“Big Beautiful Bill” S lashes Tax Credits!
How much longer do you have to save?
President Donald Trump officially signed the “Big Beautiful Bill” into law on July 4th, 2025. This eliminates the current $2,000 tax credit for high efficiency heat pumps and $600 credit for 97% efficient furnaces. These credits were originally scheduled to remain in place through 2032, but will now expire on December 31st, 2025. That means, barring further legislation, that this year will be your last chance to take advantage of these incentives!
Will tariffs influence the cost of a new furnace and ac?
Many of the components used in heating and air conditioning systems are sourced from China, Mexico, and Canada. Even brands designed and manufactured in the USA, like Amana, will still be affected by the 25% steel and aluminum tariff. If your system is more than 15-20 years old, you should consider investing in a new energy-efficient system to beat looming price hikes.
What do new refrigerants mean for homeowners?
As R-410A is phased out due to its high Global Warming Potential (GWP), manufacturers are transitioning to environmentally friendly refrigerants. R-32 and R -454B are the replacements.
R-32 has a proven track record; it was first introduced in Japan in 2012 and is widely used in Asia and Europe. R-454B is new, but has a lower GWP. R-32 is a pure refrigerant, making it easier to reclaim, recycle, and reuse. R454B is a blend which can reduce efficiency if imbalanced. R-32 is readily available while R454B is dealing with massive shortages and costs twice as much!
Some companies may try to frame the refrigerant transition as an urgent reason to replace your system. But the refrigerant itself will be available for the foreseeable future, only the production of new equipment has been phased out. R-22 (phased out in 2013) is still available today in a recycled form and we expect the phase out of R-410A to be similar. A well-maintained R-410A system can still reach its expected 15-20 year lifespan.
