Driving at The Beach
Accessibility is one of the key factors in many groups choosing the Myrtle Beach area.
Motorcoach charters and individuals can travel using both U.S. routes 17 and 501, as well as S.C. 9 that provide direct access to the Myrtle Beach area from Interstates 95 and 20.
The 28-mile-long Veterans Highway (S.C. 22) offers an additional route from U.S. 501 to S.C. 17. Carolina Bays Parkway, also known as S.C. 31, is popular with locals and extends from S.C. 9 to U.S. 501 and S.C. 707. There are future plans to extend Carolina Bays Parkway even further south.
Public Transportation
The Coast RTA public transportation service provides public, reliable and affordable bus transportation along major routes throughout the Myrtle Beach area.
Coast RTA operates a FREE Entertainment Shuttle each summer through Labor Day. The Shuttle runs every 30-35 minutes from 11 AM until 11 PM daily.
Points of interests along the Entertainment Shuttle include Broadway at the Beach, Broadway Grand Prix, Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Helicopter Adventures, Hollywood Wax Museum, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Myrtle Waves, Ripken Experience and SkyWheel Myrtle Beach, as well as select dining, shopping and hotels.

The Myrtle Beach area has an efficient and impressive taxi system. The numerous taxi companies each have their own phone number, but nearly all respond to a common dispatcher. This ensures visitors get where they need to go, when they need to.
Train Service
Amtrak train service is available through an in-land station in nearby Florence, SC. Passengers arriving by train may then either rent a car or board a bus to complete the remaining 60-mile trip to the Myrtle Beach area.
TESTIMONIALS
“As the Most Worthy Grand Matron, the leader of an organization of over 300,000 members, I appreciate the expertise and dedication of the Myrtle Beach CVB team. I have worked with many people but the professionalism that has been amazing in outlining the 51st Triennial Assembly Meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I have notified the leaders following me to request your help for future meetings.
The plans for the 51st Triennial Assembly in October 2024 are going smoothly because of your dedication to making Myrtle Beach a great place to meet with “Great People Giving Wonderful Service to Others.”
Glenda Winchester, Most Worthy Grand Matron General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star
“As a tour operator specializing in student group tours, I find that Myrtle Beach is one of the best destinations available for students. A trip to Myrtle Beach is not the typical trip. Most students have described it as ‘laid back’ or ‘relaxing.’ While on other trips to major amusement parks or a major city, the students, while enjoying the experience, are always exhausted at the trip’s end. If you take the time to do your homework, you will find Myrtle Beach is well worth the effort.”
H.L. “Butch” Smith, Action Tours USA, Inc.
“We believe Myrtle Beach is the best beach and vacation destination in the world for our military retirees’ annual golf tournament and they agree as evidenced by their willingness to travel from all across the country (and a few from outside our country) to join their fellow patriots for 42 years running. We plan to continue for many more years right here in Myrtle Beach, thanks to the amazing support we get from Myrtle Beach and its patriotic residents!”
Major General Abe Turner
USA Retired and the entire National Retired Military Golf Classic Committee
“Our Triple Crown staff gets fired up every year for the East Coast Summer Nationals in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. We’ve been lucky for 25 years to get our customers on the best complexes and fields along the East Coast. Families also get to spend time on those beautiful beaches and dive into the fun diversions of the area. The team at Visit Myrtle Beach are engaged and valued partners, always going out of their way to provide the knowledge and support that creates good business and great competition.”

Incorporated in 1964, Surfside Beach has long been known throughout the Grand Strand as a “family beach.” Surfside’s pristine beaches are cleaned daily and supervised by lifeguards and police, giving families peace of mind while their children play on the beach. There are several beach access points that offer showers, restrooms and accessible ramps for persons with disabilities. In 2016, the Surfside Beach town council signed a proclamation to make Surfside Beach the first autism-friendly travel destination, further establishing their reputation as a beach for all families.

SOCASTEE
Socastee is located just west of the Myrtle Beach International Airport, between Route 17 and the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge. Historic Socastee is home to one of 10 swing bridges in the state. Those interested in art and history will be thrilled to discover Brookgreen Gardens, a national historic landmark showcasing the world’s largest collection of outdoor American sculpture.
LOCAL’S TIP

Across the road from Brookgreen is Huntington Beach State Park where you can discover birds, alligators and other wildlife. You can also take a hike, go on a Segway tour, enjoy the beach or explore Atalaya Castle, a Moorish-inspired summer home of the Huntington family in the early 20th century.

