National Honor Society Induction For Broadbent Western Illinois University’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society will hold its 44th annual induction ceremony Sunday, April 17 in the University Union Grand Ballroom. The ceremony recognizes scholarship and undergraduate research award winners. Admission to Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only, and invitations are extended to the top 7.5 percent of juniors, top 10 percent of seniors and top 10 percent of graduate students. We are proud to announce that Amy Broadbent, a graduate student in music of Lansing has made this list.

Library Week The 2016 National Library Week (April 10-16) theme is “Libraries Transform.” The Hammond Public Library, celebrates National Library Week with Spirit Week, library tours, special events and a film series. · Thurs., April 14 is Hat Day. A library tour is offered at 10 a.m. At 6 p.m., a Family Night program, Recycle and Reuse, features information about Earth Day and recycling, and offers the chance to make a craft. Also, pick up a Library Terms word search puzzle at the Circulation Desk while supplies last. · Fri., April 15 is Shades Day. A 1 p.m. film features Noah Wyle as a librarian-adventurer on the search for a chalice possessing special powers. A library tour is offered at 2:30 p.m. Also, pick up a Book Titles word search puzzle at the Circulation Desk while supplies last. · On Sat., April 16, staff show their team allegiance at Sports Day. A Popular Author crossword puzzle is available at the Circulation Desk while supplies last. Information is with the Hammond Public Library, (219) 931-5100. Young Musicians’ Competition

South Suburban College will be hosting their 1st Young Musicians’ Competition this April in Room 1137 of South Suburban College’s Department of Music. AUDITION DATES April 22, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 23, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. AUDITION PLACE South Suburban College Department of Music, Room 1137 (Rehearsal Room), 15800 S. State Street, South Holland, IL 60473 JUNIOR ARTIST DIVISION - Ages 8 – 13 SENIOR ARTIST DIVISION - Ages 14 – 18 GUIDELINES Play any musical instrument or sing (solo, duets, trios or quartets). Memorize the piece (3 minute maximum). Reside in Cook or Will Counties in Illinois, Lake or Porter Counties in Indiana, OR study with teachers in the above counties. Must provide accompanist for auditions. Pay $10 for the audition fee via cash or check to South Suburban College on the audition date. AWARDS Winners will be invited to perform their pieces as guest soloists with the SSC music ensembles during the 2016-2017 season.
