What's in Bloom: Favorite Flowers & Fillers of the Season

With their dark centers, these blooms have so much personality and can easily dominate an arrangement or flower crown. If you are looking for an amazing statement flower in the late fall, this is it.

There is something so cheerful about a bright yellow daffodil in the midst of the late fall and winter temperatures. These are always an instant pick-me-up!

When peony season is over, the dahlia is a great go-to for fuller flower arrangements. Smaller dahlias also look amazing when used as statement flowers in a crown -- but they do tend to wilt easily, so handle with care.

There aren’t too many blue flowers out there, so delphiniums are great if you’re looking to incorporate blues and purples; they can range from light powdery blue to vibrant purple.

I love to use these vivid pink and purple pom pom flowers in my crowns and arrangements. They don’t wilt easily, so if you are looking to make a flower crown that lasts a few days, these are a great option.

This fall staple comes in so many pretty colors; I love to shop for the local mums at the New York flower market. Whole Foods also carries a great variety of mum plants for my terrace at home.

Think twice when you’re in the produce section! You might not think to add rosemary to your seasonal arrangements, but I challenge you to try. Rosemary smells incredible and I not only love cooking with it, but also enjoy weaving it into fall and holiday flower crowns. It dries out nicely so, you can even make crowns of Rosemary as decorative pieces for your kitchen by hanging them upside down during the holiday season.

This wildflower is a great alternative to baby’s breath and can serve as a great filler flower in a boho-esque flower crown or arrangement.

This may be my favorite greenery to use in general; I absolutely love how the pieces of seeded eucalyptus fall freely and look so whimsical.

Tulips come in so many beautiful colors and in late fall, it’s so exciting to see these blooms pop up in the New York flower market. With a bundle of tulips, you have an instant flower arrangement -- they look amazing simply placed in a vase alone.
