Question: What legal options do I have to collect unpaid child support? Answer: Most Illinois child support is collected through income withholding. But other methods include “freezing and seizing” bank accounts. The law allows for professional and occupational licensing agencies to suspend or revoke licenses of a parent until child support is paid. Non-payment of support ordered by the court can be Contempt of Court and the non-payer can be jailed until he/she purges the contempt by payment. Question: Must an employer provide a female employee who is nursing with break time to express breast milk? Answer: The Illinois Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act requires an employer to provide reasonable, unpaid break times each day to an employee who needs to express breast milk for nursing her child. Pumping breaks must be at the same time as regular breaks already provided, if possible. An employer is not required to provide break times if it would disrupt the employer’s business operations. Under federal law, employers must provide not only time but a private area other than a toilet stall for an employee to express breast milk. Question: If a person receives a traffic citation, can he or she post a driver’s license as bail? Answer: Not any longer. A new law that goes into effect in January 2015 requires only a signature on a citation as a promise that the offender will follow court orders.
