Jazz Festival Concert South Suburban College will be hosting their Jazz Festival Concert on Saturday, February 13. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Kindig Performing Arts Center. Admission to the event is free of charge. T h i s y e a r ’s Ja z z Fe s t i v a l C onc er t w i l l fe at u r e performances by the SSC Jazz Ensemble, SSC Jazz Orchestra and SSC Jazz Combo; guest artists and festival clinicians Dr. Mark O’Connor and Marlene Rosenberg; as well as select jazz musicians from area high schools and middle schools. Book Donations Requested For Sale Humane Society Calumet Area (HSCA) is seeking book donations for its winter book sale fundraiser. Donations of gently used adult and youth books, CDs and DVDs are appreciated and can be delivered to Paws Resale Shoppe, 8149 Kennedy Ave., Highland, Ind. Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shop. The book sale will be held Jan. 20 through 23 at Paws Resale Shoppe, from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For a $5 donation, shoppers can attend the presale on Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon and a $5 bag sale is held on Saturday. Proceeds from the book sale benefit the animals of HSCA. Concussion Seminar Series The South Suburban College Department of Continuing Education is holding a seminar series on Concussions. This 2-day seminar is a must-attend event for coaches, parents, volunteers, trainers, student-athletes or others involved in sports. A concussion is not just a football related injury. It’s better to miss one game than miss a lifetime of fun. The seminars are led by Hall of Fame Football Player Michael Jennings and topics include: Concussion Facts Concussion Symptoms Don’t hide it, Don’t ignore it, Report it! Take Care Of Your Brain! Class times are from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and run during February and March. The cost is $69.
