PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

The Player Development division is designed to focus on the holistic development of each player to assist them in becoming the best possible version of themselves, on and off the rugby field. Focus areas include intellectual, occupational, mental and emotional, and physical wellness.

THE KEY FOCUS OF THIS DIVISION: PLAYER CAREER DEVELOPMENT MyPlayers offers career guidance to all players interested in exploring possible career paths. Psychometric assessments are used to ascertain personality, motivational workplace factors and career interest fields. The results of these assessments are integrated into a report and recommendations are made to the players during one-on-one feedback sessions.

8

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT MANAGERS (PDM) PROGRAMME

NATIONAL PLAYER DEVELOPMENT (NPD) PROGRAMME

In 2019, six part-time Player Development Managers will be appointed at the Lions, Bulls, Sharks, Western Province, Cheetahs and EP Kings to manage the delivery of the MyPlayers Programme as determined by the National Player Development Manager.

The National Player Development Manager works together with managers from the six unions to develop and maintain a standard Player Development Framework and Curriculum. This ensures that all unions address player development in an unswerving and consistent manner to safeguard the players’ development outside of rugby, especially when they move from one union to another.

BURSARY & EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS

GENERAL ASSISTANCE

By providing a number of partial or full bursaries, MyPlayers offers the opportunity of aid to players who require financial assistance to further their formal education. Hands are also joined with a number of online institutions that offer the players discounts on various academic courses.

On a day-to-day basis, MyPlayers assists the players to ensure they are ‘workplace ready’ by helping them draft curricula vitae, sharing interview tips and offering them internship/job shadowing opportunities. Life skills sessions are facilitated to ensure players are comfortable, safe and equipped to address life outside of rugby. Lastly, MyPlayers looks after the mental health of the players through educational sessions and through the 24/7 Wellbeing hotline.
