideas we believe will help address the challenge comprehensively and effectively.

Our first pillar calls for increasing equitable access. Many people in rural, minority, and lowincome communities have some of the greatest needs, yet they have the greatest challenges to see those needs met.

Illinois policymakers should promote more collaborative care programs, where mental health professionals consult directly with primary care physicians to address patients’ physical and mental needs. We should increase and improve laws promoting telehealth which, since the COVID-19 pandemic, has become an increasingly popular option for patients who live many miles from the nearest provider.

We can also add more psychiatrists through funding of more residency training slots right here in Illinois, rather than watching promising students go elsewhere to practice.

Incentives will encourage more providers to work in underserved areas. Smart changes to the administrative side of our practices – full parity for psychiatric treatment, streamlined medication prior authorizations, and improved mental health court equity and access – will

provide the support psychiatrists and other mental health professionals need to succeed.

Our second pillar focuses on systems of care, where all mental health providers work together to meet patients’ varied needs. When one piece of the system is weak, or when providers work outside their area of expertise, the entire system struggles – and ultimately patient care suffers.

Here, we believe stronger communication and coordination is key. Patients often see different providers along their mental health journey.

Those providers – state agencies, public entities, private providers – should work better together to share medical records and insight into patient analysis and recognize the strengths each bring to helping meet patients’ needs. We need to ensure all levels of care are properly staffed to handle all issues ranging from one-on-one counseling to preventing acts of violence.

Our third pillar might be the most consequential to address our crisis: prevention.

We go to the dentist and the doctor regularly for checkups and screenings, or if something just doesn’t quite feel right. Yet too often in our mental health, we wait too long to seek professional help. The problems get worse as we put off the visit – out of fear, embarrassment, or denial.

We believe helping youth understand the importance of mental health care early in life is critical for widespread adoption of prevention.

Increased public education programs on mental health, increased and regular screenings in pediatric and school settings, stronger parent and family engagement in preventative care – all these steps will help students see their mental health as they do their physical health, and develop the good habits that will undoubtedly spare pain and struggle later. We need to recognize the need to promote caring for one’s complete health, as nutrition and physical illness highly affect one’s mental health.

We thank Gov. Pritzker’s team and state legislators for recognizing mental and behavioral health as critical needs that must be addressed now. Protected Crown Point Client From Medicare Goof WOODROW WILCOX On May 30, 2023, I helped a client from Crown Point NOT get stuck with a bill caused by a typical Medicare goof. It did not receive a report from Medicare for any claim(s) from your hospital that resulted in a balance of $1600.

Real Estate Questions & Answers Question: My home is currently for sale.

We are getting a lot of showings, but don’t think my real estate agent is doing enough to get these buyers to write an offer on my home. What is your opinion?

Answer: Not quite sure what the problem is here. Your Realtor is marketing your home properly because you are getting a lot of showings. In order to sell your home, you need buyers to see it.

A good real estate agent should answer all the buyer’s questions, point out the negatives and positives, but allow the buyer to make the final decision on a particular home. There should be no coercion by the agent.

The only problem I see is if you are getting a lot of showings with no offers, then your home price is probably too high. For example, if you go to the clothing store and

are looking to buy a sweater and find that a similar sweater is less expensive and a better value at another store, you are going to that other store to buy it. Same goes with a home purchase.

Buyers will purchase the home they feel offers the best value. The home with the best value will sell before the other homes.

I would suggest stopping the blame game and sit down with your Realtor and look at how your home’s Value compares to other homes for sale.