So, enjoy a walk on Pawleys’ delightful stretch of white beach, play a round of golf on a designer course or shop and dine at The Hammock Shops Village.
LITCHFIELD BEACH
Established in 1978, Litchfield Beach continues to be popular with residents and visitors alike because of its quiet, natural beauty. Litchfield Beach was originally named “Retreat Beach,” and that name still rings true today! Here you’ll find world-class golf courses, fine dining, and a relaxed pace of life.
HIDDEN GEM
Pawleys Island Hammock Shops
The area is home to the original rope hammock, created to allow for breathability and comfort during hot summer days. They are still handcrafted by locals in a variety of colors for both indoor and outdoor spaces, and available for purchase at Pawleys Island hammock stores.
CONWAY
Founded in 1732, Conway is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina, with all the charm and grace of a historic southern community. The Conway Riverwalk, set along the beautiful Waccamaw River, offers visitors a picturesque tour of the river town. A visit to the recently renovated Horry County Museum, which includes a beautiful aquarium, is a perfect way to spend a day trip away from the beach. The charming downtown area is also steeped in historic architecture that has been carefully renovated to house unique shops and restaurants.
CAROLINA FOREST

The Beach BREWING AT
When it comes to brewing, The Beach is booming … and that’s a good thing for groups visiting our area.
The Grand Strand now offers many options to raise your spirits after your meeting, conference or sporting event. From downtown brew houses and laid-back brewpubs with lots of room for outdoor fun to craft distilleries and wineries dealing in sweet Muscadine vintages, we have a variety of ways to kick back and enjoy a few drinks with friends, family or colleagues.
Our beer scene is led by New South Brewing, which has been in operation since 1998, distributing drinks like it’s popular White Ale, Nut Brown and IPAs from its warehouse location just a few blocks from The Beach.
Joining this long-running establishment are a number of other craft breweries which have opened since 2020, including Tidal Creek Brewhouse at The Market Common, Crooked Hammock Brewery at Barefoot Landing, Black Drum Brewing at Kingston Resort, Grand Strand Brewing Company in downtown Myrtle Beach and Southern Hops Brewing Co. in Murrells Inlet.
Many of these, like Crooked Hammock Brewery, offer brewery tours and tastings for groups like yours.
If wines are more your style, your group may want to explore a tour of La Belle Amie Vineyards in Little River; the Grand Strand’s only operating vineyard and home to a variety of vintages, many made from sweet Muscadine grapes native to
ENJOY THE AREA’S BEST SPIRITS
the region. You can also sample a variety of North and South Carolina wines with a tour of Duplin Winery’s bottling and tasting facility at Barefoot Landing.
There’s also Twelve 33 Distillery in Little River, which is the area’s only craft distillery and also offers group tours. Here, you’ll find premium handcrafted spirits in small batches using fresh, local ingredients to create uniquely Southern takes on house-made gin, vodka, rum and whiskey.
In all, there’s plenty of ways to unwind here, and we haven’t even touched the surface of our lively scene full of great nightlife, live music, wine bars and restaurants where you can sample topnotch spirits to your heart’s delight.

A DESTINATION THAT WELCOMES EVERYONE
When you’re planning a conference, tournament, or family gathering, the details matter; especially when it comes to making every guest feel comfortable. Myrtle Beach is proud to be a sensory-friendly destination built for inclusivity and ease.
Thoughtful Planning Built In
Through partnerships with Champion Autism Network, several hotels, attractions, and restaurants across the Grand Strand have adopted sensory-friendly practices like controlling noise, minimizing harsh lighting, and offering staff trained to assist guests with sensitivity needs. For planners, that means fewer surprises and smoother, understanding experiences from arrival to departure.
Calm, Inclusive Experiences for Groups
From soft-sensory mornings at Ripley’s Aquarium to special quiet hours at theaters and attractions, your group can still enjoy “The Beach” with sensory ease. Throughout the year, the region hosts festivals and events aimed at inclusivity so your attendees have real, relaxed options to connect.
Host with Confidence
Many local hotels offer quiet zones, early check-ins, and previsit sensory guides to help guests prepare.
With on-the-ground partners who understand sensory needs and an airport already offering resources (like a quiet room and hidden disabilities program), Myrtle Beach gives you the tools to execute an event that’s welcoming and memorable. When you bring your group to Myrtle Beach, you’re choosing a destination that goes beyond beautiful beaches, it’s a place where kindness and inclusion are part of the culture.
OUR PLEDGE
Visit Myrtle Beach promotes sensory-friendly travel through education and awareness. Partnering with the Champion Autism Network (CAN), we support autism certifi cation for hotels, attractions, and restaurants, making travel easier for families. The Grand Strand proudly includes three autism-certifi ed cities: Surfside Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Myrtle Beach, ensuring an inclusive, accessible destination for all.

