20th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Walk planned

Dan Enea with Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, the Little Falls Youth and Family Center (YMCA), and M&T Bank are inviting all community members, first responders, and veterans to take part in the 20th Anniversary 9/11 Free Community Remembrance Walk at Rotary Park.

Enea said, “We do the picnic every year and I thought coming off of COVID we could do something a little more low-key, especially to commemorate the 20th anniversary. So, we came up with the walk, and hopefully, the community will take part in it.”

He said that people can gather at 1 pm in Rotary Park and the walk will begin at 1:30. They’ll proceed down the Erie Canalway Trail, loop around under the bridge, and then come back to the park.

“KO Grainer is going to play patriotic music and we’ll have random refreshments donated by local restaurants,” he stated.

The Little Falls Public Library is bringing a 9/11 exhibit and the New York State Trooper Wall will be on display, that celebrates the fallen troopers that have passed away on duty.

Samantha Heffernan worked out the under one-mile route for the walk. “It’s a laid-back event to honor the people who passed away,” said Enea. You can show up on the day of the event, but RSVPs will help with planning. You can message Daniel Enea on Facebook or call 315-867-7230 for more details.

She needs a minimum of twelve, but having some alternates would also help out. “It’s not required. However, election law does require inspectors to train annually. The paid training is held at our county office and lasts about an hour and a half. They each earn $25 for attending.”

On election day, the poll inspectors start working at 5 am and go until about 9:30 pm. “The pay for that day is $200,” she said. Tranter says that it’s a great group of people to work with. “Often, they all bring a dish and then they munch all day long.”

Requirements for the position are that you must be a registered voter, over the age of 18. Those that volunteer will need to attend training September 21-23, with various times available.
