Located around 1,000 miles from the US-Mexico border at the southernmost tip of The Baja Peninsula are Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo (also known as Los Cabos or “The Capes”). This is home to the San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD) which welcomes most of the tourists into this beautiful Mexican destination.

There, you may find yourself at one of the most fabulous resorts found along the coast holding a delicious maragarita by the infinity pool surrounded by turquoise waters and golden sandy beaches.

Enjoying the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez (or Golfo de California), Los Cabos has become one of the most visited vacation spots in Mexico, reflecting an historic year in 2022 with a 25 % increase in visitors to a total of 3.5 million. 80% of them American Travelers, according to Los Cabos Tourism Board. With a unique and extraordinary beauty that includes 28 miles of Tourist Corridor, Los Cabos offers a ride of breathtaking views that connects both towns.

What to CURRENCY

The local currency is the Mexican Peso although US dollars and major credit cards are accepted in most places. The exchange rate varies every day, we strongly recommend using the local ATMs so you will be able to withdraw money at the best exchange rate possible with minimum fees.

Some ATMs will give you the option of the desired currency you want to exchange for whether it be Mexican Pesos or US dollars.

CREDIT CARDS OR CASH? We strongly recommend trying to use your credit cards where accepted because many of them do not charge fees for using an alternate currency.

But, it is always recommended that you carry some cash. This is because there are many places that only accept cash such as; street shacks, flea markets, or beach souvenir vendors. It is handy however that most of these cash only locations will accept US dollars or Pesos. Keep in mind that paying in Pesos is better when it comes to the exchange rate to avoid a lower rate.

BANKS & ATMS The major local Banks are: BBVA, CITIBANAMEX, BANORTE, HSBC, SCOTIABANK and SANTANDER. Much like in the United States their regular working hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and some even operate until 2 pm on Saturdays. All of them have ATM machines inside their establishment available 24 hrs. We strongly recommend being cautious before, during, and after your transactions inside of the ATMs. It is always better to use the buddy system when extracting large sums of money.

STREETS WALKING If you are going for a walk in Mexico, please always watch for cars in any area, since drivers tend to not always follow driving rules. We recommend that you follow proper safety guidelines for crossing the street. Please find the proper crossing paths and be mindful of the cars around you. Los Cabos is ranked as one of the top safest tourist destinations in Mexico, but it is important that you try to stay within the tourist boundaries.

For nightlife outings, we strongly recommend using your hotel taxis or pre-arranged private transportation. The drivers are very friendly, knowledgeable, and bilingual. They will be happy to keep an eye on you while you have fun until you’re ready to go back to your hotel.

DRIVING If you are planning on renting a car for your trip, there are plenty of car rentals available to you. You can mainly find them within the premises of the airport but some companies even have branches in the main cities.

Driving in Mexico can be a little challenging at times due to some reckless drivers, but it mostly works the same way that you are familiar with. I recommend just following the proper driving rules and being mindful of the drivers around you. As long as you pay attention to your surroundings you will arrive at your destination safely.

GAS STATIONS Gas stations work a little differently in Mexico. The big difference is you never have to pump your own gas. There are gas station workers that will do that for you at no extra cost. You can pay for your gas with cash or with your credit/debit card. Most of the time the gas station worker will be happy to clean your front windshield, check your oil, or check your tire pressure if asked. Keep in mind that if you do ask for this, the gas station worker might expect a tip for their extra work. It will make them happy for them to receive a tip, it will be greatly appreciate it.

ere at El Medano Beach is is where you catch the well-known watertaxis to the famous rock formation landmark,The Arch. If you decide to go, do not forget to visit The Lovers Beach where you can be dropped off and picked up at a later hour.

n important mark to know about Lovers Beach, is that it is connected to the Pacific Ocean, please do not swim the Pacific side of it...it tends to be rough. Instead enjoy a safe swim on the bayside where you will find the colorful marine life along the rocks for a great snorkeling experience!

SANTA MARIA BEACH O

n Hwy 1 at km 13, you’ll find an exit towards Santa Maria Beach which leads to a pristine beach! It is a large attraction for sunbathers to enjoy the beautiful day. With colorful waters flanked by cliffs and golden sands, it is an irresistible hideaway spot.

Snorkeling is a fun activity available, especially for those who love the colorful marine life.

Make sure to bring snorkeling gear, water, snacks, and sunblock! Prior taking a dive, we recommend to first check the sea conditions to ensure a safe snorkeling experience.

All our main beaches count with a flag with a specific color posted in a visible area of the beach to show the safety levels of the water.

