RECREATE THIS AWESOME STAGE DESIGN FOR YOUR VBS!

In Your Element is inspired by sports science, so we dreamed up this fun sports lab—a place where athletes can measure their strengths and learn how to excel in their abilities.

Pegboard Wall At the heart of our stage design, we have our MEGA Sports Lab sign. The base is made out of pegboards painted white. We painted additional science elements onto the board. Use S hooks to hang sports equipment from the holes. Or, purchase the In Your Element backdrop (p. 14) to take the place of this sign in your set.

Cubbies Cube organizers highlight sports and science items which helps tie in the sports lab theme. Use sports equipment and learning tools from your closet to fill the cubbies. LED lights attached to the upper side of the cubbies showcase the items.

Pipes Pipes help bring the sports lab theme to life. We cut 3” PVC piping and assembled them so they connect.

Paint the pipes bright colors. For an inexpensive option, use pool noodles to create a similar effect.

MAKE SNACK TIME FUN! Create awesome snacks at your camp and have everyone smiling.

Test Tube Candy Purchase test tubes in bulk online or from a local store. You can fill the test tubes with candy like Skittles or M&Ms. These would be a fun gift to send home with kids after playing hard at camp.

Fruit Molecules Make fun fruit molecules using grapes, melon balls, and toothpicks. Use a melon baller to make sphere shapes. Or go savory with sausage and cheese.

Candy DNA We made DNA strands using licorice and gummies.

Toothpicks hold everything together. Another option is using twist cheese strings. They already resemble a double helix.

Graham Cracker Rulers To represent measuring, decorate graham crackers to look like rulers. Cut the graham cracker in half so they are long and narrow. Use icing for the measurement lines. Make into sandwiches using ready-made frosting.

Element Cookies We decorated this giant cookie with abbreviations of periodic table elements to show sports and science together.

ACTIVITY IDEAS Create a space for the kids to do some sports experiments after they check in every day. Some of the fun things you can measure are: » HEIGHT

SESSION 1: WARM-UP GAME Tails

Do not form teams. Give each kid a pinny and have him tuck it into the back of his shorts x to make x a “tail” that is long enough to swing back x and forth. Set boundaries with cones in xrelationship to the size of your group. Give

each kid a ball. Explain the game: 1. Each player dribbles and tries to protect his tail while trying to pull out the tails of other players.

2. A player may not hold his tail to protect it.

When a player pulls out a tail, he throws it to the ground. The player who has lost his tail must kneel where the tail landed until the game ends. He may steal tails from other players who come within reach of his kneeling spot. He may not leave his knees.

3. The last person with a tail wins.
