WELCOME!

Thanks for discipling some of the youngest kids in your church!

This quarter kids will enjoy stories about three Old Testament leaders. Joseph’s Dreams Come True follows Joseph from the special gift he received all the way to when his family moved to Egypt. While his brothers intended to get rid of Joseph, God had bigger plans, including the dreams of his family bowing down to him coming true.

Many years pass and Moses in Charge explores God’s special plan for Moses. Like Joseph, Moses’s family loved him, but they needed to keep him safe. When Moses grew up, we find out that God’s plan was to send Moses to tell Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to let God’s people go. And Moses did what God told him to do.

Joshua & the Promised Land looks at the exciting things God did when it was finally time to go to the new home God planned. Parting the sea and giant walls crashing down showed everyone that God was in charge, and He can do anything.

We love getting feedback about the lessons, both what’s working great and what we can improve. So please scan the QR code or send in your survey. Thank you!

Blessings!

Sharing the Bible story each week is easy with the Bible Story Cards. (The Bible story is on the back of the cards too.) Two very important things follow: Talk About It and Response Time. Take time to talk and pray with your kids to connect the Bible to their lives.

Easy-to-lead activities reinforce the lesson focus. Every week, kids will have Student page activities and a Make & Learn Bible craft. Check out the Faith Verse action videos to help kids memorize Bible verses.

About PreK & K

You get to make a first impression on your students as they learn to love God and His word. No doubt they have LOTS of energy and may have a hard time sitting still. So have realistic expectations about that.

A good guide is 2 minutes + 1 minute for each year old they are.

So if you teach primarily 4-year-olds, that means the target length for their attention is 6 minutes. Move pretty quickly through activities. Mix in play time. Repeat the ones they love. Then trust the Holy Spirit to help things stick.

How your students learn best

• Love! Kids will love God, His word, and coming to church when you show them you’re glad they’re here.

• Move! Kids love to move around and go, go, go. That’s why we’ve got lots of games and activities in the lessons. Move during worship too.

• Watch! Show the Bible Story Cards with the story. Review them often. Encourage kids to imitate you as you pray.

• Talk & Listen! Talk to kids even if they aren’t yet able to respond. As they develop, they’ll talk more.

• Play! Play to learn, and take time to just play too.

• Pray! For them and with them!

PreK & K Series Overview

SEPTEMBER

In Joseph’s Dreams Come True, you’ll introduce kids to Joseph and how God used him to save the entire world. Joseph’s dad loved him very much, more than his other sons, and they were jealous of Joseph because of it. God used their jealousy to make sure Joseph was in the right place at the right time. We can learn from Joseph’s attitude and actions along the way.

OCTOBER

In Moses in Charge, you’ll introduce kids to Moses who led God’s people out of Egypt and to the promised land. As kids learn about Moses, they’ll also learn about God’s nature. God is our Protector. He can help us in many surprising ways. God is our Leader and Helper.

NOVEMBER

In Joshua & the Promised Land, we’ll follow the Israelites as they finally move into the land God had promised to them many years before. Like Moses, Joshua sent spies to check out the land. Then the people had to cross a river and encounter a city with tall walls. Then when Achan took what he shouldn’t, kids will discover that God knows when we disobey Him, too.

Lesson 1 Joseph & His Family

FOCUS

Kids will discover that God gives everyone a family.

BIBLE STORY

FAITH VERSE

FOR THE LEADER

In Joseph’s Dreams Come True, you’ll introduce kids to Joseph and how God used him to save the entire world. Joseph’s dad loved him very much, more than his other sons, and they were jealous of Joseph because of it. God used their jealousy to make sure Joseph was in the right place at the right time. We can learn from Joseph’s attitude and actions along the way.

In this lesson, kids will learn that God gives us families. No family is perfect, and brothers and sisters don’t always get along. Joseph’s dad loved Joseph so much, he gave Joseph a colorful coat. Then Joseph had two dreams. In these dreams, God told Joseph that his whole family would treat him like a king. Joseph would be served by his brothers! That made them mad at him!

Then you’ll give the shirt to the next person on your team. The first team to have everyone race wearing a shirt wins.

BIBLE TIME

Joseph & His Family • Genesis 37

JOSEPH GETS A SPECIAL COAT (Show

Bible Story Card A.)

Joseph’s dad had many sons, but he loved his son Joseph more than all his other kids. He wanted Joseph to know he was special, so he gave Joseph a very special gift. Do you think Joseph was excited to get a gift from his dad? Do you like to get gifts from your parents? Joseph’s dad gave him a beautiful coat. This coat had many colors. Joseph was so glad to get this coat! Joseph may have hugged his father. He may have said, “Thank you for the beautiful coat.” How do you show you’re thankful when you get a gift?

JOSEPH DREAMS ABOUT HIS BROTHERS (Show

Bible Story Card B.)

Do you have any brothers or sisters? How many do you have? Joseph had 10 older brothers! Joseph and his older brothers didn’t get along. The brothers didn’t like Joseph at all. Why? Because they thought their father loved Joseph more than he loved them. One night when Joseph was sleeping, he had a dream. He dreamed that he and his brothers were in the field tying up bundles of grain. Then Joseph’s bundle stood up tall, and his brothers’ bundles gathered around and bowed low. Let’s stretch our arms up high. How high can you stretch? Now let’s bend down low. Can you touch your toes? When Joseph told his brothers about the dream, they were mad. They asked, “Do you really think we’ll bow down to you?” They really didn’t like that Joseph said they would. Guess what? Joseph had another dream. In this dream, the sun, moon, and stars bowed down before him. This time Joseph said that even his dad and mom would bow down to him. Do you think his dad was surprised at this dream? He was very surprised. But Joseph’s brothers became even more jealous of him. They were really mad at him.

God gives us families. And that means we love them when times are good and when times are hard. This is not the end of Joseph’s story with his brothers. Even though Joseph’s brothers were not happy with him, Joseph’s story will have a happy ending.

RESOURCES Act It Out

(Resources Family Cards, scissors)

We don’t know what Joseph’s coat looked like exactly, but we know it was colorful. In Bible times, they couldn’t go to the store to buy a coat. They had to weave it. In your Bible craft today, you get to weave a colorful coat. Choose which designs you want to use.

Assist kids as needed.

FAITH VERSE REVIEW

Download and play the Faith Verse Video* to practice the verse.

Joseph’s dad showed his love by giving Joseph a beautiful coat with lots of colors. How do you feel when your family shows you love?

Let’s act out some of these ways that people show love to us.

Let kids choose a Family Card and act it out on their own or as a group.

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 29:11

FAITH VERSE FUN Joseph’s Coat
