Ghost Army vets honored
By Becky Ginos becky.g@davisjournal.com BOUNTIFUL—Three elementary schools are battling for a good cause to see who can assemble the most pantry packs to donate to the Bountiful Community Food Pantry. The packs are filled with food items that will help feed children in need on the weekends. Valley View, Oak Hills and Muir elementary schools are participating in the competition and the winner will be announced by the superintendent on Feb. 17. “The other two schools have been talking smack so we're excited to win,” said Valley View Principal Neesha Killpack. “We’re excited to help other kids too. We’ve always done donations for the food pantry, but this is the first time we’ve done pantry packs.” Mike Page, the principal at Oak Hills had done this before, she said. “He thought it would be fun to have a competition.” Students at Valley View collected items for two and a half weeks, said Killpack. “Each grade was assigned an item.” Their goal was 750 packs but they had already surpassed that by Feb. 4, the last day of the competition. “Putting it together was fun too,” Killpack said. “It makes the kids feel good to help kids who need food on the weekends. It’s something they’ll always remember.”
