MAYOR’S MESSAGE We recently met with representatives from the Granite Education Foundation, a 501-C (3) non-profit organization supporting students in the Granite School District. They are embarking on the very worthy effort of ensuring every Granite student returns to school with the basic supplies they need to succeed in the classroom. The accompanying ad details the challenges many of our students face. As Holladay residents we want every child, regardless of socio-economic conditions to know they are supported. The Backpack and School Supply Drive provides an opportunity for our community to demonstrate, through our actions, that “Holladay Has Their Back! The Foundation set a lofty goal---15,000 backpacks! The Holladay community has committed to 500. Visit GraniteKids.org for a list of suggested school supplies for the various age groups. You can drop them off at City Hall through August 7th. We will have volunteers ready to collect backpacks at the free concert behind City Hall on Saturday, August 7th (last day of the community drive). The Foundation will gather what we have collected and distribute to students in need prior to the first day of school. You can also make a monetary donation direct to The Foundation. Indicate you are a Holladay resident so they can track our community donations toward our goal of 500. A $10 gift can supply a child with the basics they need to begin the school year. Whether it’s a family effort, your neighborhood, church, volunteer organization… what a wonderful way for all of us to welcome our students back to in-person learning. I’ll be reaching out to Granite District Mayors with a personal challenge from Holladay. Let’s spend part of our summer sharing some Holladay Love with Granite Kids!
