Our Mission Health Alliance for Austin Musicians provides access to affordable healthcare to Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians.
Our Service Providers: Seton Family of Hospitals provides primary medical care. St. David’s Community Health Foundation Leadership provides basic dental care. The SIMS Foundation provides mental health and addiction-recovery services.

Letter from the Chairman of the Board Dear Friends: Live music is not only an integral part of the Austin culture, but it is also vital to the economic wellbeing of our city, bringing in over $1 billion each year. Yet most musicians are self-employed and have no access to group health insurance. Three years ago, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) came together to support the health and well-being of this important resource. Since then HAAM has served 1,000 musicians, most of whom earn less than $15,000 a year. These musicians no longer have to rely on the emergency room, the most expensive place to receive treatment, and instead have access to regular medical, dental and mental health services. There are many people to thank for the successes of the last three years, especially: The HAAM Board, which has grown this organization into a mature, well-respected community asset The service providers from Seton Family of Hospitals, St. David’s Community Health Foundation Leadership, and The SIMS Foundation, who provide quality care day in and day out to HAAM member musicians HAAM member musicians, who give back to the organization in so many ways, including contributing their talent to HAAM Benefit Day The community, whose generosity and support for musicians’ health is tremendous Specifically, I thank the individuals who donated not only money but also volunteer time, the more than 175 businesses that embraced HAAM Benefit Day in 2007 and foundations that recognize that Austin’s musicians are key to what makes this city a unique and desirable place to live.

HAAM Benefit Day On Tuesday, October 2, more than 175 Austin-area businesses showed their support for the talented musicians who make the city and its culture so rich. These businesses’ participation in the second HAAM Benefit Day raised vital funds for current and future HAAM member musicians. The businesses, both large and small, gave 5% of the day’s proceeds or made a cash donation to HAAM. More than 80 musical acts, most with members who belong to HAAM, performed at businesses throughout the city and on stages set up on closed streets to increase sales and remind shoppers who was being helped through their purchases. Additionally, there was a 15-hour telethon on ME Television encouraging viewers to call with donations. Together with matching grants from Charity Partners of Austin, The Moody Foundation and Topfer Family Foundation, HAAM Benefit Day 2007 raised $180,000 for musicians’ health. Thank you, Austin!
