Post-Traumatic Stress Discussion
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 802, located at 5820 Hohman Ave is hosting their monthly meeting on Thursday April 7, 2016, with a special guest speaker Jim Chancellor. Chancellor was recent ly at t he Veterans Resource Fair that was hosted by Indiana University Northwest on February 18,2016, he spoke about PTSD and educating students on the severity of war. Chancellor will participate in the group discussions on Post-Traumatic Stress. The meeting will start 7 p.m., Chancellor said, “he learns something new at every meeting he attends.” He wants veterans to come and listen to other soldier’s stories and encourages them to share their own experiences. The meetings have members from all types of other affiliates that can help the veterans with issues and any other questions they have, like medical and compensation applications and how to get started with the process. If they can`t address their concerns they will point you in the right direction. Chancellor says, “the meetings are not just for veterans but the family members and the surrounding communities.” So come in and support the troops.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and Hammond Parks & Recreation invite Hammond residents to bring children ages 12 and under to the Annual Easter Egg Hunts on Saturday, March 19th. There is no charge to attend. · 10am will be at Dowling Park (behind the Jean Shepherd Community Center, off of J.F. Mahoney Drive, turn down 175th Street to the parking area) · Noon will be at Pulaski Park (137th Street & Sheffield Avenue) Please bring your own Easter basket. Humane Society Calumet Area Offers Photos with Easter Bunny, Bake Sale The Easter Bunny hops into Humane Society Calumet Area’s Paws Resale Shoppe to sit for photos with children and pets March 25 through 26. The annual holiday event also features a bake sale and takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 25 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26 at Paws Resale Shoppe, 8149 Kennedy Ave., Highland, Ind. Photos with the Easter Bunny are $6 for each four-by-six-inch print. The bake sale will feature a variety of treats for people and pets. Bake sale donations are appreciated and will be accepted beginning March 24 at the resale shop. Proceeds benefit the animals of HSCA.