PAST AT
The Beach EXPLORE THE
The Lowcountry is a place rich in history, shaping the strong cultural landscape of the Myrtle Beach area.
From glass blowing in Conway and handmade hammocks on Pawleys Island, to the stately rice plantations and historic monuments littered throughout Horry and Georgetown counties — The Grand Strand is proud of its heritage and welcomes groups of visitors to partake in our local customs.
A quick look around and you’re sure to find many historical homes, museums and cultural landmarks that will help you learn more about our exciting past. Check out the unique and unforgettable historic attractions The Beach has to offer.
African American cultural sites
The Myrtle Beach area has been greatly influenced by its African American heritage and roots that date back to the 1700s. From what we eat to the way we speak, so much of who we are can be traced back to the African American history in the region.
Charlie’s Place
Learn about 19th-century life from the perspective of African American farmers at Freewoods Farm in Socastee. This is a 40acre, still evolving “living museum” and the only African American historical living farm museum in the United States.
In Myrtle Beach, Charlie’s Place is a historical site that honors the work of Charlie Fitzgerald and his wife, Sarah. The couple owned a hotel and nightclub where musicians such as Little Richard and Billie Holiday performed from the 1930s to 1960s. Fitzgerald’s home has been refurbished to an event and community center. Nearby, you can also visit the Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School Museum a newly-restored schoolhouse that tells the story of African American education in Myrtle Beach prior to desegregation.

Brookgreen Gardens
Brookgreen Gardens sits on 9,000 acres located on the site of four former rice plantations between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island.
In addition to the largest collection of fi gurative sculpture in the U.S., Brookgreen is also home to a Lowcountry History Center and Lowcountry Trail which tell the history of what life was like on a rice plantation.
The area offers group tours and several Gullah Geechee historical programs throughout the year.
Historic Downtown Conway
One of the oldest towns in South Carolina, Conway has all the charm and grace of a historic Southern community. Oak tree-lined streets run through the picturesque historic district, inviting visitors to stay and learn more.
Founded in 1732, many of the homes in downtown Conway are well over 100 years old. You’ll also find great historic attractions here like the 17-acre L.W. Paul Living History Farm, a tribute to
the area’s agricultural history and the Horry County Museum, filled with area historical artifacts and exhibits.
Also nearby, the Conway Riverwalk, set along the beautiful Waccamaw River, offers your group a tour of the downtown area that is beautiful in all four seasons and has plenty of nearby restaurants and shopping to explore.
Georgetown
South Carolina’s third oldest city, the historic port town of Georgetown offers visitors a glimpse into 300 years of Lowcountry history. With more than 60 structures on the National Register of Historic Places, Georgetown gracefully wears its colonial character along the live oak-lined streets, the historic homes and grand old churches.
In addition to fi ve museums, you’ll find a vibrant downtown area where your group can explore unique boutiques, waterfront dining or just stroll the Harborwalk and take in the scenery along the Winyah Bay.
Also in the Georgetown area, you’ll find Hopsewee Plantation, an historic rice plantation that offers tours and hands-on workshops to learn the art of sweetgrass basket weaving taught by a Gullah descendant, an eighth-generation weaver, named Vera Manigault.
Hobcaw Barony
Located between the Winyah Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, this 16,000-acre property is dedicated to research and education in history and ecology.
It includes buildings and sites that refl ect the lives of African Americans from the early 19th century through the first half of the 20th century.

ENJOY The Beach SAFELY
With tens of thousands of people swimming in the ocean and pool daily during the summertime, the Myrtle Beach area has an excellent safety record. But it’s important to take proper precautions when near water. Here are a few water safety tips to make sure your visit to our many beaches, pools, and waterparks is as fun and safe as possible.
Beach Safety Tips
• Look for and obey all beach safety flags. If you are unsure of the meanings of each flag, please reference the signs posted at the nearest beach access.
• Swim in areas with a lifeguard. Listen and follow the lifeguard’s directions and warnings.
• Swim with a buddy
• Swim sober
• Don’t fight the current (and signal for help!)
• Don’t float where you can’t swim
• Watch small children closely
• Don’t swim or surf within 75 yards of piers or where people are fishing
• Don’t dive into the surf (protect your neck!)
• Leash your boogie board or surfboard
• Ask a lifeguard about ocean water conditions
• People with open wounds or compromised immune systems should avoid public bodies of water
• Know the local rules and laws
Pool and Waterpark Safety Tips
• Watch Children - It is important to not drink alcohol, look at a phone, or nap while your children are swimming.
• Teach Kids to Swim - It is recommended that your child take swimming lessons prior to going on vacation where pools and the beach are the main attractions, even if they teach basic skills in the water.
• Use Life Jackets - Do not use air filled or foam toys, such as water wings, noodles, or inner tubes as they are not designed to keep children safe from drowning.
• Enter Water Feet First - Jumping or diving into too shallow water can cause injuries that are preventable by knowing the depth of the pool.
• Never Swim Alone - Even for confident swimmers, it is important to use a buddy system to prevent an emergency.
• Learn CPR - Everyone, regardless if you have children, should learn CPR for emergency situations.
