Mum Sale Fundraiser

Just in time for fall planting and decorating, Humane Society Calumet Area (HSCA) hosts a mum sale fundraiser to benefit the animals of HSCA. Pre-orders are accepted now through Sept. 5. Each hardy mum costs $9 and comes in a 9-inch pot. Colors available include red, yellow, white and purple. Mums are provided by Bultema Farms. Order forms are available at Humane Society Calumet Area, 421 45th St., Munster, Ind.; Moraine Ridge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, 570 N. 450 E., Valparaiso, Ind. and Paws Resale Shoppe, 8149 Kennedy Ave., Highland, Ind. or online at www.hscalumet.org. The King’s Boulder ARLO KALLEMEYN In a ncient t i mes, a K i ng had a bou lder pl ac e d on a r oad w ay. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the King’s’ wealthiest merchants and cou r t iers ca me by a nd simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way. T hen a pe a s a nt c a me a long c a r r y i ng a load of v e g e t a b l e s . Up on approaching the boulder, t he peasa nt la id dow n his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing a nd st ra ining,

he f i n a l l y s uc c e e de d . After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying i n t he road where t he bou lder had been. The pu rse conta i ned ma ny gold coi ns a nd a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned that every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition. As seen on the world wide web.
