Last year Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, brought smiles, laughs and great joy to over 8.6 million children in over 100 countries, who live in poverty, by distributing gift-filled shoe boxes. Most of the children have never received any kind of gift before in their lives, let alone a gift from someone they’ve never met. This organization is looking for individuals, families and groups to pack one or many gift-filled shoe boxes to be sent overseas to these hurting children. For complete instructions on packing a box go to www.samaritanspurse.org. For overseas shipping cost, Samaritan’s Purse requests a donation of $7.00 per box. Your packed boxes can be conveniently dropped off at Village Church located at 14849 93rd. Ave. in Dyer during the National Collection Week of Nov.12-19. For location hours please visit www.samaritanspurse.org.
Illinois Law Now!
Question: What should I know about the laws related to leaf burning? Answer: Homeowners are discouraged from burning leaves and other yard waste by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency even if it is allowed in the local community. The recommendation is due to potential health hazards that can develop from the particles and gases in the smoke. Many communities have banned leaf burning for environmental and health reasons so you should check into municipal and county regulations in your area. Restrictions on burning due to drought conditions that might create a serious fire risk are also common. Alternatives to leaf burning can include composting and mulching. Some communities also offer leaf pickup services. Question: How can I be sure that my relatives won’t bicker about my will and who will inherit my possessions? Answer: Although they can be difficult to enforce, consider having an attorney add a no-contest clause in your will, stipulating that if any relatives raise formal legal objections after your passing, they will be automatically cut out. Then, let your relatives know one-on-one, about the clause. Question: My realtor has said she can handle all the paperwork related to the purchase of my new home without an attorney. Should I be concerned? Answer: The purchase of a home is typically the largest purchase a person makes in a lifetime. Why would you leave anything to chance? Even the most straightforward real estate deals involve important and binding legal documents. Whether you’re a buyer, seller or facing foreclosure, an ISBA member lawyer will work to protect you and your investment. For more information about Illinois law, visit www. illinoislawyerfinder.com.
