an. 10 was an exciting day for Herriman City and its Finance Department. During the city council meeting that evening, President-elect Nick Hales of the Utah Government Finance Officers Association presented Herriman’s finance department with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. Hales acted on behalf of the National Government Finance Officers Association. The award recognized the city’s superior Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. The GFOA, based in Chicago, stated, “The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’... The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.” Herriman completes the ACFR at the end of each fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. Hales noted that this is the eighth time that Herriman City has received this award, which represents an entire month of hard work on the part of the city’s financial officers, plus additional time spent by the city’s external auditors. “Preparing the ACFR is a high priority for the Finance Department and demonstrates to the mayor, city council and residents that high-quality financial reporting and transparenContinued page 15
