Pregnancy Aid South Suburbs (PASS network for life) is seeking volunteers for their Lansing and South Holland pregnancy centers. The Lansing center is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12 noon - 6 p.m. and the South Holland Center is open Monday through Thursday, 12 noon - 6 p.m. PASS is seeking willing hands and hearts to advocate to clients, as wel l as Spa nish spea k ing indiv idua ls. Additionally, the South Holland PASS Center is need of a trained ultrasound technician. The next Volunteer Tour & Orientation meeting will be held at the Tinley Park PASS Center, located at 17214 Oak Park Avenue at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8th. Humane Society Calumet Area (HSCA) hosts its first Bark & Bowl, a night of crazy, cosmic bowling to benefit the animals at HSCA on October 4 from 8 to 11 p.m. at Plaza Lanes, 8101 Kennedy Ave, Highland, Ind. The cost is $30 per bowler, which includes three hours of bowling, shoe rental, and a dessert bar by Gold Star Café and Catering. Bowlers can reserve a lane of 6 bowlers for $160, a $20 discount. Spectator tickets are available for $10. Crazy bowling is bowling with a twist. Each frame presents a different fun cha llenge for bowlers to tr y, including bowling with your eyes closed, bowling backwards between your legs, or bowling on one foot. Bowlers are encouraged to enlist the help of friends, family and co-workers to raise pledges to support the animals of HSCA. All proceeds benefit the animals of HSCA. HSCA would not exist without the generous support of the community. HSCA is a non-profit organization that does not receive any state or tax dollars. HSCA is funded solely through donations and fundraisers. Funds raised help provide medical care and basic necessities for the animals at HSCA. Ticket sales are limited. Draco Academy of Martial Arts will be hosting a free self defense seminar for women. This seminar will be held on Saturday, September 6th, at 11:00 AM in Homewood, IL, and on Saturday, September 27th, at 11:45 AM in Dyer. This is an open to the public event for women ages 16 and older. Each seminar size will be limited to 20 participants, and women who sign up are advised to wear suitable workout attire. The seminar will teach participants how to be more aware in their surroundings, as well as techniques that are used to prevent an opponent’s attack from entering into your sphere of safety.