CHILENO BEACH T

he wonderful beach of El Chileno is the perfect spot for a day full of sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling! Right off Hwy km 14, you will find an enormous parking lot, which ends at the entrance where a wide wooden ramp connects you to this fabulous beach! Before going back to your car, you will be able to refresh in the newly made showers located at the entrance besides the ramp. Do not forget your water, shade, and gear.

o wonder why the beautiful Palmilla Beach, has become the favorite spot of many, and it is because this Beach has it all!

Starting with a swimmable beach with soft waves that makes it fun just to be in the water, a close by coral reef to snorkel and the traditional panga boats that park right on the beach after returning from catching the fish of the day! Let’s not to forget the shady free palapas available when you get there early.

PALMILLA BEACH

obbled streets, colonial architecture, and a sky filled with colorful Mexican garlands, all frame the picture that is San Jose del Cabo’s Downtown. Nowadays, this sector of the city is the very center of many trendy galleries, delightful restaurants, and curious shops surround the Mission San José de Anuiti, founded in 1730. This beautiful architecture towers over the historic centro at the front of the main square where many of the attractions occur.

“In 1996 the increasing popularity of Los Cabos and local artists rose, therefore, they felt the urge to share their talent and work with visitors and locals alike” In 2009 El Jardin del Arte (The Art Garden) was officially inaugurated by a group of local artists that started to bring their works to the Historic Plaza Mijares (San Jose del Cabo main square). La Casa de la Cultura (The House of Culture) opened its doors offering art workshops, theater plays, folklore dance, and many other cultural and artistic expositions, creating an art revolution. To this day, the movement has a powerful drive that doesn’t seem to stop.

The Galleries Walk-through became a must do activity in Los Cabos when…

12 International gallery owners had the idea to sponsor a Galleries Route to be walked- through, soon it became an event that takes place every week during the peak season for everyone to enjoy!

This event grew exponentially over the weeks. The local authorities eventually had to close the streets for visitors to walk peacefully while enjoying the art, music, food, or to gather for a glass of wine / beer among the artists and locals.

Baja’s SportFishing Is considered the pioneer of all activities in Los Cabos. It was back in 1945 after WW 2 when veterans discovered the over 200-pound Marlins and the many species that inhabit the waters of Cabo San Lucas in the Sea of Cortez. This activity became pivotal for the economic growth of this region and it has become known as “The World’s Capital of Marlin.” Nowadays it is called Land’s End which is where they host the biggest fishing tournaments for those who love Cabo’s Sport fishing.

They know they can count on a great catch at the end of the day in a true Fisherman’s Paradise.

A surfers paradise since the 1950’s, Los Cabo’s beaches was the location the first Northern Baja surfers decided to travel to in search of warmer waters. What did they find? Nothing less than stunning beaches, great point breaks to catch waves all year round, friendly villagers, fresh fish for delicious tacos, and of course, cold beer!

The best and least crowded months to catch great waves in Baja Sur are during March through May. The perfect conditions for surfing however remain through November. Although, it remains a comfortably warm beach all year round due to the Southern swells hitting the Mexican shores bringing in warm water. Winter offers great surfing conditions on the Pacific side, when the Sea of Cortez gets flatter and well suited for relaxation.

Whale Watching Cabo San Lucas is known as one of the best places in the world to see Grey and Humpback whales. They begin to leave their Arctic feeding grounds in Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington State, during September and October, migrating south along the coastline to breed and calve in Baja California, Mexico.

Every winter, during the months of December through April, thousands of whales arrive to the warmer waters of Cabo San Lucas. Humpbacks are seen putting on incredible acrobatic displays, both from the shore and on a boat trip, sometimes at a stone throw distance.

What to Do BUCKET LIST 1.- A Day at the Beach!

Indeed, Los Cabos has plenty of activities to do, but a sun filled day at the beach should be #1 on your bucket list. Along the coast of the Sea of Cortez, between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, you’ll have a view of beaches off of Hwy 1 that makes it feel like paradise.

The combination of the natural surrounding elements like the golden sands, the stunning rock formations, emerging cacti, and the refreshing turquoise water is truly irresistible. You’ll definitely want to make a splash by going snorkeling to see the c olorful marine life.

2.- Take a Snorkeling tour!

You can’t go wrong with learning to enjoy life from the sea perspective!

