Valbert’s Original Designer Creations is a small, one woman operation. I make every piece myself, trying to keep my creations unique, beautiful, and most of them are one of a kind. My customers enjoy the fact that they won’t see the same piece on 5 different people in the same day! I also do custom orders. If you need a piece to match an outfit I can make you something that will enhance your look. If you have your own idea and want it made for you, I will work with you to find the perfect beads & findings to make your vision a reality. I also do repairs on most beaded or link style jewelry. I started making jewelry in the late 70’s, I was self-taught but read everything I could get my hands on that relating to the type of jewelry I wanted to make. Starting out I made a lot of “Indian style” seed beaded earrings, you know the kind, intricate designs & tons of itty bitty beads! I did that for awhile and finally realized it was too labor intensive/small reward for me, and went on to bigger things…and beads! and found out I loved it! When I felt secure that I was really good at this, I started doing local craft shows. I had success with them, but the set up & take down was getting to be too hard for me (I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003) and my best friend always had to help me. She is the woman who put the “BEST” in best friend, most of the time she did it with no compensation what-so-ever, I always had a dream of starting my own little shop, but didn’t think it was possible due to my limitations. Then something happened, a co-worker of mine (once a week I teach kids jewelry making at Restoration Ministries in Harvey) was starting up his own, unique resale store and was renting out space for buyers to sell their items. I went to take a look. Well, much to my surprise he also had 2 small rooms available that he wasn’t sure what he was going to do with. I asked if he would consider renting the larger of the two to me and he agreed. Now I have my own little shop that is in another business. I like to think of it as a hidden “Treasure” because it is inside of “Tom’s Treasure Chest” at 1421 Carroll St. (same as Michigan St.), East Chicago, IN. I am really excited and hope all of my past and future customers can find the time to come and join me in making my opening really GRAND!
