PROJECT 04 La Maison Coloniale Group Case Study

La Maison Coloniale was a manifesto piece of the Architect Fonds Jacques Rousseau. As a Non-Conformal Architect, he questioned what are the minimum features necessary in a home to have it function. Interestingly, the building was designed with its support structure on its outside and its internal walls and floors are unfinished. Furthermore, there are no railings or internal doors for any of the rooms in the house, displaying a lack of internal privacy. These design choices play into Mr. Rousseau concepts of Non-Conformal Architecture and amongst other features, make the structure rather unique, compared to his contemporaries.

Jury Comments: Although it is a futuristic sort of drawing, it felt a bit nostalgic in the sense that it shows a future in the manner that used to be, the way we used to imagine the future in the past. Quite literally, the future in this drawing explodes and builds up upon the past. It’s also a sort of photorealism of the past. What’s quite interesting in terms of storytellingarethemulti-temporaldimensions.
