GSU Hosts Freshman Friday Admission to a four-year university for highly qualified students has been streamlined at Governors State University with a program called Freshman Fridays. Attending the session, providing the appropriate documentation and meeting the qualifications enables graduating seniors to apply to GSU and receive an instant admissions decision on-the-spot. The future GSU students can meet w ith academic and financial aid advisors, take a tour of the university and see what residence hall life is like. To qualify for direct admissions on Freshman Fridays, graduating seniors must meet the following criteria: have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale, have a minimum composite ACT score of 20 with at least a 20 in the English and math components and provide their official high school transcripts and official ACT scores (scores may be posted on the official transcript). Additionally, GSU will waive the application fee for qualified applicants attending Freshman Fridays. The next Freshman Friday will be held on November 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. Prairie State College Speech Team The Prairie State College (PSC) Speech Team placed third in the community college division and earned several individual honors during the recent tournament hosted by Moraine Valley Community College. Pat rick Shea rd of Dolton was na med tourna ment champion in persuasive speaking and received third place in prose. Kelly Crescenzo of Steger was named tournament champion for informative speaking. Daniel Blewitt of Crete received third place for inter-squad improvisational scene. Shania Johnson of Park Forest received fifth place for persuasive speaking. Also competing were Rachel Brooks of Matteson, Caleb D’Amico of Country Club Hills and Anfernee Gray of Sauk Village. The team was coached by PSC Professors Ed Schwarz and Joshua Green. “Overall, our first timers said they learned a lot and are excited to continue competing throughout the year,� Green said.
