With Dr. Orlando Cedeño at Abacoa Podiatry By Gabby Gregory

The rst time Dr. Orlando Cedeño, DPM, FACFAS, saw a podiatrist was as an athlete in school. He didn’t realize it at the time, but he was getting a rst look into his future as a foot and ankle doctor and surgeon. It wasn’t until later on, when his mother was diagnosed with Diabetes, that Dr. Cedeño remembered podiatry. Diabetics have a “strong need” for diabetic limb salvage, a procedure often handled by podiatric surgeons. Suddenly, podiatry became personal.

So, with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a passion for people, Dr. Cedeño decided to earn his degree in Podiatry from Barry University. After graduating in 2006, he pursued his passion even further and completed a 3-year foot and ankle surgical residency followed by an international trauma fellowship in Switzerland. But he still wasn’t nished yet… next was Dr. Cedeño’s FACFAS certi cation.

The FACFAS title indicates that Dr. Cedeño is a fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The certi cation requires an extensive amount of work and testing, as well as re-certi cation every 10 years. Not every podiatrist is a FACFAS! There is no requirement for doctors to pursue the certi cation, but Dr. Cedeño did because he wants to provide the best, most comprehensive experience for his patients. He is also board certi ed by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Fast forward to today, and Dr. Cedeño is utilizing his expertise to help and heal people all over Palm Beach County (and beyond!) at his practice, Abacoa Podiatry. Dr. Cedeño has a Jamaican and Dominican background and his wife is Jewish, so he felt South Florida was the perfect place to experience the amalgamation of these cultures.

For Dr. Cedeño, it’s very important to understand and listen to patients. His goal is not only to nd a solution and relieve pain for patients, but also to make them feel comfortable and heard. He says, “Having that relationship with your doctor where you can express yourself, and where we can formulate what’s going on and what to expect… that’s something that patients really appreciate.”

Dr. Cedeño is also very focused on using the latest and greatest in technology at Abacoa Podiatry.
