Illinois Law Now!

Question: In general, can I trust the legal advice available on the Internet? Answer: Laws frequently differ state by state. Therefore, information posted on a website may not be based on Illinois law or apply to your particular circumstances. If you have a legal question, consult with an Illinois lawyer. Question: I am laid off and unable to pay all my bills. Should I file for bankruptcy? Answer: W hile filing for Chapter 7 or 13 bank ruptcy may relieve you of your debts, it is a step with serious consequences. For example, you may not be able to obtain a loan, or you’ll face higher interest rates. You’ll also have bankruptcy on your credit record for 10 years. Assess the true nature of your financial situation. A bankruptcy lawyer or financial advisor can help discuss your options. Question: What are the advantages of using lawyer-assisted mediation as a way to resolve my legal dispute? Answer: Mediation is a formal way to resolve a dispute without a formal court trial. Generally, mediation is less time-consuming, more cost-effective and a non-adversarial, confidential process where an objective third-party mediator helps the disputing parties resolve their differences. Some court systems have mediators who are certified in a particular type of law. For more information about Illinois law, visit w w w. illinoislawyerfinder.com.
