Welcome to the largest youth basketball tournament in the nation

ON MARCH 15-17 1991, THE FIRST MYAS GRADE STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS WERE HELD WITH 16 BOYS TEAMS AND 6 GIRLS TEAMS.

Welcome to the Largest Youth Basketball Tournament in the Nation!

On behalf of MYAS and the Minnesota Youth Basketball Alliance, welcome to an unprecedented celebration of school and association-based basketball.

Over the course of multiple championship weekends, more than 2,000 teams when including both Travel and Rec divisions will take the court in what has become the largest youth basketball tournament in the nation. Grade State isn’t just a tournament. It is a statewide showcase of community and school pride, commitment, and opportunity representing every corner of Minnesota.

This year’s event carries even greater meaning as we celebrate 35 years as an organization. For three and a half decades, MYAS, Inc., has stood for longevity, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protect and serve community-based youth sports. The scale of this tournament is not accidental it is the result of 35 years of trusted leadership, strong partnerships, and doing things the right way for the right reasons.

By the Numbers: 2,000+ teams participating across all divisions; 18,000+ youth athletes competing; Tens of thousands of parents and fans filling nearly 40 playing locations over four weekends, and 3,500+ games played across premier venues across the Twin Cities Metro Area.

From competitive travel divisions to recreational teams, this event embodies the true spirit of youth basketball access for all, development for every athlete, and an experience that creates moments that last a lifetime. For decades, this championship has inspired generations of players, coaches, and communities. It reflects the strength of Minnesota’s school and association-based basketball model, and the incredible work being done at the parent-volunteer level.

A heartfelt thank you to our MYBA leaders, volunteer coaches, tournament directors, host groups, game officials, assignors, officials' in charge, medical partners, and the entire MYAS staff. Executing an event of this scale requires extraordinary teamwork and dedication and your efforts ensure a safe, organized, and first-class championship experience.

Youth sports are about growth, teamwork, respect, resilience, community, and creating moments that last a lifetime — long after the final score is forgotten.

We encourage players to compete with passion, coaches to lead with integrity, and spectators to model sportsmanship. Our young athletes are watching and learning from us. Always remember your role during a youth sports event.

To every player stepping onto the floor: embrace the moment. Trust your preparation. Support your teammates. Represent your community with pride.

Thank you for being part of something historic a 35-year legacy built on integrity and sustained by community. Let the games begin.

Yours in Basketball,
