SIUE Fall Commencement Graduates List Southern Illinois University Edwardsville completed 2015 Fall Commencement exercises for the 1,101 eligible graduates Saturday, December 19, in the Vadalabene Center on campus. OK, not by much, but what w it h t he d isma l Bea rs season, we have to get our jollies where we can. Let’s all celebrate that the shortest day of the year in Chicagoland was way back on December 5. December 21 is t he day has been celebrated by people a l l over t he Nor t her n Hemisphere throughout history as Winter Solstice. The earth is now tilting back towards the source of all light, heat and sun tans. Since the days are get t i ng longer a nd t he nights shorter, this day marks the victory of Sun over the darkness. I’m sure one of our talented pastors cou ld even ex pou nd on t hat in a sermon in January! For those of you who
a re li ke me, a nd enjoy watching the days getting longer - I’ve found a good sunset website - http:// w w w. s u n r i s e s u n s e t . com. It helps make winter more tolerable. You can check out that sunset on December 5 was 4:20 pm. A ny now get ready for some big fun – the sun will set on December 31 at 4:29! That is a whole 9 minutes of extra sunshine! But wait it gets better – On January 30, the sun will set at 5:30 – a gift of a whole e x t r a h a l f-hou r to do whatever you want with. Of course most of us will use it to commute home after work, but at least we will be able to enjoy the scenery. Enjoy the extra sunshine – compliments of our blue planet doing the tilt.