Being safely guided by experienced locals will allow you to see the hidden mysteries the ocean tends to keep locked away. All of the choices available offer great food, drinks, music, and of course snorkeling adventures. The Santa Maria bay and El Chileno reefs are the best spots for a great snorkeling experience! The Cabo San Lucas main dock will be your departing spot to a 5-hour sea adventure!

3.- Enjoy a day full of adrenaline activities!

Zip Lines, bungy jump, ATV’S, UTV’S, Hanging Bridge Crossings, Horseback riding, going on a Camel Safari, and even taking a splash in the water parks for the little ones! There are many opportunities for adventures in Los Cabos, it will not be hard to find safe ways for you and your family to have a blast!

4.- A Day of Water Activities!

In the lively beach of El Medano located in downtown Cabo San Lucas, you will find lots of activities to do. These activities include things such as wave runners, jet skis, flyboarding, paddle boards, kayaks, banana boats, parasailing, and visiting “The Arch”. The Arch is a natural rock formation in the shape of an elegant dragon lowering its head to take a sip of water. Water taxis continuously leave from the beach in order to provide everyone with a chance to see the truly beautiful natural attraction. Other than the Arch, you will see many other peculiar rock formations, the native sea lion colony, and Lover’s Beach. Many water taxis also give you the option to ask the captain to drop you off and come back to pick you up at a later time so you can do some exploring at your own pace.

5.- Take a Sunset tour!

California is well known for its stunning sunsets. Like California, Baja’s sunsets have the same colorful and romantic aura. Make the most of these absolutely flawless sunsets by cruising the bay as the sun begins to set. Starting with a stop at the Arch to capture yourself and the formation in the most beautiful golden lighting, you just can’t miss the way the sun glistens off of the ocean, creating the perfect memory. To top it off you’ll continue through the coast of the bay to enjoy a delicious and authentic Mexican dinner with your favorite drink in hand as the sun finally rests. Some of these tours have shows on board and others have a perfect setting for a dance floor, both are worth the evening!

The Heart of Jazmin’s An exclusive interview with owner

Araceli Villafuerte Feliciano

W

e are very excited to chat with Araceli Villafuerte Feliciano, the owner of Jazmin’s Restaurant, located in the heart of San Jose del Cabo. She, along with her sales manager Javier Gomez, will depict this true Mexican venue and will share with us their secret recipe for a successful restaurant.

When and how was Jazmin’s Restaurant started?

“We opened 30 years ago. We started with a tiny little coffee shop across the street with capacity for twelve people.

The only things that we used to sell were hamburgers, deep fried tacos, desserts, coffee, and nothing else. Back then there were only 4 restaurants serving food in the Downtown area”.

“Our first opportunity for growth was when we received the offer to rent the

unoccupied business local next to ours. We hesitated at first, because we thought it was too big, but we took it. I had an engineer friend whom I shared my ideas with. When he saw the place, he encouraged me to take the whole space. The only remodeling needed was to restyle the bar”.

He indeed gave us the push we needed.

“We started with selling breakfast in the morning, and soon after we updated our menu and became a more formal restaurant”.

It has been a slow, but beautiful process with ups and downs, we have been persistent and focused. What was a coffee shop for twelve people, is now a restaurant with capacity for 190 people.

What kind of food do you serve in Jazmin’s Restaurant?

“We primarily serve Traditional Mexican but have extended our menu to contain a couple international food options. Our menu includes enchiladas, mole, taquitos, chiles rellenos, as well as a wide variety of dishes including seafood, since we are on the coast”.

What kind of events do you offer?

“We do different events, like weddings, birthday parties, christenings, and thematic events. We cater the atmosphere according to the theme of each event.

“A big hit is our Sunday Mexican Regional buffet from 8am – 1pm”

In the backside of the building, we reserved a special section that offers a nice cantina style atmosphere, decorated with great photo frames of the Mexican Revolutionaries, like Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa, Etc. This area is completely enclosed and equipped with A/C for those seeking a fresher experience. We have clients who frequent the restaurant more than once a week and love to sit in the different sections everytime”.

We’ve even had four simultaneous events in the past! The flexibility of the space gives us the chance to play with all the areas of the restaurant. For example, to plan creative theme events such as: “El Dia de Muertos” (The Day of the Dead) and Disco Night. Every event is a success and we love to please our clients using our creativity”.

“To make the buffet even better we have exceptionally good chefs designated for seasoning who are from different states of our country”.

Tell us about the different areas your restaurant has and what inspired you to decorate them.

“We have 4 different sitting areas, each one offers a special atmosphere that the customers like. For example, the bar walls are full of color and a bit secluded from the rest of the place to give the room a private feeling”.
